Willmott Dixon wins £18m historic London school rebuild Willmott Dixon has scored top marks with an £18m bid to build an all-years school in south east London. Construction will start in January on the contract, which is part of St Dunstan’s College’s wider plan to significantly redevelop its Catford site – which has stood since the independent school’s foundation in 1888. An existing building will be demolished to make way for a new combined junior school, STEM building and Sixth Form Hub.
Designed by Bond Bryan, the new buildings will be sited adjacent to the existing historic Headmaster’s House and be connected by a glass atrium. Adam Worrall, Director, Willmott Dixon in the London & South region, said phase one would see the new junior school built, while phase two would see the delivery of the STEM Centre and Sixth Form Hub.
Facing Brick - Linea - Vande Moortel The Linea range of facing bricks from Vande Moortel are a slim facing brick, which are well suited for accentuating clean linear designs in decorative brickwork. The Linea range are produced using Vande Moortel’s ‘HandMade’ production technique which p ro duce s a s tron g brick with rich natural colour variations. An existing building will be demolished to make way for a new combined junior school, STEM building and Sixth Form Hub. The Linea range is available with four matching brick slips; a facing, a corner option, a horizontal slip and a stretcher reveal slip. At 20mm thick These brick slips ensure that a continuity of detailing can be achieved. These bricks are an entirely natural product, made of alluvial clay from the Quaternary from the Scheldt Valley. The brick is formed in an un-sanded mold with the clay fired at at-least 1150 °C. The facing brick is a solid molded brick and has a homogeneous structure. It is free from lime and other inclusions and has at least one stretch and one head which are free from cracks and other aspects which negatively affect the overall appearance of the brickwork. developer-update.co.uk
Vande Moortel’s ‘Hand-Made’ manufacturing process means that each brick is unique. Natural colour variations are achieved through a reduced firing process with varying levels of oxygen. The burn marks on the bricks are achieved by manually scattering coals over the bricks during the firing process. This manual production process gives the bricks rough contours and faint stripe patterns.

York House York House, The Office Group (TOG)’s latest flexible workspace, has opened in King’s Cross, following a complete refurbishment and extension undertaken by dMFK Architects. The reimagined workspace, set across 70,000 sq ft over eight storeys, transforms the former 1980’s office building into a larger dynamic space for TOG’s membership base, featuring best in class amenities including a state-ofthe-art gym, café, library, terraces and roof gardens with panoramic views of the city. In designing the interior concept, dMFK cites influences from the Golden Age of British sculpture, furniture, and reference to the building’s roots in the post-war British Art scene. The architects created welcoming entrance at ground level comprised a substantial five storey extension, constructed using a timber frame and angled lattice brickwork in the same brick as the original building. Ben Knight, Director at dMFK Architects, commented: “Our seventh and largest office building for The Office Group, this is undoubtedly our most ambitious to date. dMFK’s goal from the outset was to achieve more permeability, opening the building up to the daylight, giving it a more welcoming feel, and maximising the potential of the space throughout.” www.dmfk.co.uk developer-update.co.uk

Plans for massive logistics centre unveiled – The New Amazon Warehouse by the A66 takes shape Plans for a massive logistics centre believed to be for online retailer Amazon have been unveiled by its developer.
It is thought the online giant could create up to 3,500 jobs with the 1.6m sq ft logistics fulfilment centre next to the A66 in Darlington. The identity of the site’s operator has not been officially confirmed but national logistics developer db symmetry has secured a £120m letting at Symmetry Park and said the tenant is a ‘world-leading retailer’. Now db symmetry, in partnership with landowners Durham Cathedral, has unveiled how the development will look when finished, bringing a major economic asset to the Tees Valley. Construction for Symmetry Park is gaining momentum with the steelwork already completed for the first phase of the £100m logistics and distribution hub. ISG Construction is main contractor for the building. Symmetry Park, Darlington is a 90-acre site located on the A66, developer-update.co.uk
seven miles from Junction 57 of the A1 motorway and 20 miles from Tees Port. Since acquiring the site last November, db symmetry has secured planning consent for over 1.6m sq ft of B1, B2 and B8 uses and intends to gain outline consent for a further 500,000 sq ft on the remaining 37 acres. db symmetry recently hosted an event in Newcastle to officially launch the scheme to North East agents representing the potential occupier market with a strong marketing drive to showcase the key attributes of the site in terms of specification and location. With the potential to create around 3,500 new jobs and contribute £180m to the regional economy, the developer said Symmetry Park Darlington is a significant new asset for regional and national investment.
