Our monthly magazine presents to you a selection of the best offers we can find both as a retail agent acting on behalf of the cruiselines and those we have put together as a tour operator. Offers on pages 16 / 17 / 22 / 25 are full packages offered by the cruise lines, for which we act as an agent, and their terms and conditions of booking apply. We offer protection under our ABTA Bond (J1693) in respect of our solvency. Other offers include packages we have put together, for which we hold an ATOL licence No: 6153 for your protection. Jetline Travel’s terms and conditions of booking apply. In some cases we have found the most convenient and best priced flight arrangements are with low cost airlines such as Easyjet, BMI Baby, Flybe, and Jet 2. In these instances we have illustrated the total cost of these holidays to include the current flight cost, but you would book the flight directly with the flight operator, and their terms and conditions of booking would apply. For your convenience, and with your consent, we can book direct flights on your behalf using your credit or debit card details. The airfare element of these offers cannot be covered by our ATOL protection. Such offers appear on pages 20 & 23.

Hi, I’m James the newest member of the Customer Services team and transferred over to Jetline Cruise in October from our sister company Jetline Travel. I’m the one on the end of the phone if you need help with a query or would like any extra information on your trip. I travelled around North America and Canada 2001/2002 and worked in ski resorts while away. I have extensive knowledge on various resorts in Canada such as Banff as I was there for 8 months so if you are thinking about visiting these places then I can give you some advice. It’s a good feeling to help out and chat with you on the phone and to hear how excited you are about your future cruise, especially if it means your are travelling to warmer shores or seas - who wouldn’t want to escape after the winter we’ve had here in the UK?! I’m really looking forward to my first experience on a cruise ship and am lucky enough to be attending the launch of the new P&O Cruises ship, Azura in April. I’m hoping to stow away on the QM2 later on in the year enroute to New York as I’ve always wanted to sail into the US past the Statue of Liberty like so many tourists now, and new world settlers experienced in the past. I really look forward to speaking with you soon.

Favourite cruise line: P&O Cruises Hobbies: Gym/ spending time with friends and holidays.

Having arrived at the Jetline team just before Christmas, I was very excited getting a job working for one of the best cruise specialists in the industry. After settling in and getting on the phones I managed to broaden my knowledge of the cruise industry of which I had some experience in the past working for a tour operator. My studies include a travel and tourism course which led me to Greece where I was an established Club Rep manager for many years. I do like travelling and have been all over Greece and Cyprus as well as to Australia where I spent 3 months travelling the continent. The one place I would love to visit would be Canada and eventually I will get to go. My love of the cruise industry has grown since working for Jetline, my other cruise experiences have been on the Norwegian Cruise Line ships which I would recommend to any new cruiser. Next month I am one of the lucky ones to have been invited down to Southampton to experience P&O’s new ship the Azura, so do get on the dog and bone and I will let you know what it is like. It’s great to get on the phone and to help all of our customers looking for cruises all over the world, so I look forward to hearing from you very soon.

Cruise Industry News Cruises certainly seem to be bucking the trend of the holiday industry with cruise lines constantly increasing their prices. This just goes to show how popular cruises are becoming with their all in one holiday value including meals and entertainment. The beginning of March saw the end of a number of “Start Of Year” discount campaigns from a variety of cruise lines who remain confident of strong sales throughout March. Here at Jetline we are constantly working to offer low prices and great deals against a backdrop of continuing price increases. With this in mind we have found that longer duration cruises are offering the best value for money as are unique stay and cruise holidays visiting a number of places with land based hotel stays and a cruise. These are being snapped up by our seasoned cruise members looking for something different and also by new to cruise members who want to try a cruise together with a hotel stay. Look out also for our specially negotiated deals with onboard credit to give you even more value for money.

Fincantieri to Build Two Prototype Ships for Princess Cruises Following last December’s order, the only one in the world in 2009 and after a standstill of almost two years, Carnival once again chooses Fincantieri for its ships for the future. Fincantieri and the US cruise group Carnival Corporation & plc have reached an agreement to build two prototype ships for Princess Cruises. The agreement is subject to the execution of a definitive contract, financing and other customary closing conditions. At 139,000 gross tonnes and with a passenger capacity of 3,600, the new ships will take up service in Spring 2013 and 2014 and will be the largest built to date for the Princess Cruises fleet. Commenting on the agreement Giuseppe Bono, Chief Executive Officer of Fincantieri, said: ”This important agreement is a source of pride and optimism for us. Proof that we are increasingly world leader even in this time of crisis, having gained the only order for a cruise ship in 2009 - also from Carnival Group - and now this agreement for two prototype vessels for Carnival’s prestige brand Princess Cruises”. Mr. Bono went on to add: “Since these are prototypes we hope that in the years to come they will be followed by a substantial number of ships of the same “family””. Mr. Bono concluded: “Last but not least I am convinced that Fincantieri, by consolidating its world leadership in the sector, will succeed in overcoming the crisis and be even stronger than before ”. Since 1990 Fincantieri, world leader in the sector, has built 52 cruise ships, of which 48 for different brands in Carnival Group. Without taking into consideration today’s agreement, Fincantieri will build a further 11 vessels between today and 2012 (of which 7 for Carnival Group).

Princess Revives Nostalgic Cruising Tradition With New Bon Voyage Experience xxxx

Royal Caribbean International Announces Daily Reservations For My Time Dining Guests

Reviving a signature tradition from the early days of cruising, Princess Cruises is debuting an innovative, new program giving passengers the opportunity to invite their friends and family aboard their ship on embarkation day to wish them “bon voyage” and get a taste of the onboard experience.

Royal Caribbean International has announced Daily Reservations, an online reservation system for guests enrolled in the My Time Dining programme.

Called the “Bon Voyage ExperienceSM,” the program is a new twist on the departure celebration of bygone days, when friends and family would routinely come aboard to see off passengers. Because of increasingly tighter security procedures, this practice disappeared more than two decades ago, but it’s now back – complete with lunch in the dining room and tour of the ship.

