Emma Neaves

30
Married: No, still looking Cruise ships sailed on: 9 Favourite cruise line: Royal Caribbean and Celebrity Cruises Hobbies: Going out with friends and family. Enjoying lots of holidays whenever I can! Hi, my name is Emma and I’ve worked in the travel industry for 14 years now. Previously I have always worked in high street stores but am now venturing into a different area of the business with Jetline. I used to work for Thompsons as a Sales Manager and would visit the different shops and concentrate on turning the underperforming ones around. I am very much a people person and have always enjoyed working with the public – even when I am getting moaned at, which obviously wasn’t very often as I was so good at my job!
Name: Elizabeth Galloway Position: Graphic Designer Age: 28 (cough) Married: Not yet Kids: 2 cats, 2 chinchillas Cruise ships sailed on: None yet but I hope to Favourite cruise line: They all look good Hobbies: Holidays, cinema, reading Hello, My name is Elizabeth or Beth for short and I have been working for Jetline Cruise full-time for a month but have been designing Cruise Ahoy on a freelance basis for a couple of years. I am lucky enough to be allowed to work from my office at home using my apple mac and design software to produce the magazine you see before you as well as leaflets, stationery and adverts. Each month I lay all the pages, choose the photos and produce high resolution pdfs for the printers and low resolution pdfs for the website, so if you can’t wait for Cruise Ahoy to hit your doormat and you want to be among the first to see the special deals on offer then visit www.jetlinecruise.com

I am really looking forward to the change that working for Jetline has offered me and the opportunity to work in a specific area of the travel business. Cruising is a massively popular sector of the travel industry and I particularly like how it offers something for all age groups and all types of people. I personally enjoy cruising as it allows you to wake up somewhere different every day and you are extremely well looked after on board the ship. Here at Jetline I will be working as the new call centre manager. So far I have found everyone in the company to be very well coming and supportive. I am extremely excited about heading up this new division of the sales team and am looking forward to working alongside a diverse and talented team that will be only too happy to find that perfect cruise for you. I look forward to speaking to you very soon! Emma
where you can view Cruise Ahoy online in its pdf format. If you don’t have a PC then don’t worry as your local library should have one you can use. I have been a designer for 11 years and have worked for a newspaper, various holiday companies and for a gardening magazine once too. I have known Ian Gilder - Managing Director for Jetline Cruise, and Martin Tanner (Product and Marketing Manager) and Paul Brown (web designer) for several years as I have worked with them before at a different company. They are all a pleasure to work with as they are so friendly and down to earth. So far Ian is the best boss I have had as no-one else has ever let me work from home in my pyjamas before! I really enjoy designing Cruise Ahoy as its great to see lots of photos of exotic destinations and amazing facilities that cruise ships have onboard. I have not yet been on a cruise but would one day love to as there is so much that would keep me entertained such as surf machines, rock climbing, shops, cinema and tasty food! Thanks for reading! Azura Float Out Ceremony P&O Cruises’ latest addition to the fleet Azura was floated out with a special ceremony in preparation for the launch next April. The 3,100 passenger superliner is set to be named in Southampton in April 2010 and then depart on her maiden voyage, a classic 16 night central Mediterranean cruise featuring calls in Venice and Dubrovnik. The sophisticated and stylish new ship is being built at Fincantieri Monfalcone shipyard near Trieste and will include a host of exciting and unique experiences. Azura will feature an Indian fine dining restaurant, Sindhu, the creation of celebrated Michelin starred Chef Atul Kochhar. Sindhu means meeting point, amalgamation or fusion, and the menu will offer a fusion of fine British and Indian cuisine. Dishes such as pan-fried lobster tail in coconut milk and tamarind sauce will tempt passengers through the doors of this – just one of 11 – dining venues on board. The ship will also have an open-air cinema-at-sea, an open air spa terrace and single cabins. TV wine expert Olly Smith has been enlisted to help create a new wine bar and restaurant concept – The Glass House. A must for wine lovers, The Glass House menu will feature different wines recommended with each course, all served by the glass and expertly matched by Olly. Amanda Dowds, wife of Azura’s Captain, Keith Dowds acted as ‘godmother’ for a symbolic ceremony in which a newly-minted two pound coin and a new euro are welded at the foot of the ship’s mast for good luck. Azura was then blessed by a priest as a bottle of Italian Prosecco smashed against the hull. P&O Cruises managing director Nigel Esdale, said: “The float out ceremony is a significant event in the build of a new ship. Azura is designed with traditional cruise values of service and quality combined with the flexibility and choice that today’s contemporary customer expects and the high level of early bookings proves this demand.”
UK Cruise Lines claim record early bookings Many UK cruise lines have reported record early bookings for 2010 and 2011 departures. P&O Cruises and Cunard Line have seen an incredible rate of reservations on July 1 for 2011 round the World cruises, some 47% ahead of last year with 2,044 people booking against 1,385 made this time last year. Cunard president and managing director Carol Marlow, said: “We are delighted to see this great response to the Cunard world voyage programme. We were the first to offer a world cruise back in 1922, and guests still seek out that civilised and authentic Cunard experience. Queen Elizabeth, whose keel was laid in Italy this week, will take her maiden word voyage in 2011.” P&O Cruises managing director Nigel Esdale said: “We hope that the figures for both companies are indicative of shoots of growth for the travel industry as a whole, and show the resilience of the cruise sector. The appetite to take that ‘once in a lifetime’ voyage is far from in decline, and for many experienced cruisers a world voyage is becoming a regular winter holiday experience. “The success of this launch day suggests that cruising is more immune to the current economic climate and that holidays are still a priority. P&O Cruises is the world voyage expert and has used this wealth of experience to create this, the largest and most varied programme for 2011. “With four ships sailing roundtrip from Southampton visiting a total of 89 ports in 46 countries we are able to offer more choice, more destinations and more holiday options than ever before.”