Andrew Dickman, director at db symmetry said: “We are pleased to formally bring Symmetry Park Darlington to market as an exceptionally strong proposition to those seeking a base in the North East. Having already pre-let a significant proportion of the site to a high calibre operator, we are in a strong position with funding in place and full site infrastructure construction underway. “We can offer bespoke design and build options from 50,000 sq ft to 500,000 sq ft and potential for roadside amenities in the form of a hotel, a petrol filling station, drive through, restaurants and offices.” Colliers International is jointly advising db symmetry with Gent Visick and Carter Jonas. Durham Cathedral was represented by Carter Jonas. The project team includes Lichfields, GVA, Harris Partnership, JPG and Desco.

– A new era of new sealants, from the creators of CT1
CT1 which is known by the trade and was christened as The Snag List Eliminator, changed the world of sealants forever. Introducing Hybrid Technology 18 years ago, the competition followed suit and released a flurry of sealants adorning the label “Hybrid Polymer”. CT1 who seem to never sleep in their Research and Development Department, constantly strive to bring the latest technology to the building industry and lead the way in development. TRIBRID® Technology is the latest era of sealants. The science behind this has blown the industry away. Never seen before, never used before and never to be repeated, BT1 with TRIBRID® Technology has changed the world of bathroom sealants forever.
Welcome to TRIBRID® Technology – the Ultimate Bathroom Sealant and Adhesive. Bathrooms are usually the most contaminated area of the house, and are typically the first area of the home that sealants discolour and eventually grow fungus and bacteria. CT1 knew of the need to create the ultimate product for the bathroom, which would guarantee no mould or fungus growth at all! In fact it doesn’t stop there, tested in leading laboratories in the UK for bacteria and mould, the results were outstanding! developer-update.co.uk
When BT1 was tested alongside 5 of the UK’s leading conventional sealants, the results were mind blowing. BT1 had ZERO impregnation of bacteria and fungal growth, whilst the others performed poorly. BT1, which is also the healthiest option for the bathroom and the most eco-friendly sealant and adhesive, shares the same accreditations as its sister CT1. BT1 is for bathrooms only. It retains its dazzling white colour and can be used as the ultimate product for the bathroom. Perfect for installing shower trays and panels without mechanical fixings, the multipurpose sanitaryware sealant has taken the industry by storm. But since its breakthrough onto the market, this tube of science is now being used in hospitals, clinics and any space which demands the cleanest of areas. Building Contractors and Bathroom Installers are buying this scientifically and technically enhanced product for the professional! BT1 has been hitting the headlines on Social Media and all literature. BT1 has been proven to reduce bacteria by 99.99% and is effective against E. coli and MRSA. GRAHAM ‘top’ of the class at new Oundle School Sports Centre GRAHAM has marked a major milestone in the construction of a new Sports Centre at Oundle School with a topping out ceremony. The event gathered representatives from the privately-owned contractor and Oundle School to celebrate the progress of the £24m project. Once complete in Spring 2020, Oundle School Sports Centre will accommodate a 50-metre swimming pool, an eight court sports hall that offers adaptable playing space for a range of sports, as well as the opportunity for whole School assemblies through the use of retractable seating, a 70-station fitness suite, a dedicated dance studio, and three further multipurpose rooms. Dual use has been factored into the development to ensure that there will be year-round community and sports club access to the state-of-the-art facilities that span 5,000m2 of space. Designed by Saunders Boston Architects, GRAHAM has implemented a range of off-site manufacturing processes into its construction programme with the main frame being constructed of Cross Laminated Timber panels, providing a sustainable structure with a high-quality finish. developer-update.co.uk
Significant milestone Commenting on the project, Ronan Hughes, GRAHAM Regional Director, said: “The topping out ceremony represents a significant milestone in the construction of the new Sports Centre at Oundle School. We are proud to be working in partnership with Oundle School, which is one of England’s leading co-educational independent schools. “The new Centre will provide its pupils with elite sporting facilities and will help support the School’s vision to deliver a ‘thoughtful vision of sport’ to approximately 1,100 pupils at Oundle as well as a further 260 pupils at Laxton Junior School. Importantly, the multi-functional sports development will also be a hub for sporting and physical well-being activities for the wider community of the market town. “GRAHAM has a proud tradition in the education sector, and this exemplar project is a further example of the technical expertise,
13
quality and attention to detail that will deliver lasting impact to the pupils and wider community of Oundle.”
