Welcome
I can hardly believe how quickly this year is flying by! We’ve already had the longest day of the year, the BBQ season is well and truly underway, World Cup dreams are sadly over for England, and by the time this hits your doorsteps the Wimbledon champion for this year will also have been decided. Well it’s been such an exciting month at Jetline HQ. Firstly we were delighted to pick up the award for Best Cruise Deals Provider at Travelzoo’s 5th Birthday Award Ceremony, a hard to win accolade which we now have proudly on display! This was awarded to us for supplying the most unique and exclusive cruise holiday offers. Then we were lucky enough to be invited onto the two night launch of Norwegian Cruiseline’s newest ship, Epic – and all I can say is wow! See pages 12 and 13 for our full report, it was a great couple of days, and I look forward to hearing from Nelda, our Roving Reporter who is currently enjoying the inaugural sailing over to New York. On page 10, we’re launching our next competition, for readers to write a review on our website at www.jetlinecruise.com and be in with the chance to win a whopping £200 voucher to use at M&S. It won’t take long, so log on now and give it a go – you have to be in it to win it! With the school holidays upon us, now is the time to start planning ahead for your Autumn and Winter sunshine getaways and we’ve pulled together some of the best deals still available in 2010 for you. And if you’ve not given any thought to your 2011 trips yet, we’ve some amazing deals and destinations to tempt you with. Don’t forget, the offers featured in Cruise Ahoy are just a small selection of our deals at Jetline – if you don’t see anything you fancy, or you’re just not sure where you want to go, call one of our specialists who’ll be sure to have the holiday for you, at the best price guaranteed!

Fun for all the Family on a Disney Cruise
Cunard Down Under Queen Mary 2’s first Royal Circumnavigation of Australia has been scheduled for February, 2012. The 2620-passenger ship will call at Sydney, Fremantle, Adelaide, the Whitsundays, Cairns, Darwin, Melbourne, and Brisbane. Political and cultural ties between the UK and the US will be in focus on a series of crossings aboard the Queen Mary 2. Ambassadors, statesmen, politicians, journalists, academics, and broadcasters with a shared interest between the United States and the United Kingdom will lecture on the subject.
Reinventing childrens’ onboard experiences is one of Disney’s goals this year. More activities will be on tap and children will choose involvements based on interest as well as age. There will still be supervised age-related clubs on the company’s two ships and on its private island, Castaway Cay, but the menu of activities will be open to all. More than 100 attractions will range across interests from Disney characters to science to adventure to cooking to boot camp to conservation to animals to magic to computers, and more. Whole families will be able to participate with their children in stage productions, first-run film shows, poolside movies, deck parties, a family club, a Castaway Cay Family Beach, and more. Disney have also revealed more details about their next ship, the 2500-passenger Disney Dream. It will debut early in 2011 with such features as a themed interactive sports deck, an adult poolside, a shipboard water coaster named AquaDuck, a miniature nine-hole golf course with each hole themed to a Disney character or setting, digital sports simulators for soccer-tennis-basketball-golf, full-court basketball, and two mini-sized sports courts for little ones. A 1500 square foot Nemo’s Reef will provide pop jets, bubblers, and underwater friends like Nemo, Dory, and Marlin for little children. Among highlights in the cabins: divided bathrooms, allowing for simultaneous use of different facilities.
Holland America Line News Holland America will have a major presence in Europe next year, when it places seven ships there. The fleet will conduct 100 departures to 162 ports of call during an April to November season. Northern Europe, the Med, and transatlantic crossings will make up the bulk of the schedule. Round-trip itineraries will depart from London, Rome, Venice, Barcelona, Athens, Copenhagen, Amsterdam, and Rotterdam. More than 65 guest culinary experts will participate this year in Holland America’s fleet-wide Culinary Arts Centre programmes. Each of the company’s ships has been outfitted with a professional-quality kitchen where passengers and chefs gather to instruct, learn, and cook. This year’s faculty includes chefs from major restaurants around the nation, culinary authors, food columnists, culinary educators, and food-television personalities. New York themes will highlight public areas aboard Holland America’s newest ship, the soon-to-be-launched 2106-passenger Nieuw Amsterdam (New York’s original name was New Amsterdam). They include art, craftwork, and historical artifacts documenting New York’s history and Dutch
influences. Holland America has served the city for 138 years, having brought hundreds of thousands of immigrants there from Europe. The 11-deck ship will start a summer of Mediterranean cruising on July 4. An additional 55 shore excursions are being added to Holland America’s offerings this summer, among them 17

in Europe and 22 in its newest port of call, Anchorage. Samples include an afternoon in Cognac, France, learning how the beverage is produced; Historic Jewish Dublin; the National Museum of Alexandria; a sled dog rodeo in Alaska; and bridges, causeways, and islands of Romsdalsfjord.

