WELCOME NOTE
BIC MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE CHAIRMAN MESSAGE Welcome to the Batam International Charity newsletter, I hope you find these articles informative and that they give you some insight into the projects that the BIC team has been progressing in 2012. As the incoming BIC Chairman, I would firstly like to thank Mudhito Prakosa for his support to the Charity and handing it over to me in ‘good health’. Having only been on Batam for 6 months, I have had the privilege of visiting a local orphanage, Insanul Madhani, and also attending the construction launch of it’s new building, donated by GE Vetco. After this event, a number of us visited the existing orphanage accommodation and enjoyed lunch with the Children. This was a humbling experience for me and reinforced my view that the BIC is doing good work, but does need strong support from individuals, particularly from the Corporate sector. The Batam International Charity has been supporting the Batam community for 11 years through fund raising events such as Children parties, donations and most importantly the Batam International Charity Golf Tournament. This year is no different, The Organizing Committee for the BICGT 2013 has already been established and has agreed that the event will be held on 22 March 2013. The venue for the event will be the Palm Springs Golf Club, Nongsa, Batam. The first BICGT event occurred on Sunday, 11 November. For this event, over 50 children were invited to participate in an art competition. The theme of the competition and for BIC 2013 is ‘My Wish – My Dream’. The pictures and artwork that was developed by the children will used on calendars, Cards, banners and other memorabilia to be sold over the coming months, with the funds going towards the overall BICGT 2013 financial target of USD 500,000. The BIC organizing committee hopes that there will be a number of fund raising events in the run up to the BICGT 2013, so if you have a little time or any suggestions please join in and help the team. For further information on what events or activities are planned, or if you wish to help, please contact Vorra I. Cahayani, BIC administrator, at email vicahayani@mcdermott.com or telp. +62778 405840.

2. BICGT AT A GLANCE
The Batam International Charity (BIC) was established in 2002 as the Batam Charity Bash (BCB). In November 2008, the BCB changed its name to BIC to reflect its legal registration as a charitable organization. The BIC activities are totally funded by money raised through the annual Golf Tournament organized by McDermott staff and other volunteers. The event includes an evening cocktail party, a golf tournament and an awards’ dinner. Funds are raised via corporate and individual sponsorships. The event celebrated 11 years of giving in March 2012.

Since its beginning in 2002, BIC has supported 49 buildings for orphanages, schools and community center in Batam. The construction projects vary from roof repairs, ceiling and toilet renovation, kitchen renovation, fencing and handrails installation, new water storage tanks and new orphanages buildings.
Âť ZEYVANEZ ORPHANAGE NEW CONSTRUCTION BY PMT SU TU VANG The Zeyvanez Orphanage houses 19 child victims of the tsunami that devastated Aceh in 2004. Two years ago, these children were living in a 5m by 8m shack made of plywood. Through a USD 50,000 donation by the Su Tu Vang Project Team, the BIC helped the Zeyvanez Orphanage construct a new building for the children. On May 24 this year, Mr. Anwar Ali, representing PMT Su Tu Vang team, handed over the newly completed dormitory building to the Zeyvanez Orphanage in a ceremony witnessed by the local government, PTMI management representatives and the BIC Management Committee. You can imagine how happy the children were with their new home. They now have proper rooms to sleep in, and each child has a proper bed of their own.

4.6 HINTERLAND PROJECT Since its inception, BIC has been supporting eleven islands by providing school support and constructing orphanage dormitories, artesian wells and water tanks, community centers, jetties and toilets. Last year, the BIC Hinterland Project Team has surveyed eight islands: Pulau Panjang Barat, Pulau Panjang Timur, Pulau Granting, Pulau Keban, Pulau Judah, Pulau Sunti, Pulau Teluk Kangkung and Pulau Lance. Among these islands, only Pulau Lance was supported due to budget limitations. Pulau Lance, or Lance Island, required immediate electricity support for 40 families living in 34 houses. As the island’s only generator had broken down, they had had to share the generator from Pulau Panjang Barat. This was not ideal as it meant each house had enough electricity for only one lamp. The BIC Hinterland donated a 20 KVA 400 Volt generator to Lance Island, built a room to store the generator and erected electricity poles for each house. As a result of these provisions, the lives of the families living there have improved significantly. LANCE Island
