ABOUT C h i l d re n ’ s H e a rt F ederat ion WHO ARE WE? The Children’s Heart Federation is the nation’s leading children’s heart charity

Established 26 years ago to provide support at a national level to children with congenital heart disease, and their families.

CHF is the only children’s heart organisation that supports heart children regardless of where they are treated or the cause of their heart condition.

We work closely with other organisations who provide support to a specific group of children, such as heart condition children who have Down’s syndrome, or who provide help to children treated at a specific hospital.

How We Help Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) is the most common birth defect in the UK. 5,000 babies each year are born with a heart problem and in addition to this around 750 children develop a heart condition at some point after birth. At the Children’s Heart Federation we provide vital information and direct support to around 5,000 families each year, providing medical equipment to make a heart child’s life more ‘normal’. By maintaining a key link between patients, parents and the providers of healthcare services we are able to facilitate ‘life-saving’ peer support networks by bringing people together on social media and face-to-face. Group events and trips are often a crucial ‘crutch’ to families who may feel isolated in their personal battle with CHD. December saw us take 21 families to a Winter Wonderland weekend at Butlin’s – for many their only such break of the year. As part of this break we were able to recruit medical professionals as volunteers giving medical back-up, meaning that parents were able to have relaxed, in-depth discussions with specialist nurses, instead of a few minutes of often technical talk with their busy cardiologist.

Welcome to Team CHF500 and our brand new fundraising venture in the supercharged world of motorsport. Following the generous ‘donation’ of a complete endurance race team, we are running a Porsche in the Dunlop 24hr, at the world-famous Silverstone Race Track. Over the weekend of 24th to 26th April 2015, Team CHF500 will race against the cream of the UK and international endurance racers in the style of the Le Mans 24h race.

The four drivers racing all have a connection to the car; Paul Follett and Jonathan Evans, both previous owners of the car have raced in the Porsche Club Championship. Jonathan is also a trustee of the Charity. Alex Eacock of EMC Motorsport, originally built the car and is the fourth driver, Ben Demetriou who trained Paul and Jonathan, is a previous Porsche Club Champion in a Porsche.

WHAT IS BRITCAR 24HR? After a 2 year absence from the Motorsport calendar 24 Hour racing returns to Silverstone once again with Britcar 24hr being held on the 23 – 26th April 2015. Boosting the events international profile will be title sponsor Dunlop Tyres who have been long term supporters of endurance racing in England and are excited to be backing this great event. American fuel company SUNOCO will also be supporting the event as the official fuel supplier for the 2015 race. This will be more than a racing event. Planned additonal attractions include fairgrounds, live music, motocross displays and many other activities within the paddock area to keep all of our guests entertained over the weekend. There will still be plenty of action on the track with other racing events throughout the weekend.

Grand Prix Circuit The CHF500 Team will be racing on the Grand Prix Circuit. Silverstone is built on the site of a World War II Royal Air Force bomber station, RAF Silverstone, which opened in 1943 and is the current home of the British Grand Prix, which it first hosted in 1948.

Can You Help? For any family who have children with congenital heart disease, the expense of caring for their family exceeds those of most other families. Costs such as travel to specialist clinics, staying away from home and additional social support costs create financial difficulties for families. The Children’s Heart Federation try to support these financial pressures with welfare grants and by supplying specialist home-test equipment and training to help to ease the burden of stressful and expensive hospital visits. We need donations from companies and individuals to support events like this which are the foundation of the Children’s Heart Federation. Every penny raised will help to reduce the strain on families who are already stretched thin by life.
