Not long after arriving on Batam as an expat wife, I took up the position of Chairperson of the BICGT. I wanted to put my organizational skills to good use working for a Charity.

I totally underestimated the reward I would get from this position. I cannot emphasize enough the incredible work the BIC does and how humbling it is to see the children’s faces when they receive a piece of used clothing, or a new book, or some bedding for example. I enjoyed the whole experience of organizing the BICGT and look forward to being part of the committee for the next event in 2014 .

Life-altering moments “I joined BIC as member of the Executive Committee on last May, 2011. The calling to be a volunteer was triggered by seeing the happiness reflected in BIC volunteers’ face whenever they succeed in delivering a project which had impacted so many lives. The whole experience opened my eyes to be grateful all the time. The best moment during my volunteering time was successful completion of Hinterland Outreach project, where BIC provided electricity facilities on Lance Island. This project benefited children who live on this remote island. As a result nowadays children can study and do their homework at night.
