VERIFY CORRECTNESS OF WEIGHT AND PRICE Verification of information labels should be made routinely. Check the multiplication of price-per-pound times weight and check the indicated weight against printed weight. Weigh the same package several times to verify consistency. Bear in mind that some packages which weigh near the middle of the .01 lb. increment will normally vary up or down by .01 lb. Greater variations than .01 lb. indicate a need for adjustment of the system. In such cases, or whenever necessary, call your authorized Hobart service representative. –3–

SP80/SP1500 SCALE PRINTER SYSTEM SUPERVISOR MANUAL Save These Instructions GENERAL The SP80/SP1500 Scale Printer System prints merchandising labels used to identify, price, and Bar Code a variety of supermarket items. PLU Code, UPC Number, description, class, tare weight, shelf life, product life, and price per unit — are field names used to code labels. Expanded text, nutrifacts, and nutridata fields allow the SP1500 (not SP80) to provide cooking instructions, ingredients, and/or nutritional information. The elevated display panel enables both customer and operator to view numeric transaction data: Weight, Price ($ / lb. or By Count quantity) and Total Price for the item. The optional Marquee Display allows a special advertising message or the product description to be viewed by the customer in addition to the transaction data. SP21500 can be used without weigher as a label printer; connected with a model SPS scale as a hand wrap station or service scale; or with model CSWS scale and the NSW Stretch Wrapper. Some models may not have the real time clock feature unless equipped for ScaleMaster communications.

TM

Label information, printed on pages 15 – 16, is discussed in the relative supervisor function: File Update (p.22) File Review (p.23) Expanded Text (p.26-27) NutriFacts (p.36) Special Messages (p.39) Operator ID's (p.61). Printing a Speed Key overlay (not shown) is described on page 40. Totals information, printed on page 17, is discussed on pages 41 – 50. This Supervisor Manual describes programming; operator instructions are in the Operator Manual.

The label's size determines how much information can be included. Some restrictions apply when interchanging label sizes and types: A Style Label Types 3, 4, 5 bottom bar code labels can be mixed with Label Types 0, 1, 2; and Non-A Style Label Types 3 or 4 top or bottom bar code labels can be mixed with Label Types 0, 1, 2. A Style labels have an A on the backing paper bar. Continuous roll 21/4" wide adhesive backed paper may be used on SP1500 to print labels and for itemized tickets which accumulate a total for a group of items. Thermal print adding machine paper, 21/4" wide, may be used for certain Supervisor functions. If enabled, the 2 Piece, die cut, 6 inch label, allows tear off of Ingredients, Bar Code, and Total Price which can be placed on the bottom or side of the package while Product Description, Total Price, Sell By Date, Time, Net Wt, and Unit Price are compactly printed for placement on the top of the package. This provides product visibility, easy bottom or side scanning, and a large space for necessary information — primarily for the bakery. If enabled, a two line Special Message (11 characters per line) can be printed on Label Type 5 (6” long). Printer The SP80/SP1500 System includes a thermal printhead requiring no ink or ribbon. Thermal print labels (preprinted or plain) are used for transactions. Large diameter rolls are used only on model SP21500 due to its large cartridge capacity. SP80 uses only Label Type 1 (formerly J size). Loading Label Stock On models SP80 and SP1500, follow instructions underneath the platter to install label rolls. On model SP21500, follow instructions located inside the printer door for installing label rolls. Hobart labels are recommended in the interest of minimizing service problems and extending printhead life. Adjusting Scale level Locate the level on the front of the scale. It can be seen through a hole in the main scale housing. Adjust the feet until the “bubble” is in the middle of the level. –5–

\F Frame mode.

Text following this command is automatically grouped into segments less than or equal to 16 characters centered in the marquee display. An end of message segment is defined by any control command or by the space character nearest to the end of the 16 character segment.

• Display Control Commands — further enhance presentation of Marquee Messages.

5.

