I
t’s fun to see how wedding planning has transformed over the years. How certain fun and/or functional practices have become established tradition. And how styles and décor have evolved into what we are seeing today. My bride-friends almost always ask me: what can I do to make my wedding different? Here’s how I see it: stay true to yourselves as individuals (you and your hubby-to-be) and as a couple. Ditch the burlap and embrace something that is personal to you! As you see in our vintage bride article (p. 76), Jackie Kennedy Onassis opted for the “social event of the year” reception, but kept an intimate feel by hosting it at her childhood home on Hammersmith Farm. Take her iconic lead and stamp the day with something meaningful and intimately you! Flip through for some amazing and creative ideas in this issue of Beautiful Bride: chair selections for every theme (p. 88), a variety of trending stationery fashions (p. 26), Fabulous Finds for the Bride AND the Groom (p. 22 & 82) and unconventional Honeymoon ‘Glamping’ trips for the classy yet adventurous couple (p. 106). And with the endless possibilities, nothing gets your theme and vision across quite like flowers! This issue, we’ve incorporated everything floral décor. Including an exclusive with Preston Bailey and his globally recognized ability of turning ordinary spaces into lush, theatrical environments (p. 60). Take notes!

Trying It on Your Own
planning your wedding can be one of your most enjoyable experiences and should be a very special time in your life. however, for many, it becomes one of the most stressful events they’ll ever experience. It all depends on your planning and those who help you plan.
If you are the “planner” type and choose to do it yourself, you will want to keep this magazine close and use it every day. We feature many expert vendors within these pages that offer an incredible amount of help. you will want to use the planning tools inside and be sure to visit our website for even more help at beautifulbridemagazine.com.
If reducing your stress is important, or taking the time to work out all the details isn’t available, consider hiring a professional wedding planner. the guidance provided, along with the professional experience, attention to detail, supervision and articulation, will seem indispensable on your big day—the day it all comes together. Mom is great, your best friends are always there, but a true wedding planner can do it all in a professional and timely manner. they work diligently to make sure that their clients’ weddings will be a success. plus, wedding planners are prepared for last-minute preparations that are often overlooked by the busy bride. they usually carry an emergency kit and have everything from an extra bible to a water bottle and even an emergency sewing kit. Interview your wedding planner as you would for any job and check their references. Find one that matches your personality and you enjoy being around. ask for the names and numbers of their last three brides as references.

If you are lucky enough to have been offered help by friends and family members, take it. there are so many details to attend to that it can easily become overwhelming, and you may need all the help you can get. Whichever way you choose to go, do not forget to focus on what it all means instead of just the actual event. yes, the wedding is important, but you should always keep in mind that you are marrying your best friend and starting a life together.
Yes, the wedding is important, but you should always keep in mind that you are marrying your best friend and starting a life together.
Changing Your Name If you are wishing to keep your name, it’s easy: do nothing! If you are planning to hyphenate or take your husband’s name, there are some steps you will need to take. Once you receive your official marriage license, start with Social Security and then your local Department of Motor Vehicles. From there, you can change credit cards, utilities and all others. Keep this checklist of officials and agencies that must be notified of your change in status.
Name Change Checklist Bank (Checking, Savings, Loans) Bills (Utilities, Car Payment, etc.) Credit Cards Insurance (Home, Car, Health, Life) Motor Vehicle Registration Personal (Friends, Dr. Office, Business Cards, etc.) Passport Social Security University/School
Marriage License Details Marriage license requirements vary from state to state. Check your state or local government’s websites. you need to keep an eye out for how long the license is valid: some may only be valid for only a few days after being issued. you need to factor this into your planning timeline. Before setting out for your license to wed, find out the paperwork requirements. do you need just a photo Id or will you need an original birth certificate? do you need divorce papers, if this isn’t a first marriage?
Voter Registration Notes
Check the fee for obtaining your license and the accepted forms of payment. some places may only accept cash. If you are under 1, check the age requirement. a parent may need to sign for you. another thing to factor into your planning timeline is a potential waiting period. once you apply, most states will give you the license on that day. others, you may have a waiting period. Blood tests are no longer required in most states, but it is something you will want to double check just in case.

FLORAL
I I
want to see some bold things with floral décor! I keep taking about the infusion of reds on a much broader design scale. And obviously this includes floral. And also purples and plums. But not in a seasonal way, to me it’s something people should see all year long. It’s important to allow the wedding to truly step outside the box and see this excitement of color. As for floral trends – I think we’re going to see a nod toward what we’ve been seeing - which is what I’ve also been doing. More of the lush, opulent, low floral pieces. These are really about just packing it in, keeping it low, keeping it more about dining rooms settings and not about these monstrosity centerpieces - which I do, because clients want that.
It’s more about the simple settings these days, feeling like dining room settings as oppose to a table housing a $4,000-5,000 centerpiece. More of an intimate environment.
they forget. They want to visually show the flowers. But it either has to be under the guest’s point-ofview, or way above it. There is no middle of the ground. You can’t fake it. Centerpieces have to be an accent to the table, not the main purpose. You can always add additional elements around the venue. Whether it’s in the ceiling, or around the room – whatever you want! Just don’t compromise this basic concept of allowing your guests to interact.

I think people are so eager to want to please visually, that they forgot there is a use for wanting to see across the table. I know it seems very basic-101 in floral design. My theory has always been – elbow on the table and arm up – if your wrist is where the floral is, your eye obstruction has been blocked. And designers, even designers who work for me,

Stationery Fashion Unveiled
Stationery Fashion Unveiled In the Buff Neutral is everything but blah. Blacks, whites, creams, greys and taupes combine to bring sophistication and dimension to any situation. For invitations in particular, a neutral color palette sets the stage for soft, classic romance - while allowing greater play with materials, textures, printing techniques and patterns. Unusual elements combine, and creativity soars with the endless options of neutral. Consider combinations of leather, parchment, cotton and copper for an experience that engages all of the senses.
Pastel Gets a Punch The pastel hues of the past have gotten a swift kick in the you know what. More punchy colors like mint, coral, salmon and yellow are all the rage. This means that invitations get to step it up a notch and get their flare on. Ink washes, florals that pop and graphic patterns are just a few ways that we see invites getting some hop back in their step.
Not Your Grandmother’s China Long dining tables, silver flatware, and plated dinners are being served up hot. Guests get the Red Carpet treatment from start to finish and that begins with the Save-the-Date. Paper goods go beyond the pulp and turn up their noses to anything less. To keep up with the Jones’, add delicacies like acrylic and silk chiffon to the invitation menu. Getting married in the lap of luxury is just one white-gloved arm length away.
Precious Metals More shine, more shimmer, more glam and more glitz are all the rage. Gleaming gold, silver and copper metallics bounce off surfaces throughout the Wedding spectrum. From glittering linens to

gold dusted desserts, invitations are all but cast in bronze. Foil stamped splatters and metallic leather cord will render even Miss Hannigan speechless, ensuring that your wedding shines like the top of the Chrysler building.
Let there be Light Chandeliers are back in full swing. From ballrooms to barns - the more crystal the better! Light flickers about the room, and dances with guests, as each facet casts a romantic glow matching that of the bride herself. Light crawls and seeps into invitations with their translucent materials and cutting edge techniques. Laser cut text, silk chiffon and pearlescent foil will leave you basking in the glory of the shimmer.
Barrels and Bourbon Ditch the stuffy tux and bubbly, hold onto your suspenders and raise your Manhattan to the bride and groom. Because old habits die hard, backyard bashes are headed for the 20’s, and bringing the speakeasy above ground. Get your swank on between croquet swings and order your liquor up neat as you take in the woodsy decor. Start practicing the Charleston because Letterpress invitations with hand-made details are back. Stamped linen, stitched wood veneer and type from a good old-fashioned press will have you shining up those wing tips months in advance.

you should start your gift registry six to nine months before your wedding date. It is always good to register at more than one store, as well as register online. Make sure you find out how to keep track of your registry and keep it updated between your showers and actual wedding.
Registry Points Register for Big Ticket Items: a number of your guests may team up and get you a group gift. Be sure to include big ticket items on your registry to ensure guests have this option. Register at More than One Store: this allows you to add some variety to your registry, and make it more convenient for guests who may not have access to the one store you select. Prepare Yourself Before Entering the Store: Create a checklist of items you will be looking for, and make a few scouting trips before you set out with the scanner gun.
Take Note It is never appropriate to include your gift registry information with your wedding invitations. It is best spread by word-of-mouth by your wedding entourage, your family and close friends. the word-of-mouth practice should also be used if you are requesting donations to charities instead of gifts or requesting no gifts at all. thank you notes must be sent within three months of the wedding—and the groom is expected to share in the responsibility of writing them. thank you notes must be handwritten and sent immediately for those gifts that were sent via mail or delivery service—including those received prior to your wedding date. each note should be written by only one person and signed by only one person, but should mention the thanks of the other. send thank you notes not only to those that sent gifts, but also to family, friends and vendors that contributed their time, expertise and effort in planning and organizing your wedding.

Bridal Beauty from the Inside Out Juice Your Way to Flawlessness!

s you prepare for your big day, there are probably a lot of things on your mind. you may want to slim down for your perfect dress, or find a way to boost your energy level to get everything done, or manage stress to keep the binge eating under control. You may be concerned about looking beautiful, radiant and glowing without a puffy face or dark circles under your eyes. a juice cleanse may be just the answer for all of those concerns.
What is a Juice Cleanse? Juice cleansing is a gentle method of detoxing, while flooding your body with nutrients. the most common length of time is a three-day cleanse. unlike the fasts and “cleanses” of our college days, juice cleanses are extremely nutrient dense, and help repair your body and your skin, rather than depriving it.
How does it work? your pancreas produces enzymes, which are nature’s powerhouse. enzymes are the little guys that fuel every bodily function, from the beating of your heart, to the production of collagen. they help your body operate and restore itself. If you are stressed, aren’t getting enough sleep, aren’t eating a healthy diet high in fruits and vegetables, you are using more of the enzymes to keep your body restored and beautiful. your digestive system actually uses between 70-80% of your enzymes just to digest your food, depending on what you are eating.