Keel laying for new Cunard Queen Elizabeth ship The formal keel laying ceremony for Cunard Line’s new ship Queen Elizabeth has taken place in Italy at the Monfalcone shipyard of Fincantieri ship builders near Trieste. The event involves the placement in the dry dock of the first section of the ship’s hull. This section is made up of six pre-manufactured blocks weighing 364 tons and is fitted with 104 tons of pipes, cables, insulation and other equipment. Prior to Queen Elizabeth taking to the water for the first time there will be more than 50 sections to be fitted. The float out is set for December before her delivery to Cunard.
Queen Elizabeth is successor to QE2 and will honour the great liner with many artworks and memorabilia to be exhibited on board, along with its very own ‘Yacht Club’. Queen Elizabeth will be the second largest Cunard ship ever built and will enter service in October 2010, joining sister vessel Queen Victoria and the line’s flagship Queen Mary 2. Queen Elizabeth will depart on its maiden voyage on October 12, 2010 – a cruise which sold out in a record-breaking 29 minutes 14 seconds in April. The 13-night itinerary from Southampton calls at Vigo, Lisbon, Cadiz, Las Palmas, Santa Cruz de Tenerife (overnight call) and Funchal.
Thomson Cruises add Costa ship to fleet Thomson Cruises has charted the 1,500 passenger Costa Europa from Costa Cruises in a ten year deal, with the option for Thomson Cruises to purchase the ship. The addition will bring Thomson Cruises fleet back up to 4 vessels for summer 2010. The 54,000 ton ship will become Thomson’s largest vessel and will be renamed Thomson Dream. The ship was originally built in 1986 and has been in service with Costa Cruises since 2002 and was previously operated for Holland America Line. Thomson Dream will offer fly-cruises from Palma on three different seven-night itineraries, joining Thomson Destiny in operating from the Majorcan port. Destinations will include the ports of Rome and Florence as well as Barcelona and La Goulette in Tunisia, a new destination for Thomson Cruises.
Norwegian Epic takes to the water NCL’s newest and biggest ship Norwegian Epic has been floated out of its French shipyard STX Europe where it has been under construction since October 2007. The 153,000 ton vessel has now moved into the final building phase with work beginning on its interiors. The 4,200 passenger ship was accompanied by a fleet of six tugboats and taken a short distance down the Loire Estuary. Within about one and a half hours the ship was moored at the outfitting dock. Norwegian Epic is set to be delivered in late May 2010 and will take part in inaugural events before beginning Eastern and Western Caribbean sailings from its homeport of Miami. Norwegian Epic is changing the face of cruise line entertainment. In another industry first, Blue Man Group will perform in the ship’s 685-seat Epic Theater. Blue Man Group is best known for their wildly popular theatrical shows and concerts which combine music, comedy and multimedia theatrics to produce a totally unique form of entertainment.
To book call: 0800 923 1605
Offering the next generation of Freestyle Dining, Norwegian Epic will have 17 dining choices and 18 bars and lounges. The ship also boasts unique nightlife options with the first Ice Bar at sea and Spice H20 with non-stop entertainment day and night; an expansive Aqua Park with the only tube slide and largest bowl slide at sea -- The Epic Plunge; seven decks of Freestyle Family Fun with highlights including a 33-foot high, 64-foot wide extreme rock climbing wall and the first ever rappelling wall at sea; the most bowling lanes at sea with six in two venues; a mixed-use sports deck with the ability for guests to engage in eight different athletic activities; as well as three separate kids’ and teen activity areas and the first squash court at sea.
Although the Costa Europa will be leaving, Costa is continuing to expand its fleet of 14 ships currently in service. The Italian company’s fleet expansion program is in fact presently the biggest of its kind in the world with five new ships entering service between 2009 and 2012 representing a total investment of 2.4 billion Euros. The Costa Luminosa and Costa Pacifica were named together on June 5, 2009 in Genoa, Italy. In late January 2010, the Costa Deliziosa, sister ship to the Costa Luminosa, will be introduced. Two sister ships to the Costa Pacifica are scheduled to debut in 2011 and 2012.
NCL chief executive Kevin Sheehan said: “Watching Norwegian Epic make her first journey on the water was a very moving experience. “Norwegian Epic epitomises our continued commitment to innovation and represents the next generation of Freestyle Cruising, so we are thrilled to be celebrating her float out and looking forward to her delivery in less than a year.”

