Make do with what you have
I have learnt a pretty important lesson today: To make do with what you have, because the time is NOW. It all started this morning when my boyfriend and I planned to go to a certain location to shoot my rst you tube video. I’ve been meaning to do this for a while, but kind of postponed since I’m all awkward and quirky and didn’t feel like a camera would help much. I did, however, also feel that it would be a great way to document my journey and to boost my con dence as well. Our plans soon fell apart when we were no longer able to shoot where we originally planned and we became negative. All of a sudden my iphone was no longer good enough for the shoot and even the weather was blamed for why it would not be possible to shoot today. I also began overthinking whether my content would be good enough, etc. Shortly after we realized what we were busy doing (aka making excuses), we decided to make the best out of what we had available at the time. So, with my almost busted iphone, which pretty much had a dead battery at this point, we decided to go to a restaurant to have lunch while my phone charged. It’s amazing how things just tend to fall into place when you make do with what you have. As soon as the camera started rolling, it appeared as if I had lost the gift of speaking the English language. It was painfully awkward and at rst I hated every second of it. I disliked my facial expressions and pretty much everything about it. Eventually I loosened up a little as we continued lming. Later we were just recording each other doing silly things and almost completely

wanted to shoot. We ended the shoot thinking it was a total mess and that we will try again the next day. But on the walk home, we actually had the idea of using the quirkiness, the jokes and the unorganized mess we created to our advantage. We realized that it is so important to make do with what you have. I’m not going to change into a charming socialite anytime soon. And I’m ne with that. I’m also most probably also not going to buy top notch camera equipment anytime soon either. Lets face it, its pretty pricey. There will also always be circumstances, such as the weather, etc which will be totally out of our control. We realized that authenticity will always beat charm and that we should celebrate our own charms, instead of seeking others’. We also might not have had the best equipment and we also didn’t end up shooting where we originally wanted to shoot, but we did it anyway! I now have my rst video on you tube and I felt that it gave me such a big con dence boost! I can’t wait to shoot my next one!
