Jewish Federation
impact
report
Thank you for all you’ve done to save, inspire, empower, transform and connect lives. Your generosity, leadership and volunteerism to Jewish Federation of Palm Beach County this year enabled us to lead a powerful response to the growing needs of our community – today and tomorrow. This year, we’ve seen record participation in community programs and events, outspoken support for Jewish causes, and unprecedented generosity to Federation. In the face of adversity in the national and global Jewish communities, we are increasingly inspired by your unwavering commitment to Jewish causes and to one another. Your passion and involvement continue to be integral to the success and vitality of our community. We’ve taken exciting new steps to increase opportunities for you to volunteer, lead and advocate. We are evolving our approach to connect you to Jewish life in ways that are relevant, meaningful and powerful. When a community acts together, we create impact together. That’s how we will continue building a safe, welcoming and vibrant Jewish community in the Palm Beaches, Israel and 70 countries across the globe. Thank you for your work and commitment to saving, inspiring, empowering, transforming and connecting thousands of lives. Sincerely,
Ray Golden Board Chair

Jewish Federation
inspires
lives
This year, you enabled us to inspire lives by creating experiences that make a positive difference and reflect Jewish values.
one way we
inspired lives: 1,000 community members joined together for high-impact service projects through Federation’s new Jewish Volunteer Center. On Martin Luther King Jr. Day and Good Deeds Day, dedicated community members worked to beautify the Boys & Girls Club, prepare meals for the homeless, and other projects. The projects were sponsored by OneWorld: Davis Family Tolerance Project, Federation’s community-wide effort promoting the Jewish value of chesed (“kindness”).
what’s next More children in the Palm Beaches are connecting to Jewish values and education. Through the new PJ Our Way™ program, implemented by our partners at Friedman Commission for Jewish Education, we are expanding the groundbreaking PJ Library® program that has delivered more than 100,000 Jewish books to young families in the Palm Beaches. PJ Our Way™ is a digital platform for kids ages 9 to 11 to choose Jewish books to read based on their interests and reading levels. The program is free to families – ensuring a relevant, accessible Jewish values-based education in our community.
Emma is building a powerful connection to her Jewish identity through Federation’s scholarships.
As a child, Emma’s family benefited from Jewish Right Start™ incentives that enabled her to attend Jewish pre-school. Next summer, Emma will participate in Jewish overnight camp in Central Florida with help from Federation’s camp scholarships. As she gets older, she looks forward to enjoying an immersive Israel experience with other teens, which Federation will help her family ensure.
Jewish Federation
saves
lives
This year, you enabled us to save lives by protecting and caring for those who are at risk.
Abe, a Holocaust survivor and widower who lives in Boynton Beach, is one of thousands
one way we
saved lives: 9,000 children, families and seniors caught in the crossfire of the conflict in Ukraine are receiving critical aid during an escalation in fighting over the past year. Our global partners the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC) and The Jewish Agency for Israel are leading a humanitarian response by providing food, clothing, medicine, financial assistance and connections to Jewish life for Ukraine’s Jewish community.
of survivors in the Palm Beaches living with dignity thanks to weekly deliveries of kosher meals directly to his door through Federation’s partner Kramer Senior Services, a subsidiary of MorseLife Health System. In addition, Abe enjoys regular companionship with his caretaker, who is learning to be more respectful of the many unique sensitivities and nuances of caring for Holocaust survivors through a new initiative with Alpert Jewish Family & Children’s Service (AJFCS). Much of this work was made possible through Federation’s efforts with AJFCS to secure special grant funding to care for the estimated 12,000 survivors in the Palm Beaches.
what’s next Every community member now has the opportunity to take part in our efforts to care for the vulnerable and make a difference. Federation’s Jewish Volunteer Center offers a variety of hands-on experiences to participate in the impact we create together in both the Jewish and broader communities. Get started at jewishpalmbeach.org/volunteer.
Jewish Federation
empowers lives
This year, you enabled us to empower lives by equipping members of our community with the tools to stand up for the causes they believe in.
one way we
empowered lives: 1,000 young Jewish leaders are taking the reins in St. Petersburg, Russia – where Jewish life was once nearly wiped out. We are leading programs with our global partners the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC) and The Jewish Agency for Israel to equip the next generation with the expertise and resources to create inspiring, welcoming and vibrant connections to Jewish life.
what’s next 19 young leaders in the Palm Beaches are now taking part in the sixth cohort of Federation’s Emerging Leadership Program (ELP), a 16-month leadership development track focused on educating and empowering the next generation of our local Jewish community. In October 2017, ELP participants and alumni will take part in a unique Israel experience, joining together to develop their leadership on a global level. They’ll spend time with their Israeli counterparts – young leaders in Federation’s Partnership 2Gether region who take part in ELP-Israel. Learn more how you can take the lead in our community at jewishpalmbeach.org/lead.
Chelsea, a high school student in Wellington, is now
a dedicated advocate and leader of her Jewish community. This past year, Chelsea traveled with Federation’s Project Tikvah to Charleston, SC, where she and other teens provided aid to those affected by recent storms and racially motivated attacks. She also took part in IsraelTalks, Federation’s new series dedicated to providing students with the tools to stand up to anti-Semitism and anti-Israel activity. In college, she’ll work with Federation’s partners at Hillel to continue her advocacy and leadership on campus.

Jewish Federation
transforms lives
This year, you enabled us to transform lives by improving quality of life and strengthening Jewish identity.
one way we
transformed lives: 200 children, teens and adults with disabilities enjoyed expanded opportunities in the Jewish community. Through our community’s new initiatives, Federation is working with our partners to provide a growing variety of welcoming, inclusive Jewish community experiences for people with disabilities.
The Strauss family in Paris, France, is connecting to their Jewish community in a safe, welcoming environment. In light of increased anti-Semitic activity across Europe, Federation’s global partners are leading safety and security efforts to ensure access to Jewish life. The family recently joined 1,000 other French Jews for the country’s largest Aliyah fair, coordinated by our partner The Jewish Agency for Israel to teach French Jews about options and opportunities available to them in Israel.
what’s next We are putting at-risk youth on a new path to success in our community’s Partnership 2Gether region in Israel, TZAHAR (Tzfat, Hazor HaGlilit and Rosh Pina). We are equipping disadvantaged children and teens with technology training that they otherwise would not have access to – opening up new opportunities for them as they enter higher education and the workforce.
Jewish Federation
connects lives
This year, you enabled us to connect lives by offering meaningful opportunities to engage in Jewish life and with each other.
one way we
connected lives: Thousands of people joined together for Federation’s reimagined IsraelDays: A Festival of Arts & Culture. The festival highlighted Israeli culture and history through an Israeli film series, Israeli art and photo exhibits, author and book events, and intimate discussions with Holocaust survivors.
what’s next Israel Your Way, Federation’s community mission to Israel in summer of 2018, is offering every community member the opportunity to experience Israeli life while connecting with likeminded individuals. Five unique, immersive tracks will explore various aspects of the Jewish homeland – including technology and innovation; arts, culture and cuisine; and more. Learn more about the tracks and the trip at israelyourway.org.
Ben, a retired attorney living in Palm Beach Gardens, is connecting with like-minded people in
meaningful, relevant ways. Ben has been attending several enlightening Jewish community programs made possible through B3/The Palm Beach Jewish Boomer Platform, a recipient of Federation’s Innovation Fund grant. Programs include a unique new speaker series at Temple Israel and a social action-oriented film series through Mandel JCC’s Jewish Film Festival.