Europe & the Med
Extend your stay in one of these top 5 ports Quite often our best cruises deals in the Mediterranean and Europe are reached by flying to a European city. Why not extend your stay and get the most out of your holiday by exploring the city your cruise ship departs from. This is also quite handy when flying from regional airports from around the UK where flight times don’t quite match up with cruise departure and arrival times. Also by adding on an extra night or two – it may mean you are not flying on peak days of the week and could reduce the cost of your flight. We have picked our top 5 most popular cruise ports in Europe.
1
BARCELONA This is a great place to stay with lots of things to see and do for everyone. The airport is situated South along the coast from central Barcelona. The city centre can be reached in 25-30 minutes depending on traffic – taxis cost approx 25-30 Euros. The only place to stay is centrally as close to Las Ramblas area as possible. Las Ramblas is a 1.2 Km pedestrian avenue full of shops, bars and restaurants – this is the equivalent of Leicester Square in London. At the end of Las Ramblas is the monument to Christopher Columbus which marks the entrance to the Port area. The nearest cruise terminal is about 10 minutes walk from here & there are 7 cruise terminals in total. In fact the Blue Bus Shuttle departs form this monument and can take you directly to your ship for just 2 Euros. Sightseeing musts in Barcelona are the Sagrada Familia Cathedral - they started building this in 1882 and it is still not finished. To satisfy hubby perhaps try the Barcelona FC museum. There is also the Picasso Museum and the Magic Fountain of Mon Juic for Nightly light, water and Music extravaganza’s. The last thing to mention about Barcelona is Port Aventura theme park about an hour outside of Barcelona. This is Spain’s answer to Universal Studios of Walt Disney World in the States – with it shows, roller coaster rides and themed areas of the Med, Imperial China, Aztec Mexico, Wild West and Polynesian Jungles.
ROME There are two airports for Rome - Ciampino and Fiumicino. Fiumicino is likely to be the airport we use for our cruises – served by Easyjet and BA. Fiumicino is also known as Leonardo Da Vinci airport and is situated approx 16 miles from Rome City centre. Rome is an incredibly busy city and is more for those who want to see the sights. The best place to stay is as close to the train Terminal as possible as it is easy to get to all of the main attractions from here on the Metro. You can buy a metro ticket for just 4 Euros riding for up to 6 hours to all of the main sights for this price. Whilst in Rome you must visit the Colosseum, The Roman Forum ruins (which is the old heart of the Roman Empire), the Trevi Fountain, the Pantheon and the Spanish Steps. All of these are easily reached by the metro. Civitavecchia Port is situated 50km north west of Rome. Roundtrip pre-booked transfers usually cost approx £120pp and (unlike many cruise specialists) we usually include these in the cost of your cruise holiday.

