Raquel LaCour The Beauty Industry Expected to grow by 2024 THE BEAUTY INDUSTRY CONTINUES TO RISE The Beauty Industry is already a $445 billion dollar industy. It continues to grow to reach the demands of the consumer. The beauty industry is comprised of make up, skin care, facial/ body treatments, nail care, hair grooming, tanning, massages to perfume/colognes. The beauty industry is anything to enhance how you look to how you smell. There are many employment opportunities within the beauty industry, that include: Dermatologist, Plastic Surgeons, Estheticians, Cosmetologist, Make Up Artist, Nail Technicians, and Massage Therapist. There is a wide range of opportunities that will continue to grow, as new technology continues to be developed. More people are looking for the fountain of youth, and find themselves depending on products to do the trick. Unless you can afford a plastic surgeon for a face lift, a tuck here or there, and botox to correct wrinkles, then the average consumer is looking for the best products on the market to enhance or fix their concerning issue. Every year new products are on the market, and the beauty industry adjusts to the demands, while creating more of a demand. Over the years, we have seen many beauty indsutry rise. Many people turn to social media, magazines and attend expos to stay in the "know" of what is trendy. The Expos/ Beauty Shows have expanded throughout the world. The purpose is to bring awareness of both cosmetic and skin care brands. These expos/tradeshows can be found by going to the following link http://10times.com/top100cosmetics. This year, I was able to attend the Americas Beauty Show in Chicago, Illinois. From new make up brushes to wrinkle erasers, the beauty show was packed with classes of information and products. As a board licensed Esthetician, I decided to make available the most competitive products and services, while providing tutorials of brand awareness, from the products that work. One can find these by going to my link: fromraquellacour.com. The Bureau of Labor Statistics states that skin care will rise 12 percent by 2024, which means that the beauty industry will continue to rise.

REAL MEN COOK TO CELEBRATE GENEROSITY OF MEN WHO SERVE AT 30-YEAR FATHER’S DAY MILESTONE Anniversary will highlight successes and impact of Annual Father’s Day Event
Real Men Cook -- Chicago’s premiere urban Father’s Day charity event -- marks its 30-year milestone this year. The food-tasting event’s purpose is to uplift families, promote wellness and highlight positive black male engagement. This year’s celebration is being held on Father’s Day, Sunday, June 16 from 3PM to 6PM at Hales Franciscan, an all-male high school located at 4930 S. Cottage Grove, in Chicago’s Bronzeville community.
Real Men Cook is the largest, longest-running and most-anticipated Father’s Day celebration of its kind. It provides a platform where “real men” from all walks of life give up Father’s Day pampering to work and be celebrated for demonstrating extraordinary commitment to their families and to their communities.
In making the announcement, Ayinde Cartman, executive director of Real Men Charities -- the presenting nonprofit -- stated that the longevity of Real Men Cook is testimony to its endurance as a must-attend family celebration and to the community’s embrace of its mission. He added that this year’s event will feature the standard fare of celebration, food, family and fun but will include reflections on its history with tributes to the founders, cooks, volunteers -- the heroes and heroines behind the event’s success.
He added that this year’s gala will be driven by the hashtag #RealMen30, which will be a landing spot where well wishes will be placed.
“We are excited to reach this 30-year journey,“ Rael Jackson, long-time Real Men Cook director, declared. “I have grown up with Real Men Cook. Seeing how far we’ve come and understanding the commitment by participants is amazing. It is also fantastic to see these men bring their culinary artistry and their families each year in a spirit of love.
Explained Cartman, “All my life these men of Real Men Cook have devoted countless volunteer hours and resources to cook their favorite dishes and serve. It is inspiring because the overarching goal is to influence young men to serve and grow their families and communities throughout the year.”

