Creating a Quality PDP Workshop Guide For Initial and Professional Educators CESA #9
INTRODUCTION The PDP is a requirement for any educator in Wisconsin who is licensed in a particular category (teacher, administrator, pupil service) for the first time after August 30, 2004. Any educators licensed prior can elect to complete a PDP for licensure. The PDP is based on a self-identified topic for learning, and based on self reflection. The process involves the following: Step 1: Self Reflect Step 2: Create the Plan -self assess using the checklist items -convene a team and submit for approval (IEs only) - begin implementing the plan Step 3: Document Annual Reviews of PDP -make any edits to objectives activities, timeline, collaboration -document any activity completion date(s) -summarize growth, student impact, collaboration, changes to plan -self assess using the checklist items Step 4: Final Verification -document any activity completion date(s) -compose summaries of growth, student impact, collaboration -provide 3-5 pieces of evidence and explanations -self assess using the checklist items -convene a team and submit for final verification -electronically submit Verification Signature Form to DPI through a PDP Service Provider and apply for new license
The first year of regular employment may be a year of self reflection, or, an educator can begin the PDP process. Both Initial Educators (IE) and Professional Educators (PE) may complete a PDP in 3 years, 4 years, or 5 years. IEs must have the PDP approved before implementing. All educators are required to complete an Annual Review, all years of the PDP, except the first and the last. Initial Educators must apply for the Professional Educator license as soon as the PDP is complete, even if it is sooner than the license expiration date. Professional Educators must apply for license renewal in the year the license expires, regardless of when the PDP was completed. Consider using one of the following charts to map out the PDP term for your license:
