MSA Connection! Each Unity Newsletter will feature a different faculty or staff member. This selection is designed for you to learn more about professional staff and faculty members on campus who can assist you in reaching your future goals. If you know a faculty or staff member you would like to see highlighted, please contact Jesse Ford at j.ford@miami.edu. • Hometown: Miami, FL • Where did you attend college and/or graduate school and what was your field/ fields of study: University of Florida – Bachelor of Science, Public Relations. As an undergrad, I tried to narrow my wide variety of interests by exploring what I enjoyed. As a result, I had internships with non-profits, events and promotions companies and even the University museum. It was a great learning opportunity. • Job duties: As Assistant Director of Career Events, I am in charge of all planning, coordination and logistics of career-related events at Toppel, most notably, our Career Expo each semester. I am also a part of the Employer Relations team, which means I do a significant amount of outreach to employers and companies who may be interested in hiring our students. Lastly, I advise RMAS students and those who are majoring in the social sciences such as economics, history, political science, etc. Betty Zambrano
• Office Location: Office #167 at the Toppel Career Center
Assistant Director, Career Events Toppel Career Center
• One piece of advice you would give students: You are in a place filled with scholars, researchers, artists, and innovators. Forge connections. Reach out to professors and peers who are doing things that interest you. Schedule coffee meetings and get to know people outside of a classroom setting. You’ll be amazed at how receptive people are to connecting and how much you learn from these new connections. • Favorite Quote: “On the whole, though I never arrived at the perfection I had been so ambitious of obtaining, but fell far short of it, yet as I was, by the endeavor, a better and a happier man than I otherwise should have been had I not attempted it” – Benjamin Franklin