Unique in the cruise industry, the Bon Voyage ExperienceSM enables passengers to extend an invitation to their guests to join them onboard during sailing day for a four-course dining room lunch with wine, a ship tour and even a souvenir photo. Passengers and their guests can enjoy priority embarkation and will be able to spend approximately four hours together on the ship before it sets sail. The cost for the program is $39 per person, which can be applied toward a future Princess cruise. The program will debut in March in the ports of Los Angeles and Fort Lauderdale, and then roll out to New York, San Francisco and Seattle. “Long-time cruisers will recall the fun of the bon voyage send-off with their family and friends, and we’re excited to re-introduce a new, modern version of this experience,” said Jan Swartz, Princess Cruises executive vice president. Cruise passengers will be notified about the program through the pre-cruise emails they receive from Princess as their cruise date approaches.

Top 10 tips Extras - Are they worth it? Part 3

It’s definitely worth getting drinks as an extra!

1 PREPAID TIPS This certainly takes the aggravation and some of the awkwardness out of tipping. Plus it helps you to budget for your holiday better - even though one perceives that the holiday costs that much more at the start when you book. Rather than paying at your discretion on board when the tips get swallowed up with holiday spending money. By prepaying tips the amount you pay is fixed in pound sterling rather than paying in a fluctuating local currency on board. However by paying on board you have more control on who it goes to and you have the satisfaction of actually handing it to the person who has given you great service during your cruise. The standard tipping rate for all of the crew members on your voyage is approximately a collective £7 per day per passenger (this varies among the cruise lines). Every time we have prepaid tips we feel compelled to hand a little extra to our cabin steward & main table waiter – at the end of the cruise it always seems a little awkward to thank them for great service and not hand them anything even though we have prepaid the tips. Is it worth prepaying? There are pros and cons.

2 EXCURSIONS Investigate the excursions available before you travel Your decision about which suite to book should be based on how much time you intend to spend in your cabin

6

Holidays are for winding down so why not pamper yourself!

Needless to say the excursions offered on board by the cruise line always seem to be eye wateringly expensive. However they are well run and you are travelling in the knowledge that the ship is not going to leave without one of its organised excursion coaches. It is always worth logging into your booking online with the cruise line to investigate what excursions are available, what there is to see and how much the cruise line is charging. For the complex ones, popular ones and ones which are further away from the ship– it is worth pre-booking – no money is exchanged at this point as the cost will be added to your ship board account. If once you are on board and you do not feel like going you can usually cancel them a couple of days beforehand at no charge. By studying the excursions you will get a good idea of what you can do yourself by local taxi to save lots of money. Are they worth it? No! But you will get the most out your ports of call by booking them.

This is the third in our series of 3 articles in which we feature a couple of essential top 10 lists. In this last installment we explore the top 10 optional extra things that you could pay for outside the initial cost of your cruise holiday when you book. In this edition we cut to the chase and expose what is really behind all of these dressed up extras. Are they worth it ?

3 SPECIALITY DINING These are smaller restaurants on board the ship separate to the main restaurant - which is included in the price. These smaller restaurants offer a specialised menu at an extra cost of usually around $20 - $30 per person. The menu depends on the theme – it could be a Steakhouse, Italian, an Asian, Sushi, Teppenyaki, French, Indian or other. The menus are excellent and the food is cooked on a much smaller scale for smaller numbers of people. Plus the chefs specialise in the speciality of that restaurant. Look out for our bonus offers where a dinner in a speciality restaurant is FREE such as some of our Norwegian Cruise Line offers (call for details). Also some cruise lines such as Cunard and Celebrity convert part of their self service restaurants in the evening to FREE waiter service speciality areas. Is it worth it? Only If you want to splash out one night for a special treat!

4 LOYALTY CLUBS You are usually automatically enrolled after your first cruise and each time you book another cruise with the same cruise line you build your points and move up through the various tiers. This one is not something you have to pay extra for - but you have to do a fair number of cruises to achieve any meaningful freebies. This is usually something like 10 cruises or 70 days at sea. If you mention to other passengers on board which level of loyalty club you are at it is embarrassing when someone is much higher - so it’s best not to say anything ! Freebies would perhaps include a free hour or two of internet use on board and an invitation to a private cocktail party. The more cruises you do the more cocktail parties and free internet time you get. In most cases once you have achieved the highest tier the benefits are great such as free entry to a special club on board with free drinks and /or priority embarkation / disembarkation to beat the queues. Are they worth it? Yes! But don’t expect much at the start.

5 SUITES Essentially you can enjoy your cruise as much or as little whether you have booked an interior cabin or a suite. Cruising is a social thing and is one where the majority of your time on board is spent outside your stateroom enjoying all the ship has to offer. Your decision to book a suite should be based on how much time you plan to spend in your cabin. Obviously suites are much bigger than standard staterooms but the facilities inside are the same. The only difference being that you may have a bath instead of a shower cubicle, a larger TV, a larger balcony and a butler. I am never sure what you would use a butler for particularly since you have very eager to help cabin stewards in standard staterooms to cater for your every need. Book a suite and the cruise line will generally try to justify the higher price by giving you extras (which vary among them) such as: free access to special restaurants, free access to the spa, priority embarkation and disembarkation, free internet time, special cocktail parties, special areas of the ship only for suite users…. Oh and a pillow menu! Are they worth it? Depends on how decadent you want to be and if you like all the extras.

To book call: 0800 923 1612

6 THE SPA A big money spinner for the cruise lines – where all sorts of treatments, massages and therapies are offered at a charge to enhance your mood and look. The spa areas are very inviting and tranquil places to visit as they are separate from the FREE busier areas of the ship. In addition to the private treatment rooms you will usually find communal areas with thermal lounges (heated ceramic sun beds), steam rooms, saunas, therapeutic and fragranced power showers, chill out lounges and hydro therapy pools – which are like a large pool sized Jacuzzi. If you pay for a treatment you would usually get free use of these communal spa areas on the day of the treatment. Otherwise there is an entrance charge to use this area. The daily entrance charge is a bit pricey – but you can usually book a package of multiple entrances which reduce the daily cost. Oh – look out for multiple treatment discounted packages and for cut price treatments during port days. The cruise line will try to encourage you to spend money on the ship on the days when everyone is getting off. Is it worth it? Entrance to the communal areas – definitely. But the treatmentsoverpriced!