By drinking juices made with organic fruits and vegetables, you give your digestive system a break, so that your body can use all those great enzymes to restore and repair. your digestive system will be able to “catch up” and release all sorts of stored toxins from overindulgence in processed food, caffeine and booze. and because the raw fruits and vegetables used to make your juices contain massive amounts of enzymes, you will find your beauty and energy rejuvenated.
What are the benefits for a bride? reset your cravings. I suggest doing a juice cleanse a few months before your wedding, so that you are able to cut those sugar and processed food cravings. the better you eat leading up to your wedding, the better you will look and feel on the big day. you may want to do a second one a week or two before the wedding, to give you a final boost. reset your beauty. By removing stored up toxins and flooding your body with enzymes, vitamins and nutrients, you will notice your skin looks younger, and your eyes brighter. reset your energy. With all the little details on your plate, it is difficult to get it all done. drinking fresh juice will renew your energy, and leave you craving more fruits and veggies afterward, which will help sustain that energy into your wedding day.
You can make your own juices, or you can purchase an organic juice cleanse, ready made and labeled for easy use.
you can make your own juices, or you can purchase an organic juice cleanse, ready made and labeled for easy use. once you finish your cleanse, you will be craving fruits and veggies, so take advantage and start each day with a fresh juice! Below is a recipe for a juice you can make every day, to help cleanse your skin and boost your antioxidants. If you want to purchase a ready made cleanse, ritual Wellness ships nationwide. their reset Cleanse consists of 6 bottles of cold pressed juice, made daily from over 20 pounds of usda organic produce. If you plan to keep your workout going during your cleanse, you can add two extra bottles of juice daily, called shred. the pre shred is specially formulated to fuel your workout and the post shred is protein packed to speed recovery following your workout. readers of Beautiful Bride can save 15% on orders through august 31st by entering code “beautybride” at checkout.
reset your mind. drinking juices for a few days will help you get in touch with your body. you will be able to tell when you are truly hungry, versus reaching for food because you are stressed. Following your cleanse, this lesson will stay with you, and help you fight off cravings as your wedding nears.

lowers? Check. Invitations out? Check. photographer booked? Check. With only a few weeks left before the big day, now it’s all about the dress. every bride-to-be wants to look her very best on her wedding day. once you’ve found that perfect dress, you’re probably working extra hard at sticking to a healthy diet and exercise plan. “your workout should be catered toward what style of dress you’re wearing,” says Franci Cohen, personal trainer, certified nutritionist and exercise physiologist in new york City. “there are the sleeveless ball gowns that hide lower body flaws but really show off your shoulders and arms. there is the mermaid style that hugs the body and demands a toned butt and hips. Whatever your style, there are workout routines that target the specific areas your dress reveals.”
The Mermaid Workout Form-fitted, sheath, column, hourglass, mermaid and trumpet style dresses cling to the body, drawing attention to the belly, butt and thighs. What You Want: a sleek, smooth torso for even the slinkiest sheath.
The Workout: For a clingy dress that leaves no stone uncovered, and bares even the slightest bit of bulge, try this “progressive-plank trio.” It works the entire core in a progressive series that will cinch your waistline, and give you the sleek and smooth torso you desire! 1. In plank position, lift your feet one at a time (just an inch off the floor) like walking in place without bending your knees. repeat 0 times (approx. 1 minute) stay In plank! . While still in plank position, progress to plank push-pulls! push forward so that your weight is on your toes for 1 count, and then pull back so that weight is towards your heels for counts. the cycle goes like this “push-pull pull, push-pull pull, etc.” repeat this cycle 0 times. stay In plank! . your final progression is to plank rolls for the remaining minute. In plank position, gently and with control, roll your body weight to the right, all the way, so that you feet roll onto their sides as well. then roll all the way to the left. Continuously, and with fluidity, roll side to side 0 times.

The Baby Got Back Workout open back wedding dresses are the new ultra-romantic wedding trend for the 01 summer and fall seasons. What You Want: an upper and lower back workout to help firm up that all important rear view. The Workout: a strong upper back and toned physique will give you the killer backside you desire, to go bare back in style! try this: 1. Bent over rows. to start, holding a body bar, stand with your feet shoulder width apart. Bend your knees slightly and keep your head up. Bend so that you are almost (but not quite) parallel to the floor. Bring hands straight down directly below your chest. your palms should be facing toward you as you lift the weight. use your back muscles to draw the weight up to touch your chest while keeping your elbows tucked in close to your body. lower the weight under control and repeat times. . Pull-Ups. this may seem like an exercise that’s more appropriate for the arms but a great deal of work is placed on the upper back to lift the weight of the body and lower it with control. an alternative for beginner would be to use an assisted pull-up machine that uses weight to counter act your own bodyweight. use this
machine until you can perform regular pull-up/chin-ups in proper form. start with an overhand grip for pull-ups, and underhand grip for chin-ups. keep your hands at shoulder width approximately for pull ups and just to the outside of the width of the jawline for chin ups. perform pull-ups of chin-ups, trying your best to hold for a second at the top of the movement. . The Dive-Lie. Face down on the floor with your hands on the floor right in front of your shoulders, and elbows bent out to the sides. straighten out the arms and lift the upper body into a cobra position. next, lean forward and lift both legs in the air, and lift hands off the floor, emphasizing lower-back engagement even more. Continuing rocking forward and back diving between the movements.
The 360-Degree Strapless Dress Workout the strapless wedding dress is a classic, timeless style. It will also put your upper body on a 0-degree display during the walk down the aisle, the first dance and of course the bouquet toss. What You Want: tone triceps, biceps, and pectorals to really strut your strapless stuff. The Workout: try these super-toning moves to get those arms sculpted to perfection in no time! 1. Triceps Dips. Begin by sitting on a step or chair with hands next to thighs. Balance on your arms, moving your rear end in front of the chair with legs straight (harder) or bent (easier). Bend the elbows and lower body a few inches, keeping the shoulders away from your ears and the elbows parallel to one another, going no lower than 0 degrees. push back up to starting position. repeat for 1 long superset
of repetitions. If you have any wrist or shoulder problems, skip this exercise. . Suspended Bicep Curls. With a - pound weight in each hand, raise your hands up, so that elbows are parallel to your shoulders, and hands are directly above the elbows (forming a right angle at your elbows). keeping your arms suspended, with palms facing you, curl you hands in towards your shoulders, and then extend back out to starting right angle position (do not extend the arms fully to straight). repeat for curls. . Push-Ups. start in plank position, with your hands under but slightly outside of your shoulders. lower your body until your chest nearly touches the floor. as you lower yourself, tuck your elbows, pulling them close to your body so that your upper arms form a -degree angle when your torso is in the bottom position of the move. hold for just a second, and then push back to the starting position. keep your core braced the entire time. don’t let your booty lift up into the air, and don’t let your hips sag either. you want your body to be on neutral position-one straight line from head to toe.
holding on to the top of a chair. place a squishy ball behind your right knee, and bend your lower leg to secure the ball in place. lift your right leg so that your right upper leg becomes parallel to the floor and perpendicular to your left standing leg. start pulsing the right thigh up and down (and inch in each direction). repeat for 0 pulses. next, rotate your right hip in and down, so that your right knee rotates down to face the floor. then rotate up and out, so that your right foot faces the floor. Continue rotating in and out 0 times. Finally, return back to starting position, with your right thigh parallel to the floor and right knee should be level with your right hip. With your knee, start drawing circles. 0 circles rolling forward and then 0 in reverse. repeat on left leg.
The Get Shorty Workout Whether you’re having a lowkey beach wedding or looking for a second, more casual, dress to wear to your reception, short wedding gowns are all about the gams. What You Want: toned and sculpted legs, quads and butt. The Workout: Want those sexy sculpted legs and glutes? try this: stand facing a mirror with your hand BeautifulBrideMagazine.com

I
TRY IT ON!
I
abolish body types in my book and I am very passionate about this. There is just more to consider when finding your dress. Determining if you’re a pear, or an apple or whatever fruit won’t help you find your dress. I also tell brides, “do not let anyone compare you to a fruit”. Take it from me.
We make them white carpet ready, by trying on all sorts of options. When they see themselves, the emotions that come from within are unbelievable.
Body types don’t work because a woman who has an hourglass shape who is 4’11” and weighs 100 pounds is not going to look the same in a dress, as a woman is 5’11” and 350 pounds with an hourglass shape. Every single dress is cut different because human hands make the patterns. Sometimes you pick up a dress and it looks exactly the same as another dress, but this one for some reason is cut with more room in the bust or more room in the hips and it fits you differently. So you cannot go by those molds. I say this: try it on! You have to take all things into consideration and then make suggestions. And even though you have the suggestions, you still have to try the dress on. As soon as you say don’t wear a sweetheart neckline because you have a fuller bust, I can show you a sweetheart cut that is a little more full, where the bust just settles into the dress just beautifully. You just have to try the dress on!
Then I have so many people who say I am not wearing a veil, I ask them if they ever tried one on and they hadn’t. So I put them in a long veil, really low at the back of the head and all of the sudden they start crying, “I look like a bride!” And I say, “Yes! Because without a veil, you are just a pretty girl in a white dress.”

It is just like finding the guy. You may think you are going to marry tall dark and handsome - but you end up with short, blonde haired and blue eyed. Girls come in every day and say I hate lace I am not wearing lace. We go through every single thing in the salon and I finally get them in a lace gown. And they say, “oh my gosh I didn’t think that I would like it, but it looks great on me and I am so comfortable in it!” And that’s their gown!

