NEW RAVE GENERATION NEW RAVE
GENERATION Almost 15 years after SPIN prematurely declared an American “electronica revolution,” it’s happening. Led by a former emo foot soldier turned mini-shaman, kids are going mad for electronic dance music. And a frenzied tribe of ravers is on a previously unimaginable roll. [Magazine Excerpt] Planting his black boots squarely between a laptop and a MIDI controller, Sonny Moore stands atop his gear table and surveys the scene. As far as the eye can see, there’s an ocean of bodies spangled with flash bulbs, crowned by colorful headgear, covered in Spandex, face paint, glitter, and beads. The horizon smolders in a neon haze of fireworks smoke. Glow sticks erupt from the crowd, mimicking the jets of flame that periodically burst from the top of the stage. It’s like Hieronymus Bosch’s Garden of Earthly Delights meets the bridge battle from Apocalypse Now — a riot of flesh and light and dizzying excess. Of the 85,000 people who have ventured out into the desert to the Las Vegas Motor Speedway on this June night for the 2011 edition of Electric Daisy Carnival, a significant proportion of them are now watching Moore.

A former screamo frontman who has reinvented himself as Skrillex, a maker of hyper hybrids of electronic dance music. The diminutive, bespectacled Californian is one of the most closely watched artists on the dance scene, and he’s playing his biggest show yet in his 23 years on the planet. There must be 200 people onstage. A camera crew is filming for the documentary The Electric Daisy Carnival Experience. Photographers scrum for position around Moore, ducking under the boom overhead. An intenselooking stage manager shoos back scores of VIPs and hangers-on, yelling, “Get away from my lights!” A steady stream of go-go dancers files out, commanded by a stern choreographer who practically shoves them into formation — waves of performers who look like refugees from Brazilian Carnaval and Blade Runner, cast in a strip-club version of Cirque du Soleil. Their ?attire includes hot pants, fishnets, bandeau tops, platform boots, fright wigs, feather headdresses and eyelashes, jester caps, and multifarious scraps of scifi cosplay detritus. One troupe of performers wear spooky white contact lenses to match.

Finally, all the speculation, rumors and heated The magazine publishes two annual “Top 100” lists, one for DJs since 1991 and one for nightclubs. English DJ Danny Rampling was the first winner of this award,[4] Smokin Jo is the only female DJ to win this award (voted by the magazine) [5][6][7] and Armin van Buuren currently holds the record of most overall wins with five and a record four consecutively. As of 2010 both polls are based on a public vote. Trackitdown.net formed a collaboration with the 2008 DJ poll, saying “By offering each voter a free track to download from our catalogue of 350,000 .
arguments can come to an end, as DJ Mag has revealed their infamous Top 100 ranking list of the best DJs in the world. Despite being based on popularity rather than talent, people make a pretty deal out of this list every year, and even though it gets a lot of criticism, it’s always fun to see who comes out on top. Taking to Twitter earlier today, DJ Mag announced the results of their poll and once again, Hardwell emerged victorious, taking the number one spot for the second year in a row. Not far behind him were all the usual suspects (Tiesto, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Avicii, Martin Garrix etc.) and overall, this list is mostly what everyone predicted from the start, as it always is.

The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival (in English Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, also known simply as Coachella Fest) is a big music festival that takes place for three days last week in April (two days to editing 2007) and takes place in Indio, California, United States. In it you can hear different musical genres such as alternative rock, hip hop, electronica etc. Currently many media admit that the festival has been deteriorating by the fact that the rich and famous to join this. The Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival isn’t heaven and it isn’t hell. It’s both. You get to see all your favorite bands perform all your favorite songs in front of a gorgeous backdrop of palm trees and mountainsides, but you have to endure 105-degree heat. You get surprise collaborations, celebrity sightings, and bikes that charge cell phones, but an ice cream bar costs $6 and you have to walk two miles to find your car in the parking lot. Nonetheless, it’s the kind of thing everyone should experience once, if only to be able to tell your grandkids that when you were young and free, you fashioned a hat out of the lid to a recycling bin and laid in the grass watching Scarlett Johansson duet with the Jesus and Mary Chain as the sun set. Coachella 2007, which took place Friday, April 27, Saturday, April 28, and Sunday, April 29 at Empire Polo Field in Indio, Calif., did a lot of things

One of the highlights of my Coachella, Of Montreal managed to project both stadium grandeur and small stage weirdness at their scorching mid-afternoon set. On the E! reporting tip: Kevin Barnes had three costume changes (Klaus Nomi clown; go-go dancer; silver dress giantess) and Brian Poole wore a pink, dodgily rigged Eno-in-Ostrich-Feathers ensemble. They played the majority of Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer? -alas no epic “The Past Is a Grotesque Animal”-and Barnes and Poole managed their in-sync melismatic harmonies with ease and modest glam panache. By “Bunny Ain’t No Kind of Rider” Barnes was go-go dancing in blue shorts and fishnets, grabbing his crotch to illustrate the lyric, “you wouldn’t know what to do with me.” Off duty A. Phillips reminded me of Barnes’ earlier Pitchfork exclusive, and there was a temporary swoon. On a reconfigured Satanic Panic -era “Rapture Rapes the Muses” Barnes climbed into a giant silver clown costume via a ladder just like high art performer Marina Abramovic . They ended with “The Party’s Crashing Us” and while crowd dancing I noticed their monitor mix soundman was wearing a Steely Dan tour t-shirt. Winner, best t-shirt of the day if only to be able to tell your grandkids that when you were young and free, it you can hear different musical gen-