7 POST CRUISE TRANSFERS By now you should be familiar with the fact that most of our exclusive cruise offers do not include transfers (unless otherwise stated) - the reason for this is that on arrival to your cruise destination from the UK it is far cheaper, more convenient and quicker to get a local taxi. As you can appreciate local taxis at an airport are in abundance. But in a cruise port taxi ranks can be overwhelmed by the sheer numbers of people wanting a taxi at the same time. Therefore we have consistently found it to be much easier and convenient to book a transfer at the end of your cruise on board the ship at either the purser’s desk or excursion desk. Whilst these are dearer than local taxis - they take the hassle out of disembarkation day. By booking on board your transfer for after the cruise in this way – you can get off the ship much quicker and find your transfer coach much easier than any other arrangements. Are they worth it? Yes – Absolutely!

8 DRINKS ON BOARD Let’s not beat around the bush – they are at London West End Prices! Cocktails of the day are cheaper as are locally branded wines, beers and spirits. One of the reasons for this is that every time a drink is ordered a service charge is added to the cost which cannot be removed – therefore the prices are inflated by around 15% above normal. On the plus side the measures are much larger than in the UK – hooray! Are they worth it? Need I answer this - A fact of cruising life!

keepsake. However our tendency is to buy two or three - but we only ever end up displaying one at home. So be selective and buy your best one - you can always get a copy done in Boots for a fraction of the cost for friends and family! Are they worth it? Yes – but just buy one !

10 PREPAID AIRLINE BAGGAGE All airlines have recently tightened up their basic FREE luggage allowances included in the fare and have all done pretty much the same – that is restricting your FREE checked baggage to one item of around 20-23Kg per passenger (check what this is at the time of booking). In addition to this you can take hand luggage - some airlines limit this to 6kg such as Virgin Atlantic. Others such as American Airlines may limit this to a specific size (i.e.: what can fit under the seat in front of you). The exceptions to this are low cost airlines such as Easyjet and internal flights within the USA not booked as part of your Trans-Atlantic flight. Whenever we base our prices on low cost airlines such as Easyjet we include the additional basic pre-booked luggage charge in the cost. In the case of Easyjet this is £10 pp each way for 1 item of 20kg. If there are internal flights in the USA that are not part of your Trans-Atlantic flight the fare DOES NOT include any free checked baggage but does include generous hand luggage of around 15kg plus a personal item. If you exceed the allowed weight then you will be charged heftily at the check in desk. Therefore it is important to check on your luggage allowances before you travel and assess if you need more. You can pre-book extra items on most airlines - in some cases this could be an extra bag up to 20kg for $20. Other airlines such as Easyjet - you can prebook extra Kilos at the time of booking for £7 per Kilo instead of £10 at the check in desk. One thing to combat this is to pack sparingly, weigh your cases before you go and carry heavy items such as books and cameras in your coat pockets or hands. Also your luggage is likely to be heavier on the way home – with the all the bargains you have purchased on holiday. (Free checked baggage allowances and pre-booked excess baggage charges vary among airlines; the amounts shown here are for general guidance only). It is worth it? Yes. You may get some free internet useage as a member of loyalty clubs

9 PHOTOS ON BOARD These are a great memento of your cruise providing a snapshot of you in your finest hour dressed up to the nines! They cost around $20-$30 per A4 sized glossy photo. They are a great source of entertainment too – posing for photos, seeking them out in the galleries and having a laugh at others on the way. We always indulge ourselves when we go on a cruise as they are a lovely

Relax on beautiful beaches

Hawaii is the newest of the 50 U.S States and is the only state made up entirely of islands. It occupies most of an archipelago in the central Pacific Ocean, southwest of the continental United States, southeast of Japan, and northeast of Australia. Hawaii’s natural beauty, warm tropical climate, inviting waters and waves, and active volcanoes make it a popular destination for tourists, surfers, biologists, and volcanologists alike. Learn about the Hawaiian culture

Due to its mid-Pacific location, Hawaii has many North American and Asian influences along with a vibrant native culture. The state encompasses nearly the entire volcanic Hawaiian Island chain, which comprises hundreds of islands spread over 1,500 miles. At the southeastern end of the archipelago, the eight “main islands” are (from the northwest to southeast) Ni’ihau, Kaua’i, O’ahu, Moloka’I, Lana’I, Kaho’olawe, Maui and Hawai’i. The last is by far the largest and is often called “The Big Island” to avoid confusion with the state as a whole. The fresh, floral air energizes you on these beautiful islands whilst the warm, tranquil waters refresh you. The breathtaking, natural beauty renews you and locals and visitors alike truly believe that there’s no place on earth like Hawaii. Whether you’re a new visitor or returning, the six unique islands offer distinct experiences that will entice any traveller. On a cruise you can explore the islands and discover your ideal travel experience. Step off the ship and it’s as if the volume on your senses

8

has been turned up. You can smell the fresh plumeria in the air, see sapphire seas, emerald valleys, and halos of rainbow arches. Feel the warm radiance of the sun on your cheeks while a cool rush of ocean water sucks the sand from between your toes. It’s no secret that the Islands of Aloha are a scenic paradise for the senses, but an exploration of the rich cultural history of the Hawaiian people makes your first visit to the islands even richer. With so much to experience, you’ll find the warm embrace of Hawaii waiting for you on your second visit and beyond. Home to one of the world’s most active volcanoes and the world’s tallest sea mountain, the Hawaiian islands are the birthplace of surfing and the hula. The former seat of a royal kingdom, Hawaii is one of the youngest geological formations in the world and the youngest state of the union. But perhaps Hawaii’s most unique feature is its Aloha Spirit: the warmth of the people of Hawaii that wonderfully complements the Islands’ perfect temperatures.

6 Ways To Get off the Beaten Path in Hawaii: • Hike along the Napali Coast on Kauai. • Discover the local art scene in downtown Oahu during the monthly ‘First Friday’ art walk. • Take a swim in the peaceful waters of Kaupoa beach on Molokai. • Sunbathe on the golden sands of Polihua Beach on Lanai. • Dress warmly and watch the sunrise from the top of Haleakala National Park on Maui.