Venice A wonderful place to stay for style, scenery, history and romance. There are two airports for Venice - Marco Polo (approx 20 minutes drive) & Treviso (approx 1 hours drive). We recommend always using Marco Polo ( used by BA, Aer Lingus, Easyjet & BMI) as it can sometimes be difficult to get a taxi driver to take you from Venice to Treviso airport. We would recommend two areas to stay in Venice. Piazalle Roma which is literally the end of the road for cars, taxis and buses. This terminus type square is also only 10 minutes walk from the cruise terminals plus restaurants and bars in this area are cheaper. The square is also very well connected by all to all areas of Venice by waterbus – which is the cheapest way of getting around (from here to the Rialto Bridge the cost is approx 5 Euros). It takes approx 30 minutes to travel by waterbus to the Rialto Bridge and it is a great introduction to the wonders of Venice. There are some great restaurants by the canal next to the Rialto Bridge. From the here you can walk through to the most famous part of Venice - Saint Marks Square (Piazza San Marco) which is our second choice for accommodation. The restaurants and bars lining Saint Marks Square are the most expensive; but whilst in Venice you must at least have a drink here to watch the world go by. Top souvenirs would be Venetian Glass or the famous and incredibly flamboyant masks. There are lots of museums to visit and it’s a great place just to get lost and wander through the alleyways, over the bridges and by the canals – utterly charming. When the cruise ships are in a water bus connects Saint Marks Square to the cruise terminal. For those on a budget we even found a Burger King between Saint Marks Square and the Rialto Bridge!!!
4
3 AMSTERDAM We were utterly surprised when we visited Amsterdam – it was kind of like a bigger more modern version of Venice. With wonderful tree lined canals, picturesque buildings, great shops and very friendly locals. The Airport is situated 9 miles South West of Amsterdam and is easily reached by train which takes you to Central station (journey time 15 minutes). This is in the heart of Amsterdam and is only 5-10 minutes walk to the cruise terminal. We would recommend the 4 star Movenpick hotel at the cruise terminal or any hotels in the centre for longer stays to enjoy the excellent nightlife. Amsterdam city centre is contained within a series of interconnected concentric canal rings and so its great to explore the city by boat. Whilst in Amsterdam you must visit the red light district (of course just for a topic of conversation on your cruise), Anne Frank House, Van Gogh Museum, Rijksmuseum and the Magere Brug for an iconic shot of the double leaf Dutch draw bridge connecting both sides of the River Amstel. Everything is within walking distance of central station or alternatively trams are a quicker way to get around.
GENOA Christopher Columbus airport is situated 6km from Genoa city centre passing the port on the way. This may be a bit of an obscure place to stay - but Genoa is steeped in history, has lots of low price cruises departing from here and is the gateway to the Italian Riviera including Portofino - just 15 miles away. Genoa is a dense and fascinating medieval warren of alleyways where Christopher Columbus grew up. Steeped in history Genoa has always been a city of merchants where tiny grocers, textile workshops, and bakeries jostle for position with boutiques, design outlets and goldsmiths. The rejuvenated Old Port area is a great place to stay with its celebrated architecture and lots of things to do. Perhaps explore the maze of narrow streets in the historic centre and marvel at the juxtaposition of late Renaissance style palaces next to humble houses on Via Garibaldi. This is a seventeenth century street with lots of museums and gardens to visit. Nightlife can be found along the waterfront, there are also two theatres, an opera house and even the Britannia Pub.

Norway is well-known for its cleanliness and sophistication. Home to the Vikings, excursions include tours of dedication museums and majestic fjords, mountains and glaciers. Explore magnificent
countryside with diverse landscapes and evergreen forests, gorgeous coastlines and peaceful meadows all nestled between majestic mountain ranges and crystal-clear lakes. Many Baltic cruises include stops in Russia. St. Petersburg, the capital of Russia also known as the “Venice of the North” with its canals and waterways, still shows the historic pain endured as part of the Soviet Union, though it shines with all the grandeur of a proud city. With strong European influences, this city boasts many monuments and gilded and domed buildings of a glittering past. Many excursions include a tour of the Hermitage; originally a palace to the czar, it now houses one of the world’s grandest art museums.

See the midnight sun in the Northern Cape From the glorious spires of St. Petersburg and the idyllic waterfront of Stockholm to the fjords of the Norwegian coast, a cruise to this destination can show you all the inspiring sights of this breathtaking region on a wide selection of enticing cruise holiday options.
Norway’s Geiranger Fjord, lined by soaring snow-capped mountains and fabled waterfalls, is a World Heritage Site that defies description. The stark wonders of North Cape and remote towns like Spitsbergen and Tromsø await further north in Land of the Midnight Sun
Vikings and Norse explorers once sailed these waters and you can too, en route to places like cosmopolitan Oslo, the 14 islands of Stockholm, the Finnish capital of Helsinki and the Old City of Tallin, where time has seemingly stood still.
A Scandinavian and Russian cruise has such deep history and culture in its maritime waterways, it seems only fitting to absorb the beauty of this region gazing from a ship’s deck.

Hi Marie Great holiday. flight to Toronto Air Canada very comfortable, however the Queen Mary 2 was SUPERB, we could not fault a thing, excellent service, good cabin, our wedding anniversary remembered thank you, the crossing was smooth one did not realise we were afloat in the Atlantic. Dear Jetline Having recently returned from a superb break onboard Brilliance of the Seas I wanted to write a quick letter to say a massive thank you for all your help in booking me the most perfect honeymoon. My new wife was delighted with her surprise as she’s always wanted to take a cruise – the ship was beautiful, service superb and ports of call fascinating. Having never been the one in charge of booking a holiday, I was quite lost in where to begin and your staff were faultless in their advice and no detail seemed too much trouble. Needless to say, we are now hooked on cruising, and can’t wait to book our next one! Best regards