A TOUCH OF CLASS By nicole traficante
Making the Right Gown Choice You probably have been dreaming of this day ever since you were a little girl, and by now, you most likely have a good idea of what you want your dress to look like. It is nice to be open to trying on different silhouettes. When selecting wedding dresses to try on, don’t conform to what you think you should wear. We are all able to select our casual attire, but have no idea what we will look best in on our wedding day. Allow yourself 12 months to search for the perfect gown and allow up to six weeks for alterations. Being open to trying on different styles allows you to make that perfect choice. Many brides-to-be spend endless days shuffling through wedding magazines and bridal boutiques, not having the slightest clue where to begin. And, the more dresses you try on, the harder it gets. If you feel like you are talking yourself into a dress or making changes to it, then

you haven’t found the one for you. Choose wisely your panel of judges when trying on gowns. Remember, you are the one who has to wear it and look at photos of it for the rest of your life. When you finally find the one, your wedding planning will take off. Usually the dress starts your design/theme to your wedding. Here are some styles that may help you narrow your search to finding your perfect gown.
Matching Styles to Figures The trick in shopping for a wedding gown is in knowing a few things: your body shape, the shape of your gown, how it works on your body and what, if anything, can be done with that shape to make it look best on you. Short and slender — Do: You have many options, and several different styles work well. Fitted, corset-style tops with accent beading around a dropped waist with a pick-up or A-line skirt. Empire gowns with beading or detail around bust area or train, but little to no detail in bodice area. These styles elongate the body and tend to bring the eye up. Don’t: Stay away from very full skirts that a small bride will get lost in or severe drop-waist dresses that bring the eye down. Strong mermaid styles with a large lace or detailed hem will also cut the bride off in the middle of the leg.

Petite with curves — Do: A bodice that draws the waist in is beautiful for this style. Strapless or off the shoulder is fine. The waist line is very flattering and forgiving and a semi pick-up or A-line skirt will detract from the hip area. A sweetheart neckline is also nice for curvy figures. Don’t: Make sure that the gown is in proportion to the figure. Too low a waistline could make the petite bride’s legs appear short and a ball gown with a too-full skirt could overwhelm her appearance. Tall and thin — Tall and thin brides are very lucky, because just about everything looks great. Do: Sheath, mermaid, dropwaist and silhouette style dresses in silk, charmeuse or all-over lace are gorgeous with this body frame. Don’t: Stay away from too full of a skirt, because you won’t be able to see the bride in the dress. Plus size — Corset-style bodices with a detailed waist line that angles down, fuller skirts and A-line or empire gowns are a winner for plus-size girls. The princess/Aline style provides graceful lines to a fuller figure, and it allows a bride to have a full skirt without bulk at the hips. Any details that bring the eye up and accentuate the bust line are also a good choice. Plus-size girls have chosen strapless and halter-style gowns with ribbed-corsets style bodices and pick-up skirts time and time again, and they always look beautiful. Be realistic and confident. Draw attention to your most positive assets and stay away

from your less positive assets. There are exceptions to every rule. Remember to take assessment of your own figure and of the gown you’re trying on. Beyond the trim and glimmer is a shape that will help you look your best.
Suit Your Style Traditional Ball Gown: The ball gown style is perfect for those brides envisioning a fairy tale wedding. This silhouette pairs a fitted bodice with a full skirt. The ball gown is most appropriate for large, traditional weddings where the dress will be consistent with the formality of the event. Mermaid: The mermaid silhouette contours to the body from the chest to the knee, then flares out to the hem. This is a very sexy look that highlights the curves of a woman’s body. For this reason, you must be confident and comfortable in your skin to pull off this dramatic style. A-line: The A-line dress features a shape that is fitted around the bodice and flows out to the ground, resembling the outline of an uppercase A. The dress flows fluidly from the bust to the hem with an unbroken line. Due to its classic and simple style, the A-line dress is appropriate for any occasion, from a quiet backyard gathering to a traditional church ceremony.

Empire: An empire dress is defined by the raised waistline that sits just below the bust, from which the rest of the dress flows down to the hem. This style is usually paired with a square neckline and wide set straps or sleeves. Like the A-line, the empire style is very versatile and can accommodate a wide range of formality.
Mom, It’s Your Day Too! This is a very special day for you! You’re about to watch your baby stand at the altar and get married, so you need to look your best, too. Traditionally, the dresses of the mothers of the bride and groom should coordinate, keeping in mind the overall look and style of the wedding. If there are any stepmothers involved in the wedding, it’s always thoughtful to give them a call to inform them what the other mothers are wearing. Mothers typically do not wear white dresses to the wedding. It is best to stick with a neutral color or a lighter color of the bridesmaids dresses. However, each mother is entitled to dress in the style she finds most comfortable. You want to allow yourself five months in advance to order a dress and allow up to six weeks for alterations.

Gown Preservation Your wedding day is over and you’ve run off to your honeymoon. After months of stressful planning and thousands of dollars later, it’s understandable that many newlywed brides want to forget everything about the wedding – including the precious wedding gown. But you will want to have your dress cleaned and preserved as soon as possible. You don’t want any stains to soak in and set. The typical dry cleaning and preservation will run about $150-$300. When buying your gown from a bridal salon, ask if they have any gown preservation discounts for purchasing your dress there. You should expect to have your gown back in twothree weeks. Before they box and preserve it, make sure they let you inspect the dress to ensure that all stains have been removed – or that all attempts have been made to remove the stains. At that time, give them any other keepsakes you would like preserved with the dress. Take the boxed dress home and store in a cool, dry and dark place in your house. Open the box to inspect the dress every five years or so, and your dress will be like new when the time comes to pass it down.

The Bridal Party The bridal party attire should reflect your style and color scheme. When choosing a bridesmaid gown, be sure to consider all the shapes and sizes of your bridesmaids. You want to make sure everyone is comfortable in the gown you pick. Your bridesmaids will be standing right next to you at your ceremony, and it’s especially important that their attire complements your gown. Matching accessories are a way to create a unified look and also make a great gift to your girls. Make sure that your flower girl can walk comfortably in her dress, especially if she is younger. The biggest trend in dresses for the bridal party is the wear-again dress, a gown that is not in its essence a bridesmaid dress, such as cocktail party-worthy frocks that vary from knee length to tea length. Also remember that the one-style-fitsall philosophy of bridal-party dressing is fairly passé, so consider dresses with various options such as hem and neckline modifications or a change in fabrics. Allow yourself six months in advance to order your dresses. Make sure you order them at the same time from the company, so that they come from the same dye lot.

The Colors of Love The brown family of colors is closely associated with warm, nurturing foods‚— think of coffee, cocoa and chocolate. Brown is often seen in nature, another element of nurturing and caring. By selecting wedding colors of these darker shades, the bride may be expressing her nurturing, caring, warm side. The same could be said of the many shades of green that are fast becoming available. No longer does the bride only have the choice of mint or pale green. Bridesmaids’ dresses are being offered in stronger shades of celery, jade and emerald. Hunter and forest greens are also popular, and may be seen as strong but nurturing. Jewel tones of any color are also very popular wedding colors, especially when planning a winter or holiday wedding. When choosing colors that are of a jewel tone, a bride can even mix up the shades for her table linens—emerald green and ruby red for a December wedding, for instance. Adding some sapphire blue and shades of gold can break up the colors and still keep the venue looking festive. Of course, those brides still prefer the softer wedding colors of the pastel family have a wealth

of options for them. Softer colors never go out of style, and are still seen as being romantic and even passionate. Additionally, by choosing softer colors, the bride knows that they will not overwhelm the setting or theme of the wedding. If you have a large number of bridesmaids and a huge banquet hall, choosing colors such as red and black as your accent can be too powerful, and can even cause the bride herself to get lost in the pictures! The larger the venue and number of attendants, the softer the color shades should be. Of course, these wedding colors can be mixed and matched as well. A bride may opt for her attendants to be in soft pink while the maid of honor is in a darker shade of rose red or light purple. If opting for soft wedding colors, you don’t want to make the mistake of having your venue or dresses look washed out or faded. A bride needs to make sure that there are some stronger accent colors to tie everything together.

Fancy Flora with Renée Strauss Top 10 Unexpected Ways to Incorporate Flowers Floral arrangements are the cornerstone of your wedding décor. Choose wisely!
Fancy Flora renée strauss
TOP UNEXPECTED WAYS TO INCORPORATE FLOWERS
Y
our floral arrangements are undoubtedly the cornerstone of your wedding décor. Therefore, the flowers you choose—and how you decide to display them—are one of the most important aspects of the overall planning for your big day. But how can you make your wedding flora stand out from what you’ve seen at other weddings (and on Pinterest)? Here are ten suggestions for using flowers in new ways— hopefully they’ll inspire your own ideas to bloom!

BeautifulBrideMagazine.com
1
BRIDE: Instead of wearing a traditional veil and bejeweled headpiece, consider choosing a festive flower wreath that adds a touch of romance to your bridal look instead. While a floral headdress might seem too “hippie,” having fresh flowers in your hair can actually be both sweet and elegant. Either match the flowers to the rest of your floral décor or don all white blossoms.
2
BRIDESMAIDS: Mix things up for your maids by having them wear wrist corsages rather than carry bouquets. Not only is this idea a more budget-conscious choice, but it also allows your maids to show off their pretty floral accessories while leaving their hands free to dance and eat throughout the night.
3
CEREMONY: Rather than a canopy or arch, create a wall of flowers that will go directly behind the celebrant as a backdrop to your ceremony. A wall of red roses or a burst of sunflowers will provide a gorgeous pop of color and serve as an unexpected focal point for your ceremony space. Another idea for changing up the typical ceremony flowers is to using garlands at the altar instead of vases or large arrangements on pillars. Garlands can be more whimsical and rustic, while larger arrangements have a more formal feel.
4
AISLE: Rather than a runner or flower petals, lay moss up the aisle. Doing so will add to the lushness of your setting, plus give you something soft underfoot as you make your way to your groom. This is an ideal choice for venues that don’t allow flower petals or for couples that don’t want to worry (or pay for) the often time-consuming cleanup that they require.
5
BALLROOM: Instead of doing a pipe and drape in the ballroom, create a step and repeat wall of ivy lit with ambient lighting. The casting shadows will set the mood, while the greenery of the ivy will provide an earthy, ethereal feel to the space. This is great way to dress up even the most simple of venues.
6
TABLES: For a more rustic-themed wedding, I love using faux grass on tables as tablecloths. This idea is especially useful if you’re holding your reception indoors and want to bring the outside in. This décor element eliminates the need for very ornate flower arrangements by providing both color and texture.
7
CAKE TABLE: Rather than simply sprinkling petals on the cake table, laden the table with petals and then place an acrylic topper over them. Use four short acrylic pedestals to keep the topper from crushing the petals and—voila!—a petal blanket is created. You could also try this on the sweetheart table to make where the bride and groom sit stand out more from the other tables.
8
BAR: In addition to small bunches of flowers adorning the bar, use edible flowers as garnishes for your cocktails. Adding just a simple detail like this one has very high impact, but it certainty won’t break the bank.
9
DÉCOR: If umbrellas are called for as part of your decor (or as a practicality due to a very sunny ceremony venue), have your florist enhance them with bursts of blossoms. Dressing up the umbrellas is an unexpected touch that will add another layer to your overall look. After the ceremony, you could even coordinate with your planner to use the umbrellas as part of the centerpieces, or somehow incorporate then into your general décor at the reception.
10
BATHROOM: It’s always a nice touch to dress up the restrooms slightly, but this gesture is all too often overlooked. Put arrangements in both the ladies’ and the men’s rooms will brighten up the space and allow for décor continuity at your reception.