A number of cruise lines will be offering itineraries with ports of call in these beautiful islands in 2010 and 2011.

When you cruise around this beautiful destination you can chose to hike between the lush, 2000-foot cliffs of Waipio Valley on Hawaii’s Big Island, explore miles of beach perfect for building sand castles, collecting seashells, or chasing hermit crabs. Submarines, helicopters, and glass-bottom boats to ride in are a great way to spend time with your family, or take them to one of the aquariums housing dolphins and sharks. There are museums where they can learn about volcanoes and the stars and as “Ohana” is the Hawaiian word for “family”, you’ll find the importance of ohana here in everything from weekly family-friendly events to the keiki (children) learning programs.

The wonder of Hawaii is more than enough to spark the imagination of any child and a few days in the Islands and it won’t be long before you start feeling like a kid again too.

Cunard’s Queen Victoria will be spending a lot more time in Hawaii in 2011: Cunard’s first interisland voyages, 14-day round-trip sailings out of Los Angeles are on sale while the two “Hawaiian Adventure” voyages are not until early 2011, which gives interested passengers plenty of time to put down a deposit and save up for the actual trip. Princess Line’s Golden Princess can take you in style to places you’ve always wanted to see and will feature Hawaii in it’s destinations. Among this magnificent ship’s features are a lively piazza-style atrium, three state-of-the-art show lounges, a tranquil adults-only Sanctuary, the Movies Under the Stars outdoor theater, sparkling pools, and numerous dining options, including showplace specialty venues. Authentic yet modern, P&O Oriana is a great ship for all ages. Teak decks a tiered stern and art deco style interiors. Her design helps create an atmosphere that epitomises the romance of cruise travel whilst her entertainment ranges from shows to a spa, gym and cyb@study. She will be offering world cruise itineraries in 2010 and 2011 which also feature Hawaii ports on call.

6 Family Activities in Hawaii: • Visit the Kauai Children’s Discovery Museum in Kapaa for hands-on fun. • Keiki will love “Ohana Adventure” at the Polynesian Cultural Centre on Oahu. • Watch a dolphin show at Sea Life Park on Oahu. • View well-preserved ancient Hawaiian fishponds on Molokai. • Explore the tide pools of Hulopoe Bay on Lanai. • See the nation’s largest tropical reef aquarium at the Maui Ocean Centre. • Learn about volcanoes at the Kilauea Visitor Centre.

Extend your stay in the USA Our guide to extending your stay in the main US cities before or after your cruise

Miami

Having travelled the States extensively - here is our opinion and first hand knowledge on the most popular cruise departure cities and land stay cities to enhance your cruise holiday. NEW YORK: Our first visit to New York was one of concern and trepidation - which of course was completely unfounded. This city is buzzing and it is certainly a place you would want to return to. If you have not been here before you must stay for at least 3 nights to fit the best bits in. The city is built on a grid of roads with Avenues running North to South and Streets running East to West. The area (known as Mid Town) immediately below Central Park is the best place to stay. This area can be defined as between 34th St ( Macys & the Empire State Building) and 57th St (Central Park). Naturally this is where the most expensive hotels are. Within this area and in walking distance are Times Square, Grand Central Station, The Rockerfeller Centre and the best shops in the 5th Ave area including Tiffanys, Abercrombie & Fitch, Levis, Apple Mac, Banana Republic, Bloomingdales, Crate & Barrel and Barneys. Our preferred hotels at a reasonable price would start with the 3 Wyndham Garden Times Sq, Edison or Wellington. 4 Fitzpatrick, Tudor Court or Radisson Lexington & 5 Waldorf Astoria. The Subway is a great way to get around particularly when travelling from one end of Mid Town to another. It is ideal to travel down to Union Square area for the Flat Iron Building and onto the Downtown Financial district for Wall Street, Ground Zero, Brooklyn Bridge and Battery Park. Battery Park is where the boats depart from for The Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. We recommend going over to Brooklyn on the Subway during the day and walking back across Brooklyn Bridge for some incredible views of the Manhattan skyline. Also go up the Empire State Building at dusk for a magical sunset. A car is not recommended in New York. Taxis and the subway will serve you better. Get a map – essential!

10

MIAMI: This is a sprawling city and it generally looks much better in Films than in reality. The main place to stay is Miami South Beach which is approx 10 Miles from the airport and 2 miles from the port. Lots of hotels are situated on Collins Ave which runs the length of Miami Beach for 15 miles. At the Southern end (which is the Miami South Beach end) it starts at Address no 1 going up to about Address no 18000. So you can get a fair idea how far your hotel is from the main South Beach area by its address number on Collins Ave. If it is between 1 and 1900 then you are fairly central. The picturesque neon lit Art Deco area is situated on Ocean Drive (just off Collins Ave) which has the promenade area, main beach and trendiest bars and restaurants. Most of the hotels in this area are Art Deco older 30’s style – small with limited facilities (generally no swimming pools). For centrally located 3 hotels you would be looking at these smaller boutique hotels such as the Wave Hotel actually on Ocean Drive or the Doubletree Surfcomber which is on the beach at 1717 Collins Ave. For 4 hotels perhaps try the Metropole hotel at 635 Collins Ave or the Strand hotel on Ocean Drive. Our choice of central 5 hotels would be the Loews at 1601 Collins Ave or the 5 Hotel Victor which is on Ocean Drive. Both are on the beach with fabulous ocean views. For something very grand in a completely different part of Miami try the Biltmore Hotel in the Coral Gables area. A car is not recommended in Miami – parking places are scarce and expensive. FORT LAUDERDALE: This is one of my favourites and a great alternative to Miami - particularly since many cruise ships sail from Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale. This city is known as the Venice of America where