PUBLISHER’S OPINION Publisher’s Opinion: Thank you, Elected Officials Mentoring Chicago, Illinois Students by Olawale Idreez, & Lisa Kim (MIKVA Challenge: Democracy is a verb). First of all, it’s been said, “If Wishes Were Horses, Even Beggars Will Ride Freely!” No, I’m not talking about the 2019 Kentucky Derby Horse Race Winner, COUNTRY HOUSE. Congratulation is in order, nevertheless! I’m actually speaking about my personal opinion to President Donald J. Trump, and Religion Leader, Honorable Minister Louis Farakhan (Nation of Islam). Imagine what kind of peaceful atmosphere both Leaders can create, if they can call a national peace and economic summit; and speak to our youths precisely on how to deal with anger, frustration, unnecessary aggressions, and hatred. This could literally result in economic prosperity for the future of this great nation, USA; and particularly for the future of our youths. Why? They are the future. They are our future.
Olawale Idreez, Publisher Mary Ellen Richard,Executive PR
I just thought I should get that out of my humble mind before I have my DDC (Dunkin Donut Coffee). Speaking of our youths’ future, one could not resist giving accolades to the Chicago (Illinois) Elected Officials who took the initiatives to call on high school Students summit at the Marriot Hotel, 520 North Michigan Avenue, on April 15, 2019.. The Elected asked the youths to express their griefs, and how to resolve it. The issues varied from social media influences, impact of the communities they lived in, their future goals, and how to attain success in their life endeavors. Personally, I love the power of communication established at the forum. The Students were able to express their opinions freely about what think could be the hindrance from moving forward in life; without intimidation of discipline by their Schools. At the end of the forum, one can easily tell, that these brilliant students have been empowered, and ready to take their future by the horn.
My Dream Sky-Jet named “Ambition”
I strongly believed this is worthy cause rather than leading them astray, or worse, to watch them grow up, and spend their precious lives in jails. God forbids! Lest I forget to express my profound gratitude to Lisa Kim, who facilitated the Press meeting between Mikva Challenge, and AFRICA-USA Today Magazine Media. Thank you. HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY TO ALL THE WOMEN OF SUBSTANCE OUT THERE. YOU DESERVED THE BEST! Enjoy this special edition. It’s for you. Olawale Idreez can be reached at email: usafriglo@yahoo.com. Thank you for supporting this humble vision with your ads. For without you, there is no us.

CHICAGO — Sipping craft beer at an indie bar on this city’s affluent North Side, mayoral candidate Lori Lightfoot addressed a mostly white crowd in designer fleece and heavy-soled boots, the liberal voters who had propelled her to the top of a crowded mayoral primary last month with 17 percent of the vote. Lightfoot emphasized her “progressive” credentials: Her commitment to combating climate change. Her vow to end police violence. Her potential to be not only the first African American woman to lead the nation’s third-largest city, but also its first openly gay mayor. No matter who wins the April 2 runoff, Chicago will make history: Lightfoot’s opponent, Cook County Board of Commissioners President Toni Preckwinkle, is also a black woman. But neither candidate won a majority of the city’s black vote. While Chicago has a long history of pioneering black political leaders, from the Rev. Jesse Jackson to President Barack Obama, their successes have not translated into improved conditions in the city’s worst neighborhoods, leaving black voters here skeptical. White liberals have flocked to Lightfoot, 56, who casts herself as an outsider and candidate of change, but her background as a federal prosecutor worries many black voters. Preckwinkle, 71, also touts herself as a reformer who has pushed for stricter rent control laws and a reduction in the county jail population. But some black residents blame her for facilitating a wave of gentrification that has pushed workingclass residents out of Chicago’s South Side. “People still aren’t any closer to figuring out who the next mayor should be,” said Jawanza Malone, director of the Kenwood-Oakland Community Organization on Chicago’s South Side. “It’s great that they’re trying to ‘out-progressive’ each other now, but Toni Preckwinkle has a checkered past with this community, and so does Lori Lightfoot.” That tension became clear during the Feb. 26 mayoral primary, when Democratic voters rejected decades of control by the city’s political machine and by Mayor Rahm Emanuel (D), who abruptly decided not to seek reelection in September amid fallout from a policing scandal. “This is the first time in generations there wasn’t a dominant candidate, which demonstrates that the Chicago Machine has broken down over time. Now it’s just a bunch of rusty spare parts,” said David Axelrod, a former Obama adviser and a veteran of Chicago political campaigns. “That alone is a harbinger of change in Chicago.” A tide of change
Lightfoot and Preckwinkle emerged from a crowded field, riding a national wave of support for racially diverse female candidates that swept the country during the 2018 midterm elections. 18 AFRICA USA TODAY

Lori Lightfoot
A total of 14 candidates ran in the 2019 general election for Chicago mayor. The seat was open; incumbent Rahm Emanuelannounced in September 2018 that he would not seek re-election. Lightfoot said she was the independent reform candidate in the race and was not "tied to the broken political machine."[1] She referred to her experience in city government as equipping her to run the city, saying she has managed budgets and employees. Lightfoot also emphasized her experience managing teams in her legal profession.[2][3] She stated quality neighborhood schools, public safety, and the city's affordability for working families as priorities.[4][5]

