Preface
Preface
In 2020, the world was rocked by a virus known as COVID-19. The World Health Organization declared this disease a pandemic because of its high infection rate and danger to the general public. Countries around the world acted accordingly to secure the safety of their citizens; South Korea responded quickly and worked to contain the disease. On Monday, February 24th, the Asia Pacific International School Seoul Campus chose to close its doors at the recommendation of the Seoul Ministry of Education and asked the APIS community to conduct their classwork virtually. This brought many new challenges to APIS classrooms and student organizations, including the 2019-2020 Yearbook Staff. This book is the product of their hard work and dedication through this challenging time.

Director
Dr. Euysung Kim Fighting the good fight! We will always remember 2020 in our APIS history with the COVID-19 pandemic whose impact is still unfolding on an unprecedented scale. Tens of thousand people around the world have lost their lives and the economic devastation has cripled the welfare of millions. Without a vaccine or cure at hand, the uncertainty of if and when this pandemic will end looms heavily on everyone’s mind. Despite advances in technology and science, we are reminded yet again that it is foolish to think the human race has a full control over our fate. In fact, the advancement in technology and transportation has actually increased our vulnerability. It is a sobering realization that an infectious disease anywhere around the world can reach Seoul within a day. We need to be humbled by this reminder and work together toward preserving our world against threats such as not only global pandemics but also against so many other threats such as pollution, global warming, nuclear disasters and hunger, to name just a few. The year 2020 was the first time in my life that we celebrated Easter through distance worship. Yet, the Easter celebration this year was spiritually most empowering for me because I was reminded that we who believe in the hope of Resurrection, are always ready to fight the good fight (which also is the theme of this Year’s yearbook) against any earthly challenges. Despite the enormity of tragedies brought on by this pandemic, I feel inspired by the outpouring of selfless care for one another I witnessed in our community. Our teachers rose above and beyond to implement new instructional approaches, time tables, and platforms to meet the needs of our students and parents. Our students stepped up as well. An APIS Middle School student and her brother raised money for a hospital in Daegu. A High School student suggested that money they had raised for the APIS Prom be donated to efforts to fight the pandemic. The “Sunshine Project” initiated by our High School Advisory students inspired projects such as donating masks to the needy and making thank you videos to the faculty for their hard work. These are just some of the examples. Throughout this pandemic, the APIS community members have served as a testament to the human spirit, so amazingly robust and hopeful. I believe more than ever that the love and care we feel from one another is truly what makes us a community. I want to say thank God and thank you all for the privilege of being a part of the APIS community. Let’s fight the good fight!

Every once in a while, our lives are shaken up in a way that causes us to pause and reflect. The 2019-2020 school year has certainly been one of those times and as the school year comes to an end, the yearbook captures both the big moments and the tiny memories that have meant so much in our lives through the year. It is hard to believe that we are twenty years into the 2000’s at a time in which my childhood self believed we would all be driving flying cars! Although our technology isn’t quite that advanced, I am amazed at the world around us and in how far we have come. We are a more globally connected society, full of creativity and ingenuity, with an increasing awareness of how best to take care of the people around us and the environment that sustains us. In the years ahead, you will be the leaders who help to expand on these advancements with your innovation and ideas. Please keep the moments in this yearbook with you as you grow and reach for your goals in the future. Let them serve as a reminder of the importance of community, family, love, and faith so that you don’t forget what is most important in life. In a year marked by change and challenge, our students are now more prepared than ever to tackle the unknowns of the future. We have all been pushed out of our normal routines and comfort zones. Through virtual classes, socially distanced celebrations, and kindness projects to encourage our community during a time of struggle, we have all learned to become more flexible and resilient. With trials come opportunities to embrace change and grow together as a community which is exactly what I have seen you do this year. As things slowly begin to return to ‘normal’ after the Covid 19 crisis, I encourage you to reflect on what has been most important to you through this time. Although our lives have looked different that we had imagined, we have valued relationships, health, community, faith, and care for others. Please let your reflections of the 2019-2020 school year help you find gratitude for these things and let that guide your future in the years ahead. As we emerge from the challenges this year, we might just find that we are stronger, have new perspectives and priorities, and are full of gratitude for each new day. Enjoy this yearbook full of beautiful memories and build on them as you continue to adventure out into the world to make your mark.

