Follow Me to the Stars Charity Gala

Saturday, June 28, 2014 Hotel ZaZa

Dear Friends of the Moran Norris Foundation, We feel so fortunate to have received full support in prior years from our friends of the Foundation—sponsors, board members, professional athletes, educators, and volunteers. And, today, we hope to bring together both our old and new friends to reach the Moran Norris Foundation’s ambitious fundraising goals for 2014. This year’s charity gala will be like no other-with a black-tie optional, fun-filled evening including a “Mingle with the Stars” VIP cocktail hour featuring football legend and keynote speaker Marshall Faulk, NFL star players, local celebrities, and entertainment.

We hope that you will consider donating and participating in the fundraising efforts for our charity gala, which is the most prominent event supporting our Foundation. We are raising the bar this year to provide resources to our underserved public schools in Houston and its surrounding areas. We hope to double our impact through scholarships, athletic camps, character leadership, and development of new programs in support of our local youth. Your generosity will make a difference in our community by allowing the Moran Norris Foundation to provide opportunities for our Houston youth to reach for the stars. Our very best, Tamara and Moran

“ This year we are proud to celebrate the eigth annual Follow Me to the Stars charity gala. When my wife Tamara and I started the Foundation, we had one goal in mind: To be a catalyst for positive change for our Houston youth.” -Moran Norris

“ My experience at the Moran Norris Foundation Camp was fun and made me work hard. It was a learning experience, and I feel good about the skills I acquired. My favorite part about the camp was just being there and being a part of it all...” -Brendon, Camp Participant

Drills at Sports and Agility Camps

Moran Norris Sports & Agility Camps The Moran Norris Sports & Agility Camps are summer youth camps that give Houston-area students a chance to work one-on-one with professional athletes who volunteer their time to support the Foundation. Campers, ages 7–17, participate in fundamental drills, specialized position drills, a kicking session, and team play. This year, we plan to include athletes from various sports such as soccer, baseball, and basketball to provide our youth with a diversity of athletic disciplines on the field. Campers who demonstrate dedication to developing skills, achieving session goals, and displaying a spirit of teamwork will be awarded the Moran Norris Foundation Achievement Award. A host of other prizes and take-a-ways will be awarded to all campers for their participation and meeting the camp’s objectives. Selected high school campers who meet specified criteria and who successfully adhere to guidelines are awarded a scholarship to attend a higher educational institution. Scholarship amounts are determined annually by the Foundation’s board members.

Shopping for Good Character This end-of-school-year activity offers students from participating Houston public schools the opportunity to go on a shopping spree as an incentive for their substantial improvement and achievement in demonstrating good character. Students are observed in areas such as attendance, conduct, work ethic, and extracurricular and community participation. Shopping sprees are conducted at the end of the spring semester followed by an award program where selected students are awarded laptops.

Athletes for Art The Moran Norris Foundation supports Houston-area public schools fine arts programs by providing financial resources, encouraging youth participation, and engaging local artists to supervise collaborative student art projects (i.e., commemorative art pieces, large canvas art, murals, etc.) to increase student artistic achievement.

Follow Your Dream Scholarship After researching the need for financial assistance within Houston-area schools, the Moran Norris Foundation

has identified a population of students who are less likely to continue their educationafter high school because of a lack of financial resources. Students within this population include dedicated athletes who may not meet academic or athletic criteria to receive a college scholarship. The Follow Your Dream Scholarship fund encourages student athletes within this gap to attend college by providing financial assistance for tuition, books, and other general educational expenses. Partial scholarships of $1,500 each are awarded annually to selected deserving high school students.

Pay Now Play Later In a private forum, Moran Norris Foundation founder, Moran Norris, speaks with Houston-area high school students throughout the year challenging and encouraging youth to take advantage of their education and develop great individual character. Moran Norris, along with other successful professionals, discuss setting expectations, graduating from high school, attending college, and pursuing careers.
