Monogram and Stationery Set
Visible Language
stationery set business card letterhead envelope BRIEF Monogram and stationery set requires the incorporation of typographic forms that challenge and test the design and production of letterforms. The project highlights the importance of handgenerated design, shapes and composition and digital processing using Illustrator and InDesign for further development. The personal monogram is a combination of clean design and geometric inspiration following a strict structure.

Signs and Symbols
BRIEF Ancient Greek epic poems The Odyssey, The Iliad and The Aeneid explore the notion of brave heroes through victorious battles and great sacrifices. The book series visually expresses metaphoric design concepts and visual language through the use of Greek themed metaphors. The wreath representing the pride of the smart and brave Odysseus, the helmet of Achilles in the war literature The Iliad and the famous story of the burning town and Trojan Horse of The Aeneid.

BRIEF The project challenges to construct a square book with constrained visual language where meaning is gained through the employment of a graphic sequence. Layers, explores the structure of the earth, from the inner core to the composition from the atmosphere to the exosphere. Bold graphic elements constructed on Illustrator with peep-holes creates excitement as the pages explore deeper into space.

Typography, Text and Form
BRIEF This typographic poster series explores composition and highlights the importance of typographical hierarchy, the poster utilises generated type and its application as an illustration. Elements emphasised in this project include, widows and alignment while also refining basic typographic detailing, column width and consideration of font size and weight for legibility. Typeset has taught me how to design and work on a larger scale beyond the computer screen, highlighting the importance of scale prints at A2 size and understand the complexity of typographic detailing.

Monogram and Stationery Set The project aims for a visually engaging monogram further developed into a stationery set with a potential future use, inspiration comes from the desire to follow a set structure and geometric shapes. The final stationery set should have elements that unify the design; the personal monogram and stationery set should be minimal but not simple and overall create a professional impression. I believe that the final design solution has satisfied the brief and my personal desires through the exploration of gestalt theory with the law of closure depicted by the incomplete ‘W’ however the triangle motif stimulates the viewer to perceive the image as a W due to the repeating triangles. The law of similarity completes the monogram with the use of the formulated triangles. The viewer perceives the shapes as a single unit because the shapes are similar hence form the whole monogram. I have approached the minimal and simple idea by geometric shapes through 2 types of triangles, the isosceles and equilateral as a whole and half the equilateral to construct the monogram, the use of triangles also satisfies the desire for the monogram to appear secure hence the triangle is the strongest shape in nature. The strong appearance of the monogram is also reflected in the stationery set, the business card and letterhead details as following a centred composition ensuring stability and balance. Ultimately the monogram is a daring and risky as it explores deeper the gestalt theory, the subtle hint satisfies the minimal aspect as being clear and concise initials but not simple as it follows strict set rules.