This has been an unforgettable year for everyone. None of us were prepared for the global pandemic of COVID-19 and how it has affected people all over the world, both near and afar. I still remember back in February when we had to make the emergency call to close the school campus and transitioned into digital learning. So many changes and unknowns were ahead of us as we were exposed to sad news from all around the world. From the beginning, however, APIS had two priorities: the health and safety of our school community and the continuity of the rigor of learning through digital means. Surely this was a time to think outside the box, be creative, be collaborative and solve problems as this pandemic influenced all of our lives. It seemed like the skills we were teaching our students at school would now be even more important in our daily lives, no matter what our ages are. Our students had to adapt to the new way of learning. Our teachers had to plan and teach virtually and very differently with the same academic rigor. Our parents had to find ways to support their child(ren)’s learning from home, on top of all of their other increased responsibilities. Nevertheless, I am truly grateful for our APIS community for uniting together to make the best of this emergency crisis, transforming it into an opportunity to shine. Thank you for aspiring and doing your best, even on a digital learning platform! Thank you for persevering and not giving up, even when there were barriers and obstacles along the way! Thank you for showing your integrity, especially during this stressful time and making your best character shine through! Thank you for being selfless and showing kindness to others with love. It didn’t take too much time for me to realize that I don’t have much control over the coronavirus situation. In my weakness I have called out to Jesus, our Lord. I have prayed Psalm 91 daily during this time for God’s divine protection over us. Even though for weeks and weeks we were physically apart, I knew deep in my spirit that our God is watching over us. I want to leave this message with you, as sometimes life is not going to be easy. However, no matter what, God loves you and he will always be there for you when you seek him. This is the life lesson I want to leave with you for the 2019-2020 school year. We made it!

New Student Orientation
New Student Orientation
To kickstart the year, new students were invited to school before classes began so they could hear an overview of the comming year and a chance to meet their teachers. Students in the National Honor Society and the Student Representative Council toured their new peers around the building and helped familiarize them with their schedules.
17
Back to School Night
Back to School Night
18
Do you recall your first weeks back at school? At Back to School Night, teachers, students, and their families came together to discuss their first experiences returning to or joining APIS. It was an opportunity to meet new faces, connect with other families, warm up to the APIS community, and grasp a better understanding of our curriculum.
19
Volleyball Pep Rally
Volleyball Pep Rally
20
Our Girls and Boys Volleyball teams spiked their way into the first season of KAIAC Varsity Sports. At the pep rally, students and faculty celebrated our high school players with games, prizes, and good cheer, finishing off the week on the edge of their seats watching the intense home game against GSIS. Great job, Hawks!

Carnival
Carnival

The annual Fall Carnival is just one of the many school-wide events that students look forward to. It’s an exciting change from being in a classroom all day: popcorn, cotton candy, colorful hairspray, water gun fights, and endless games in the sun at booths organized by the Student Representative Council! The event was divided into three periods for Elementary, Middle, and High school. Despite it being held early on in the year, students were able to bond and become familiar with one another. Everyone went home soaking wet, full of sugar, and with giant smiles on their faces.

