This Bengali-language article of Jerome D'Costa, published in the 'Pratibeshi' weekly of Dhaka on Sept. 27, 1987, speaks of Italian Xaverian missionary Father Marino Rigon's translations, since 1964, of dozens of books of Nobel Laureate poet Rabindranath Tagore, novelist Sarat Chandra Chatterjee, poet Jasimuddin, and 'baul' (folk) singer and poet Lalon Shah into Italian "to let the readers in Italy know of the rich culture and spirituality of the Bengalees."
Brother James Talarovic, C.S.C., an American Holy Cross missionary in Bangladesh, since 1981, has translated several poetry books of Rabindranath Tagore into English. He also translated Lalon Shah's songs. This Brother also spoke highly of the Bengali literary works.
