Thank you for supporting Arts and Culture in Kansas City!
Welcome to KCAC’s 40th Annual Benefit Art Auction.
For the last 40 years, the Kansas City Artists Coalition’s Art Auction has been the preeminent event for artists and art collectors of all levels to gather for a night of community, fun, and most importantly, fundraising. We continue to be humbled by and grateful for the contributions from our participating artists and membership, the amazing sponsors, and volunteers that help make this event happen. You inspire us to shape and invest in an evolving Kansas City arts community.
We believe art is essential and know that the Kansas City Artists Coalition has contributed greatly to the vitality of arts and culture in our community for more than 47 years. Supporting the arts is important to ensure the continued development and growth of our city.
All of tonight’s proceeds will fund the Kansas City Artists Coalition’s operations, gallery exhibitions, and programming, which helps support the arts in our community. The KCAC supports and elevates artists with affordable artist studios, exhibition opportunities, professional development courses, community programming, membership, and engagement. It is an inclusive organization that supports artists at every level of their career.
On behalf of the KCAC Board and team - we want to thank you for your continued support of KCAC, the Annual Art Auction, and the artists we serve.
We encourage you to give and bid generously - Let’s get bidding!

Susie and Tom Corbin believe strongly in giving back to the Kansas City community and especially in supporting organizations such as KCAC who in turn support the work and lives of KC artists. As a bronze sculptor, Tom Corbin has numerous public works on display across KC with his greater body of work being represented by designer showrooms internationally. Most recently, his monumental sculpture of President Harry Truman was installed in the Rotunda of the U.S. Capitol. Tom spends his creative time sculpting both figures and nonobjective themes, designing bronze furnishings and painting.
There are so many stories to tell through art!! As avid art collectors, art lovers and art supporters, the Corbins treasure the works they have won at the KCAC auctions. Tom and Susie have been involved with the Coalition since the very beginning and look forward to sharing more of their art journey with the KCAC community as the honorary chairs for the 2023 Art Auction.
“We are so grateful for the strong support we have received over 35 years from our Kansas City collectors, friends and the community. Giving back is important to us and the KCAC has been a constant friend and resource since the very beginning of my career. The works we have collected from local artists make up the majority of our art collection and we are so proud to tell the stories from this amazing stable of artists.” ~
Tom CorbinHarold Smith is a self-taught artist who has dedicated himself to his studio practice while also teaching in the Kansas City Public School system. A little more than a year ago, Harold was able to retire from his career as an educator and transition his entire focus and dedication to his studio practice. Upon which, he has been deservedly recognized with multiple awards and opportunities; such as a three-year residency at Studios Inc, a Charlotte Street Foundation Fellowship, a Pollock-Krasner award, a MacDowell Residency, and most recently a residency at Art Omi in New York.
Harold is engaged and works to uplift others artists in the community through mentorship, teaching, and providing visibility. Harold is a regular contributor to KC Studio Magazine and teaches Art History courses at KCAC. He is an artist that seeks growth and understanding through continued learning, travel, and studio investigation. His concepts are rooted in genuine investigation and the honsesty of personal experience.
Harold embodies the spirit of the Kansas City Artists Coalition and KCAC is proud to recognize Harold Smith as the 2023 Honorary Artist due to his talent, grace, humility, relevance, and commitment to the KC art community.
Every day at AdventHealth, we look for new ways to give back to the community we love. That’s why AdventHealth reinvests more than $200 MILLION back into the Kansas City community each year. Because caring for the whole you – body, mind and spirit – is what matters most.
Hugh Merrill was an artist, educator, poet, activist, and supporter of the Kansas City Artists Coalition. Hugh passed away in the fall of 2022. He was a long-time professor at the Kansas City Art Institute who taught foundations, printmaking, and community engagement. Hugh was a dynamic and challenging instructor who introduced many students to the concept of an art practice rooted in community engagement.
Those that knew Hugh intimately understood that he was an imperfect, multi-faceted, passionate and complex individual that had a profound impact on the Kansas City community.