Sports Masterplan Oundle School, in Northamptonshire, is the third largest independent co-educational day and boarding school in England. Its pupils range from ages 11 – 18 and it also has a Junior School; Laxton Junior School for pupils aged 4 – 11. The School has invested considerably in its sporting infrastructure as part of a wider Sports Masterplan that has also led to the development of a new athletics track, eight additional tennis courts, two new AstroTurf pitches, and six additional netball courts. Speaking at the topping out ceremony, Sarah Kerr-Dineen, Head of Oundle School, said: “The new Sports Centre is really starting to take shape and to become a reality. For all of us who have been part of the process from the beginning, it is exciting to see the progress that is being made. The facilities will support sport at a top competitive level whilst catering for a multitude of sports and leisure activities at all levels, not just for our pupils but the broader community of which the School is a central part. “We want our pupils to take from School the attitudes, knowledge and enthusiasms that will support a happy, productive adult life. This must also be true of our School sport, and this new Sports Centre will make a massive contribution to realising this ambition.”
Background Information on Oundle School Oundle School is situated in the quintessentially English market town of Oundle, about 90 miles north of London. The School’s buildings, dating from the 17th to the 21st centuries, are dispersed throughout the town, which is, to a large extent, its campus.
The School’s history dates back to 1556, when Sir William Laxton, Master of the Worshipful Company of Grocers and Lord Mayor of London, endowed and re-founded the original Oundle Grammar School, of which he was a former pupil. In 1876, the Grocer’s Company divided the School into two parts; Laxton Grammar School, primarily for the inhabitants of the town, and Oundle School, primarily for pupils from further afield. In 2000, the Grocers’ Company reunited the two schools under the common name of Oundle School and retained the name of Laxton for the day House. At the beginning of the 20th century, Oundle was put firmly on the map of leading English public schools by its most famous headmaster, F W Sanderson, who established Oundle’s reputation as one of the great science and engineering schools, a reputation still renowned today. In 2016, the School completed its ambitious SciTec project, uniting Science, Mathematics, Design, Technology and Engineering both physically and philosophically, enabling pupils to move seamlessly from theory to practice and from pure science to the achievement of a workable technology. The development includes the groundbreaking Patrick Engineering Centre, a new Mathematics department and an extension to its sixteen state-of-the-art Science laboratories. Oundle is now completing a detailed Sports MasterPlan which will significantly upgrade sporting facilities across the School by 2020, incorporating the building of a new Sports Centre housing a fifty metre swimming pool and an eight court sports hall. There are currently 1107 pupils on roll at Oundle School, with 837 boarders and 270-day pupils. Also, within the Corporation of Oundle School is Laxton Junior School, a day school for children aged 4 to 11. www.graham.co.uk developer-update.co.uk

Recovery of a jumper connector running tool after jumper installation.