\ C Clear display.

This will clear the display when changing from Frame to Scroll mode. Precede an embedded \ S with \ C and the last frame will clear before the scroll portion of the message begins from the right.

\ R Return.

The return command is used during scroll mode to roll message data completely off to the left before proceeding with additional message data. This is helpful in the transition from scroll to frame mode. All data would thus have sufficient scrolling time to be read before a new ‘frame’ display replaced it. And \ R acts as a general purpose message delimiter in the frame mode.

\ \ Backslash.

Use the double backslash if you need a single backslash character “\” in the message.

\ B Blink toggle.

Text enclosed between occurrences of this command will blink on and off at a rate of 2 blinks/second. The start of a message assumes no blinking.

\ H Hold.

Scroll mode— will freeze the current display for 1 second. Frame mode— will add 1 second to the display time for the current frame.

Enter 51 and press Enter. 1, 2, or 3

Definition: ByCnt Method determines which of three formulas is used to calculate the Total Price for By Count items when less than the By Count quantity is sold. Method 1. This method yields results between Method 2 and Method 3. Total Price is closer to Method 2 for less than half the By Count quantity and approaches Method 3 values for more than half. See Example for comparison. Method 2.

By Count Price x Quantity Sold = By Count Quantity

Method 3. By Count Price x Quantity Sold = By Count Quantity

Total Price ** Total Price ***

** By Count Price is divided by By Count Quantity and the answer is rounded up to the next cent; the answer is multiplied by the Quantity Sold. If the By Count quantity is sold, the bargain differential is subtracted so as not to exceed the By Count Price. *** The division is performed last and the answer is carried to three decimals; any fraction is then rounded up to the next cent. NOTE: Formerly, Bycnt Calc 1 On was Method 1; Off was Method 2; and Method 3 was not available. Example: By Count Price is $2.09; By Count Quantity is 12.

Two tasks are attempting to access a data record at the same time. For example: Operator Mode and SCALEMASTER are both trying to call up a record at the same time.

Record Lost

A Class or PLU was linked in a chain that does not report to Class 999999.

Record Not Found

The requested record is not in memory.

Record Suspect

Record may be corrupt.

Rezero Scale

Scale is attempting to reset to zero.

Scale Not Zero

Attempt to enter By Count mode with weight on the platter. This occurs also in File Update if platter Tare is disabled and there is a weight on the platter.

Secret ID

This is the same as Operator ID except for Supervisor Mode. An identification number with an access level of 2 – 5 is needed by system security to authorize permission to enter Supervisor functions. The access level of the ID determines which functions may be entered.

Sizing Label

Printer is checking the size and type of the label stock being used.

System Error

A previous error on power-up prevents the scale from entering Operator Mode. You may enter Supervisor Mode in an attempt to correct the problem.

Take Label

The Printer is waiting for the label to be taken.

Thermal Overload

The Printhead exceeds the maximum operating temperature.

Under Range

The Scale is indicating a weight that is far below zero. – 122 –

DISPLAY PROMPT

DEFINITION

Write Aborted

Write function (using either tape or disk) was stopped before completion.

Wrong Label Type

Trying to print on the wrong type of label (i.e. Individual Labels vs. Listing Paper).

Wrong Link

A Class or PLU is linked to a chain which does not report to Class 999999.

Zero Range Error

Scale is beyond its normal zero range. Be sure platter is installed properly and empty (no weight).

MAXIMUM NUMBER OF PLU’S FOR VARIOUS MEMORY CONFIGURATIONS The total number of PLU’s shown in the chart below are based on the following assumptions: Each PLU has 64 charcters of product name (Description); each Label Type 3 uses 640 characters of expanded text; and each Label Type 4 uses 1500 characters of expanded text. Decreasing the number of characters used for description, expanded text and nutrifacts will allow more PLU files. NOTE: This information is for estimation purposes only and does not mean that labels can be configured with the amount of information assumed.
