600 contact watchdog over Labour hate Party’s Jewish affiliate launched monitoring centre two weeks ago A new monitoring centre set up to keep track of antisemitism in the Labour Party has received more than 600 reports in its first two weeks, writes Adam Decker. The initiative, launched by the Jewish Labour Movement (JLM), to help better report incidences of hate, calls on members and those who have left the party to share their experiences of anti-Jewish racism, to build a more accurate picture of the nature and extent of the issue. Those wishing to make submissions can do so until 26 October through an online form at jlm.org.uk/asmonitoring. Ella Rose, JLM’s national director, told Jewish News: “Throughout the past three years, the JLM has engaged with the Labour Party to try to solve the severe and ongoing crisis of Labour antisemitism. dragged on because that was politically easier. “When members share their experiences of antisemitism within Labour, they are enabling JLM to build a clear picture of what is happening within all parts of the party.” This comes after three years of Jeremy Corbyn’s leadership, during which there have been a string of allegations of antisemitism against Labour members and supporters. Some of Corbyn’s supporters have accused those making claims of ‘weaponising’ antisemitism to attack him. Amid allegations, which have resulted in suspensions and expulsions, the JLM and other community groups have met with senior party figures, including Corbyn, John McDonnell and General Secretary Jennie Formby, to try to resolve the crisis.
