Diana and the Possum

Long ago, in Redlands, California, there was garage, with an olive grove behind it.

In that garage, a mother cat had just given birth to a litter of baby kittens.

One day, the mother cat went for a walk, leaving the baby kittens in the garage.

A few hours later, little Mark Holmes was playing outside. He went into the garage to check on the baby kittens.

Then, little Mark Holmes saw something that he had never seen before...

There was a baby possum sleeping in the basket with the baby kittens!

Mark ran through the yard, looking for his mother, Diana. When he found her, he said, “Mommy, come quick! There’s a baby possum sleeping with the baby kittens!”

Then, Diana went to the garage...

...and Diana had a look.

The baby possum was still sleeping, and was even more curled up with the baby kittens than before!

Diana began to worry what might happen if a big, mother possum came into the garage, looking for her little baby.

What if she got angry? That could be bad.

So, Diana got a broom and gently shoo’d the little baby possum out of the garage.

Well-rested, the baby possum ran back behind the alleyway and into the olive grove behind the garage.

And it was never seen again!