Spirit Week
Spirit Week
26
Imagine every day of the week you could come to school dressed in a crazy outfit. During this year’s Spirit Week, each day called for a different theme; students dressed according to their own interpretations of the theme – drowsing in comfy pajamas on one day, embodying the trends of their favorite decade on another. The more outfits, the merrier! Upon being asked what they value about school, students fondly commented on school-wide activities, cherished relationships within the school community, and friendly faculty members. The Greenhawk energy flourished throughout the building as all of APIS dressed in fun costumes and colors that created an all-themore lively atmosphere.
27
HS Retreat
HS Retreat
This year, the annual HS Fall Retreat took place over a course of two days. On the first, students enjoyed a full day of out-of-this-world physical activity at Sports Monster in Goyang and Hanam. With a combination of team-building activities as well as plenty of fun time to spend with friends, they let all tensions go as they bounced on trampolines, played basketball, and clambered on obstacle courses. The second day was composed of activities designed to help students take a break and practice mindfulness, followed by playfully competitive advisory games that strengthened the bonds within our APIS community.
28
HS Drama
HS Drama
This year, the APIS Drama Club presented A Christmas Carol, Charles Dickens’ tale of Ebenezer Scrooge, the grumpy miser who discovers the true meaning of Christmas. Directed by Pastor Danny Hwang, the talented actors became one with their characters on the beautifully set stage to deliver a performance that touched the hearts of the audience, just in time for the holidays.
29
ES Concert
ES Concert
The Elementary Music Concert featured each grade level performing their own versions of popular Christmas songs, such as Jingle Bells, Up On the Housetop, Feliz Navidad, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and Carol of the Bells. The fifth-grade beginning orchestra also performed several songs, and grades K-2 and 3-5 performed together in their Orffestra performances. In the end, the entire Elementary School performed, “Away in a Manger with singing and sign language, accompanied by Pastor Danny Hwang on the guitar and fourth-grader Noah Lim on the violin. The students were absolutely wonderful, and made their parents and teachers very proud!
30
HS Concert
HS Concert
The High School music department compiled a series of compositions to play for the APIS community, including soft, cozy carols, unique renditions of traditional holiday songs, and majestic performances of familiar Christmas tunes. The concert ended with the annual “Joy to the World performance by the faculty and all music students, wrapping up the year with a warm and joyful memory.

Basketball Pep Rally
Basketball Pep Rally

The basketball teams this year were composed of many senior players as well as newly joining players. Playing in front of a crowd is always such an honor! The teams felt really supported by the High School body as they gave players extra energy for a next-level performance. Basketball is one of the APIS students’ and faculty’s favorite sports, so they are eager to cheer the teams on. In return, players are always happy to play and show them new skills they have learned from their amazing coaches.

The world faced an unfortunate pandemic that required students, faculty, and families to prioritize their health in the safety of their homes, just like the rest of the country and much of the world. But the school closure only further proved the flexibility and positivity of the APIS community. In this age of developed technology, students and teachers were able to connect with each other through Google Meets, Zoom, and good old-fashioned email. With hard work, everyone adjusted quickly to this unfamiliar territory of learning and made the most out of the situation.
Congatulations Class of 2020! Despite the struggles and challenges that our school faced during school closure, the Class of 2020 kept their heads up (and their masks on) and continued to work hard. We as an APIS community are so proud of our seniors and celebrate them during this momentous time in their lives! Congratulations Class of 2020!

Anna Kwon Frankl I don’t have much to say. I originally thought we were getting the opportunity to write a short senior quote (I had planned to write “How would you like your society governed? Rare, medium, or welldone?”), not a whole paragraph’s worth of words. So here’s just a piece of advice I hope whoever reads this finds useful: you’re here to have a good time, not to please every single person around you. Don’t overthink things. It’s going to save you a lot of stress.

Graduating from high school is just the start of my journey in life. From the moment I stepped onto APIS, I knew that it would be a wild and wacky ride. I’ve made so many memorable memories with friends, teachers, and the APIS community. The three years I spent at APIS is something that I will never forget. I will remember both the wonderful moments and unpleasant experiences. I look back on all the hours I spent studying but also all the exciting events. What else can I say about APIS? I laughed. I cried. It was fun. I’m going to remember every second I spent at APIS. To my fellow seniors, let’s go out with a bang. To the underclassmen, you’ll know what it’s like to be here soon. Enjoy your time. To the teachers, if I made any mistakes on this just give me some slack but more importantly thank you for all you’ve done. To my mom and dad, I’m grateful for everything you’ve done for me. Thank you! Peace out!
Jiewan Hong Dear Mom and Dad, Thank you, thank you, AND thank you! I could never thank you enough for the amount of love and support you’ve given me throughout the 18 years of my life. Love you so much! And to all my friends out there, It was a fun journey y’all. It’s been real :)

“Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths”(Proverbs 3: 5-6) I never quite expected my time at APIS to end like this but it sure has been a heck of a ride. I’ll miss climbing up 5 floors from B1 to go to the gym at lunch, warming up in the freezing cold on the field, waiting (and never cutting lines) the cafeteria, slouching in the classrooms, eating after practice at Save Zone and riding the subway back home from Hagye, and even aimlessly sitting in the smelly locker room after practice, all tired and worn out. I loved my time here at APIS and it’s honestly been the best years of my life. I’ll miss being a Greenhawk on the court and field with #13 and #1 on my back! It has been a long 6 years at APIS for me. Almost every year, there has been a special memory for me. Especially the GCP to Telunas in 6th grade, going to Hawaii in 8th grade, the retreat I went with my advisory in 10th grade. Those memories wouldn’t happen without my parents, teachers, and friends. I would like to thank all of them, especially my family and teachers for giving me those opportunities and supporting me always. Oh, and my number 1 team Kia Tigers for giving me some special baseball memories, especially winning the Korean Series 3 years ago. Thank you, Class of 2020, teachers, and family.

