WHO’S MVP?
BALLIN’ FUTURE STARS
Must see television starts with KD and King James, better known as Kevin and Lebron. This argument has gone up and down press reports all season long. The numbers don’t lie and KD clearly has an edge statistically but Lebron has the rings. At NBA All Star weekend, these two will collide in an epic battle mono-e-mono for all the fans delight. With NBA Legends having seen these types of duals played out in the past, we were curious to see what they had to say if they were given one vote on this MVP race.
NBA Legends 2014 MVP Vote:
Lebron James is a freakish athlete who gives us flashes of Magic & Jordan in any given moment. He is now pursuing his third championship and if D-Wade can fire up the bionic knee in another game 7, they could scream dynasty in Miami. 12
Kevin Durant is a gifted scorer who commands double and triple teams who’s range begins in the parking lot. He has yet to lead his team to a championship ring but his teams nucleus is still improving.

Al Harrington plays for the NBA’s Washington Wizards. A 6’9” small forward/ Shooting guard who is also capable of playing power forward, Harrington was drafted out of St. Patricks High School in New Jersey in 1998. After his senior year at St. Pats, Harrington entered the NBA draft, where he was selected twenty fifth overall by the Indiana Pacers. In 2007, Mr. Harrington launched the Al Harrington Foundation to provide educational and life enriching opportunities for youth affected by poverty, illness, abuse or neglect in Al’s native New Jersey.
the rides in his garage come with a unique flare and attitude. His 2011 Matte Black Porsche Pantera is no different. From first glance you are in double take mode as your eyes are drawn by the dulled out pearl paint matching rims that set the vehicle something straight out of “Return of the Dark Knight”. One can only admire Al’s leap of faith with this design and shows just like he is not afraid to pull the three in game, He is willing to go gangsta in the car customizing world. This Ride earns 4.5 Stars
When Al is not helping in the community, he is an avid car buff. All

Wendy’s Co. has sold 30 of its restaurants to BB St. Louis LLC, a partnership between National Basketball Association player Chauncey “Mr. Big Shot” Billups and former NBA player Junior Bridgeman. The deal, disclosed Tuesday, is part of the Dublin-based burger chain’s announced intention to sell 425 restaurants it owns and operates to franchisees by second quarter 2014. The eateries put up for sale include Wendy’s holdings west of the Mississippi River except for those in metropolitan Denver. Terms of the deal with BB St. Louis weren’t disclosed, but industry sources have estimated Wendy’s could attract $150 million for the all of the restaurants

on the selling block – about $350,000 apiece. This is Billups’ first investment in the restaurant trade, Wendy’s said, but Bridgeman is well familiar with the chain. He is its second-largest franchisee with full or partial ownership in 196 Wendy’s. Billups, who this summer returned to the Detroit Pistons with whom he was the 2004 NBA Finals MVP, is entering his 17th season in the NBA. Bridgeman played 12 years in the NBA, mostly with the Milwaukee Bucks. Our Legends enhance communities and promote the sport through free youth clinics, charitable outreach and other grassroots events in the United States and abroad. NBRPA Members have recently led international service tours in Haiti and the Middle East, as well as in American communities such as Sandy Hook, Conn., Moore, Okla. and the Lower Ninth Ward here in New Orleans. We are excited to have you us this weekend for a full schedule of philanthropy, with a healthy mix of fraternization and fun. With your support we can continue to grow the NBRPA and reach new levels of success – in community service, for our members and beyond. Yours in Basketball, Arnie D. Jerome “Junk Yard Dog” Williams retired from the NBA in 2005. This year he became the head coach of perennial High School power house Findlay Prep Pilots. Since leaving the game this NBA Legend has worked for the NBA, New York Knicks, Toronto Raptors, NBATV, MSG, Automotive Street Style and founded a non-profit called the JYD Project, Inc. No stranger to hard work, Williams always brought his lunch pale to work as he stayed a top ten rebounder per min. the majority of his career while doubling as a fan favorite.
24
Old schoolers always admired his gritty throwback style with his long socks & headband. The Junk Yard Dog has always had a love for cars. His 1962 Lincoln Continental convertible can give granny’s to toddlers whip lash. Sporting Custom midnight blue paint, 383 Ford Motor, 22” Forgiato wheels on Pirelli Zero tires, Alpine stereo/ navigation and two 10” Subs. We can see why he is still NBA ballers go to customizer for everything car.

COACHES CORNER
The Popovich coaching tree has extended in recent years to include such as Jacque Vaughn, Doc Rivers, Mike Brown, Vinny Del Negro, Avery Johnson, Monty Williams and now Mike Budenholzer, recently hired in Atlanta. That’s not counting general managers Kevin Pritchard (Indiana) and Sam Presti (Oklahoma City). Udoka would love to be another arm of the tree. He would prefer
staying in the pros than moving to the college level, too. “Coaching is the only thing I’ve ever wanted to do other than playing,” he says. “I want to pursue a career coaching in the NBA, because it’s all about basketball there. I’ve enjoyed working with college kids and the AAU stuff I did in Portland, but there are so many extra things to worry about -- study hall, getting kids to class, recruiting, all that stuff. I want to keep it
kerryeggers@portlandtribune.com
just to basketball.” Does Popovich see in Udoka the potential to be an NBA head coach some day? “Absolutely,” Coach Pop says. “Ime has the toughness and the mind to where he understands how to maintain discipline. A lot of coaches will give in and do what’s easy. He knows how to handle players. He has been able to stroke them and stay on them at the same time. That’s a really good quality.
“The players know he cares about them, but he can make demands and they respond to him. That’s important for a head coach. Players have great ‘BS antennae.’ If they think you don’t know what you’re doing, they’re going to call you out immediately.” There’s absolutely no BS about Gregg Popovich, of course. Ime Udoka? It’s safe to say that he doesn’t suck, either.

Turn Your Frown Upside Down. I am sure that we have all had that bad day that started off with us running late, a car accident, getting a ticket, business deal gone bad and many other scenarios, but they all have one thing in common….. they usually place us in a bad mood and/or cause us to worry! The greatest book ever written, The Bible, says we do not have to worry about these situations that occur in life because “All things work together for the good of those that love the Lord and are called according to his purpose.” (Romans 8:28) A great example of this law at work is the story of Joseph. The Book of Genesis tells how Joseph was the 11th of Jacob’s 12 sons and Rachel’s firstborn. Joseph was sold into slavery by his jealous brothers, then thrown in prison, yet rose to become the most powerful man in Egypt next to Pharaoh. When famine struck the land, his brothers journey to see the Pharoah for help and to their dismay they saw their little brother as a very powerful individual. When Joseph noticed his brothers he at first was full of anger and had them thrown in prison. 34
Then he realized he was being emotional and had them send for his younger brother and upon their return Joseph made sure they had more than enough to eat and doubled their money! There are many lessons that can be obtained from the story of Jacob, but the ones to focus on is that even though a situation started off uncomfortable, the outcome will be good if one is patient and allows the greatness to manifest. Secondly, we cannot become emotional and focus on the bad situation. We have to know and believe that the current situation is necessary to obtain our goal in life. Lastly, we have to forgive those that bring pain to us, because the experiences that we go through is necessary to receive our blessing. So be encouraged next time a situation is not your liking because God says, “All things work together for the good…”
Improve the quality of your life as well as the lives of those around you by following these “Words of Wisdom”.