The Wait is Over NCL Epic enters service in style - by Claire Pruvost
Driving towards Southampton docks, I always feel a massive feeling of excitement when you turn a corner and there’s your ship, in all it’s glory waiting for new adventures. Epic, Norwegian Cruise Line’s latest vessel launched this week, and, thanks to the glorious weather, my two days onboard felt like a mini break in the Caribbean. It was my first experience of an NCL ship and my expectations of it being garish were unfounded. DINING Having only ever cruised on ships with traditional dining I had not experienced “Freestyle” dining before and was looking for a huge restaurant – expecting to change my allocated dining time to something more suitable. NOT THE CASE on this ship. I love the concept with an outstanding choice of restaurants – 20 in all !!! The specialist venues carry a cover charge of around $25pp but there were also plenty of FREE options. In all restaurants except the self service garden cafe you have to make reservations to dine each evening at a time that suits you- get in quick though as they do get booked up at popular times. Sometimes food on huge ships can be mediocre – but as these were smaller specialist eateries

– the food was fresh, hot and mouth watering. On such a brief trip I had the chance to try the Manhattan Room (Free) – an elegant supper club complete with music dancing and entertainment while you eat. On the second night I dined in Moderno Churrascaria ( small cover charge) – inspired by Argentina’s famous restaurants where tableside Passadors present huge skewers of succulent meats and a help yourself salad bar. I also had a cheeky stop at the Sushi bar - as good as London’s top Japanese restaurants. Other options include: O’Sheehan’s Neighbourhood Bar & Grill – for all American favourites and comfort food 24 hours a day with 10-pin bowling lanes, sports TV and pool tables adding to the fun atmosphere. Spice H2O – just for adults, serving up a contemporary take on Latin and Asian-influenced cuisine. Taste – located in the ship’s atrium, offering an exciting menu of traditional and contemporary cuisine in a retro-chic setting. Shanghai’s – for chinese dishes and noodle bar. world, France, Italy, Spain, Mexico, the Orient, Japan and the USA – my advice would be, bring your appetite and make use of the superb fitness centre onboard to keep the pounds off!
take a cruise onboard Epic. Cirque Dreams & Dinner is held in the Spiegel Tent, just like inside a Big Top where you can dine and watch Broadway, eccentricity and acrobatics come to life. Other highlights include:
STATEROOMS The staterooms are contemporary, curved and very different to the norm. As you enter your stateroom you walk through the bathroom “area” to get to your bed and dressing area. The shower cubicle is on one side, the WC cubicle is on the other side and the washbasin is in your stateroom opposite the vanity area.
Bliss Ultra Lounge: Is a very different nightclub concept – dark, mysterious and saucy with plush velvet furnishings, black fringe curtains and even a 4 poster bed!
ENTERTAINMENT & ACTIVITIES During the day, there are endless entertainment and activity options, plenty of classes and a whole host of fun features including a rock climbing and abseiling wall, ten pin bowling and mind-blowing water slide park (you must try The Epic Plunge, the only bowl slide at sea with a drop through a 200-foot-long tube!). We were onboard for the final England first round World Cup match and were lucky enough to enjoy watching it on the top deck massive H20 screen in the sunshine! My only criticism would be the lack of sunbeds, and I do think on busy sailings, it could feel a little jam-packed out on deck at times. Mandara Spa, the largest spa at sea is luxury and pampering personified. There’s some fabulous shops, new types of classes like tequila tasting or improv comedy, and one of the best kid’s and teens’s activity programmes at sea. I was seriously impressed by the evening entertainment options. Blue Man Group have been brought onboard with their one-of-a-kind theatrical performance, it was extremely talented and most definitely a must see if you
The Second City – comedy and live improvisation show Legends in Concert – top celebrity impersonators appealing to music fans of all ages Howl at the Moon – high energy rock ‘n’ roll duelling piano show Fat Cats – live blues and mellow jazz venue Murder Mystery – ‘Who Dunnit?’ show, where you in the audience become part of the action There are 20 bars and lounges onboard Epic, including the first genuine Ice Bar at sea – a bit of a novelty, and with a cover charge to enter, worth the experience if you haven’t trialled London’s version. My personal feeling at times was that some of the bars seemed a little like being in a hotel ‘lobby’, and the layout of one leading into the next didn’t always make sense. But plenty of choice and some lovely ideas and décor meant that you would never be bored!!! Norwegian Epic will be sailing the Caribbean throughout 2010 – Eastern and Western 9 night Fly/Cruises with stops at Nassau, St Maarten and St Thomas or Cozumel, Costa Maya and Roatan. In 2011, she’ll be spending the season in Europe, cruising from Barcelona and taking in Palma, Livorno, Civitavecchia and Naples.
What is so great is that a number of our team have experienced the ship first hand, so if a cruise on this new ship appeals, give us a call now and we can give you all the advice you need. TO BOOK CALL US ON 0800 082 2160 OR VISIT www.jetlinecruise.com
