A short Bengali-language write-up of Jerome D'Costa on the Protestant ethic (or Protestant work ethic) of industriousness, savings, good management of worldly affairs and philanthropy in contrast to the Roman Catholic teaching of self-denial, sacrifice, humility, poverty and a loathing to worldliness. This writer shows that the Protestant ethic makes one active whereas the Catholic one makes one passive. That is why Protestant-dominated countries became economically stronger and Catholic-majority countries weaker. He suggests that the mixture of some of the elements from both the sides would bring a good balance in life.