RUD ROV Hooks for Subsea Installations Oceaneering International, Inc. (Oceaneering) used four 10-tonne capacity remotely operated vehicle (ROV) hooks from RUD to fulfill two major subsea contracts recently—both in the Gulf of Mexico. The products were sourced from RUD distributor LiftPull. First, Oceaneering used the hooks to install long baseline (LBL) transponder frames, weighing 2,000 lbs. each, at specified subsea locations. Oceaneering was contracted by a major offshore oil and gas company to deploy six LBL array Compatt frames (a transponder used for high precision survey and construction operations) and populate the array in 7,200 fsw using the 257 ft.-long multi-purpose support vessel (MSV), Connor Bordelon.

15
Recovery of a subsea basket after jumper installation. In a second contract for another major oil and gas company, the ROV hooks were again used to install a rigid M-shape jumper and associated subsea distribution hardware. Here, the hooks were used to make several smaller lifts of ancillary equipment and frames, weighing between 5,500 lbs. and 10,000 lbs., in support of the jumper installation using the 309 ft.-long MSV Cade Candies. Dan Cheek, engineering manager, Subsea Projects Group at Oceaneering, said: “We were looking for a safe and time-efficient solution to connect and disconnect loads subsea using a ROV. We needed something to reduce the risk of dropped objects, especially when passing through the water interface, and provide a user-friendly subsea solution. The alternative option would have been to use a ROV shackle in place of a ROV hook.” The LBL Compatts allow for detailed acoustic positioning of subsea assets by surface vessels and tracking of the ROVs. Cheek explained that the frames hold the transponders upright subsea and off the seabed. Ruben Delgadillo, regional sales manager at LiftPull, said: “The safe lifting and lowering of loads on deck and
underwater up to depths of up to 10,000 ft.—coupled with ambient conditions, unpredictable currents and difficult lighting—presents enormous challenges. Further, the sector is nearly always time pressured and precision is always fundamental to safety.” He added: “The new RUD ROV hook provides two efficient lifting solutions for demanding marine and offshore applications. Its innovative safety mechanism makes it impossible to accidentally open the hook. We serve as a DNV GL-qualified partner for marine and offshore applications with a comprehensive range of sling and lashing solutions.” RUD also offers a higher capacity, 25-tonne version of the ROV hook. Cheek said: “We intend to use the 10-tonne capacity hook for upcoming contracts; it is especially useful for deploying and recovering the ancillary equipment and frames required to complete many of our projects. However, we are also excited about the 25-tonne version and see potential use for it on future assignments.” For approx. 18 months, The Caldwell Group and the RUD Group have united their sales and marketing activities in North America for material handling and lifting devices within a common organization.

A-Safe Launches Cold Storage Protective Guarding Range A-Safe Inc. has launched a new range of protective barrier developed by world-class polymer scientists to deliver maximum performance at sub-zero temperatures as low as -22°F.
The Baltimore, Maryland-based manufacturer of guarding products for warehouses, distribution centers and other facilities is primarily targeting the range at the food storage industry. Created from a unique blend of polymers, Memaplex Sub-Zero is designed to withstand impacts without cracking or fragmenting. It is food-safe, wipe clean and self-colored for maximum hygiene and ease of care. Like other products in the range, it is made from A-Safe’s Memaplex material, the company’s patented blend of eight materials and rubber additives that, practically, absorbs impact without incurring damage. Additionally, it is purpose-designed for use in frozen food storage facilities and other challenging, subdeveloper-update.co.uk
zero environments (it can be used up to +32°F).