C R U IS E L I N E I N T E RV I E W
Interview with Wendy Lahmich Sales Manager for Holland America
1
You describe yourself as a premium cruise line can you define premium for us? The definition of “Premium” really is to combine high quality accommodation, amenities and service with a value for money experience; to offer those extra touches and innovative enrichment opportunities to guests that they won’t find on other cruise ships! The Holland America Line mission statement “Through excellence we create once-in-a-lifetime experiences, every time”, which further defines our “Premium” goals.
2
What makes you different to your immediate competitors? Holland America Line retains a European heritage and style, which stretches back to the company’s roots more than 135 years ago, and is ideal for British guests. Our fleet of 14 modern ships are “mid-size”, (accommodating from 793-2,106 passengers), with more space per guest than most other cruise lines. The ambience is country house hotel, with intimate lounges adorned with thousands of pounds worth of beautiful paintings, antiques and fresh flowers – yet also offering grand theatres, elegant dining rooms and all the modern comforts such as pools, state of the art spas and wrap-around promenade decks. We offer our guests lots of little extras – hot and cold hors d’oeuvres served at cocktail hour, white gloved stewards to lead you to your stateroom, complimentary in-cabin fruit baskets and twice-daily ice service, cloth fingertip towels in public restrooms and award-winning attentive service by staff trained at our own hotel school, to name just a few. Some of our unique enrichment features include an interactive Culinary Arts theatre – which is a “ready steady cook” style tv kitchen featuring cookery demonstrations and lectures by celebrated guest chefs. Other experiences include in-depth lectures on your destinations or even learning how to post your photos on the web, via complimentary digital workshops in the Explorations Café.
3
Can you please explain your Signature of Excellence? In 2005 Holland America launched a £220 million “Signature of Excellence” initiative fleet-wide – which is continually evolving fleet wide; and offers significant value and comfort added improvements to dining, accommodation, service and activities onboard all Holland America ships – again emphasising our “premium” status! On each ship, Holland America Line has added the innovative Culinary Arts Centres, the “Explorations Café”, which is a library, resource and internet centre powered by the New York Times, as well as new onboard enrichment opportunities and amenities, as shown above! Our four “S-class” ships are now undergoing transformations, to create new bar and entertainment areas, spa and “Lanai” staterooms and a new deck area, called The Retreat, with it’s own resort style pool. Another change is the choice of cuisine and dining venues. Cruise food has always been very good, but now our ships offer alternative “reservation-only” restaurants, “As you Wish” flexible dining times in the main dining room, as well as casual waiter-service dining alternatives for guests who do not wish to dress up on evenings at sea. In response to huge passenger demand for mini-suites and for private verandahs, our newer ships offer 85% sea-view accommodation, over 60% of these featuring a private balcony, as well as very spacious suites with their own concierge lounge and special amenities.
4
Holland America Line is known for destination rich itineraries can you please go into more detail? The choice of itineraries and destinations we offer mean that passengers can always come and experience something new with Holland America Line. We have a long list of very loyal past passengers who return year after year to HAL and perhaps try a different ship or destination. Winter 2009-10 offers 7-14-night Caribbean itineraries, most of which feature our own private Bahamian island, Half Moon Cay, as well as less visited, “deep” Caribbean ports; and our new Bermuda cruises from New York. We have six ships in Europe for summer 2010 including the new “Signature-class” Nieuw Amsterdam, cruising her inaugural season from Venice, and her sister ship the Eurodam, cruising ex-UK from Dover. There are more ships in Alaska than ever before, with a greater choice of “Glacier” itineraries, all of which reaffirm Holland America Line’s status as the leader in Alaska travel. One important element of a Holland America Line cruise is that we spend more time than most other cruise ships in port, including many overnights – enabling our guests to see more of their destinations. While volume markets are the Caribbean, Alaska and Europe, we offer new destinations that have huge appeal
6
to British guests, such as South America, the Far East and our Australia and New Zealand programmes, which enable travellers to see the highlights and contrasts of a huge region in 14 or 16 nights. Only on a Holland America Line ship can you for example sail through Cape Horn - at the tip of South America – and even Antarctica, enjoy the highlights of New Zealand’s spectacular Milford Sound or Chile’s beautiful fjord scenery. For those with more leisure time to spare, we offer five Grand Voyages for 2010 including the 114-night Grand World Voyage onboard our flagship, the Amsterdam.
5
Would you please explain a typical cruise customer of Holland America Line? Holland America Line has a very wide appeal, due to our huge choice of itineraries and destinations. Every discerning traveller who is looking for a quality holiday, which guarantees comfortable surroundings, fine dining and attentive, yet unobtrusive service – combined with spectacular destinations, will find their perfect holiday!
6
In 2010 you are doing some cruises from the UK. If successful do you think you will do even more in 2011? Holland America Line has been visiting UK ports for some time, and in July this year we trialled our first ever series of ex-UK short break cruises, with huge success. Following this, in May and June 2010, we are offering three dedicated 8-12 night round trip Dover Baltic and Norwegian Fjords cruises onboard the MS Eurodam. The reception to these cruises is already great, and we are sure this will mean more Holland America Line ships and itineraries from UK ports in the future.
7
With everything that you have to offer do you feel Holland America is offering value for money? Our cruises offer great value, but are unique when you consider the experiences that are included in that price. As well as many other prestigious accolades, Holland America Line has just been awarded “Best Value in Cruising” for the 17th consecutive year by the World Ocean & Cruise Liner Society, which proves the point!