edding flowers always add an important “wow” factor. But for even more drama, you can opt for tall, full pieces. We love the over-the-top look of Preston Bailey’s signature gigantic floral centerpiece. But then again, we love pretty much everything floral…and everything Preston does!
60
BeautifulBrideMagazine.com
We recently sat down with Preston to talk wedding flowers! What is the most important aspect of the wedding? The couple’s love, of course! Everything should be a reflection of the couple themselves, from the decor and menu, to the music. I always tell couples to think of the one thing that is the most important component to them and put most of their money there. That said; guests should feel they have had an experience, so it is essential to create a synergy between different aspects of the wedding and make sure to pay attention to detail. Set the tone with a striking entrance statement and then do your best to have little surprises for your guests throughout the evening. Walk us through the process you go through with each bride. Every client I work with is the most important client I am working with and I do my best to listen and pay very close attention to their dreams, desires, likes, dislikes and fears. My clients come to me and entrust me with helping to bring their greatest fantasies to life and I take that very seriously. We talk and connect and I show them three different concepts and designs. They choose the elements they like (or the whole design they love) and we move onto the next stage. It is a very collaborative process. I do not believe my clients should be surprised by their designs, only their guests.
Where does inspiration come from? I am inspired by the beauty of nature, the complex simplicity of a gorgeous flower, but mostly by my clients themselves. You can learn so much about someone by asking the right questions and really listening to them. By paying close attention to their likes and dislikes and focusing on them (and not yourself), you are able to really begin to understand their desires. As a designer, you want to create something beautiful, unique and interesting, but one must always remember that you are not designing for the self; you are designing for the client. It can take a while to “get it” and you must deal with the fact that there will be times when you think you have grasped the essence of a client, when really, you don’t get them at all. Is there anything else you’d like to tell brides? I always encourage my brides to allow the professionals they have hired for their event to do their jobs and enjoy their special day. It goes by so fast and it is important to enjoy the moment and share your love for your partner with your partner and your guests. And lastly, what is your favorite flower? I love all kinds of different flowers, but I love working with orchids the most, as they are very sensual and beautiful.
globally-celebrated for his unique ability to transform ordinary spaces into lush, theatrical environments, preston Bailey is known as the premier event designer for a client roster that includes celebrities, royal families, Ceo’s and athletes. known for his ability to transform the dreams of his clients into reality, Bailey is often sought out to create never-seen-before designs that serve as backdrops for some of the most memorable moments of their lives. Beautiful Flowers
A TOUCH OF COLOR
Say it with Flowers Choosing the right flowers can be one of the most important decisions you’ll make when planning your wedding. With a little work, and the help of a good wedding florist, it’s easy to get flowers that will be both memorable and reflect the bride’s individual style and personality. The following points can help you save time and, most importantly, money.
The Date is Key Keeping the date of your wedding in mind is crucial to selecting your flowers. This goes beyond the growing trend of weddings being on a Friday or Sunday, as opposed to Saturday. Spring and summer are ideal for using flowers like orchids, hydrangeas, roses and lilies, while autumn and winter are better suited to roses, lilies, narcissus, gardenia, mums and poinsettias. Just remember, you won’t be able to find every flower you want all year long.
The Budget is Important Figure out your budget and be up front with your florist. From there, you can figure out what flowers you like the most and what is available during the time of the year you’re getting married. Don’t 62
BeautifulBrideMagazine.com
wait until the last minute to order your flowers. It is usually a good idea to schedule a consultation about six to eight months in advance. By this time you will have a good idea of how many people will be attending, who will be in the bridal party, what they will be wearing and where the ceremony and reception are being held. Ordering well ahead of your date can ensure that you get what you want, and can often save you money.
Match Your Colors From traditional cascades to pomander flower kissing balls, anything goes. Brides are selecting more colorful flowers for their bouquets instead of the classic all-white, traditional bridal bouquet. Blues, reds, oranges, yellows and purples are gaining popularity for bouquets, centerpieces, corsages and boutonnières. Picking out the right color really depends on the themes and colors you’ve picked out for your invitations, cake, etc. and whether you want to match the dominant color or accent it with something else. A few color swatches and a visit to your florist can help you to decide which you prefer.

When picking the flowers that are right for your wedding, it’s a good idea to keep in mind where the wedding will be held. If the wedding is going to be outside, floral arches, columns, blooming plants and garden flowers are a great way to add a nice touch to the wedding. Beach weddings can be enhanced by simple flowers with bright colors or exotic and unique flowers that really complement the beach setting.
Pick the Flowers That are Right for You A rose by any other name may smell as sweet, but that doesn’t mean you have to use roses for your wedding. Orchids, tulips, hydrangeas, daffodils and even more exotic and unique flowers are common in today’s weddings. With a variety of colors and shapes, orchids have quickly become a highly popular flower for everything from centerpieces and bridal bouquets to the corsages and boutonnières. Using a unique flower is an easy and often affordable way to put your own stamp on your wedding, as well as match the setting that you’ve chosen for your special day. There’s nothing wrong with trading out the white rose for a purple orchid if it’s what your heart desires.

What’s Your Bouquet Style? with Colin Cowie Identify which Kind of Bouquet Fits Your Big Day’s Tone Best

What’s Your Bouquet Style?
J
ColIn CoWIe

ust when you thought deciding the types of flowers for your bouquet was all you had to do, brides also need to identify the style of arrangement that best works with their wedding’s personality. So, before you sit down with your floral designer to discuss, read on to identify which kind of bouquet fits your Big Day’s tone best.
For a classic, traditional, even formal wedding You’ll like: Nosegay bouquet What it is: This is the most common bouquet style today, though it originated in the Victorian era. It’s defined by a closely packed, uniform, globe-like arrangement of flowers. The stems, all cut to the same length, are wrapped tightly with ribbon and fastened. Often one color or type of flower dominates. It’s a simple style but don’t let that mislead you. It makes a huge impact. Best with: Roses, peonies
For a romantic, fairy-tale, girly wedding
For a casual, understated wedding You’ll like: Hand-tied bouquet What it is: This is also a hugely popular bouquet style. But unlike the nosegay, this arrangement is more loosely gathered for a more natural tone. The stems are also loosely tied with ribbon than the nosegay to add to the laid-back look. Best with: A mix of hydrangeas, dahlias, gerbera daisies, mini Calla lilies and thistle
For an over the top, lavish, extravagant wedding You’ll like: Composite bouquet What it is: Imagine the illusion of carrying one giant flower the size of a bouquet rather than a collection of flowers. This is the unique look that is achieved with a composite bouquet—a sophisticated style that not all florists are capable of making. Why? Because the look is achieved by handmaking a flower (dubbed a glamelia) by gluing or wiring together individual petals, one by one, onto a single stem.
You’ll like: Cascade bouquet
Best with: Roses, white lilies
What it is: This is the ultra-feminine, princess-y style of bouquet. Lady Diana carried it to marry Prince Charles in 1981. As its name suggests, think of a waterfall of flowers pouring out of a base and flowing downward. A variety of flower types can be used in this style of bouquet.
For a “homecoming queen for a day” wedding
Best with: White flowers like gardenias, stephanotis and orchids
You’ll like: Arm bouquet What it is: It is arranged so it can be nestled in one arm, not clutched in the hand (the better to wave to your guests this way). The flowers are often long-stemmed and loosely tied with ribbon. Though not the most popular style of bouquet today, when it is made, it is crafted with minimal, sculptural blooms to give it a more modern look. Best with: Calla lilies

What to wear was the next big question for Jackie...

JACQUELINE LEE BOUVIER (later Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis)

hen one thinks of Jackie (as the world once dubbed her in the White House) we think of classic a-lines in solid but true colors (pink was her favorite) pill-box hats and dark sun glasses. But years before she entered the world of fashion and politics, she was a studious and awkward young lady born of the manor and well versed in the finer things of life. She got a foothold in journalism reporting for the Washington Times-Herald (a very conservative paper) as an inquiring photographer. Here she was to meet and interview all walks of life from the street of Georgetown to Capital Hill. This is where she met John F. Kennedy: a very handsome, up-and-coming star in politics. After a few chance meetings and phone calls, and a short dating season, things were in place for the announcement of their forthcoming marriage. This was held off until an article could run on the young Senator as a Gay Bachelor and Jackie’s return from London - where she was sent to cover the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth. A date was set, September the 12th 1953, At Eleven O’clock, St Mary’s Church, Spring Street Newport, Rhode Island.
Bridal portrait of Jacqueline Lee Bouvier shows her in an Anne Lowedesigned wedding dress, a bouquet of flowers in her hands, New York, New York, 1953. (Photo by Bachrach/Getty Images)
What to wear was the next big question for Jackie...After traveling through Europe and following the style maven of the day (Audrey Hepburn) a simple and classic dress is what she had in mind. She started working with her dress-maker in DC, Mini Rhea, who had sewn for Jackie and knew her style and taste. Jackie’s mother (Janet Anchincloss) called her to Rhode Island and insisted that Ann Lowe make her gown, after all Ann had been sewing for all high society in Newport as well as New York City. So with the acceptance and help of Jackie, Ann started out to make the gown John Kennedy wanted, a very traditional gown with a full skirt. In later years Jackie referred to the dress as looking like a “fifties lamp shade”. Despite the acclaim coming in from around the world around the world, Jacqueline later admitted to friends that she didn’t like the dress, because it accentuated her flat chest. She was critical of the gown. The dress that would go on to become the most beloved and photographed dress in history! The one thing that stands out about Jackie’s search for the perfect dress, is she listened to and took the advice of her mother and soon to be husband.
Monte durham is the Fashion director on tlC’s hit show; say yes to the dress: atlanta, where he enjoys ‘jacking brides up’! he recently launched his own line of hair care products: Monte. In line with his passion for wedding history, Monte is the owner of a Jackie kennedy wedding dress replica, now holding court at the greenbrier. BeautifulBrideMagazine.com