17
Paul Barlow, CEO at A-Safe Inc., said: “The product is suited mainly to warehouses and food manufacturing, which require sub-zero ambient temperatures to be maintained at all times. Other polymer product manufacturers may imply that their materials can cope with these low temperatures, but in reality they cannot provide the impact ratings when the environment is that cold, due to the fact that normal HDPE [high-density polyethylene] or PVC [polyvinyl chloride] becomes very stiff and brittle at low temperatures.” He added: “Typically, traditional polymers on the market can only operate in continuous temperatures down to 14°F. Memaplex Sub-Zero has been specifically developed for greater extremes. It offers the same benefits of our other products, including impact absorbing, low maintenance, reduced floor damage etc.—just in lower temperatures.” A limited number of products are available upon last month’s (October) launch, including RackGuards, Standard Bollards, ForkGuard, Height Restrictors, Pedestrian Barriers, Single Traffic Barriers, and Single Traffic+ Barriers. All are identifiable by the blue accenting of the product to identify it as a ‘cold storage’ system. Barlow said A-Safe will be the first polymer barrier manufacturer to offer a “special polymer blend specifically designed for applications at subzero temperatures”. The product, designed with the highest levels of protection to pedestrians, assets and infrastructure in mind, incorporates the patented A-Safe 3Phase Coupling System, which works in three sequential stages to cushion impact forces and dissipate energy through the barrier and away from fixings. This prevents damage and preserves floors, reducing the costs and downtime associated with repairs and maintenance. A-Safe will offer the new product directly to end-users and to the reseller / distributor marketplace. developer-update.co.uk

Platform lift enables access to the EIS, Sheffield Located just over a mile North East of Sheffield City Centre is the English Institute of Sport. It is the largest multi-sport centre in the UK with 2 sports halls, as well as halls for table tennis, netball, basketball and an athletics arena! The world class facilities are home to many local and national sporting clubs, and accessibility is essential to provide this service for everyone. Ability Lifts were contacted by Castle Building Services (South Yorkshire) Limited to see if they could offer a solution for disabled access between the first floor, and upper level of the building. After a site survey, they recommended their hydraulic Optimum 320 Open style platform lift, which was chosen as the ideal solution, as it’s compact dimensions enabled the lift to fit in a footprint of just 1400mm x 1600mm. The lift was supplied with a black carriage and contrasting silver guides. The chequer plate flooring of the carriage includes an integral ramp in order to maximise space. The main challenge for the Ability Lifts installer was that the upper landing threshold was constructed of a composite concrete floor with a steel beam support. In order to securely install the lift a special threshold trim plate was utilised that allowed the fixings to be positioned into the steel support. A lifting capacity of 500Kg matched with a platform size of 900mm x 1400mm ensures even the heaviest electric powered wheelchairs can make use of the lift. The lower call button is mounted on the adjacent wall and the upper level call button is attached to the lift itself to maximise ease of use. With a full 12 month guarantee, the lift will offer access for users of the sport centre long into the future. Please contact the Ability Lifts team on 0845 006 8803 or email sales@abilitylifts.co.uk for further information on the Optimum 320 and the other products in the Optimum range of lifts. developer-update.co.uk

Style your living space with the top interior trends this autumn As the sunny shades of summer transition to earthy autumnal tones, it’s time to switch the bright patterned cushions for warm knitted blankets and cosy throws. The changing of the seasons brings with it the chance to refresh your home interior, and this autumn you can dial-up the drama with dark colours and luxurious textures or create stunning mindful spaces with a botanical influence. Autumn is the perfect season to dedicate time to the home improvement projects you’ve been planning but haven’t had the chance to get round to throughout the busy summer months. Anglian Home Improvements has come up with three top tips for style-conscious homeowners looking to update their home for the new season ahead.

GET RICH WITH COLOUR The days will be getting shorter and nights will start drawing in, so there has been no better time to cosy up your home with warm autumnal shades. While it is true that a neutral colour schemes provide a blank canvas, there is a lot to be said for introducing colour. Rich hues such as forest greens, intimate navy blues and luxurious greys look refined and elegant and continue to prove a popular choice for autumn.
wonder it is proving such a hit with homeowners. For those keen to continue to enjoy the benefits of the outdoors this autumn, keep your doors and windows open as much as possible, and introduce flowers and plants to provide a calmer and restorative environment. You can find top tips from Kew-trained botanist, broadcaster and author James Wong on biophilia at www.anglianhome.co.uk/goodtobehome.
ACCESSORISE WITH TEXTURE If you aren’t feeling daring enough to paint an entire room, try painting a feature in the room such as an alcove or a wall of shelves. You could even incorporate a bold piece of furniture into the design of a room – such as a deep red sofa or armchair – to add colour and personality to your living space.