GRAND CAYMAN
CURACAO Sandwiched in between Bonaire and Aruba – volcanic Curacao is situated in the far South of the Caribbean just 40 miles off the coast of Venezuela. The capital Willemstad is a cosy Dutch haven with its neat row houses. The most famous being the Puna and Otrabunda which are 17th and 18th century Dutch colonial buildings. Visit the Hato Caves formed from coral reefs with stalagmites and stalactites and the freshwater waterfall. Also visit the Shete Boka National Park to marvel at Boka Tabla – a wide limestone tidal cavern. Knip Beach is a UNESCO designated beach with its natural white sands surrounded by volcanic hills. The Ostrich Farm is the largest outside of Africa where you can feed the birds and watch the Ostrich dance. Best souvenir buys are Delft pottery and of course the Sapphire Blue Liqueur – Curacao. Curacao
This island remains part of the British Commonwealth and it is famed for its Scuba diving and white sands; in particular 7 mile beach close to Georgetown the capital. It is also one of the few nesting grounds of the logger head turtle. One of the best things to do is snorkelling with the Sting Rays – you will not be disappointed. Try visiting Hell - a village in the far corner of the island where you will find a turtle farm. Ships generally anchor off shore here and the island is reached by tender. The town is pleasant enough to walk around and it does not immediately appear to be purpose built to relieve you of your cruise dollars!
GRENADA Known as the Spice island where the aromas of Nutmeg, cinnamon and Cocoa hang in the air. This volcanic island with tropical rainforests and waterfalls lies at the southern end of the Windward Island chain. Most ships dock at the quayside, the bigger ones moor offshore and a tender takes you to the bay on the other side of the headland in St George’s - the capital. This bay is closer to Grand Anse beach (a two mile stretch of white sand) which can be reached by water taxi for just $6. The sunbeds and umbrellas can be quite expensive so be prepared to haggle – if you get 2 beds and an umbrella for $15 you are doing well!! Whilst here visit the Grand Etang cobalt blue lake and take a refreshing dip in the Royal Mt Carmel waterfall or perhaps go river tubing on the Balthazar River. There is also the unique underwater sculpture park at Molinere Point for keen snorkelers.
JAMAICA DOMINICA Dominica was discovered by Christopher Columbus in 1493 and was named after the day he discovered it – Sunday ! This mountainous lush tropical island belonging to the Leeward Island group is approximately 30 miles long by 15 miles wide. The capital Roseau lies in the South Western corner and is very picturesque at the foot of green hills and mountains. Ships usually moor at the quayside and you are right in the heart of the town. The roads here are extremely narrow and steep – but its worth the 1 hour journey to Ti Tou gorge where there is a refreshing waterfall amidst the rain forest. On the way back check out the Sulphur Springs and take a photo stop at the Botanical gardens overlooking Roseau and the bay. Not great for beaches. The sail away from Dominica is beautiful – one of the best in the Caribbean.

