'Muktijuddha' (freedom fighter) Samar Louis D'Costa (1950-2017), from the village of Bhetur under Tumilia Catholic Church of Gazipur District, Bangladesh, was an operational commander of a group of freedom fighters entrusted with the responsibility of disrupting West Pakistani army communication system by mining electrical grids and railway bridges during the Bangladesh Liberation War of 1971.
Under his leadership, the group made a name in the war. On the day of his burial in May 2017, he was given an official guard of honour by local government officials, his co-freedom fighters, and freedom fighters from other groups.