THE FORMAL GUIDE
For the Groom-to-Be Even though they say it’s all about the bride, it’s just as important for you to look handsome in your tuxedo. You will be standing next to your blushing bride all day and will want to look back and see how dapper you looked as well.
Formal Affairs In selecting the tuxedo formal wear, keep in mind the formality of your wedding, the time of day and, of course, her gown. Use the following basic guidelines for the attire of the groom and ushers: • Consider darker colors for a fall or winter wedding and lighter colors for a spring or summer wedding. • When selecting a place to rent the tuxedo, check the reputation of the shop. Make sure they have a wide variety of designers and styles to choose from. It is very important that they have the tuxedo you are choosing in stock in case of an emergency.
80
BeautifulBrideMagazine.com
• Reserve tuxedos for the groom and ushers several weeks before the wedding to ensure a wide selection and to allow enough time for alterations. • Out-of-town men in your wedding party can be sized at any tuxedo shop. They can send their measurements to you or directly to the shop where you are going to rent your tuxedos.
Tux Tips Always try on the tuxedo at the first fitting and at the pickup of the rental. Don’t let any of your party take their tuxedos without trying it on. Register your wedding with a men’s formalwear specialist. Make sure at time of fitting your party is aware of a deposit or partial payment due. Don’t order a tuxedo from a catalog. If you cannot see the tuxedo or feel the fabric at the store, you may be disappointed with what you receive.
• Ask about the store’s return policy and be sure you delegate to the appropriate person (usually the best man) the responsibility of returning all tuxedos within the time allotted. • Ushers and groomsmen customarily pay for their own tuxedos.
Timeline 4-6 Months Before the Wedding: As soon as your bride and her bridesmaids have chosen their attire, you can start exploring options for formalwear. Most importantly: have your bride accompany you to shop for formalwear. After all, she is the only one that knows what her dress looks like.
Groom’s Personal Checklist vows and toast toothpaste and Brush tuxedo or suit hair gel Wedding rings razor and shaving Cream shoes and socks Money/Credit Cards/Checks Breath Mints
3-4 Months Before the Wedding: If you are buying a suit or tuxedo that will require extensive tailoring, or having your formalwear custom made, be sure to get fitted now. If you are getting married during a very busy wedding season, or prom time, you’ll want to reserve your rental formalwear now. 1 Month Before the Wedding: You want to make sure everyone has their measurements in one month prior to the wedding, allowing the shop enough time to have the order ready. If there are any changes since booking your party, you will want to have these in by now as well. 2 Days Before the Wedding: If you rented your formalwear, pick it up now. Whether you rented or purchased your formalwear, you should try on the entire ensemble to be sure everything is good to go. It’s a good idea to encourage your ushers and groomsmen to do the same so there are no wedding-day surprises. Out of Town Measurements: If you have a member of your bridal party from out of town and not able to arrive until your wedding, you will want to send his measurements in to your local tuxedo shop. Make sure he includes your name, the bride’s name, wedding date and your contact information, along with his measurements: coat size, chest, coat in-sleeve, coat over-arm, waist, out seam, neck, sleeve, height, weight and shoe size.

Beautiful Ceremonies VENUES, VOWS, MUSIC & OFFICIANTS
Planning Your Ceremony Your wedding ceremony is the core of your special day, and making it perfect requires careful planning. The most important detail is where your ceremony will take place. Will you be writing your wedding vows? What type of music will be played during your ceremony? Your best resources are your planner and officiant. Remember to keep in mind that planning your ceremony should be a bonding time for the bride and groom.
Finding the Perfect Place Whether it’s a classic church rich with tradition, a picturesque park with plush greenery, a romantic beach with gentles breezes or an intimate chapel with just your closest friends and family, choosing the right venue is just as important as choosing the right dress. Churches: Having your wedding in a church is the most traditional of wedding venues. It signifies your religious and spiritual commitment to your spouse and families. However, it can require advance planning in order to secure your date or if you desire to hold your wedding in a church in which you are not a member. Some churches won’t allow you to get married there if you are not a member. A church wedding may also mean that you have to follow specific rules; such as the style of attire for you and your guests, the type of music you can play, or not play, and how long you can stay in the venue after your wedding. A church ceremony should not require any special permits, but you will need to work closely with someone at the church on your details. Some religions require pre-marital classes or counseling, so be sure to factor that into you planning timeline. Chapels: When you say ‚“chapel wedding‚” most people follow with‚ “Vegas, baby!‚” Yes, Vegas is
synonymous with chapel weddings, but gone are the days of cheesy ceremonies and plastic flowers. Whether the chapel is in Vegas or not, they can be an intimate and elegant venue for tying the knot. They are often non-religious venues and allow for customization of the ceremony, music and can even be very liberal when it comes to bridal attire. While no permits may be required, you still need a marriage license and may need to provide your own minister. Parks: A garden or park wedding is perfect for the naturalists and nature lovers. The outdoors can provide just the right setting to create a one-of-akind wedding, with scenic views and plush greenery. Oftentimes, an outdoor wedding can come with little or no cost; however, there can be extras that you may need to supply when it comes to decor, electrical needs or bathroom facilities. When planning your event, don’t forget to look into any special permits that may be required. The last thing you would want is to show up on your special day only to be turned away. Beaches: Does saying your vows while barefoot in the sand sound ideal to you? Beach weddings provide romantic and breath-taking backdrops for photos. Imagine your first kiss photo in front of a golden sunset? Or saying I do at sunrise with the sound of waves in the background. Having your wedding on a beach can be beautiful, but be sure to ask about any permits that are needed and work closely with your wedding planner or decor company on the right prices. A beach wedding will come with only sand, so keep in mind that you may have to supply chairs for your guests and any other decor you would like, such as an archway or an aisle.
Writing Your Vows Wedding vows are an important part of your ceremony. Wedding vows are written to declare a BeautifulBrideMagazine.com

public commitment to your partner. When writing your vows, remember they should be no longer than two or three minutes. Exclude any embarrassing, lengthy or intimate details. The wedding vows, whether you write them or not, are the centerpiece of the ceremony. Do It Yourself Vow: If you are having a hard time coming up with your vows, sit down together and talk about why you two are getting married. Make sure that the two of you are alone and that no one is going to bother you—once you two get interrupted, it may be hard to pick up where you left off. The reasons that the two of you come up with would be a good way to start writing your wedding vows. Another good way to start is to sit and think about what you two mean to each other. Then tell each other how you feel. He may think of something totally different about you than what you think of him. Think of different, yet meaningful statements to tell each other while you’re sitting together. Make it as easy and enjoyable as you can. Your wedding vows can consist of your fears, your hopes, your dreams and your goals. The wedding vows can also be just about your love together. It can be pretty much about anything you want it to be, as long as you’re writing it. Make sure the words are coming from your heart. Don’t forget, if you want your own voice in your vows, you can make them sentimental, lighthearted and cute, witty, simple, or short and sweet. Traditional Vows: Yes, you can still be traditional even if you aren’t sticking to the prepared wedding vow script. If you are aiming to be very traditional, all you need to do to prepare is to look up a traditional wedding vow with phrases such as, “In the name of God,” or “From this moment, I (name) promise to take you (name), to be my wife/ husband…” Once you find a traditional vow you like, rewrite it to fit your own personal feelings toward your partner. You Need Help Vows: One of the blessings of the Internet is that you can find a quote on almost everything. Soccer and marriage? Just Google it! You’ll certainly find two or three quotes that you can make fit this situation. A good metaphor can guide a marriage.

Ceremony Music Adds just the Right Touch Contemporary couples are choosing music for their wedding ceremonies that fits their personalities. Of course, if the bride and groom are religious, or if your ceremony location requires it, religious music is perfectly appropriate. Otherwise, consider adding a bit of contemporary flair to your musical selections. Wedding Ceremony Music while Guests are Being Seated: Most guests tend to arrive 20-30 minutes before the ceremony begins so they can get good seats. Don’t leave them sitting in silence; entertain them with some witty and fun selections about love and marriage. Wedding Processional Music: Depending on the size of your wedding party, and the order of your processional, you’ll probably want two or three songs. The bride traditionally gets a song all to herself. This is really setting the stage for the ceremony and important ritual that’s about to take place, so they should have some pomp and circumstance to them. Mid-Ceremony Music: If you have friends who play music, or are hiring professional musicians for your ceremony, you might want to have them perform during the ceremony. This is particularly appropriate if you are having a unity candle ceremony or other unique element. Recessional Music: As the wedding party walks back down the aisle, choose something celebratory and upbeat that will help your guests get in the mood for dancing at the reception.
Selecting Your Officiate Two essential factors to consider in selecting a wedding officiate are professional qualifications and ministry. Officiating a wedding is more than reciting words and making pronouncements. Talk to different officiates before you choose one. Ask if you can observe a ceremony they are performing in a public place. Try to get someone who will be involved with your plans. These individuals are usually the people who will care the most about your special day.
He said… “Will you?” She said…“Yes!”

rides and grooms can often spend several months scouting out the perfect reception venue. Before you waste precious planning time, take a minute to visualize your guests at your event. But just like trying on dresses … while you may have one idea in mind, you can end up with something totally different. Today there are more places and times to celebrate your nuptials than ever before. Your reception venue becomes the canvas on which you will apply your vision. Clear your mind of any preconceived ideas about where you should have your wedding. Choosing the right reception venue requires careful analysis. But before venturing too far, consider the “elementary” needs of your guests. After all, it wouldn’t be much of a party if no one showed up! Begin by thinking globally and clear your mind of any preconceived ideas about where you should have your wedding. Choosing the right reception venue for your wedding is more of a science than an art. It requires careful analysis, playing the part of Sherlock Holmes, to choose a site that best suits your needs. But before venturing too far, consider the “elementary” needs of your guests. After all, it wouldn’t be much of a party if no one showed up! Now start to visualize the atmosphere for your party. Is it a captivating marble stone beaux-arts structure, a breathtaking 360-degree view of cresting waves or does a mansion graced by Persian carpets, crystal chandeliers, silk wall coverings and 18th century furniture speak to you? Your options are endless. Here are some ideas to help you make that important decision.