Hi Mom, It seemed like it was just yesterday when I nervously walked up the steps to APIS two years ago. All the experiences I’ve had, good and bad, allowed me to grow into who I am today. No matter how much I messed up and disappointed you, you still put me before yourself no matter what. I’m graduating now, and I could not have gotten here without you. Yesterday, I dreamed of tomorrow. Today, I reminisce yesterday. Thank you, teachers and friends, for the entertaining time at APIS.

Although this is my first and last year at APIS, I am grateful to the APIS community for an unforgettable senior year. Despite being the only new senior, I was able to quickly adapt to the school due to the warm welcome from classmates, teachers, and faculty members. Senior year was academically challenging. However, I was able to cope through those hard times from guidance of teachers who served as my mentors and the support of my friends. Even though my friends and I first met last August, I sincerely cherish the invaluable memories we share from the past year. Lastly, I am grateful for my family, especially my mother and father, for their unconditional care and love that I have received. The past two years spent with my family allowed me to grow as a person, which made me to reevaluate the value of my family. Thank you APIS for an amazing last year of high school: it would be impossible without the presence of these people that I appreciate.

Serena Shim I am simply amazed by the fact that I am finally graduating APIS. Just three years ago, I first stepped onto the grounds of APIS as a sophomore, but now I am graduating as part of the Senior Class of 2020. My time as part of the APIS community has been full of both bliss and angst. I will forever remember my memories at APIS, each and every moment I spent, including having fun with my friends as well as crying over test results. It has been such a blessing to be part of the APIS community for 3 years and I hope to take on my happy memories at APIS with me as I move on to college.

Like all team sports, volleyball is one in which tightly-knit teamwork is clearly visible on the court. As the first KAIAC season of each year, it begins from the middle of August and ends at the start of November. The Boys team enjoyed an outstanding season as well, displaying great team skill and persistence. With captains Sooyoon Hwang (Grade 12) and Jay Hong (Grade 12), they proudly stood third place in the season with five outstanding wins, solidifying their places as champion players.
Shunsuke Shunzuki (Grade 10) is passionate about volleyball, and said the new relationships he formed with his fellow players of different grade levels contributed significantly to an enjoyable season.

Volleyball was the first sport of the year, so the Hawks were unsurprisingly excited. Our heroic players of the season had set solid goals for themselves and their team. This year, The volleyball Ladyhawks were led by captains Joan Suh (Grade 12) and Nahyun Lee (Grade 12), who pushed the girls to test their limits and strengthened the sisterly bonds among the players on and off the court. The team spent the season powering through their games and finished strong with their tournament, all the while never failing to lose their vigor. Nahyun Lee (Grade 12), co-captain of the girls team, wanted to make sure she made solid passes in games – but most of all, have fun! Joan Suh (Grade 12), also co-captain, aimed to play with confidence. And now that volleyball is over for the year, she’d like to sustain the valuable strong bonds she created with her teammates throughout the season.
The rookies performed exceptionally throughout the season and brought great achievements to the team, taking away more than just improved volleyball skills. To Rayna Hong (Grade 9) of the Girls team, getting to know the older teammates was her favorite part of the season, and she felt that volleyball helped her adjust to her first year at APIS.

