ABOUT ME I am a twenty-two-year-old architecture student in my fourth year of school with Barrett, The Honors College at Arizona State University. I always loved to draw as a child, and I first became interested in architecture after a brief summer camp program at PHX Architecture back in 2015. My passion for art and my excellency in math and science topics in school fueled my early interest in architecture, as the profession is the perfect combination of both creativity and technicality. At the end of my internship with Kendle Design Collaborative in the summer of 2017, founding architect Brent Kendle spoke with me in his conference room, saying that my creation of the as-builts for his current home finally gave him something to start working on his ideas for an expansion and remodel of his home. His appreciation and gratitude resonated with me from that day forward, helping me realize this is why I do what I do. There’s nothing more satisfying than bringing a vision to life and the happiness that comes with it.

Rio Salado Housing Project

4th Year: ADE422- Architectural Studio III w/ John Douglas, Fall 2020 Drawings: Rhino 7, Adobe Illustrator, and Adobe Photoshop Massing and Rendering: Rhino 7, Twinmotion, and Adobe Photoshop On the North Path of Tempe Town Lake lies a project known as the Tree of Life by Marilyn Zwak, which designates an area on the lakeside undergoing tree reintroduction. This became both the inspiration for my design as well as the location. All of the common spaces sit on the east side of the site, while the units extend out towards the west side, similar to the branches of a tree extending from its trunk. The U-shaped configuration of these common spaces creates a large courtyard filled with amenities for the residents to enjoy. Moving from the shoreline towards the freeway, each subsequent branch of units doubles in height to provide as many units as possible with the best views of Tempe Town Lake and its surroundings. The first branch contains only studio units while the second and third branches contain an alternating configuration of studios and two bedroom units.

The Swirling Stone Library

3rd Year: ADE322- Architectural Studio II w/ Joe Pritchard, Spring 2020 Drawings: Rhino 6 and Adobe Illustrator Massing and Rendering: Rhino 6, Twinmotion, and Adobe Photoshop A library has always been--and always will be--a place for people to learn new things. Libraries can also be a great way to bring the community together. Unfortunately, separating the programs of a library into the three given categories of public use, collection, and staff support spaces only works in theory. In practice, there is much overlap between programs as they are put into use. Instead, the separation of programs comes from the recategorization of programs into public community learning spaces and private staff and business spaces. While the public and private spaces are programmatically separated, they are not physically separated by any barrier to offer easy worker-patron interaction. The building surrounds a circular atrium which illuminates the building with natural sunlight and brings life into the space as it connects the building and its patrons to the nature of the park in which it resides. Located in Evelyn Hallman Park in Tempe, this is the Swirling Stone Library.

The Collective Dwelling Project

3rd Year: ADE321- Architectural Studio I w/ John Lee, Fall 2019 Drawings: Rhino 6 and Adobe Illustrator Massing and Rendering: Rhino 6, Twinmotion, and Adobe Photoshop Based on my site and housing research in downtown Phoenix, I believe there is a need for urban housing which supports alternative modes of professional life, particularly professionals who primarily work from home, regardless of age. Despite working from home, these individuals will still need access to facilities in the nearby downtown Phoenix area, including light rail access to the airport, for example. Additionally, it is important for these individuals to surround themselves with like-minded individuals and also break out of their units into community spaces when they are home. I am proposing a mix of unit types ranging from compact studio apartments up to two-bedroom apartments, 34 in total. In addition, I am proposing various common area spaces which can be beneficial to the stay-at-home professional, such as flexible meeting spaces and a public coffee shop to work outside the unit, while also promoting social activity with active communal spaces, such as a pool and lounges. My proposal offers close proximity and easy access to public transportation whenever necessary while also providing remote working professionals with the accommodations and comfort they need to successfully work from home while simultaneously supporting social interaction within the living environment.

3rd Year: ADE321- Architectural Studio I w/ John Lee, Fall 2020 Rhino 6 and Adobe Illustrator Students were given six different orientations of party walls and were tasked with making floors plans (minimum two bathrooms, maximum three bedrooms). Two of these six plans were meant to be two-story, and one of these six plans was meant to be three-stories. Students could push/pull pieces of the given rectangle as much as they wished so long as they maintained the original square footage of the given rectangle. Shown are plans, sections, and axonometric views for my personal favorite schemes.

The Light Pavilion

2nd Year: ALA235- Intro to Computer Modeling w/ Scott Murff, Fall 2018 AutoCAD and Adobe Photoshop The buildings and walls were arranged around this area of Tempe Town Lake to explore how light interacts with the space. Pieces of each building were then cut out to explore the interactions of light with those cutouts and with the space inside the buildings.
