After a couple of years of being couped up in Australia (I still cannot say the words “locked down”!), it would be fair to say that I have been making up for lost time, visiting clients and partners all over the world, attending exhibitions including LabelExpo in Bangkok in February). The one thing that I have been hearing on every occasion, is “we are understaffed”. How can it be possible that the entire world is suddenly short of staff – printers, prepress, management, sales, warehouse…all of it, there are staff shortages from Frankfurt to Hobart and everywhere in between.

I am repeatedly being told that THIS is stifling their growth, their ability to deliver whatever product or service they intend on delivering and making the profit they expect. In addition, whatever staff are there, seem to be exhausted and simply unable to work creatively due to the amount of work they are doing.

The answer of course, is that we need to focus on automation and efficiency – ‘doing things right the first time’ and doing more with less.

Thankfully, this is a theme that Jet Technologies have been perfecting for many years. Products such as our digital press, the L350UV SAI allow a single operator to do so much more than 2-3 operators could have done in the past. Reliability, repeatability, automation, all of these words are worth so much money to our businesses and yet, they are often forgotten or relegated to a side thought.
