PRE FACE People’s desire to belong — through blending in fuels the growing lack of distinction between different kinds of people, when looking at style and dress. Therefore this Spring Summer 2016 trend; Springtime Space-Age, endeavours to provide a direct antithesis to mainstream fashion, by highlighting counter cultural movements taking place. By bringing to light these social and cultural shifts individuals are encouraged to express their inner creativity and thought, and as a result redefine what is considered ‘on-trend’ and ‘off-trend.’
The universe is home to around 10-billion superclusters and has an estimated 350-billion large galaxies — like the Milky Way (Filmer, 2014). However the Spring Summer 2016 trend predetermined by trend agencies operating in a crowded marketplace diverts attention away from outer space and into the misty depths of the ocean. The unexplored corners of our solar system are home to some of the most valuable information that the world will ever hold concerning life as we know it, and to determine what the future holds (Filmer, 2014). Springtime Space-Age returns attention to the most valuable information source the world will ever have access to. Consequently, providing an alternative to the darkened eerie depths of the sea, that inspires trends set out for brands to pass on to customers that will passively consume its styles for Spring Summer 2016.
INTR ODUC T I ON
Deep Summer, the Spring Summer 2016 trend forecasted by trend agency WGSN explores the misty depths of the ocean — home to weird creatures, bio-mimicry and morphing substances. But where the Deep Summer trend draws on inspiration from what lies beneath, Springtime Space-Age looks to the skies. Deep Summer fails to harness the most valuable information source the world has access to, and in turn diverts attention away from the worlds most vital asset. Springtime Space-Age provides a new type of consumer with an alternative trend that is intrigued by the unexplored corners of the solar system and unexplained phenomenons of the universe. In a rapidly enhancing world Springtime Space-Age is a vision of a future metropolis inspired with a space age sophistication. Styles are forward-thinking, yet cosmopolitan and in a world that continuously encourages individuals to look towards the future to provide answers for the unknown, it is no question why Springtime Space-Age is a leading trend for the innovators and opinion formers, who drive the creative industry forward.

LIGHTING LUMINESCENCE
LIGHTING LUMINESCENCE //
Improvements in technology see the increase in use of e-textiles. E-textiles create a glowing luminescence that resembles the iridescent colour manipulations of the solar system. Richard Nicoll designed a slip dress using mainly e-textiles for his Spring Summer 2015 collection . In a world where consumers are demanding more, it is not satisfactory for materials to just hang of the body, therefore this trend direction offers a sensory experience for its wearer. LIGHTING LUMINESCENCE takes inspiration from the most valuable information source that the world has access to. Offering an alternative to spring summer trends that aim to provide for the mass market, instead of appealing to a specific group of creative innovators.