Basketball season, taking place from the beginning of November to mid-December, is well anticipated by the students and faculty, as the quick movements and intensity of the sport draw in the players and audience. Basketball is the only KAIAC sport in which APIS participates that has both Varsity and Junior Varsity teams. The Boys Varsity team reaped an amazing season thanks to the passion, skills, and team coordination that they employed to the greatest extent in every game. They amassed a total of 5 well-deserved wins, led by captains Sooyoon Hwang (Grade 12) and Bryan Jung (Grade 11). The players’ joint efforts and commitment on the court prompted lots of applause and wowed fans on the sidelines at every game.
This year, due to the coronavirus outbreak, the end-of-season KAIAC tournaments were canceled for the safety of participating students and supervisors. Sooyoon Hwang (Grade 12) expressed his remorse for this unfortunate outcome, especially because he truly believed his team could have won. The fact that this was his last season didn’t help. But despite that, the effort he put into his basketball experience, along with the good times with the boys, did not fail him: “As I’ve played four years of Varsity Basketball, I’m proud to say that this is the happiest I’ve been on the team.” Though this unexpected turn of events is truly a disappointment, you can bet the boys and girls will be ready to bite back next season!

The Girls Varsity team confidently dribbled, passed, and swished through their games, ending with two strong wins. They never lost their ambition and positive spirit, which were also instilled in them by the strong leadership of their two captains, Jiwon Bae (Grade 12) and Mei-Mei Timpson (Grade 12), with great help from the other two seniors on the team, Joan Suh (Grade 12) and Nahyun Lee (Grade 12). With more than half of both teams playing on Varsity for the first time, this could have been a rough season to pull through. However, thanks to their steadfast efforts, dedication to the sport, and the support of their coaches and seniors, it played out to be a great year overall.
For Joan Kim (Grade 11), the family-like bonds that defined the team made her look forward to practice at the end of a long school day. Her time as a Varsity player proved to be a rewarding experience, as she remarked, “Getting on the team and playing with these players inspired me to grow as well, and at the end of the season, I was happy that I tried out and sad that the season ended.

The Junior Varsity team was a powerhouse this year. Intense practices and in-game energy proved effective, as they ended the season with three amazing wins. Though undecided on a captain, they were still able to exhibit great performance and formulate a team identity that served as part of the fire that fueled their basketball experience this season. Both new and returning players were ambitious for the season ahead, with their minds set on greater improvement. Sam Lee (Grade 10) was anxious at first about how well the team would come together on the court since they had never played with each other in games before. He was also slightly disappointed with their turnout in the tournament.
“We could have won against [the teams] easily, but there were injuries and miscommunication, which led to our loss,” he recalls. But his concerns were removed in the end, as he thought that overall, they “went through the season well”. Them maintaining an aspiring mindset in spite of their setbacks is admirable, and it drove them to confidently end the year with wiser knowledge to take on next season with.

This season was significant for the Junior Varsity Ladyhawks. Their young team faced a challenge playing against experienced opponents, with only a few girls having deeper basketball involvement prior to the season. But their determination produced stellar results. Though they weren’t able to put illustrious numbers on the scoreboard at the end of their games, they saw phenomenal improvement that proved their potential for future seasons. No matter what happened, they were all positive about their experience and left the season with an elevated mood and a true athlete’s mindset.
As much as they put in their hardest efforts to lead the team to success, captains Jei Moon (Grade 10) and Namee Kim (Grade 10) were equally concerned with the well-being of their younger players and the spirit of the team as a whole. One of the biggest worries for Jei was whether her teammates would be drained due to a lack of players available to sub them out. But as a leader, her goal this season was to share as many great experiences with her teammates and to witness their growth. This goal was fulfilled, as at the end of the season, she was pleased with the improvement that her team had achieved. “I believe that their hard cooperation led the whole team [to] shine together,” she says.

The first open gym was an encouraging moment for Coach Matthews, who had been concerned about filling in the big shoes left by the players that graduated last year. After seeing the Freshmen and new transferring girls play, he says, “I knew we would be able to do some good things during the season.” Coach Matthews reminisces about the team’s experience with great satisfaction. “We ended the season playing our best volleyball and that was really encouraging. As a coach, you want your players to continue to grow throughout the season and we did just that.” He hopes that the girls left with a desire to continue with their improvement, lots of golden memories, and knowledge to last a lifetime.
On Basketball
Coach Matthews remembers the heated crowd at the home game against Chadwick that added to the exciting experience. The game started off as a close one, but the team “outworked [Chadwick] to get the win”. This was a particularly triumphant victory since the boys had lost to them by 33 in their first game against each other. “As a coach, these are the breakthroughs you want to see your teams have, because without them, it is tough to reach new milestones.”