Grand Canyon the rich and beautiful live with boats moored at the bottom of their tropical gardens. The beach here is white sand stretching as far as the eye can see with the A1A separating it from the hotels. The only hotel situated on the beach is the 4 Sheraton Yankee Clipper with a great range of facilities and it is in a great location. Although a bit tired it makes the perfect base to explore Fort Lauderdale and it is not far from the port. The 4 Grand Hotel and Yacht Club comes highly recommend just across the road from the beach next to a marina. Shopping is far better here than in Miami. Las Olas Boulevard is the main shopping thoroughfare with boutique style shops, some great bars and restaurants. We recommend the Floridian for sassy diner style breakfast and lunches. The most central shopping Mall is the upmarket La Galleria. This has a Macys, Abercrombie & Fitch, Banana Republic and Pottery Barn among others. The Coral Ridge Mall is well worth a visit for a home wares (Super Target ) and Old Navy the trendy discount clothing arm of GAP. For the largest mall we have ever seen try the Sawgrass Mill about 40 minutes drive from the beach west towards the Everglades. This is the largest designer outlet mall in Florida at 4 Times the size of the Arndale Centre in Manchester and the twice the size of Lakeside in Essex. A recommended excursion is to try the Jungle Queen paddle wheel boat This runs a range of daytime trips through the canals past the big houses and expensive yachts. It also runs a great evening excursion to a little island in the back waters where they have a variety show and good ole southern BBQ. You are also ideally located for a trip to the Everglades and an airboat ride. A car is highly recommended in Fort Lauderdale. LAS VEGAS: The airport is situated approx 4 miles away from the southern end of the Strip. The main part of “THE STRIP” starts around the pyramid shaped 4 Luxor hotel and runs north past all the themed hotels up to the 3 Stratosphere Hotel. Further on at the North end of the Strip you will find the main downtown area. The strip is really the only place to stay visiting the themed attractions of the big name hotels such as New York New York, MGM Grand, Bellagio, Venetian, Paris, Circus Circus, Luxor, Treasure Island, Caesars Palace and so on. Perhaps try the Rollercoaster on the top of the Stratosphere tower! Then of course you have the casinos and the headline shows to visit. Big name attractions away from the strip are the Grand Canyon, Hoover Dam, Lake Mead and further away Monument Valley. Fort Lauderdale

Brooklyn Bridge, New York Las Vegas can be quite pricey for hotels if you pick the wrong time to stay. As this is the gambling capital of America hotels charge a premium to stay on a Friday and Saturday night compared to the rest of the week. Also it is convention central with many huge conventions being held throughout the year and so there are big variations in hotel prices from one week to the next. A relatively short flight of between 45 Minutes to an hour will get you from Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle and San Diego. The only airline to fly direct from Las Vegas to the UK– is Virgin Atlantic into London. A car is not particularly useful in Las Vegas. LOS ANGELES: This is a huge city with many different areas separated (it seems) by an hour’s highway driving in either direction. The airport is kind of the most central point on the coast with Venice Beach, Hollywood and Beverley Hills to the north; Long Beach, Anaheim and Laguna beach to the south. Driving is a bit of a nightmare here as the traffic can be quite heavy and there are some serious no go areas. We would recommend staying at an airport hotel and get taxis or go on organised excursions. Must sees are: The Chinese Theatre and the Walk of Fame in Hollywood; Rodeo Drive is relatively close by. Venice Beach is the set for many films with the buzzing promenade typical Baywatch style. Further North is Universal Studios and Magic Mountain for jaw dropping roller coasters. Anaheim is home to Disney Land and the lesser known western theme park of Knotts Berry Farm. The Original Queen Mary is moored at the port in Long Beach this houses a restaurant, museum and hotel – it’s well worth a visit but stay somewhere else ! Finally Laguna Beach is a great place to visit with the more local feel of a seaside town. A car is not recommended in Los Angeles. SEATTLE: Seattle was a surprise as we expected it to be dull and boring. However we found a cosmopolitan city with great shopping, restaurants and night life. As good as Vancouver - there is lots to do such as wander through Pike Place Market, enjoy the panoramic views from the Space Needle or even visit the Boeing factory. We found the city to be very clean and there were some great stores and trendy bars. The cruise terminal is approx a 15 minute walk from the centre of town. The Days Inn Town Centre is a good 3 hotel for those travelling on a budget; while the Executive Hotel Pacific is a well located 4 hotel. A car is not recommended in Seattle.

SAN FRANCISCO: San Francisco is an exciting city and a place that everyone wants to return to. The hub is situated around vibrant Union Square with its cosmopolitan shops and international hotels. From here the historic cable car will take you up over the hill past China Town to Fisherman’s Wharf area and Pier 39. Stop off on the way at The Coit Tower which provides an excellent vantage point. From Fisherman’s Wharf you can take boat trips out to Alcatraz and the Golden Gate Bridge. Perhaps take a stroll in the Golden Gate Park – taking tea in the Japanese Garden, visiting the Botanical Gardens and end up at the beach for a great lunch overlooking the Pacific. For a more local feel visit the Castro and hippy Haight Ashbury for some vintage shopping. The modern tram represents a great way to get around whereas the Cable Car is more of an experience rather than a means of transport. This city is seriously hilly and walking long distances is tiring. Market Street runs from the Castro area in the South West Part of the city to the Piers in the North East part of the city. This street kind of separates the more residential and tourist areas to the North from the more Industrial type areas to the South. Our recommended hotel here is the 4 Handlery Hotel in the heart of Union Square or perhaps the 3 Holiday Inn Fisherman’s Wharf. The port terminal building is the next pier along from Pier 39 and the Fisherman’s Wharf area. A car is definitely not recommended in San Francisco. Too hilly and no where to park. VANCOUVER: Explore all this city has to offer with it’s wonderful parks, the quaint Gas Town district and perhaps watch the sea planes come and go. A cosmopolitan city very similar to Seattle – Downtown Vancouver is situated on a Peninsula measuring approximately 1 mile wide by 1.5 miles long. On the end of the peninsula is Stanley Park which is roughly the size again of Downtown Vancouver. There are big undercover shopping centres with a slightly different selection of shops to the US. It is quite easy to get around as the city is built on a grid of roads. The Sandman suites on Davie St and Ramada Limited Downtown are well located 3 Hotels. The 4 Westin Bayshore is close to Stanley Park on the waterfront and the 4 Metropolitan is centrally next to the Pan Pacific Mall. For a hotel opposite the cruise terminal try the 5 Fairmont Waterfront. There are lower priced hotels that seem to be situated along Granville Street - but this area is home to the red light district. The airport is situated approximately 10 miles from the cruise port & Downtown Vancouver. A car is not necessary in Vancouver. Vancouver

