Baseline Study
Kai Tak River (KTR) is located in East Kowloon in the Wong Tai Sin District. It was the industrial centre before the industrial decline of the 90s. Government plans aim to turn East Kowloon into the new Central Business District of Hong Kong
KTR is associated with pollution due to its industrial heritage. KTR’s upper course runs between San Po Kong , an industrial area, and 3 major Wong Tai Sin housing estates
The lower course of KTR runs into Kai Tak Development area, which used to be Kai Tak Airport. The large brownfield site is planned to have residential and commercial development, as well as tourism facilities and a sports stadium.
