The agency was established in 1900, by Charles E. Deland, the great uncle of Charlie Gibson, who is president of the firm today. Charlie’s father, George W. Gibson, joined the agency in 1935, and Charlie started his career here as a sales producer in 1972, after leaving the Navy. At that time, 12 people were employed by Deland, Gibson, which was writing about $2.5 million in premium.

A blaze in early 2006 forced the company to temporarily relocate its office for four months, but the agency still earned the Five Star Award of Distinction for a third time.