Take in a show in the two tier, 800 seat theatre or enjoy a drink at the Planet Bar which features a plasma screen showing the world’s most striking natural and man-made wonders. Azura – One Ship, Endless Experiences On board Azura during the day, there’ll be deck games, card games, guest speakers, sports, interactive quizzes and game shows to enjoy. And as the sun sets, Azura’s stars will shine with performances from classical musicians, vocalists, live bands, comedians, celebrity speakers and tribute artists celebrating icons such as Shirley Bassey, Tom Jones and Frank Sinatra. In Manhattan, there’ll also be the opportunity to join in the fun of interactive game shows such as The Weakest Link, Deal or No Deal and Family Fortunes. Azura may well rejoice in fine cruising traditions, but she also features a few innovative ‘firsts’. One of these is SeaScreen, Azura’s open-air cinematic experience. As with any cinema, there’ll be a broad selection of films including British favourites - shown during the day and under the starlit sky at night. But SeaScreen also has a few extras in store. There’ll be themed nights such as ‘Classics by Starlight’ and ‘Oscars’ night. You’ll be able to watch well-loved TV comedy classics and live interviews will be held with the ship’s officers which will include behind the scenes footage of ‘crew only’ areas. Dancing will be at the heart of Azura and this relationship will begin with a ballerina’s blessing at her glittering naming ceremony in Southampton on 10 April 2010. Into the Evening With cocktails created by Olly Smith, a floor-to-ceiling audiovisual wall to transport you around the planet, a classic pub housing our unique heritage collection and a New York inspired lounge, Azura’s venues are setting new standards. Malabar Inspired by the contemporary hotels lining Mumbai’s sweeping Marine Drive, a blaze of fiery colour will greet you on arrival in Malabar. This dramatic venue is adorned with sumptuous features such as a shimmering gold leaf

ceiling dome and seductive red voile drapes. Colonial wicker chairs invite you to sit a while as bar stewards keep drinks refreshed. In an evening the venue sparkles, not only from the ornate starlit table lamps, but from an array of entertainment including cabaret acts, elegant dancing and live music performances. Manhattan Akin to the chic lofts of New York City, Manhattan provides a golden delicious bite of the Big Apple. A bright and bold space featuring exposed brickwork, stainless steel and dark polished teak; every night will dance to a different beat. With spectacular cabaret performances, fun quiz shows, tribute acts and glittering discos, this multitalented entertainment venue will have something special in store for everyone. Manhattan will be the place to be seen after hours. The Glass House If you are a fan of the great grape, then you are certain to be a fan of The Glass House, Azura’s wine bar and restaurant. A haven for quaffers and connoisseurs alike, the linear layout of this stylish venue follows that found in vineyards across the world. On the menu, you’ll find a comprehensive selection of worldwide wines, with tasting notes complied by Olly Smith. The menu even features exclusive vintages, available by the glass rather than the bottle. And to complement these wonderful wines? Delicious dishes of fresh grill fare that can be enjoyed noon and night. The Blue Bar This bar is the venue with the view. Located at the very top of Azura’s atrium, The Blue Bar is the perfect place to watch the elegant dancers waltzing across the polished teak dance floor three decks below. Decorated in hues of blue with oversized armchairs to unwind in, intelligent lighting dramatically transforms this space from day to night. Serving speciality cocktails mixed by expert bar tenders, The Blue Bar also offers exclusive champagnes and caviar. Close to Azura’s main dining rooms, this is an ideal place for pre-dinner drinks. Brodie’s Step into Brodie’s and you’ll instantly feel at home. Named after Brodie McGhie Wilcox, co-founder of P&O, this eclectic British bar has many guises. Close to the casino and featuring a full size pool table and darts board, Brodies will also play host to live music and show

a variety of sports events on the plasma screens dotted around the room. With a nod to classic London pubs, the stylish design of this sociable space makes it welcoming morning, noon and night. Sink into one of the brightly coloured lounge chairs and share a bottle of crisp chilled wine with friends or perch at the highly polished bar enjoying a freshly pulled pint of ale. The Planet Bar Azura is adding an exciting modern twist to a classic cruising favourite – the Crow’s Nest. Traditionally a venue offering spectacular panoramic ocean views, by night, the scenery on show in The Planet Bar will be of a very different kind. Similar in concept to Ventura’s iconic Metropolis Bar, The Planet Bar will have a signature floor-to-ceiling audiovisual wall. However, the experience will be quite different as you are swept up in scenes that will leave you awe-struck and show you some of the world’s most spectacular sights. Focusing on six continents, you’ll be able to visit Planet Africa, Planet America, Planet Australia, Planet Europe, Planet India and Planet Orient, witnessing sublime wonders both natural and man-made. An Edible Experience In Seventeen, one of Azura’s signature restaurants, food is an experience. It’s the taste of something completely new but yet so comfortingly familiar. It’s one exquisite mouthful after another. It’s a theatrical table-side show. And it’s exclusive to Azura. Seventeen adds finesse to fine dining. There’s no doubt that the dishes of Seventeen deserve centre-stage, but on board Azura there are too many dining delectations waiting patiently in the wings - the succulent grill fare on offer in The Glass House, Atul Kochhar’s unique British-Asian cuisine and the six-course, silver service meals presented every evening in the main dining rooms. Azura captures the classics and her main dining rooms are reflective of this. Historically named, Club Dining is available in The Peninsular Restaurant and The Oriental Restaurant, while Freedom Dining can be enjoyed in The Meridian Restaurant, a descendent of the The Meridian Lounge on board Canberra and Meridian Restaurant currently on board Arcadia. And then there’s afternoon tea. A quintessentially classic British indulgence, enjoy delicately sliced sandwiches and glazed cream cakes every afternoon.