“Often our creative expressions mirror the unbalanced world we travel through. When asked what my work is about, I often shrug and say, ‘Drawing.’ The reality is too much to consider in mere conversation.” ~ Hugh Merrill

By registering for this Auction you agree to be bound by these terms and conditions. Personal information will be treated in accordance with the Snowball Privacy Policy. The Kansas City Artists Coalition (KCAC) confirms that it has the legal right to auction the Lots offered in the Auction. The Auction is open only to people aged 18 or over, who unconditionally agree to be bound by the laws of applicable legal jurisdictions under United States Federal and State courts. All bids are final and binding. Bidder is responsible for any bid made in error. Bids can only be removed or updated by KCAC. If a bid is made in error, the Bidder must immediately contact KCAC. KCAC in its sole discretion may change a bid made in error but has no obligation to do so. In no event will a bid made in error be changed after the Auction has closed. Bids must be in US Dollars and be received by KCAC by the closing date and time indicated on the Auction by KCAC. All winning bids must be above the minimum or reserve price identified in the Auction for the item unless waived by KCAC. A bid is a legal commitment to make a payment. A successful Bidder will be notified by email and/ or text message and is obligated to make payment at that time. Incomplete, late, unreceived bids, and bids below the reserve price will not be accepted. The successful bid for any single Lot will be the highest bid received by the closing date and time for the Auction. In the event that two or more bids equal the highest bid, the Lot shall be awarded to the bid received first. KCAC reserves the right to extend or restart the Auction in situations where it is not feasible for other Bidders to respond with counter bids. Successful Bidders must make payment for the relevant Lot using a method determined by KCAC. In the event of KCAC is unable to contact a winning Bidder within five days of the closing of the auction, or of the payment not being received within five days of a winning Bidder being notified, KCAC reserves the right to award the Lot to the next highest Bidder. BIDDERS IN THIS AUCTION HEREBY GRANT KCAC PERMISSION TO PUBLISH THEIR FULL NAME AND CITY LOCATION IN THE EVENT THEY FAIL TO PAY FOR A WINNING BID. KCAC reserves the right to carry on awarding the Lot to the next highest Bidder until the reserve is reached. Alternatively KCAC reserves the right to relist the item in another Auction. Refunds on payments are the responsibility of KCAC. Snowball and KCAC each reserves the right to exclude a Bidder from auctions or other donations. KCAC reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to withdraw the Lot from the auction. The Lots as described are available on the date of publication and are subject to availability. Lots are not transferable and there are no cash alternatives. KCAC and Snowball are not responsible for additional expenses related to the Lot. All Lot descriptions are provided by KCAC and, as such, Snowball takes no responsibility whatsoever for the accuracy of descriptions. It is the responsibility of the Bidder to check with KCAC for any details or descriptions of any Lot. KCAC reserves the right to change, alter or remove any description or Lot from the
Auction at any time. Events may occur that render an Auction itself impossible due to reasons beyond KCAC’s or Snowball’s control. Accordingly, KCAC or Snowball may, at its discretion, vary or amend the Auction and all parties including the Bidder agree that no liability shall attach to KCAC or Snowball as a result thereof. KCAC will run the auction in a fair and consistent manner; however, for the avoidance of doubt, KCAC’s decision is final and for any bid to be counted must be received by KCAC before the close of the Auction. It is the responsibility of the Bidder to ensure a bid is timely received.
NEITHER SNOWBALL NOR KCAC GUARANTEES THAT THE AUCTION PLATFORM, TECHNOLOGY, WEBSITE OR ANY RELATED SERVICES WILL MEET BIDDER’S REQUIREMENTS OR BE UNINTERRUPTED OR ERRORFREE. KCAC SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR INTERUPTIONS OR ERRORS IN THE SNOWBALL PLATFORM, TECHNOLOGY, WEBSITE OR RELATED SERVICES, HUMAN ERROR, INTERNET SYSTEM FAILURES, OR ANY OTHER FACTORS THAT MAY RESULT IN MISSED BIDS OR OTHER ERRORS.
All taxes, other governmental charges or any other fees associated with KCAC’s auction or the winning bid will be the responsibility of the Bidder. Bidders should consult a tax adviser if there are any questions related to tax impacts of a bid. Snowball is not responsible for shipping, delivery and/or maintenance of an auction Lot. Snowball is not responsible for determining the fair market value of any Auction Lot. Snowball will provide receipts for payments of winning bids to those Bidders that process their payment with Snowball. Snowball cannot provide receipts for cash or checks sent to KCAC directly. Snowball reserves the right to remove Auctions or Lots or to redact or place a hold on an Auction or on individual Lots at any time. Snowball is a technology portal only and is not acting as an auctioneer. Snowball’s role is to report on bids to KCAC. Snowball is not involved in the actual transaction between KCAC and Bidder, and, as such, Snowball has no control over the quality, the accuracy of the listings, safety or legality of the items advertised, the ability or right of KCAC to auction an item or the ability of a Bidder to make the payment required to acquire the Lot. Therefore, Snowball cannot guarantee that two parties will actually complete a transaction. The role of auctioneer is the responsibility of KCAC. KCAC and Bidder agree to indemnify and hold harmless Snowball, its contractors, and its licensors, and their respective directors, officers, employees and agents from and against any and all claims and expenses, including attorneys’ fees, arising out of their use of the Snowball site or application.
