My name is Jeroni Mach and I am a Landscape Architecture student at UPC, born and raised in Barcelona. I have always been fascinated by design, filling my notebooks with drawings and taking photos since receiving my first camera when I was eight years old.

With some friends, I participated in artistic projects combining fashion and photography, such as ”Cliént Studios,” a brand promoting liberal art in everyday life. Sadly, we couldn’t progress due to lack of capital.

My love for photography led me to work as a photographer at nightclubs for Grup Sutton while I was still in high school, until the pandemic hit. After excelling in Technical Drawing and Design, I pursued Landscape Architecture to further develop my creativity.

A workshop with students from Tsinghua University on pandemic response planning for a Barcelona block helped me realize the competencies required for my future profession. I have self learned 3D modeling and rendering, starting a challenge to post a free render every four days on my Instagram (@jeronimach). In February 2023 I completed this challenge with ninety images after a year.

In a professional environment, I collaborated with MICHELE&MIQUEL for a competition to renovate the historic center of Pamiers, France, from November to December 2022. It was my first experience with the creative process behind competitons, and I contributed primarily with 3D sketches, plans, layouts, and perspectives, learning a lot in a month filled with emotions and nerves.

CAMINS + MURS + AIGUA RURAL RECOVERY

camins + murs + aigua (paths + walls + water), a project made with Albert Vich, wants to recover an old mobility within the urban centers of the Pla de Vila in Ibiza. It is clear that the project focuses on an itinerary that allows

connecting urban centers, so the existing path is promoted with new walks that will vary in materiality depending on their location. The project is divided into 4 phases: mouth, trench, path-torrent and renatured.

The mouth space has a channel that separates two different sites. In the east is the Sarana building, with a shopping center and luxury apartments. On the other side there is a wasteland. The project proposes the

construction of living quarters inspired by the eco-munities of Ibiza in the open space, with a pine forest area and a dirt road near the canal. There will be steps to get closer to the new sanitized canal water.

10

The project seeks to transform the trench phase into an attractive space with trees to provide shade, installing fabric canvases to create spaces for restaurants on the first floor, and lowering the height of the canal to provide a better feel

for the water. The sidewalks will leave empty spaces that will provide many possibilities for local businesses and create a meeting space for families and neighbors, improving the quality of life for the neighborhood residents.

10TH INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOP

In January 2021, I attended a joint workshop between UPC and Tsinghua University in Beijing. In this, we were asked to propose a city prepared for possible pandemics, and our area of action was a square block in the Eixample of Barcelona. My group consisted of: Chen Buke, Song Yang, Wang Zhengyan, Huang Jingya, Lin Songxu (master’s students) and myself.

We thought of a modular design that we called ”LEGO CITY” and that consisted of a structure of interchangeable cubes according to confinement or other measures. It was a very interesting experience because we were able to share different ways of working and thinking. The render was done by Huang Jingya.

QUATTRE CREATIVE PROJECT

In late 2021, I became interested in computer-based photography and began learning 3D modeling and rendering through online tutorials.

In February 2022, I decided to post a free render every four days on my Instagram account (@jeronimach). To accomplish this, I organized myself to make a new post every four days at 20:00. As an Instagram challenge, I created small groups of three

renderings with different styles and themes. This challenge concluded in February 2023, resulting in a total of ninety images available on the following page and my Instagram feed.

My next goal in this challenge is to create a metaverse pavilion where all my renders can be organized. The pavilion image on the right was created using Rhinoceros 3D and Grasshopper.

ESPAIS DE CAMINS

(+) espais de camins (path spaces) wants to bring nature closer to the elderly and children of the Montbau neighborhood. Because of the neighborhood’s steep slopes, residents have asked for measures to improve accessibility. Based on this request, a sequence of

viewpoints is created with treatment of use and gradual furniture. For children and young people, an extension of the urban garden is created by creating a telecommunications hall with attractive furniture for the age group.

GARRAF’S CLIMATE SHELTER

This project was carried out by Pol Caros, Albert Vich and me, and aims to restore an old quarry with topographical, ecological and social modifications. In order to restore it, we have zoned those areas favorable to planting, where the orientation and slope are

ideal. We have also defined an area of specific intervention (quarry) and one of general interest where we will look for different ecological and social interactions. Lastly, we identified the main stream and its watershed, which would be the backbone of our project.

TRIO TERRA ISEO’S WILDLIFE PAVILIONS

Trio Terra is a microarchitectural project made by Albert Vich and me that balances ecological dynamics and design while preserving Torbiere del Sebino’s natural reserve. Three pavilions offer unique perspectives of the terrain based on watercourse, species, and

wind direction. Each location achieves different ecological relationships. The design integrates into the landscape, serves as shelters for birds and insects, and emphasizes historic preservation.

Trio Terra demonstrates harmonious coexistence of architecture and nature.

There are three pavilions in total. The first pavilion is designed as a refuge for invertebrates and birds with two observation points and limited access on the second floor. The second pavilion offers a 360-degree view of the wetland and has a closed space for viewing

insects below the stairs. The third pavilion is a wood cube that has a green roof and is made of ecological wood, with an artificial island that will house fauna and flora. Fish nesting supports will be located at the edges of the cube.

MANUAL PHOTOGRAPHY

My photographic style has been strongly influenced by the iPhone era unfortunately: as you can see, most of my photos are taken vertically. That said, I try to take photography in a calmer way, that’s why I shoot in analogic. In these images, only photo 3 (corresponding to an artistic and fashion project with my friend Marwan Sarsri) is show in digital due to the clear advantages of current cameras. In the firts five images you can see the value I give to water, it’s one of the most interesting elements for me because of the textures that occur at the same time. The subject in photo 7 is Cecilio G, an artist from Barcelona who stands out for his cross tattoo on his front. Photo 8 is from the same project as photo 3, but this time for another collection, in which we combine the style of the 70s with the beachfront architecture of Castelldefels and a duck.

CG PHOTOGRAPHY

Whenever I went out to take pictures, I went with an idea in my head that was really almost impossible to achieve, until I discovered this whole trend of CG Art (Computer Generated Art). I could take unimaginable photos from home with my computer and it would also be useful for my university, professional and personal projects. So I proposed to upload a render on Instagram (@jeronimach) every four days, allowing me to receive feedback from my small community and improve both in creativity and speed to have a finished image. Learning this representation tool has been completely autonomous through tutorials. The tools I use are video game creation programs, as they allow me to have complete freedom when creating. Image 1 represents a building by Tadao Ando photographed by Kai W. Image 4 is inspired by the photos of the artist Riocam, who brings together the beauty of the naked body with cars. Image 7 refers to the photos taken by Martin Parr on the beach in Benidorm.