Schedule of Events The first step to planning a stress-free wedding reception is to write out a schedule of events in advance, with or without a planner: the receiving line is something nice to have if you are having a large wedding reception. exchange a brief, but warm, wish as guests pass by. after a nice cocktail hour, it’s time to be introduced as husband and wife for the first time ever (often the dJ or band leader does this). the first dance often takes place right after the wedding party is announced or after dinner. Wedding toasts and speeches can add a memorable and personal note. If there is anyone you don’t want to make a toast, be sure to let your dJ or band leader know who they are. you certainly don’t want any embarrassing or drunk toasts. time to eat comes after the toasts. avoid planning the cake cutting too late; guests aren’t supposed to leave before that and you don’t want them to miss it. toward the end of the reception would be the time to toss the bouquet and garter. It is customary for the bride and groom to leave the reception before anyone else does.
The Jet Setters For the jet-setting couple who loves to travel, enjoys adventure and globetrotting, consider some of these party venues: Aircraft Carrier Aircraft Hangar Cruise Ship
Paddle Wheel Steam Boat Railroad Train Sailboat
“A nature- and water-loving bride would choose a yacht for her wedding. Being on the water is naturally relaxing and neither land nor air; it is a place that would also be very memorable and exciting.” -Will Candis, Classic Harbor Line Yachts in NYC
The Modern Intellectuals For the sophisticated and creative couple, the couple who may have studied art or world culture and the couple who has a particular interest or hobby. Aquarium Art Museum Aviation Museum
Natural History Museum Planetarium Sports Museum
“Libraries and museums often have a lot of history; most city libraries have marble floors and gorgeous staircases, ready for a great photo. Art museums boast unique architecture, and your guests will be surrounded by original art work. Museums in a city setting will often have spectacular rooftop views too.” -Stacey Halstead of Create the Moment
The Naturalists For the nature lovers or the couple whose first date may have been on a hike or in a park. If you are a lover of gorgeous flower gardens, lush greenery or white sandy beaches, this is the ideal consideration for your reception. Arboretum Beach Garden - Botanical, Rose
Caverns Meadow / Pasture Park - City, State or National
“If you enjoy hiking, camping, or fishing, getting married outdoors may be just your cup of tea. Whether you prefer a mountaintop, a lakeside or a meadow, wilderness areas can provide just the right setting to create a one-of-a-kind wedding. The logistics involved in planning a wilderness wedding can be huge and the cost is often higher than a city wedding.” -Glenna Tooman, Memory Makers Event Planning, LLC
The Foodies For the foodies who love food & wine pairings and have a great taste for great tastes. The couple may have discovered this love of food together and are incorporating their love into their wedding. Apple Orchard Bakery Brewery
Cooking School Restaurant Winery
“These venues are what we often call ‘open,’ meaning that at a winery they are doing tours or tastings and at a country club, you will have members who are golfing and dining. These facilities may impose some restrictions on the start time of weddings. Some may want your event to start after they have closed their retail doors to the public or their members. Be sure to keep this in mind when booking your preferred date and time.” -Angie Zimmerman, Heavenly Yours Events BeautifulBrideMagazine.com

Table décor also adds to the ambiance of the room. Fabrics, lighting, flowers, fountains, arches and props can be used in any combination to provide a one-of-a-kind look. Reception Etiquette: Make no mistake; wedding etiquette is still very much alive. Having good manners is always in style. Your wedding day is your wedding day and you have the right to be happy, but you should remain gracious, kind and hospitable at the same time. • If you invite someone to the ceremony, it is proper etiquette to include them in the reception. • Circulate at the reception; the guests should be one of your main focuses.
Now that You Have the Venue, Let the Party Begin! Wedding receptions are about personality and creativity. Your wedding is not your mother’s or your grandmother’s. It’s not your best friend’s wedding, either. This is your once-in-a-lifetime event—and not an inexpensive one. Take advantage of your time in the spotlight to put together a wedding reception event that really shines. Tips for Outdoor Weddings: Heat, humidity and rain are big considerations if you plan on having an outdoor wedding. Sunset weddings tend to be the most popular when laying out the timeline of an outdoor wedding. Providing tents for your guests to shield them from the sun will be a greatly appreciated amenity. You might even consider renting misters. Having an outdoor wedding can offer great views and scenery for your guests and photos. Heat, humidity and rain are big considerations for an outdoor wedding. While sunset weddings tend to be the most popular, be sure to consider some sort of shade for your guests. You might even consider renting misters. Rental companies can provide everything you could need or imagine to put together the ultimate outdoors wedding. Planning Your Reception: Many reception and banquet coordinators will have a standard preset timeline. Meet with your planner and include, or eliminate, any events that you want or do not want at your reception. Every wedding is special and needs customizing. Most coordinators will accommodate to make your wedding perfect for you.. Reception Décor and Services: Do you want to handle every detail yourselves or hand the job over to a decorating professional? Keep in mind that the decorating will have to be executed on the day of the wedding. Do you want to handle every detail yourself or hire a professional? The first impression of the reception starts at the front door. 92

• If people bring gifts to the reception, assign one of your bridesmaids or a family member to take them home for you. A Catered Affair: If your reception is going to be held in a venue that does not provide food, consider hiring a caterer. A caterer will be of great value in handling the preparing, cooking, decorating and serving of the food for your wedding. • When you hire a caterer, check to see if the location for your reception offers refrigeration and cooking equipment. • Ask your caterer for references and look at photos from previous parties so you can see and know how the food will be presented. • Make sure you have a written contract with your caterer stating all the details of what they will be doing.

Sylvia Weinstock steps outside the world of cakes, and provides valuable insight to all things wedding related. No matter how frustrating, confusing or overwhelming wedding planning can be, with Sylvia’s abundance of experience and knowledge, she’ll provide the answers and advice to help you have a remarkably dignified wedding. Q: Some of the “wedding rules” I’ve come across don’t seem necessary, but this peaked my interest: what is the correct way for a bride and her bridesmaids to hold their bouquets? Is there a correct way? Does it matter!? (Charlotte F., Westport CT) A: there are not that many ways to hold a bouquet, but generally if the bridesmaids are escorted down the aisle they should hold the bouquet in one hand, or have it cradled in their arm. If the bridesmaid walks down the aisle alone she can hold the bouquet with both hands in front of her…. and there you have it! What are the top ways couples can have gorgeous arrangements at their wedding without breaking their floral budget? (Emily, S., Pacific Palisades CA) Why not substitute candles, tall and short, around the table in place of huge floral arrangements? you can even scatter small / low florals on the tables with candles, using “julip” cups or even flowers floating in a water bowl? another tip is to try and stay seasonal with your choices so the flowers can be sourced locally instead of imported from another region or country. remember, it’s your day, so choose what makes you happy and keeps you to your budget. My fiancée and I want to have our unique personalities shine in our wedding décor. Floral décor in particular. Do you have any out of the box ideas for floral arrangements? Besides centerpieces, are there other areas I communicate my style? (Hannah R., Houston TX)
hannah, why not use small potted plants, either florals or even herbs, that guests can take away with them? that’s one way is to show individuality, but it will also depend on the venue. If it is an informal event, like a wedding brunch or lunch, beautiful cups and saucers can be the containers for floral décor. a rustic setting could mean wooden boxes, and baskets instead of crystal vases or metal constructions to hold flowers. out-of-the-box enough for you? look around your own home and re-imagine the use of some of the objects you love… Our wedding is over a year away, and while I am very eager for it to come, I feel like planning now is getting ahead of myself. When should I contact and book a floral designer? How should I go about choosing one? (Michelle T., Boston MA) have you picked the month? the venue? number of guests you want to attend? the floral designer cannot work out of the blue. have you decided the color of your dress? are you having attendants? What is the color of their dress? your flower designer will need to know these details to create the designs that work in that space, at that time of year, to compliment the other colors you’ve chosen… and don’t forget to set a budget. Flowers costs can easily get out of control so if you have a number in mind, share it with your designer and work together to stay within limits. and don’t forget to have fun, Michelle — it’s a beautiful time of your life!
I know it’d offend my mom if I gave my step-mom the same flowers as her. Do they all get corsages? (Casey G., Miami FL) Floral corsages are not necessary, but if it’s something you would like to do, Casey, just check the colors of all mothers’ gowns and try to match/complement each mother color with the appropriate floral corsage. It is a way to avoid all conflicts, while being gracious and thoughtful to all the ladies! We are planning a destination wedding in Costa Rica, which I am planning myself. I currently live in Kansas and I was wondering if we should use real flowers or ship silk flowers down there. Will silk flowers be too tacky? (Rachel, Atlanta GA) lucky for you, rachel — Costa rica is practically a flower garden! you are getting married in paradise; the country has an astonishing 100 species of orchids alone! there are also roses in every color imaginable, white lilies, tulips, snapdragons and sunflowers. Forget the silks, just pick a local florist (perhaps have a large hotel recommend someone reputable) and see what they can do for you. the season will probably dictate what’s best, but you are guaranteed a wonderful selection…like the movie says, you’re not in kansas anymore! You’re invited to participate in our “Ask Sylvia Weinstock!” column. Questions submitted by you, and selected by Beautiful Bride, will be answered by Sylvia Weinstock. The questions published will include your name, last initial and city of residence (i.e., Ashley R., Cincinnati). Please submit your questions to asksylvia@ beautifulbridemagazine.com.

Sweet Treats for Your Wedding There have been traditional food-oriented wedding favors for years such as small, personalized tins of mints or miniature boxes of Jordan almonds. But today’s truly gourmet wedding favors take food treats to the next level. Gourmet cookies with custom icing, gourmet popcorn and fun cupcakes also make lovely wedding favors for your guests. Another wedding favor that has moved up a notch in years is chocolates. Remember, gourmet doesn’t apply just to food; wine is also a wonderful option for wedding favors.