Coach Son
Both Coach Ewen and Coach Son agree that the final home game against GSIS was one of the most phenomenal moments. Even with many of their teammates being absent or injured, the girls adapted to the situation as best they could without hesitation. Coach Son remembers being very pleasantly surprised. “Everyone went all in knowing that they were needed,” she recalls. “I got to see players step up to the challenge of playing more and in roles that they were not used to,” Coach Ewen says, “we set a season-high for most points scored in a game that day.”
Girls Junior Varsity Basketball
Coach Kwon
This was Coach Kwon’s first time coaching High School basketball, but the girls did not let her down. For her team, group morale was key. “We only had about two or three athletes who had actually played basketball before, so I think going off of that and hearing their story and their athletic career brought everybody together.” When they vastly reduced their point difference in their second game against the same team, they were overjoyed. Reminiscing about that day, she says, “It really was a touching moment for me as a coach, and I could see that it was a good moment for them as well.” She believes that sisterhood played a big part in their success as well as their ability to maintain an uplifted mindset in every situation. “Every day was something new... It was exciting. It was a fun season.”

In an exclusive interview with Justin Suh (10), club president of Volleyballers, we are given insight into the dedication that students put into providing the best on-campus experiences for each other: Q: What are your anticipations and goals for your club? A: The main anticipation goal of Volleyballers is to make sure that all students have a chance to engage in volleyball practice regardless of whether or not they are on the varsity team. One problem we saw was that when students got cut from tryouts, there was little to no opportunity to engage in structured volleyball practice. Volleyballers is meant to solve this problem and be inclusive to everyone, regardless of their skill levels. Q: What do you think club members got out of being a part of this? A: By being a part of Volleyballers, club members have the opportunity to engage in a structured practice each week. Furthermore, students who play volleyball can bond with each other by sharing a passion for the sport. We hope that by being a part of the club, students will be able to become better volleyball players. Q: How are you handling being an executive leader/president? A: One positive of being president would be being able to promote and lead a club for a sport that I personally have a passion for. I wouldn’t call this a negative, but if I had to [pick one], being a president comes with responsibilities such as making sure everyone is included and structuring the practices to be effective, so that’s one aspect that I as the president need to pay attention to.

The Student Representative Council is composed of elected student members that brings the voice of the students to the forefront. This is done in an effort to make the best in-school experience for students possible. The council organizes, leads, and assists in annual student events like the Fall Carnival, MS Lock-in, HS Retreat, ES Bake Sales, and Prom, and meet weekly to plan for upcoming occasions. Presidents Andy Oh (12) and Joseph Kim (12) talked about their SRC experience this year in an interview: Andy Oh What was your favorite memory of the SRC this year?
Joseph Kim What is one strength of the SRC?
My favorite memories of the SRC would be the weekly Monday SRC meetings. Of course, not all meetings were done in the most ideal way and there were ups and downs throughout the year. But while leading the weekly meetings, I recognized everyone in the council gradually devoting themselves to the council works to serve the students.
I think one of our strengths is the fact that we try to make SRC fun in itself. I like to think that based upon this year, SRC wasn’t an extra chore, but every member had fun with what they were doing. Each active brainstorm to see how we could improve student life was something we all looked forward to.

THEIA is a Christian club that meets every Thursday lunch. Deriving our name from the Greek word for “divine,” our purpose is to serve people in need, especially at children’s villages and rehabilitation centers in South Korea and in Cambodia. Every trimester, the club members participate in local trips to Yeson, and each spring, students have the opportunity to attend a mission trip to Cambodia.

Dearest Jiwon Congratulations! We are truly blessed to be your mom and dad! A compassionate and smart girl that you grew up to be, and we cannot be more proud. Just as you put your best efforts and passion in your life at APIS, so be that way even after graduation. Like Mark Twain said, “Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” Love you lots~ From Mom & Dad

Dear my son Congratulations on your high school graduation and becoming a college student! Since you were a little kid, you have made me smile and feel happy countless of times. I will miss every moment we spent together, but I know it’s time for you to spread your little wings and fly to a bigger world. I’m so happy to see that a little kid building Lego Cities and Emerald Night Trains is becoming a student majoring in CEE to build more livable places like smart cities and futuristic transportation networks. I know you have always faced obstacles with courage so, please don’t be afraid to take on big challenges ahead. Please also keep interested in a wide variety of issues in our society, and try to help people around you. I love you deeply and eternally. Dad.

