Collection
About me Hi! My name is Jessica Manique, I am 24 years old and I am a Level 5 Illustration student at the London Metropolitan University. Based in London, my heart belongs to Portugal, my home. My work is mostly inspired by persons who have done me good through life and I am crazy for portraits. As a music and photography lover, I always photograph everything I see that inspires me but I love photographing, specially people. I always work with music in the background and mostly good vibes music due to believing it interferes with my mood and motivation. A a cinema fan, I love watching any kind of movie but specially Disney's, because it is something that makes me dream and gives me inspiration to my drawings. Love fashion and a recent passion for tattoos have made me want to get to know more about this art industry. A dream of travelling and drawing through the world makes me feel alive and hopeful.
I do better when things make me happy.’
About this module In this Collection Book, you will be seeing most of my Illustration course researches, development stages and projects outcomes. From my Inventivity Studio projects, to my Creative Industry Practice Class and my theory class, Critical and Contextual Studies. The Inventivity Studio is a super creative place that gives the opportunity to mix different artists, that show amazing and super different projects outcomes. It is mostly concentrated in branding, however and because I am an illustration student, apart from other peers, I have given my projects, an illustrated touch to it. The Creative Industry Practice Module is a helpful class to support and assist us, designers and illustrators apprentices and gain knowledge and experience in the working industry within creative trades.
I have been working on projects that reveal real-life situations that can be done individually or in a group atmosphere. By exploring individualism as creatives, this class made us learn ways of working and being able to critic in a smart way. These projects have been truly challenged to me and have pushed me out of my comfort zone, therefore, I am very proud of the final outcomes and hope you will enjoy it and feel inspired as much as motivated.
Thoughts of The Week Case Studies Every week, we would receive a name of a creative person that should be analysed, discussed and de-constructed. A purposal of our thought within the creative person would be required along with an image or an illustration.
Pastiche Project outcome - A video clip that demonstrates a critical thinking about a creative or inuence to us. Pastiche meaning An artistic work in a style that imitates that of another work, artist, or period.

My Choice My choice on the creative person is Miss Led, an English illustrator and I am truly passionate for the portraits she does. Portraits are her main subject and it is what I love doing the most either. Miss Led photographs close friends in certain poses so she can illustrate them afterwards. I ďŹ nd her work beautiful, emotive, and very alive, even though a bit cartoony. Therefore, I was photographed and photographed 3 more persons, so I could illustrate it. I decided to focus on this subject because it is something that I love (photographing or drawing faces) and her way of illustrating it it’s so magical to me, so inspiring and motivating. A process of photographing or ďŹ nding the best photo, illustrating it by pencil, then pen, having attention on the details, softly painted. To make it more personal, I decided to start by a photo of myself, and then of the people that are connected and mean a lot to me. Hidden in each illustration there will be type that describes what that person is to me.

My Choice I decided to challenge myself on this project and give the brand a new name, due to the concept behind it. A community help, a supportive place and a girl power movement. A place that aims to give an opportunity to those who need to start a new life. Therefore, 'New Leaf', instead of 'Oh Gee Pie', represents a new step or a new beginning.

Tattooing Yesterday and Today I do not have any tattoo but I always thought about it. I always
felt passionate and amazed by tattoos on people. I believe it is the fear of needles that have put me away from having a
beautiful piece of art marked in my body but these last couple
of years made me think about it again, and in a different way. I feel very curious to learn how to tattoo.
With this Tattooing case study, I will take the opportunity to
learn about it, in a theoretical way and there is so much to know about it, specially from its past.
Tattooing yesterday and today it’s everything but similar. It is obviously and still, a permanent mark in your body, but its technique has changed, the materials that are used are
different and the approach of having a tattoo I believe has
changed too, but not as much as I think it should have. Even though it is quite different, we can still find the old/original
technique, made by experienced people, in specific countries.
There are also countries that still prohibit tattoos because it can be seen as a criminal mark.
There is much more to get to know and this case study will be approaching the tattoo history, it’s prejudice, popularity and symbolism, in a deep and more thoughtfull way.