is more of a country rather than an island and you cannot really do it justice on a day trip. On most itineraries – cruise ships call in at Ocho Rios towards the eastern end of the North Coast. Here cruise ships will either moor directly at the quay side in the town centre or further out and a 5 minute taxi ride away. Ocho Rios is a bit of a cruise tourist trap for shops etc and the unauthorised street sellers can be pests. In the centre of the North Coast is Montego Bay which is a lesser frequented port of call and even less of a desirable place to wander around. There are some great attractions on Jamaica – the biggest one being Dunns River Falls made famous by the James Bond film Dr No. Here you have the refreshing opportunity to walk up the falls – the guides ask you to hold hands as it can be quite slippery. Gentle bamboo rafting on the Martha Brae river made famous by Errol Flynn is exceedingly tranquil and worth doing.
Another great trip is horse riding through the sugar cane plantations, on to the beach then swimming on your horse in the sea - absolutely marvellous. Perhaps visit the Blue Mountains and the coffee plantations for a unique souvenir or gift.
KEY WEST At the Southern end of the Florida Keys just 90 miles off the coast of Cuba. This holiday paradise is the perfect mix of the Caribbean meets Cape Cod. Wonderful weather, white sand beaches, excellent nightlife, tropical plants and attractive upmarket houses. This is clean, tidy, organised and fun. The marina with its wooden boardwalk, rustic bars and pelicans is excellent and leads to Duval Street which is the heart of Key West. Fort Zachary Beach and conservation area is the ideal place for a dip. The island is flat and hiring a mountain bike is a great way to get around or alternatively take the trolley bus tour. You must visit Sloppy Joes for a drink – the old hangout of Ernest Hemingway. The ships moor at the cruise pier in front of the upmarket marina condos and a short walk leads you to the western end of Duval Street and the marina.

here is an amazing selection of cruises to South America and with an area so large and so much to see it could be difficult to make a decision of which to cruise to embark on. Most South America cruises sail from November to May and climates can change quickly so make sure you pack lots of layers to adapt. Cruising South America in the North will take in Peru, Rio de Janeiro’s buzzing port and villages lining the Amazon. Cruises in the South will generally visit the tango capital Buenos Aires, Argentina as well as Patagonia’s remote fjords and Ushuaia snow-peaked mountains Argentina’s capital Buenos Aires is an essential port of call to include. The capital city of Argentina is so strongly influenced by European culture it’s known as the ‘Paris of South America’. More than just the main Argentina cruise port; Buenos Aires is also a stylish, sophisticated city whose broad tree-lined boulevards and elegant mansions are reminiscent of Paris at its most romantic. Buenos Aires is full of sightseeing opportunities, from the Evita museum at the Plaza de Mayo to the fashionable Recoleta Quarter with its exclusive shops and restaurants. A top tip would be to take a day trip to visit one of the Wonders of the World – the spectacular Iguazu Falls. Rio de Janeiro in Brazil is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. The 120ft Christ the Redeemer stature makes up part of its background and is a sight you will never forget. Famous for its colourful carnival and its