NATURE-INSPIRED STYLING From working long hours to being increasingly absorbed by technology, the time we spend outdoors is becoming limited and we are missing out on the psychological and physiological benefits of our natural surroundings. Defined as an innate connection between living things and nature, ‘biophilia’ not only connects us to the outside world – it is also believed to have a positive impact on health and wellbeing. It is therefore no surprise that interior trends are taking the lead from the outside world and no
Accessorising with soft furnishings and textiles can complete the overall ‘look’ of a room, and autumn is the perfect time to introduce texture. Adding key pieces such as statement cushions or a plush rug will go a long way, but combining multiple textural elements such as macramé and rattan or wood and fake fur will bring the space to life. With texture sometimes less is more, so have fun experimenting but be sure not to overload the space with too many conflicting elements. Aim for a mix of rough, smooth, hard and soft materials and trial textures together before deciding what works best for your autumnal interior. Impervia® Luxury Rigid Plank Waterproof Flooring The Solid Wood Flooring Company are proud to announce our Impervia® range of waterproof luxury vinyl flooring has been shortlisted at the Tomorrow’s Contract Floors Awards 2020. The awards celebrate the most innovative products and services in the industry, so to be shortlisted is a huge honour. Public voting opens in January, all the details to vote can be found by visiting our social channels. As a specialist in Luxury Rigid Plank Waterproof Flooring, this is a defining moment that has led to such high demand we have now launched Impervia® as its own stand-alone brand and website. You can visit the site at www.impervia.co.uk to view the range and see the quality for yourself, just in time for Christmas. The award nomination and website launch are fantastic developments in the Impervia® story and makes the range a perfect choice for any design project you may have in mind for the New Year, be it domestic or commercial. The biggest factor for the success of the range is that it has been deemed 75% quieter than the average wood flooring, and crucially, has also been rated low slip risk. So when considering the health and safety credentials of your project you can rest assured that with our PTV measurement of 69 (in dry conditions) and 40 (in wet) we are out performing the score of 36, which is considered low slip risk. In high traffic areas that are also exposed to moisture, such as bathrooms, require a flooring that is durable enough to developer-update.co.uk
withstand that environment. This is all part of the solution that The Solid Wood Flooring Company offer with a new range and website engineered with you in mind.
Why Choose our SPC Rigid Flooring: Other practical benefits of our range include a backing that is made of IXPE which is a foam type plastic that makes it totally waterproof. Others would use a cork or cork composite backing which over time will deteriorate. We have the best prices on the market for comparable quality, as well as the latest push fit technology and natural textured surface. The stone composite also has fibreglass to create a stable rigid plank, and because of the width and lengths, it looks more natural unlike narrower shorter pieces which is commonly found in vinyl flooring. Because the flooring is also available in a choice of colours and textures, this gives you the flexibility and control to select the right option for you.
31 Benefits of our Impervia® Floooring • Commercial grade finish • 5mm thick • Quick installation • Valinge 5Gi push fit system for easy installation • Excellent durability with a 15 year guarantee • Warm feeling underfoot and sound deadening qualities • No VOC • High Density • High indentation resistance because of the high density of the composite rigid layer • Fire Resistant
• Scratch Resistant • Non-Porous and stain resistant • Waterproof • Can be installed in unfriendly environmental conditions unlike real wood flooring • Backing has acoustic and absorption qualities • Can be fitted without the need for any underlay • Reduced installation time and costs • Rigid construction due to the stone fibreglass composite middle layer.
When fitted our SPC flooring looks like the real thing and yet its warmer and softer underfoot, perfect for keeping you warm on those winter evenings.
Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

The smart toilet that extracts odour and provides safety features Smart toilets are here, and they’re increasing in popularity. This month, Easy Bathrooms launched its own smart toilet, on the back of the demand the firm experienced for connected products. In a statement, they said: “In recent years, people have become more interested in looking after their bathrooms and are subsequently investing more time, money and care into this room of the home. “Homeowners are renovating their bathrooms more regularly than ever before, meaning that they are looking for the latest
technologies to install too. Our Darwin toilet helps to meet this demand.” The smart toilet has already begun selling well, particularly in West Yorkshire, where a demonstration product is available in the Huddersfield store.
The key features of the Darwin toilet include: Presets and controls The toilet is controlled by a removable, wall-hung
remote control and a dial on the side of the unit. Users are able to set two presets to personalise the experience each time. Front and rear cleaning bidet The bidet nozzle is entirely customisable, allowing the user to adjust the position of the spray and the flow/ temperature of the water. It offers a rear wash, as well as a female wash option. The spray is oscillating and pulsating to provide a massaging experience.
Drying experience The user is also able to indicate whether an air dry is required, eliminating the use of toilet paper entirely. The warm air is adjustable, with five temperatures available. Odour extraction Sensing when the seat is occupied, the toilet extracts any odours, leaving a fresh-smelling room for the next user. Effortless cleaning The toilet itself is rimless, meaning that bacteria cannot build up underneath the rim. Instead of flush water entering the bowl from under the rim, it sprays from the rear of the toilet with a vortex power flush. The seat is also antibacterial, providing peace of mind that the toilet will be almost germ-free. The seat is also soft-closing. The flush also works from a sensor. Night light With adjustable night lights, the toilet increases user safety on an evening, without the need to turn on bright lights which may wake others. Panasonic are Finalists in the National ACR & Heat Pumps Awards 2020 Panasonic is pleased to announce they are finalists in two categories in the forthcoming and highly anticipated National ACR & Heat Pump Awards. The two categories Panasonic has been shortlisted for are; Heat Pump product with the highly energy efficient Panasonic Aquarea T-Cap, in addition to the ACR Product of the year with the innovative Panasonic GHP VRF GF3 series. The winners will be announced at a gala dinner in Manchester on 23rd January 2020 at the prestigious Midland Hotel. The awards will be hosted by the face of Soccer Saturday, Jeff Stelling, and promises to be a fantastic ceremony that celebrates stand out achievements within the HVAC industry. Tony Nielsen, UK Marketing Manager of Panasonic commented “We are delighted to be finalists in two categories in the National ACR & Heat Pump Awards for both Heat Pump Product and ACR Product. These awards are highly regarded within the industry that highlight the standards that must be met to create innovative and energy efficient solutions, this is a priority within Panasonic and becoming finalists confirms our dedication and performance within the industry.”
Panasonic GHP VRF Units Panasonic’s new generation of Gas-powered Heat Pumps deliver simultaneous heating or cooling and domestic hot water (DHW) for commercial applications, for example hotels and apartments where constant high-volume supplies are crucial. The GHP GF3 series provides a host of attractive benefits which improve energy efficiency and seasonal performance, while contributing to significant energy savings for commercial buildings and facilities. The Panasonic GHP GF3 units boast a heat exchanger that provides DHW in parallel to heating or cooling, by effectively capturing the waste heat generated by the engine during operation. This powerful heat exchanger means developer-update.co.uk
that the GF3 series can provide an impressive heating capacity of 100% and DHW at temperatures as low as -21°C without requiring a defrost process, optimising the system’s winter performance.
Panasonic Aquarea Air to Water T-Cap Aimed at residential installations, the Panasonic Aquarea T-Cap is a single outdoor heat pump unit, generating the perfect temperature, producing hot water, in an easy, cost effective and environmentally friendly way, by transferring heat instead of generating it. It is among the technologies listed on the International Energy Agency (IEA), with the goal of reducing CO2 emissions to half the levels emitted in 2005, by the year 2020. These units have an extremely high efficiency, making it one of the most economical systems on the market. Up to 80% of the energy generated by the heat pump comes from the outside air, with electricity making up the remaining 20%, so not only is this an extremely cost-effective alternative, but it is also environmentally friendly. An air source heat pump is a great option to increase energy efficiency and can reduce overall energy bills by up to 60% (when compared to fossil fuel alternatives). The Aquarea T-Cap unit captures ambient air from temperatures as low as -28°C, continuously heating the property, ensuring maximum comfort, and providing domestic hot water. Furthermore, the range is also far cleaner, safer, cheaper and more environmentally friendly than competing alternatives, which use mains gas, oil, LPG and other electrical systems. Tony Nielsen further added “Panasonic products focus consistently on innovation, reliability, ecological respect and connectivity.” For more information on the above please do get in touch with our team via email, uk-aircon@eu.panasonic.com or telephone 01344 853182.