Ceremony Music Made Perfect
Y
EXPRESS HOW YOU FEEL ABOUT EACH OTHER THROUGH YOUR SONG CHOICE
Y
our wedding ceremony presents an incredible opportunity to set the tone for your celebration and to make an emotional impact that is uniquely yours. How is this done? Simple: through the power of music. Here are some distinct ways to make a difference: One is with your choice of instruments and/or vocals. Traditional ceremony music often makes use of instruments such as strings, piano, harp, flute or classical guitar. However, musical presentations can include other unique sounds from bagpipes to the flugelhorn. And there’s no limit to the style of music performed. Yes, classical has an understated elegance, however, there are many non-traditional ways to achieve this. The most important element to consider is the emotion that you want to convey. Do you want to have strong religious undertones, or to have somber, fun, perhaps even silly and extremely upbeat vibe (think of those Youtube videos of the bridal party dancing down the aisle to a hip hop beat!)? The best way to express how you feel about each other is through your song choice.
Sinatra and Tony Bennett but was afraid that if the band were to perform more than one or two such songs, it might “kill the party.” The couple both loved strings. A great solution: a string quartet performed the groom’s favorite romantic Sinatra and Bennett ballads while the guests arrived and took their seats. As the bride walked down the aisle, the strings performed her favorite romantic French Cabaret song. The couple also had a very silly sense of humor and talked about how they had just enjoyed a Monty Python movie so we had the strings play “Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life” as the recessional. Needless to say, theirs was a completely unique and personal ceremony that truly expressed how they felt about each other. When it comes to your ceremony music, go with your heart. Allow yourselves to be open to possibilites, and the stress of deciding what to do will fade away. The process of planning your ceremony music can be a fun and wonderful bonding experience for the two of you and your guests!
Forget about any preconceived notions and simply think about your favorite music and instruments. For example, a recent bride I worked with had an affinity for French Cabaret music. The groom loved standards by Frank

things your guests Won’t tell you
THINGS your guests Won’t tell you
I
4
If you accept that perspective, what would you do differently? If you’ve been a guest at one, or more weddings, what would you have liked to have told the newly married couple, but you couldn’t (or you and other guests just told each other, quietly at the table or afterwards)? here are things that your guests won’t tell you (unless they’re brutally honest or blunt).
5
remember hearing Colin Cowie speak to a group of Wedding planners in nyC. he said that he tells his couples (who are spending millions on their weddings) that it’s not really their wedding. It’s their first chance, as a married couple, to host a party for their friends and family. that surprised me as we always think of weddings as being for and about the couple. the ceremony is definitely for and about the couple. the party that follows is a celebration of that marriage, with your closest family and friends.
1
Your guests won’t thank you for making your mom, sister, best friend or maid of honor work on your wedding day. they’re not wedding planners. they’re your closest family and friends. let them mingle, dance and enjoy the day.
2
Your guests won’t thank you for making them wait while you take pictures. sure, they’ll eat, they’ll drink, but if it takes too long they’ll start wondering where you are. they were invited to celebrate with you.
3
Your guests won’t tell you that you put way too many things on your wedding registry. Make it easy for them to buy you the things that you really want. It’s hard for guests to know which things you really want (like a beautiful honeymoon, fire pit or down payment on a house), when there are 0 items on there. give them the option to contribute dollars towards your registry so you can choose how to use it. also, understand that a gift should not be required. you invited them to share your wedding day, not to necessarily have to pay for the privilege. If they want to give a gift, make it easy.
Your guests want to see, and hear your ceremony. ask them to stay in their seats so everyone else can see. If you’ve hired professional photographer and videographer (real, experienced professionals), and you share the photos with them (easy enough to do with online proofing these days), they’ll all be able to see and hear you taking your vows. have someone ask everyone to turn off his or her ringers as well. you don’t want to hear a phone ringing on your wedding video. everyone has a camera phone, but that doesn’t make him or her a professional. don’t let them get in the way. you’re investing good money in professional photos.
Your guests won’t thank you for hiring the cheapest wedding vendors. they don’t care how much you paid; they only care about what they see and experience. an ipod is not a dJ. your uncle is not a professional videographer and won’t know where to stand, to not be in everyone’s way. that Craig’s list vendor you hired is cheap for a reason. don’t hire cheap. hire the best value. Follow your priorities and invest in them. you won’t be happy when the photos aren’t what you wanted or the dance floor is empty. you know what it’s like to be a guest at a wedding, remember that when making your choices. If it’s summer time, make sure there’s shade for your outdoor ceremony. Make sure there’s air conditioning. don’t just pray that it won’t rain, or won’t be 110 degrees… have a real plan for it. put yourself in the shoes of your 100, 00 or more guests and have them raving to you about how great everything was. you don’t always get kudos for doing it right, but you almost always lose points for doing it wrong. I wish you, and your guests, a very happy wedding.

Picture Perfect The Story of Your Day
pICture perFeCt The Story of Your Day
W
hether the wedding is an outdoor, casual event or a black-tie affair; every couple wants the memories of their wedding to be picture perfect. photojournalism is the buzz word for modern weddings. Forget the staged shots. photographers now focus on telling the story of your special day as it unfolds. From the pre-ceremony preparations to the last dance, they capture the events with wedding photography/video that records the unique emotions of your special day. Whether it’s the bride’s heartfelt hug with her dad or the flower girl and ring bearer dancing, it catches the spontaneous and touching moments in an artistic and unobtrusive way.
Choosing Your Photographer and/ or Videographer
available for their wedding date. so book your photographer and videographer as soon as you know your wedding date and budget. send an invitation and a map to them as well. research as many local photographers and videographers as possible. ask your married friends to see their pictures and videos and ask about their experience with the people they chose. this way you can make an informed decision about whom you hire. these days, every photographer should have a website or blog. If they don’t have one, you may not want to consider them; it could be that they aren’t up on today’s trends. the website will give you insight as to the style and quality that they provide.
When you interview your photographer and/or videographer, ask if he or she is going to be the one who is taking the pictures/video at your wedding or if there will be multiple people. Most photographers and videographers will bring along an assistant for additional shots.
Be honest, especially if you can’t afford the price. lay out your budget and ask how they can work with you. Most photographers are flexible, and have a variety of packages they can customize. Finally, if you can’t afford the photographer and there isn’t any chance to make it work, ask for a referral.
It is common for most brides to book their photographer and videographer far in advance to ensure the company is
try to find a photographer and videographer who is accommodating, tactful and organized. plan a final meeting to go over all the details of your day with everyone involved. look for packages that include a twophotographer coverage to capture the overall story of your wedding day, allowing more details and two different perspectives to be captured for the best overall end result. For the person who will be holding the camera, make sure he or she brings out the best in everyone. you’ll want to know if they have a great personality up front.
Videographer Specific long after the vows have been said, cake has been cut and the songs have ended; the memories of your wedding day live on through your wedding video. 102
BeautifulBrideMagazine.com
When choosing your videographer, ask to see demo tapes of other weddings they have shot. a good, reputable videographer will have plenty of samples to show you. If they don’t, consider that a red flag. the ideal video would be a wedding from start to finish, not just a highlight-reel. different companies shoot weddings in different styles. Choose the style that best fits you and your fiancé.
Photographer and/ or Videographer Checklist How long have you been in business? Do you give any guarantees on your services?
Choose someone you feel comfortable around and can trust to capture one of the most important days of your life.
What’s your philosophy to shooting weddings?
and finally, be patient. editing the video is not only important, but also time consuming. When meeting with potential videographers, be sure to ask how long your final video will be, how many versions you will receive (i.e., one full-length version and a highlight video?) and how many copies of the final product you can get, too.
Will you be shooting our wedding personally?
“Pro” or “Joe”
Do you have backup equipment and shooters?
Is your videographer still working with a camera from decades ago? or are they using the latest technology that would make others want to bring popcorn when they watch your wedding video?
Video Format Be sure to ask what format your wedding video will be. If it’s possible, why not have the feel of the theatre in your home?
“Sundance” or “Spielberg” on that same token, know the direction you want your wedding to be viewed in. do you want it to be a cinematic masterpiece? or do want it to be raw like a documentary? ultimately, this will determine the overall vibe of how your wedding will be remembered when watched.
From Coast to Coast ask if your videographer offers instant webcasting. It is the latest advance to make it seem like your friends and family are right there with you—wherever they may be.
What Does “Hands On” Really Mean? some videographers film your wedding and then send the footage to another company to edit it. It’s important to know the company you are hiring will be same company that will film and edit your wedding and not contracted out to an outside source.
Where to Start? Bridal shows are the perfect place to search for your ideal videographer.
What is your style? What do you plan to do at my wedding to make my imagery unique and personal to me?
Who will I be dealing with after the wedding? How will you show the selections (e.g., electronic, proofs, contact sheets, online gallery, etc.)? What’s your time frame for preparing my selections? Will you help me choose the final pictures? How long do I have to make up my mind on the final edits and quantities? How will our friends and family order prints? Are there different degrees of coverage? What are the costs of the various levels of coverage? How much for the duplicate prints, albums, folios, enlargements, thank you cards, etc.? Will you have an assistant? Do you have travel fees? How much is your overtime fee? What’s your payment policy? BeautifulBrideMagazine.com