Dear Mr Gilder

Dear Jane

Why I would be your best Roving Reporter

I had my first voyage – from Southampton to Malta – in April 1938. I have been cruising regularly since 1962, since when I have been to Alaska in the North West, New Zealand in the South East, Japan in the North East and the Falkland Islands and South Georgia in the South West, and countless places in between. I have crossed the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian Oceans, the Caribbean, Mediterranean, Norwegian, Baltic, Black, Red, Arabian, South China, East China and Tasman Seas and made the transit of the Panama, Suez and Corinth canals. I am an inveterate cruiser! I have travelled with Cunard, P&O, Princess, Holland America, Celebrity (once when Ian Gilder was with us), RCI, NCL, Thomson, Costa, Saga, Union Castle, Shaw Savill, Swan Hellenic, Chandris, American Hawaii cruises, British India, Festival/MSC and Baltic Shipping Company, amongst others!

Fate, that’s what introduced me to cruising in August 1976 – yes, nearly 34 years ago. Two holidays had been cancelled that year, one to Egypt, the other, Guernsey. My mother suggested going on a cruise with friends of hers, well I thought cruising was for ‘OLD FOGIES’ (I was a mere 25 at the time). Where would his cruise be going I asked? The Baltics came the reply. As you can imagine, Russia, Poland, Finland,Denmark etc was rather an exciting prospect all those years ago, so off I went. What happened? Well I met my late husband Graham on the cruise. After a whirlwind romance (proposal accepted on the cruise), engaged in September and married in October, as you can imagine I was hooked on cruising. The name of the ship was ‘Calypso’ after which we named our house. Years of cruising saw us visit many countries including New Zealand, the Far East and Australia. I have so many wonderful memories we shared together. After Graham’s death 6 years ago I thought my cruising days were over. Fortunately I have a great friend Dorothy and step dad Nev who now come cruising with me. The anticipation is as great as ever, as for me, cruising is the best holiday you can have. Lots of friends, who have never cruised before as for my advice before booking and I enjoy sharing wonderful experiences with them. Now they are ‘hooked’ on the fantastic world of cruising. Please let me share my experiences with you.

We have just returned from a Caribbean Cruise on QM2 which was FANTASTIC! Everything went smoothly thanks to Jetline. We boarded in June for my husbands 70th birthday which was on December 21st and booking was so simple with Greg who was very cheerful (unusual judging by other booking agencies) and really helpful. We got the cabin, hotel and flights which we wanted and even got an upgrade in the hotel in New York at no extra cost. We were very grateful to receive copies of the Jetline magazine which gives useful tips and hints on destinations and also helps people to feel they are dealing with ‘real’ people by profiling members of the Jetline team. We will certainly come back to Jetline when we next want to go on a cruise and receiving your ‘welcome home’ message adds a really nice touch.

pass on our thanks to all the team at Jetline Cruise. We look forward to

As you can imagine, I am rapidly running out of new places to visit, but we managed to find one in February with a trip from Singapore to Mauritius with stops at Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Phuket, Colombia, Maldives and Seychelles, only one of which I have been to before. I look forward to my brief break from the UK winter. One thing you can be sure of with a cruise – the next one will always be a new experience and one to be anticipated eagerly! CHRISTMAS CARIBBEAN CRUISE 16 night cruise aboard FULL CUNARD PACKAGE INCLUDING TRANSFERS

BONUS upto $800 per cabin on board credit*

Exclusive early booking offer - book by 31st March

For some the only way to cruise the Caribbean is on the grandest ship of them all - the Queen Mary 2. When moored next to other ships in port – she towers above them and creates a real presence in any port or bay. When in the various ports of call – you tend to meet people from other cruise ships who are in awe of the Queen Mary 2 and decide that a cruise on board is unaffordable. As you can see from our exclusive offer below not only are they affordable – but a Caribbean cruise on Queen Mary 2 makes THE most memorable Christmas and New Year. It’s a weird feeling sitting by the pool on deck in the Caribbean sunshine – with Margarita in hand and a calypso band playing – ON CHRISTMAS EVE. However in the evening the Christmas spirit really gets going:- be it the touching and very sweet Christmas carol sing-along around the grand staircase, or the magnificent candy cane and icy sugar Christmas village or the midnight feast with life-sized sleigh and reindeers. Father Christmas does his rounds on Christmas morning gathering all the kids up from around the ship (like the Pied Piper) in a procession down to the Queens Ball room where all receive a gift. Plus

Traditional roast turkey, stuffing and Christmas crackers in the evening; photos by the big Christmas tree are a must. Celebrate the UK New Year in the Golden Lion pub then see the local New Year in at Midnight at any number of locations around the ship. All in all this is THE Christmas cruise which is not to be missed – and must done at least once in a lifetime. This cruise offers a good all round experience of the Caribbean with some little gems included – such as the cobbled shopping streets of St Thomas, the golden sands of Grand Anse beach in Grenada and the rainforests of St Lucia.

THE CARIBBEAN CHRISTMAS CRUISE: Fly from London to New York. Cruise 15 nights to New York • Grand Turk • Tortola • St Maarten • Curacao • Grenada • Barbados • St Lucia • St Kitts • St Thomas • New York. Fly home overnight.