Panasonic UK Announces New Distributor for Cold Chain Solutions with Hawco Panasonic UK, has today announced a new UK distributor for their Cold Chain CO2 Condensing Units, specialist and experienced refrigeration company ‘Hawco’ who will now stock its full range of natural CO2 condensing refrigeration units for the UK market. The Panasonic range has been specifically developed for small to medium capacity applications within the retail and food service sectors and is particularly suited for installations in small supermarkets, convenience stores and garage forecourt retail operations. The CO2 Cold Chain units work well for both refrigerated and freezer showcases, as well as walk-in freezers and cold rooms. An ideal solution suited to provide refrigeration within the restaurant and hotel sectors. Martin Butler, Commercial Director of Hawco commented “We were conscious that from 2022, all new condensing units used for refrigeration will need to be installed using a refrigerant with a global warming potential (GWP) of 150 or less. In practice, only a handful of refrigerants meet this criterion, with R744 (CO2) being the most appealing for most commercial cold room applications. Given this, we have been looking for a commercial refrigeration solution that meets these new requirements to offer our customers a futureproof offering. The Panasonic Cold Chain CO2 Condensing unit range uses a natural refrigerant with a GWP (Global Warming Potential) equal to 1 as opposed to the current refrigerant typically used such as R404A having a GWP equal to 3,922.” Hawco was first established 45 years ago and have built an enviable reputation across the UK for their knowledge and expertise in the refrigeration sector. The team offer design and in-depth product knowledge, helping customers to improve efficiency, minimise energy consumption and move to lower GWP refrigerants. Alfredos Armaos, UK Country Manager added, “We welcome Hawco on board as a UK distributor of our Cold Chain CO2 Condensing Units. This will help us and our customers across the UK embrace the changing world of refrigeration and help to minimise
future risk to businesses, CO2 seems to be the best way to go for refrigeration needs.”
programmed application settings and can be integrated with market leading controllers.”
The Panasonic range of CO2 condensing units has been in development for more than 10 years – and over 10,000 units have been installed worldwide. Each unit features a highly efficient two-stage rotary compressor, unique to the Panasonic units (covered by a five-year warranty). The units are compact in size, light weight and have low noise levels, making this solution ideal for small supermarkets, convenience stores and petrol stations.
By combining reliability and efficiency, with the natural refrigerant CO2, the range removes any risk of future costs associated with the F-Gas refrigerant phase down whilst also minimising energy use and operating costs.
All models are suitable for medium and low temperature applications. This makes them ideal for up to 200m3 as well as systems which combine multiple retail display cases. A heat recovery function can also be applied to provide heating using the waste heat from the system to produce free hot water. Alfredos Armaos further added, “The Panasonic CO2 condensing units are designed for fast and easy commissioning with extended pipe runs between 25 and 100 metres. The units also feature four pre-
With changes to the F-Gas regulations coming into force alongside reducing carbon emissions and energy costs becoming key drivers for change in refrigeration systems, both specifiers and end users are recognising the need to consider CO2 as a refrigerant. The units are practical, straightforward to install and easy to commission, with complete design support available through the distributor network. Hawco will be inviting contractors to attend a training session at Panasonic HQ in Bracknell on Thursday 5th December 2019 with further training sessions scheduled for 2020. For more information, please visit www.aircon.panasonic.eu or www.hawco.co.uk/co2.