fabulous beaches, as well as the dramatic entry to its cruise port, Rio de Janeiro in the south-eastern corner of Brazil has much more to offer than sun and sand. We recommend taking the aerial tramway to the Sugarloaf Mountains; here you will experience amazing panoramic views of the city, its beaches and Guanabara Bay. The Chilean Fjords are a truly breathtaking part of the country set within the southern west portion of Chile. An amazing sight will behold you when you sail from Puerto Montt into waters framed with snow-capped volcanoes, deep forests and hot springs. Make sure you look out for the wide variety of local wildlife such as the soaring Andean condor, orcas, seals and penguins. This enormous continent is truly unique and South America Cruises will allow you to hear the song of exotic birds, to stand in remote wildernesses and admire landscapes you can only imagine. There are rivers and rainforests, mountains and lakes, coasts and cliffs, even snow capped peaks and awe inspiring fjords. Explore Patagonia’s glaciers and over the peaks of the Andes things start to hot up – from Argentina’s sultry tango moves to the Amazon’s steamy rainforests For those looking for a cruise offering something a little different, then how about a Panama Canal Cruise? The Panama Canal was completed in 1914 and its job was to connect the Pacific’s buzzing cities of Mexico and America to the Atlantic via a narrow stretch of engineering genius. Since its completion the Panama Canal has been called
Cunard Queen Victoria in the Panama Canal
Christ the Redeemer Statue in Rio de Janeiro “the big ditch”, “the bridge between two continents” and “the greatest shortcut in the world”. This 51 mile marvel of engineering waterway knocked nearly 8,000 miles off the distance between New York and San Francisco and altered the industrialized world. Nowadays, Panama Canal Cruises are an unforgettable experience as your cruise ship is guided through locks and raised 26 metres to meet Gatun Lake. A remarkable trip of adventure and discovery, Panama Canal cruises offer everything from the breathtaking sights and sounds of the jungle, to the atmosphere and architecture of bygone colonial times in Old Panama. With the ship just inches from the sides of the canal you can look out and admire the wild jungles beyond and watch the tropical birds going about their business. The wildlife in the region is as unique and inspiring as the Canal itself. The diversity of the tropical rainforest at La Selva Biological Station is incredible and at Barbados’ Harrison Cave there are world-famous stalactites and stalagmites. There is plenty to do on Panama Canal cruises from relaxing on white-sand beaches to snorkeling and shopping. For the more adventurous there are a whole host of shore excursions which will make your holiday an even richer experience, from an exhilarating ride through the bush on an off-road adventure or take a visit to the Gatun Lock Visitor Centre and learn of the amazing engineering feats that took place to create the canal.

private poolside cabanas and spa staterooms provide much appeal. Art aficionados will appreciate the ship’s museum-quality pieces found throughout the ship.

As the largest ship in Holland America’s fleet, the Eurodam provides a plethora of onboard options for passengers. Along with new features such as private cabanas, the Retreat private oasis, and spa staterooms, the ship also houses favourites from the past such as the Culinary Arts Center and the Digital Workshop. The first of the line’s Signature Class of vessels, Eurodam launched July 2008. When you board Eurodam, you notice the traditional touches Holland America is famous for...chimes to announce meals; attentive, courteous service by the Filipino and Indonesian crew; and well known places including the Crow’s Nest, Explorer’s Lounge, and Ocean Bar. You will see beautifully arranged flowers on display, priceless artwork and antiques, and a full wrap-around teak promenade deck with padded deck chairs. The ship is truly elegant with lots of blues, browns, reds, and gold that surrounds the extensive use of crystal, marble, inlaid woods, and brass. Unlike most new ships the look is both sophisticated and modern and clearly the designers were going for the “muted” look. Who Should Go Once known as a cruise line catering primarily to traditionalists, Holland America now expands its appeal to a broader demographic with the launch of the Eurodam. While the ship still retains a good deal of tradition, Eurodam adds expanded children’s programming and facilities with plenty of options for the younger set. For the cruise line’s mature, upscale audience—often returning Holland America customers— the ship’s classic, refined setting, and amenities such as

