All you need to know about plug valves Plug valves are those valves that have cone shaped or cylindrical plugs which can be rotated inside the valve body to control the flow of fluid. They are also known as stop cock valve. Plug valves belongs to the family of quarter-turn valve and are considered as one of the oldest types of valves. Types of plug valves Various kinds of plug valves are available in market each for different applications. Some commonly used plug valves are categorized asLubricated plug valves- In lubricated plug valve, there is cavity which is filled with lubricant such as amorphous silica. The lubricant allows the smooth movement of the plug by reducing the force required to open or close the valve. These valves are generally found in large size range and are highly resistive to corrosion. Non-lubricated valves- As the name suggests, these valves do not employ lubrication. Non-lubricating valve has a low coefficient of friction and that’s why they are self-lubricating. These valves required minimum maintenance that’s why used in special services where fluid could potentially jam the valve. Main types of non-lubricated plug valves are as follows• Elastomer sleeved non-lubricated plug valve • Fully-lined non-lubricated plug valve • Lift type non-lubricated plug valve Multiport plug valve- It is 3 way lubricated diverting valve which is mainly used in transfer line and diverting services. Multiport plug valve can serve the purpose of
