About Me

My name is Jhalan Taylor, an aspiring architect from the city of Freeport, Grand Bahama, The Bahamas. I have always enjoyed the art of drawing, sketching, watercolor painting, and drafting. It was early on in life when I decided I was headed on a path towards a career in architecture. The idea of constructing lines in a way that leads to forms that can impact people in a positive way for years and years to come, and also prove beneficial to the environment is what fuels my passion for architecture. Architecture for me is a way I can serve others through my God-given talents. I have always enjoyed technical drawing and graphical communications, and now, my love for architecture, specifically detailing and modeling, has only grown deeper.

Home Study 2

Nassau, The Bahamas This second home study project was done on the premise of creating a space where the Bahamian youth can go and use their time wisely after school, or anytime in general, and provide places for those without homes to live. On its first floor, this building houses a restaurant, a gallery, and a library.

Second Floor This floor is where the worship and education aspect of the design occurs. There are classrooms located to the west and a wooden chapel and fellowship hall located to the east; all having access to the courtyard via balconies and stairs.

Third Floor This floor is where all of the living and community units are located. There are 9 dwelling units, all having access to the community outdoor kitchen and the aerobics/fitness room. Again, all has access to the courtyard via balconies and stairs.

Home Study 1

Nassau, The Bahamas The Home Study Project was done on the bases that we had to create a background building, storefront ministry, that would help provide solutions for the problems within the community. This building, located along Bay Street, Nassau, New Providence was designed to function as an assembly area where meetings can be condcucted, but also contains apartments above it, two studio apartments and two one-bedroom apartments. 32

Morton Barn Craft Studio Project

As a part of a craft studio, a barn-style museum was to be drafted up to house the historical Morton History Museum. The idea behind this design was to showcase the historical pieces in a walking-showcase style at the front and a banquet hall to house museum events at the rear.