Where Eurodam cruises to In the summer months, Eurodam cruises mainly from Copenhagen on 7- to 14-day cruises to the Baltic, Norway, and Britain and Channel ports. A few sampler cruises run just 2-4 days, and Dover is an occasional port of embarkation. Then in late summer, she makes a long trans-Atlantic voyage via the top of Scotland, Iceland, Greenland and Eastern Canada to then undertake autumn foliage cruises from New York to New England and the St. Lawrence Valley. Then she repositions to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, to offer 7-day Eastern and Southern Caribbean loops until early April 2010 when she recrosses the Atlantic to the Mediterranean for several 10- and 20-day cruises as far east as Turkey. By May, she has returned to Northern Europe with cruises based at Dover, Amsterdam. Copenhagen and Stockholm. In August 2010, she sets out on a westward northern arc across the Atlantic to New York for a short series of autumn cruises between New York and Quebec City before heading to her winter base at Fort Lauderdale. Dining Canaletto Restaurant: The evening-only Canaletto, housed in a corner of the Lido, is new to Holland America. The Italian restaurant, named after the famed Venetian artist, features a first course of Italian-styled antipasti and a set menu of pasta dishes and desserts. The no-fee Canaletto features waiter service and decoratively arranged tables. Tamarind Restaurant and Silk Den Lounge: Tamarind, located at the top of the ship features pan-Asian cuisine in a serene setting that feels oceans away from a
traditional cruise ship restaurant with panoramic views of the ocean and Lido Pool area. It’s open daily for lunch and dinner, and the menu changes for each meal Silk Den, a soothing bar adjacent to Tamarind serves delicious Sakétinis. Rembrandt Dining Room: two-level dining features a cozy atmosphere, impeccable service and an extensive wine list. Five-course menus include continental cuisine, vegetarian and low-carb options. Pinnacle Grill: This intimate up-charge reservations-only venue offers an elegant, sophisticated dining experience. More Dining Options: Late afternoon snacks including pizza or visit the ice cream bar for a chocolate sundae. Choose from an extensive 24-hour room service menu. Explorations Café, powered by The New York Times: a comfortable, coffee house environment where you can browse through an extensive library, surf the Internet and check email or simply read the morning paper. Staterooms There are six types of staterooms: standard inside, standard ocean view, deluxe veranda outside, superior veranda suites, deluxe veranda suites, and two penthouse veranda suites. Eighty-five percent of all staterooms have an ocean view and 80% of outside staterooms and suites offer a private veranda with attractive wicker-look furnishings.

Surrounded by three hot tubs, each of varying temperature, this is a place where the whole family can spend the entire day. The Sea View Pool is adults only and tends to offer a quieter atmosphere. Surrounded by extensive deck chair seating as well as tables for outdoor eating, this pool also offers a spacious
adults-only hot tub. The Hydro Pool is a private pool set at the entrance to the spa. Access to this pool is limited and a set number of weekly admissions are offered for a fee. And, exclusively for teens, The Loft hosts a video editing facility, disco and trivia contests. Eurodam also offers babysitting services. Celebrity Equinox Launch T
he Celebrity Equinox was launched and named in Southampton on 29th July. Here are some snapshots which define this Solstice Class of ship; giving you an insight of what makes it different to others. The overall impression of this ship is Modern with a seventies twist and it is certainly not for traditionalists. This ship is big at 122,000 tonnes and is the second of the Solstice Class. We have now been informed that there are 5 in total, with the 3rd ship (Eclipse) being launched and sailing from Southampton for Summer 2010. Walking around this ship is almost like a maze - one bit leads you to another which you did not expect to

be there. There are 2 or 3 spacious central areas in the middle of the ship which are 3 decks high and decorated with dramatic sheer white drapes. The main shopping area is particularly impressive with some amazing window displays and probably the best range of shops we have seen. The main atrium has a real tree suspended 6 decks up overlooked by the library and the interesting Team Earth conservation showcase area. The main restaurant (Silhouette) is cool white and glass styled on 30’s Hollywood. There are a further 3 FREE restaurants: Oceanview main buffet, Aqua Spa cafe and Mast Grill (poolside). It is staggering the number of bars

(13 in total) and Pay For restaurants (4 in total) that have been packed on to this ship. These ships are also known as “The ones with the lawn”. However; on cold or breezy days we are not sure how much use you would get out of this area of the ship. The hot glass show was interesting to watch - but is something you would only do once. We found the staterooms to be comfortable with ensuite shower rooms that were spacious and well laid out. Our favourite parts of the ship were the cosy Ensemble Lounge and adjacent Michaels Club. We also liked the main pool area with its water feature, shading canopies, quirky seating and even hammocks!