Chicago Defender Men of Excellence
EVENTS
In today’s time, when negative news about Black men can top our newsfeeds and some conversations, there is one program in Chicago that continues to feature Black men who excel in their careers as well as in their service to the community and to their families. The Chicago Defender will honor 50 such men at its annual Men of Excellence Awards dinner. The 12th Annual Men of Excellence Awards dinner will take place on Friday, April 26 at the Hyatt Regency Chicago, 151 E. Wacker Drive. The awards program and dinner will take place from 6-9 p.m. The focus this year is mentorship and the importance of Black men serving as mentors to others, especially younger Black men and boys trying to find their way in business, entrepreneurship and life. Some of the distinguished honorees in this year’s class include community activist Andrew Holmes, The Honorable Judge Carl Boyd, entrepreneur Rick Edwards of Chicagoland Fat Loss Camps, and many other businessmen, lawyers, entrepreneurs and community leaders. The 50 honorees were selected from more than 100 nominations, according to Dyanna Lewis, vice president of marketing and sales at the Defender. “We salute men who are not only doing a great job in their careers but are also excellent in community service and family,” Lewis said. “We are acknowledging men who give back to the community – who go above and beyond. Doing [their] job is expected, but these men are those who go above and beyond in career and in community service.” The nomination form calls for “men who exemplify extraordinary strength and commitment to their profession and to the community. Nominees must also be at least 21 years of age, live within a 50mile radius of Chicago’s center and be active in their professions. The Men of Excellence award not only honors exemplary men, but it builds a strong network of likeminded men in the Chicagoland area. Several outstanding community members, politicians, businessmen, entrepreneurs and others have been recognized since its beginning in 2007. The inaugural class included Congressmen Bobby Rush, Danny Davis and Jesse Jackson Jr., Secretary of State Jesse White, jazz musician Ramsey Lewis and businessmen Spencer Leaks Sr. and Spencer Leaks Jr. “I’m very proud of that honor; today, I still look at that photo [of the inaugural class of Men of Excellence],” said Sam Balark, director of External Affairs at AT&T, who also served as board president of the Chicago Southland Chamber of Commerce at the time he received the award. “The Defender has meant so much to the community; this award stands out to people. It is hard to express how much it’s meant to me.” Another member of the inaugural class, Nathaniel Ward, who is now community relations liaison at City Colleges of Chicago, said receiving the award helped him develop his life-long relationship with his mentor, Craig Gilmore who was also a part of the first class. “I was one of the youngest in that class,” Ward recalled. “It was wonderful. [After the award], people were taking notice of what I was doing, I was running a small nonprofit at the time; people began to comment how they wanted to help. It was wonderful.”

The Joy of Motherhood April showers, they bring May flowers and babies too. Every year, lots of babies are born into the world. Thanks be to God for mothers who carry their babies to the point of delivery. These are very happy moments. Little booties, clothing, blankets, sweet smelling lotions, and powders. Time to put everything from the baby shower into use. These moments are either shared by husband and wife or by single parents, (mostly women) and other members of the family. This is the beginning of a long journey to adulthood. As a Christian mother, I had the privilage of raising my children to worship their Heavenly Father through His Son Jesus Christ by the Power of the Holy Spirit. Like me, all my children are believers in Jesus Christ. Now that my children are adults, and have their own children my grandchildren), I see the gift of motherhood reproduced. Ps.127:3kjv.- Lo! Children are a heritage of the Lord and the fruit of the womb is his reward. Motherhood is not without its challenges, but with God’s help, we can from one year to another, celebrate the joy of motherhood in the month of May. Have a happy, prosperous and joyful Mother’s Day to all mothers.

