BACKGROUND

Trash and litter in the ocean costs marine life in great danger. The easiest way to remove trash and litter in the ocean is to clean them while they are on the coast.


PROBLEMS & OPPORTUNITYS

ONE. Dustcart cannot drive into the shingle beach, so cleaners have to carry the trash by theirself. TWO. It is easier

to grab the trash buried under the rock by hands rather than using grabbers.

clable plastic bags is not environment friendly and they are easy to be torn.

many wood and what materials we would use for the showcase to how many

related products we had to make.

There are about 800 shipwrecks happen per year.

INTERNSHIP IN OKUMA individual internship

Okuma is a fishing gears incorporation in Taiwan. They are specialize in designing high quality of fishing reels. I am honoured to have the chance to learn about fishing and participate in designing the fishing reels projects.

Deep Sea Fishing

We drove to the northern Taiwan in the midnight and slept in the cars waiting for the morning to catch the boat. This was my first time to fishing on the ocean. The most difficult part is to tie hook while the boat was rolling heavily. After nine hours of fishing, I was exhausted. However, this experience makes me realize some key points to pay attention while designing the reel.

TRENDS OF NOWADAYS 1.The litter-lout problem of Taiwan’s coastline has become more and more serious. 2.Environmental Groups pay more attention at protecting marine environment. 3.The number of Coastal-Cleanup events are increased.

THE PROBLEMS WE FOUND WHILE CLEANING THE BEACH 1. The litter weighs heavier than it actually does because it brings a lot of sand with it, making more difficult to remove.

2.Eroded by the sunshine and seaw ater , litter becomes tiny and sharp pieces that are very difficult to collect and may cause injury.

3.Beach clean up requires several basic equipments. Carrying the equipments is difficult to be efficient during the cleaning process.