Due to the size of the Queen Mary 2 & her classic red, black and white colours - You can’t help but have utter satisfaction and smugness sailing around the Caribbean. When moored next to other ships the promenade deck of the Queen Mary 2 towers above them all. A cruise on board the Queen Mary 2 can be as formal or as casual as you like. With so many dining options the choice is yours. The great thing about Cunard and the Queen Mary 2 is that the service, quality and choice of food seem to be better compared to other ships. If you like a real home away from home then this ship is the one for you with tea on tap 24 hours a day, great curries & excellent roasts with all the trimmings. We are particularly impressed with the quality and range of food served in each of the four Kings Court restaurants with food available 24 hours a day. You must also try out the Al Fresco Boardwalk café on the top deck for great burgers, hot dogs and salads. 5-star Caribbean Cruises from £799pp
Holland America Line is one of the best kept secrets of the cruising world in the UK. We consider Holland America to be one of the best of what we call the 5* cruising brands. Their modern fleet of cruise ships are spacious, have less passengers onboard relative to their size, are tastefully decorated and attractively furnished. Having travelled on the Westerdam and the Eurodam we were impressed with the layout, style and use of teak decking around the pool areas. These ships have two pool areas – one at the back for incredible sailaway vistas and another Lido style area in the middle with a retractable glass roof for year round sunbathing and fun. Holland America Line ships have some of the best spas at sea with a wonderful hydro therapy pool and thermal relaxation lounge. There is also a theatre, casino, numerous bars, Crows Nest nightclub, Retreat cabana area, Explorations Café, kids clubs and more.

Also standard Balcony staterooms have bathtubs!!! It’s all change for next year at NCL Freestyle Cruising when they will position their ships in different locations to this year. Next year Norwegian Sun will be based in Dover cruising Scandinavia and Russia on 12 night sailings.
This is one of our favourite cruise itineraries in the Mediterranean cruising from our favourite port. A short flight takes you to romantic and extremely picturesque Venice; which has one of the best city sailaways in the Med - as the ship glides past Saint Marks Square on its way out to sea. This mixed with the charm and varied beauty of the Greek islands makes a perfect Summer cruise. We always feel it is a shame to sail from Venice and not actually stay there; so with this offer we have included an overnight hotel stay.
Norwegian Sun is a comfortable 77,000 tonnes with 9 passenger decks. The Freestyle dining option means that you don’t have set dining times and tables to sit at leaving you free to enjoy your cruise at your own pace. There are 11 dining options on board, 6 are free and include the Four Seasons, Seven seas, Pacific Heights, Garden café, Tapas Bar and room service. For the remaining 5 there is a cover charge payable these include: Le Bistro (French), Il Adagio (Italian), Ginza (Japanese), East Meets West (Steakhouse), Sushi & Teppenyaki. Having tried the Teppenyaki – we highly recommend it. There are also 10 bars / lounges, 1 swimming pool, separate Kids splash pool, 5 hot tubs, spa, fitness centre, Casino, Stardust show lounge, kids facilities and more. We feel these cruises are a bargain for cruising from Dover without the need to fly. Cruise 12 nights from Dover to Copenhagen (Denmark) • Warnemunde (Berlin) • Tallinn (Estonia) • St Petersburg (Russia overnight) • Helsinki (Finland) • Nynashamn (Stockholm, Sweden) • Dover. We have chosen hotels close to Saint Marks Square and are within easy strolling distance of all the historical sights and the Rialto Bridge. This area is also well connected by the relatively inexpensive water bus which also operates a service to the cruise terminal.

CUNARD QUEEN MARY 2: Our special promotion gives you the opportunity to enjoy the classic experience of cruising on the Queen Mary 2 on an epic journey crossing the Atlantic to New York. This is an experience in itself without the interruptions of ports of call with plenty of time to rest, relax, a spot of self appreciation and absolute self indulgence. Be sure to try out the Canyon Ranch Spa, the Planetarium, take part in the themed evenings, have fish & chips in the Golden Lion Pub and book a romantic dinner in the Todd English restaurant. We also recommend dinner reservations in one of the fabulous Kings Court restaurants for speciality waiter service dinning. By the end of your voyage you will wonder where the time has gone. ROYAL CARIBBEAN INTERNATIONAL JEWEL OF THE SEAS: This sleek yacht-like cruise ship is a little smaller than the Queen Mary 2 but is tastefully finished with a great range of facilities. The Windjammer restaurant is one of the best known casual dining venues in the cruise industry and is open virtually 24 hours a day. The Schooner Bar makes a great meeting place and the Colony Club is a stylish alternative evening out. The spa and fitness centre are excellent plus there is a relaxing thermal suite. We recommend an extra special dinner in Chops Grille for incredible steaks or Portofino’s for a delicious Italian. With our bonus on board spending money – it won’t cost you any extra!
