LOVE IN SERVICE

T

hrough the spirit of volunteerism and service, Ryan who lives in General Santos City and Jean who’s from Zamboanga met in Bohol on November 2, 2013 to help out the victims of the 7.2 magnitude earthquake that occurred on the province. Jean was part of Xavier University’s volunteer group headed by Michael Acenas who happened

which is Evangelical Church Alliance that made them closer together. Ryan asked for Jean’s phone number but she declined so he gave her his calling card instead. Patience is a virtue for Ryan as he patiently waited for Jean to give him a call and finally she did. One missed call led to exchanges of text messages, until both of them are back to their respective

to be friends with Bohol priest, Fr. Ron whom Ryan is close friends with. Under the ruins of Bohol’s oldest church Baclayon Church, Ryan and Jean first met. It all started with an introduction and then a conversation where both of them learned that they have the same religion

workplace. After one week of constant texting, the two of them stopped communicating because Jean thought that maybe that was just a fling in Bohol but just as when she thought it was over, they started communicating again.

nd I’d choose you; in a hundred lifetimes, in a hundred worlds, in any version of reality, I’d find you and I’d choose you.”

LOVE IN DISTANCE

D

istance did not prevent Ryan who worked in

Cebu from visiting Jean who also worked in Cagayan de Oro, on March 20, 2014 the two of them became a couple officially. The highlight of their relationship was Ryan who never failed to surprise Jean. As what normal relationship experiences, Ryan and Jean also experienced some heartaches and one of which was Ryan who can’t really show on facebook that he is in a relationship for certain reasons that saddened Jean, so she prayed for him. “Prayer changed him,” Jean said. Ryan changed how he handled their relationship, even if it’s not their monthsary or a special day he sends food to Jean at her work. Due to the distance, they only see each other once or twice in every two months. Maybe fate is with them when Ryan was transferred to General Santos City for work and that made them see each other frequently. For the second time, fate intervened and Ryan was transferred to Davao City which made them see each other easily, what was once an every two months visit became every other two weeks and 7 days was the longest that they were together. Distance may be the biggest hurdle of their relationship but distance was just a number, their love and trust was what that matters.

he real act of marriage takes place in the heart, not in the ballroom or church or synagogue. It’s a choice you make - not just on your wedding day, but over and over again - and that choice is reflected in the way you treat your husband or wife. Barbara de Angelis

I

love you without knowing how, or when, or from where. I love you straightforwardly without complexities abide. I love you because I know no other way then this. So close that your hand, on my chest, is my hand. So close that when you close your eyes, I fall asleep. The movie Patch Adams - 1998

LOVE IN PRAYER

W

hat made their relationship strong and intact was constant communication and prayer. Temptation and jealousy always exists but both of them always prayed together. Never in their relationship that they fought because of third party, and when times that they fought, Ryan always led Jean into a prayer even if it’s just over the phone. Prayer was their foundation and with prayer they remained grounded and humble.

LOVE IN ACTION

J

ean would always say that the sweetest gesture Ryan did was always every time he surprised her. One highlight would be Jean’s 30th Birthday where Ryan organized a party for Jean and gave her a huge teddy bear. Ryan was the kind of guy who’s not used to mingle with other people but he did for Jean’s birthday, he invited all the clusters of Xavier University’s Office of Mission and Ministries which made her love him even more.

LOVE IN FOREVER

A

ugust 10, 2017 – with the help of Jean’s friends and family, Ryan proposed. Jean thought that it would be an event for her best friend’s baby whom she’s a godparent to. They made an alibi that there would be a pictorial for the godparents so Jean could wear a dress. Not knowing that it would be the proposal she’s been waiting for, all of her close friends and family were there. To her surprise, Ryan arrived and with the right time, right place, and right moment, he knelt in front of Jean and said “In front of your mother, siblings, and close friends, will you marry me?” Jean knew in her heart that Ryan would be the one she’ll spend the rest of her life with, so she said yes. That day was a celebration of love and the start of the journey of a lifetime.

LOVE IN A NEW FORM OF LIFE

T

hree weeks before the wedding that was meant to happen on June 22, 2018 Jean found out she was pregnant. She waited for Ryan to come back from Cebu to Cagayan de Oro so that together they’ll see the result of Jean’s pregnancy test. Sadly, it was negative so they went to a doctor to have another pregnancy test and again it was negative. It worried them because it might be something else, therefore they decided to have an ultrasound and there it was their little blip – their baby. The discovery of Jean’s pregnancy brought them both to tears and the excitement of their wedding was overshadowed because they’re now more excited for the arrival of their first child.

GOD’S WRITTEN LOVE STORY

O

n the fourth Friday of June, Ryan and Jean tied the knot and as Jean walked down the aisle, she realized how amazing the ways of the Lord are, despite the distance, two strangers became friends and then lovers and finally they are building their own family. Two strangers met by chance. Two hearts fall in love by choice. Two people separated by distance. Two souls stayed by faith, Finally two stories became one.

H

usbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. After all, no one ever hated his own body, but he feeds and cares for it. For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh. The Holy Bible, Ephesians 5:25-33