Add on extra nights before your cruise in New York from only £99pp per night TAKE A FURTHER 5% OFF THE PRICES BELOW IF REGISTERED AS A CUNARD PAST PASSENGER

Lots Of Ports Of Call

We feel these itineraries some of the best Med cruises we have seen packing lots in with just 3 days at sea during a 12 night cruise and at such a low price. Opt for West & East Med to gain a wider experience of the variety a Med cruise has to offer. Or the Venetian Visit incorporating the best of Italy with an overnight visit to our favourite Med port of call – Venice! This mid sized ship was recently refurbished in 2006 combining traditional cruising with a contemporary twist. Generally when walking around this ship there seems to be more space than most and there are a great range of facilities on board too. Such as the Martini Bar with its frozen ice counter top, the Sushi café & the Sunset Bar at the back of the ship – perfect for sail away parties. Look out for the Persian Garden spa with it’s café and choose from 3 big evening entertainment venues Hemisphere’s Lounge, The Crystal Room and the Celebrity Theatre. West & East Med: Fly to Barcelona. Cruise 12 nights to Nice • Livorno (Florence/Pisa) • Civitavecchia (Rome) • Sicily • Mykonos • Ephesus (Turkey) • Piraeus (Athens) • Naples • Barcelona. Fly home. The pool areas have been well designed with comfort in mind such as double bed sun loungers, a wet zone for kids and extra shaded areas with a view for those hot lazy days at sea. MEDITERRANEAN ADVENTURE 7 night fly-cruises aboard Adventure of the Seas CRUISE FROM MALAGA

UNUSUAL 7 NIGHT MED ITINERARY

Bonus upto $100 per cabin on board credit*

The Voyager class ships where revolutionary for their size and amazing variety of things to do on board. These 5 sister ships paved the way for the big selling ships of today such as Independence and Oasis of the Seas. The Adventure of the Seas was the third Voyager class ship to be built and 2010 is the first year she will be based in Europe away from her home port in the Caribbean. The things we love about this ship are: the Royal Promenade mall area where there is a lovely FREE coffee shop / patisserie to sit and watch the world go by or the Dog & Duck British Pub to make you feel at home. The Schooner Bar is a trade mark on the Royal Caribbean ships and attracts a busy crowd. The kids clubs on board and video games arcade are second to none and the adults only atrium pool is excellent. This unusual 7 night itinerary is one of the few which starts from Malaga and gives those of you who would fly from regional airports better direct flight connections. The itinerary is unusual as it includes both Corsica and Sardinia which are somewhat more exotic than the regular ports of call in Spain, France and Italy. ITINERARY: Fly direct from London to Malaga and cruise for 7 nights to Cagliari (Sardinia) • Civitavecchia (Rome) • Ajaccio (Corsica) • Majorca • Malaga. Fly home to London.

For the first time Queen Victoria will not be doing a world cruise this coming Winter season instead there will be the opportunity to join a series of exotic cruises during the Winter through the Panama Canal or Hawaii. These cruises are ideal for those who have not got the time or the money to spare for a long full world cruise but want a 2 week winter cruise holiday to somewhere unusual with the usual Cunard refinements, service & style. During your 2 nights in Los Angeles take time to visit Hollywood walk of Fame, the Chinese Theatre, Beverley Hills and Rodeo Drive. A walk along Venice beach gives you a glimpse an insight to the setting of many films and American TV series. Lesser known Knotts Berry Farm theme park in Anaheim is well worth the time for its roller coasters and wild west theme. For a more local seaside town feel Laguna Beach to the south of Anaheim has some lovely shops and restaurants and is very pleasant to walk around. These cruises save you the extra flying time and jet lag that one would normally have to undertake from Los Angeles to Hawaii. Instead the Queen Victoria takes you there with 4 days of relaxation either side of the Islands. Date 2011 28 Jan 11 15 Feb 11

BRAND NEW LUXURY CRUISE PROGRAMME Measuring 6680km in length, the Nile is the world’s longest river. It brought the nation of Egypt into being and its banks are clustered with the temples and tombs of the country’s illustrious past. Luxor and Aswan are the well-deserved jewels in the crown and few can resist time spent on the water itself.

Discover some of Egypt’s finest ancient monuments and stunning scenery alongside the banks of the Nile and visit the stunning city of Cairo. Whether you’re an adrenaline junkie or a culture vulture a cruise to this destination will have something to satisfy every guest. And with the Luxury Nile Cruise Programme you can enjoy the indulgence of 5-star treatment from start to finish. An ultimate Nile cruise will experience all the sites and sights along the Nile plus Aswan, Lake Nasser and the fabulous temple at Abu Simbel.
THE SHIPS - M/S Sun Ray and M/S Darakum We have travelled to the Nile several times to check out over 120 vessels in a bid to select the most luxurious ships we could find. We feel that these two ships - M/S Sunray and M/S Darakum are the best on the Nile. They are the highest quality and are in keeping with 5 star Deluxe standards that one would expect in Europe. Unfortunately standards in Egypt are much lower than those in Europe and most ships which are supposedly 5 star by Egyptian standards are in reality 3 star by European standards and a big disappointment. Remember you only get what you pay for and in this case you will be receiving the highest quality to exceed expectations. Our ships have 5 decks with comfortable river view ensuite staterooms, a maginificent restaurant (full board), luxurious lounge with bar and disco, mini gym, swimming pool, sun deck, laundry and valet. Las Vegas & Hawaii 18 night fly cruises aboard Golden Princess INCLUDING 3 Nights In Las Vegas

BEST SELLER

Spend Extra nights in Los Angeles from only £35pP extra

Get the most out of your precious holiday time & combine a visit to Las Vegas on the way to your Hawaiian Islands cruise. This was one of our best selling offers last year as it includes 3 nights in Las Vegas on the famous Strip before you cruise. Check out the casinos, headline shows, themed hotels and the shopping. Perhaps even visit the Grand Canyon. Then fly direct to Los Angeles on the morning of your 14 night cruise. For many forty somethings Hawaii initially conjures up images of Magnum PI and red Ferraris. For Fifty somethings Steve Garret and Hawaii Five O are frantically canoeing though the surf, whilst sixty somethings may think of Elvis in his film Blue Hawaii and Rockahula. Most though think of exotic Hula girls, Lei Garlands, swaying palms and magnificent sunsets. Perhaps visit Pearl Harbour and the Arizona monument and take a stroll along Waikiki beach on Oahu. Visit the pineapple plantations of Maui, the Wailua Falls and Nawiliwili harbour of Kauai and a Volcano adventure on the Big Island. Or simply have a Luau – an Hawaiian version of a BBQ but much more colourful and fun!

Don’t forget to ask for early disembarkation! Or ask our sales team about spending extra nights in Los Angeles from only £35pp per night. This is a great opportunity to see the sights such as: Hollywood, Beverley Hills, Rodeo Drive, Venice Beach, Walk of Fame, Chinese Theatre, Disneyland, Knotts Berry Farm and more. Kauai Honolulu