To Our Dearest Anna, Looking at all these old photos, it is nearly impossible to believe how much you have grown as a beautiful human being, responsible young woman, student, and artist! These images call to mind so many wonderful memories of our first eighteen years with you; they also remind us that you were absolutely born you! As parents, we always did our best to provide you with opportunities and guidance, but in actuality we cannot take much credit for your character or your drive. Your path was clear and unwavering from the time you were four years old, and we are both grateful and relieved that you were willing and able to walk it without focusing too narrowly upon it. But now you have done the difficult foundational work and earned the right to commit more fully to your own goals and passions. Live your truth! We could not be prouder of or happier for you, and cannot wait to witness the next chapter(s) of your life. With all our love, Mom and Dad

Dear my beloved, malicious brother, Do you know you fill a place in my heart that nobody else can occupy? We’ve often shared many harmonious and memorable moments and petty arguments, which soon will be nostalgic childhood memories. I’ll especially remember those stupid competitions of bad breath, which I almost fainted to death. I’ve never said this out loud or probably it was because I never had the right time to, nevertheless I want to let you know I love you. As we journey through our lives, we may be physically drifted apart, but we’ll always be connected spiritually. You are my brother through blood, but you’ll always be my best friend through love. - Yours truly, Joanna

Though there were times we were hard on you...our love for you never failed to grow. I'm sure that deep down, your younger sisters and brother are also very happy to have you as their brother. Love you always.

To our dearest oldest daughter Mei-Mei, From the very moment you arrived in this world, your keen curiosity for all things and people around you was apparent. There wasn’t anything that couldn’t spark your interest, always exploring things on your own. You have also been continuously determined, never wanting to give up on any goal in front of you. Your confidence has consistently shown that you will thrive in the future. As a blessing in our family, over the past 18 years, you have grown up to be an outstanding and responsible young lady. Even throughout the hardship in the past and the future, May the Lord bless you and protect you, May the Lord smile on you and be gracious to you, May the Load show you his favor and give you his peace. Love you dearest forever and ever, Mom and Dad

Hey son, As I searched for photos to put on this page, I realized how fast time has flown by. Photos remind me of all the precious memories. I see how much you have grown and matured. And God has gifted you with so many talents. You are intelligent, focused, athletic, artistic and musically creative. You have been nurtured and sheltered by APIS and by your loving family for years. Now, as you get ready to step out into the world, I can only imagine the excitement and anxiety. Never have fear because you have your friends, your family and you will always have Jesus Christ. Congratulations on your graduation! We love you! ~Mom

Mr. Jason A. Grout Creating the 2019-2020 APIS Yearbook was a testiment to the flexibility, creativity, and passion of the yearbook staff. From day one, my students were curious to see what this years book could be. And were we ever surprised! In our first semester, our staff consisted of over 20 students! This filled the classroom with an atmospher of energy and excitement that I was overjoyed to see. Each of the teams imediately took charge of what they wanted to do, working their hardest to make the yearbook their own. Then, in our second semester, COVID-19 shook the world to its core; our school, our teachers, and our yearbook staff were no exception. And while the energy may have been shaken, my student’s passion and drive never faultered! I cannot express how absolutely greatful I am to these students; in the face of adversity, they held their heads up and kept pushing to make this year’s book the greatest it could be. You pushed and pushed, not accepting a no because of the circumstances. You asked how we could make the book better and you were creative and flexible enough to bring that vision to life. I have enjoyed so much of our time this year working as a Yearbook staff and can’t wait to see what next year will bring. A special thank you to all those who have helped with this massive endeavor. Without you, this book would not have been possible. Congratulations to all of my APIS Seniors and remember: embrace the challenges of today and look to make tomorrow just a little better!

Through this year I gained leadership skills from being the lead designer. Initially, I struggled in being vocal because our team has a mix of grade levels making it awkward at times. However, as time passed I started to see growth which guided our team into collaborating more effectively resulting in a comfortable setting to work in. all-around, this year was a valuable learning experience.