One’s Woman’s Journey through defeats and triumphs
This is a story of how one woman’s journey through defeats and triumphs led her to what is going to be the largest transfer of wealth in human history. Pam Benjamin (Peebs, as she was dubbed by her three sons) grew up on the east coast, the youngest of 8 children. Her father was an entrepreneur who owned his own successful furniture store. He taught her a great deal about perseverance, faith and persistence. After his entire livelihood “went up in smoke” in a Christmas Eve blaze when she was 5, he ultimately shook the cinders out of his clothes and went on to create not only a new building that would not BURN, but also a “novelty” furniture store that attracted not just furniture shoppers, but also the curious. He purchased 5 metal quonset huts from the military and placed them radiating out from a central entry hub. His bottom line only took 11 years to exceed his pre-fire business. Peebs inherited her Dad’s entrepreneurial spirit and was in sales and marketing with a number of companies and startups. During this time she had to draw on what she had learned from her father about rising above circumstances and perseverance when she had the “business alliance of a lifetime” evaporate not once, but twice, when two separate companies failed along with the indictments of both companies’ CEOs. Brought low, she shook the shards of those shattered alliances out of her hair and undertook the search for the “unbreakable” opportunity that would not only offer her a solution to a solid growing income, but also be her vehicle for “paying it forward”. She developed eight criteria: 1) Low start up cost; high ROI 2) Low overhead 3) Minimal or zero employee base required 4) Product(s) with universal appeal with clear beneficial impact 5) Minimal learning curve from inception to production 6) Unlimited potential, no glass ceiling 7) International Expansion potential 8) Knowledgeable business management team of unimpeachable integrity AFRICA USA TODAY 45

How to Change Your Mind
What the New Science of Psychedelics Teaches Us About Consciousness, Dying, Addiction, Depression, and Transcendence “Gripping and surprising . . . Makes losing your mind sound like the sanest thing a person could do.” —The New York Times Book Review “Pollan’s deeply researched chronicle will enlighten those who think of psychedelics chiefly as a kind of punchline to a joke about the Woodstock generation and hearten the growing number who view them as a potential antidote to our often stubbornly narrow minds. . . . Engaging and informative.” —The Boston Globe “Sweeping and often thrilling . . . It is to Pollan’s credit that, while he ranks among the best of science writers, he’s willing, when necessary, to abandon the genre’s fixation on materialist explanation as the only path to understanding. One of the book’s important messages is that the therapeutic benefits of psychedelics, for the dying or seriously ill, can’t be separated from the mystical experiences to which they give rise.” —The Guardian

“Michael Pollan’s How to Change Your Mind: The New Science of Psychedelics changed my mind, or at least some of the ideas held in my mind. . . . Whatever one may think of psychedelics, the book reminds us that the mind is the greatest mystery in the universe, that this mystery is always right here, and that we usually dedicate far too little time and energy to exploring it.” —Yuval Noah Harari, author of Sapiens and 21 Lessons for the 21st Century “Astounding.” —New York Magazine
Dear Friends and Readers, I am thrilled to tell you about my new book, How to Change Your Mind: What the New Science of Psychedelics Teaches Us About Consciousness, Dying, Addiction, Depression, and Transcendence. The book grew out of the reporting I did for a 2015 article about psychedelic psychotherapy in the New Yorker, called “The Trip Treatment.” I interviewed a number of cancer patients who, in the course of a single guided session on psilocybin, had such a powerful mystical experience that their fear of death either faded or vanished altogether. So began what grew into a two-year journey into the world of psychedelics—LSD, psilocybin, Ayahuasca and 5-MeO-DMT. The book explores the renaissance of scientific research into these compounds and their potential to relieve several kinds of mental suffering, including depression, anxiety, and addiction. It also delves into the rich history of psychedelics in America, tracing the promise of the early research in the fifties and how a moral panic about LSD in the mid-sixties led to decades of suppression, just now ending. Book Club Features I N A L I F E filled with meaning and accomplishment, Michelle Obama
has emerged as one of the most iconic and compelling women of our era. As First Lady of the United States of America—the first African American to serve in that role—she helped create the most welcoming and inclusive White House in history, while also establishing herself as a powerful advocate for women and girls in the U.S. and around the world, dramatically changing the ways that families pursue healthier and more active lives, and standing with her husband as he led America through some of its most harrowing moments. Along the way, she showed us a few dance moves, crushed Carpool Karaoke, and raised two down-toearth daughters under an unforgiving media glare. In her memoir, a work of deep reflection and mesmerizing storytelling, Michelle Obama invites readers into her world, chronicling the experiences that have shaped her—from her childhood on the South Side of Chicago to her years as an executive balancing the demands of motherhood and work, to her time spent at the world’s most famous address. With unerring honesty and lively wit, she describes her triumphs and her disappointments, both public and private, telling her full story as she has lived it—in her own words and on her own terms. Warm, wise, and revelatory, Becoming is the deeply personal reckoning of a woman of soul and substance who has steadily defied expectations—and whose story inspires us to do the same.