Arrive in Style
Arrive in Style The Ride for the Bride
THE RIDE FOR THE BRIDE
I
t’s your wedding, so why not arrive in style? Nothing is more exciting than pulling up to your ceremony location and making a graceful exit out of a beautiful stretch limo. Renting a limo can have you feeling like royalty on your wedding day and leave a big impact on your guests. Luxury limousines do a great job in adding style and charm to a wedding. Reserving transportation for you and your bridal party is a detail that should not be overlooked. Now that you’ve decided on renting vehicles for your wedding transportation, what is next?
Style How you arrive should compliment your own personal style and your wedding. How do you envision your arrival and getaway: A white stretch limo? A monster-sized Hummer? Various styles and colors of limousines are available to suit any taste or style. You can choose the type: a stretch limo, a classic car, Lincoln, Hummer, Bentley or even your own car. And the color: white, black, silver or even purple! Many vehicles now come with mini bars, dance areas and a great sound system to get the party started.
Budget Be sure to talk costs and what the costs include from per-hour rate to overtime charges and gratuities. Be sure to compare costs, too. You may find that renting one larger vehicle is more budget friendly than smaller options. When factoring in a gratuity, estimate about 15-20 percent of the total. It is also 104
BeautifulBrideMagazine.com
wise to designate a member of your bridal party to handle the payments on-site for you; that is just one less thing to worry about on your big day.
Headcount How many in your bridal party will be riding with you? Don’t forget about parents, siblings, grandparents and other special attendants. Are you providing transportation for the guests to go from the hotel to the ceremony and the reception? Although not required, it is a nice gesture if your budget can accommodate. One bus may just do the trick, depending on how many guests that may be.
Details When booking your reservation, be clear on your details to the rental company. It is important that they understand where and when to pick up your group so they can factor in enough time for travel.
Don’t be Late Always factor in a few extra minutes for traffic, construction or getting lost. It doesn’t hurt to bring a copy of the directions with you, just in case the driver isn’t certain of where to go. This is not the day to discover the scenic route. Prepare a list of pick-up and drop-off locations, directions to each location and a point of contact at each. This will relieve you of having to field phone calls while getting ready. Be extra prepared and give each point of contact a set of directions. With a little extra attention to the details, you are sure to arrive in style … and on time.

love and Marriage Why Flowers have to pay for the Mistakes of Men…
love and MarrIage Why Flowers have to Pay for the Mistakes of Men…
W
hy is it: when men want to make a woman happy they get them flowers? this symbol is almost universal and yet not well understood. the significance of flowers for men and women is something worth exploring. First and foremost - flowers are a “woman’s thing” and are gender stereotyped. as much as we want to be progressive, giving flowers to a man doesn’t work. that doesn’t mean that men don’t appreciate their beauty or the fragrance there is just no emotional connotation. But why do flowers have to pay for the mistakes of men? this practice of using flowers as a peace offering has created a multi-million dollar industry. Fresh flowers are imported from all over the world, every day and in every season! that alone tells us how much we rely upon flowers. there are poems, songs, movies, novels and personal anecdotes about the significance of flowers in relationships: “you don’t bring me flowers any more” (sound familiar?). For some men, giving flowers out of the blue is a risky move. the offering could trigger a thought like “why is he giving me flowers?” and the whole enterprise could backfire. the cultural implications that flowers have are deeply rooted. even little girls are conditioned to relate good feelings to flowers. and, although men are not socially trained in those ways, they quickly learn how effective flowers can be to help to achieve their own goals.
since trade secrets will be revealed, please read only the tip for your gender…
Guys: We all think that more is better. But, when it comes to flowers, you receive the same “points” from one rose that you do from 0! save your money, and instead of sending $100.00 worth of roses, just bring her one and be totally present! tell her how much you love her, appreciate all she does for you, that you are committed to the relationship forever and that there is no more beautiful woman in your eyes than her! Communicate to her everything you want that flower to say.
Gals: among all the things you already feel and believe, when a man gives you flowers - know this: they are truly stepping out of their comfort zone to do a tremendous display of affection. For them, it’s like having a huge banner on their back that says “I am vulnerable” - which goes against a man’s core! next time he shows up at your door with flowers (or a flower) remember that it not only takes thought and money, it also takes guts and commitment to do it. diamonds might be women’s best friend but for men flowers do the trick!

A Wedding is Your Own Special Event
everyone likes something unique; a special gift that is made locally, a wonderful accessory to “Feather your nest.” Brides always deserve and appreciate experiencing their own individuality and love gifts that are “one of a kind”, just like her. When shopping for the bride, keep her in mind. look for things that would be meaningful and special for her.
I said yes, now where do I start?
Before you set the date, book the church or call vendors and determine your budget. after announcing your engagement, schedule a meeting with your parents to determine what everyone “can” contribute. discuss your vision, guest count and their expectations for the wedding. Most importantly, financially plan for the number of guest invited not expected rsvps.
– TERRI OGLETREE, drapery designs, etc. Inc. – IRENE TYNDALE, the Wedding & event specialist
Sitting Pretty
Matte skin photographs the best because it does not reflect the light. Create a smooth finish and make sure you have powder the day of the wedding to touch up as the day goes on. define your eyes then choose a soft neutral shade. Be sure to wear waterproof mascara. lipstick changes color when applied so choose in advance and top it with pink or bronze lip-gloss for a shinny finish. - TERESA SCHISSLER-BOICHOT, Independent Beauty Consultant
Testing…Testing!
doing a hair and makeup trial is a must. If you are not happy, you’ll have time to change it or shop around. If you have sensitive skin, bring your own products to avoid a reaction that could possibly ruin ceremony and honeymoon pictures. take pictures at the trial of both hair and makeup, to ensure the perfect look! – RUSTY TIDWELL, hair & Makeup, Claiborne salon atlanta

iselle and todd met in college where they began dating. after college, giselle went on to Barry university and todd moved back to atlanta. the two lost touch. a few years later, giselle came to visit todd and celebrate his baptism. that weekend, he told her that he loved her. they’ve been together ever since. robyn, giselle’s good friend and todd’s trusted proposal-planner, invited the couple to join her and her husband at a “fancy work gala”. the imaginary gala event was supposedly on november 1, 010 at pm at the elegant georgian terrace hotel on peachtree st. in the heart of atlanta. When the couple entered the hotel, they were told that the gala was in fact, next week. todd insisted that they eat at the restaurant, since they were already dressed up and there. once they got comfortable todd continued to comment on how beautiful giselle looked. he also reminded her of how long they had been together and spoke of the many reasons he fell in love with her. then he slowly took a knee and pulled the box out of his pocket and opened it. then he asked “Will you Marry Me?” grinning from ear to ear she replied “awww babe, yes! I love you Babe!”

PRO TIPS Atlanta Don’t Overspend
to keep from overspending on your dress, set a specific budget and stick to it. When you set up an appointment to try on gown, ask the price range of the store’s gowns. don’t try on anything above your budget, because you don’t want to fall in love with something you can’t afford! – CARRIE HUYETT, Carrie’s Bridal Collection
Room for Everyone
you send out your invites, and notice one of the groom’s best friends rsvp’d for one. sure enough, he and his girlfriend broke up. at the ceremony, you notice said friend is standing with his old girlfriend. By adding a couple of extra chairs (to the ceremony and reception) will help alleviate potential problems. – CRICKET RUSSELL, social Catering Manager, Melia atlanta hotel

PRO TIPS Central Valley A Photographers Lighting
Make sure your wedding photographer can handle all lighting conditions, not only those present on a nice sunny day. look at images they shot after sunset and during the reception. the images of a more capable photographer will properly light not only the subjects but the scene/ venue as well. the after sunset images won’t look like “flashed” mug shots. – DOUG MORGAN, Morgan James photography
Flawless Fit
When considering chair covers you will need to determine what chairs you will be using, whether they are through a rental company, or through your venue. understanding whether they are folding chairs, or banquet chairs prior to calling for pricing will not only ensure a correct quote for the service, but also a perfect chair cover fit at your event.

Make Her Heart Skip
quality is everything when looking for a diamond. Find that special one that makes her heart skip a beat and her eyes sparkle. remember no two diamonds are alike. each is as unique as you are. ask you local jeweler about the C’s (Cut, Color, Clarity, Carat Weight) and find the one that she will love forever! – CARLA CICCARELLI, Ciccarelli Jewelersl
Be Selective
your dJ will set the mood and keep the party going. Be very selective when choosing your dJ, by meeting them in person to find the right one. If you’re seeking a platinum style wedding, you don’t want the “hey, hey, hey” dJ. Meeting multiple dJs to find the best suited for your event will be worth the effort as your party unfolds exactly as you hoped it would. – TODD DAVIS, sound express dJs
Match it Perfectly
Color is the most important aspect of your wedding. Make sure you present your florist and decorator with a swatch of your color. With a picture, colors may appear lighter or darker than they really are. By using a swatch, the colors of your linens, table dressing, reception backdrop, flowers and bouquet ribbon can be matched perfectly. – AILIN YADEGARIAN, Wedding & event Consultant, yonan’s Floral
Find The Venue That Has It All
When shopping for tuxedos, look for a store that has in-stock merchandise. this is a big plus in assuring your gentlemen will be properly attired. you will be able to look at actual colors of accessories, try on items to assure a proper fit and see what style tuxedo would be the best compliment to the groom and his party. More importantly, a store with inventory on hand will be able to accommodate any last minute orders, changes or adjustments.

ee and ashley met at gold lounge. he was a dJ and she was a Cocktail Waitress. they started off as friends but began dating shortly after. lee had planned to propose to ashley on Christmas morning, but couldn’t contain his excitement. so on a lazy night at home while watching movies, lee surprised ashley with a beautiful diamond ring and asked her to marry him. she of course said “yes!” the couple chose a beautiful saturday in september, at the charming siena golf Club. they opted for a very rich, romantic and classic vibe. the red and cream roses complimented the ivory, champagne and deep red silk linens. the guests were swept away with enchantment as the couple danced to adele’s rendition of the “love song.” they kicked up the party with a Michael Jackson impersonator for a fun, entertaining twist sentimental homemade items could be seen throughout the day. From the ceremony fans to the reception table cards (each table was named after a vegas casino) to the special table displaying a photo of ashley’s grandfather. the day was perfect! ashley’s advice to other brides is that it all works out in the end! don’t get caught up in the small stuff, because you are marrying the person you love - and that’s most important. 144

Christine eventually caught Christian’s eye, and they became friends. their connection grew and the two called it official. after moving into their new/first home together, Christian told Christine that he had purchased their dogs new collars. she looked at them and they said “say ‘yes’ mommy!” Christian got down on one knee and proposed! the couple eloped in new york, but returned to vegas to plan a wedding bash for their families to enjoy. they had a minimal yet elegant wedding. the mismatched purples created a modern ombre appeal. their wedding was littered with personal touches, making the day intimate and their own. Christine had “C&C” embroidered in the tulle of her dress in blue, while Christian wore the cufflinks Christine had bought him. PRO TIPS Vegas The Perfect Wedding Location
hold your ceremony and reception at the same venue; consider a destination location that provides outdoor ceremony sites. Be sure the location has an indoor “Inclement Weather plan”, catering, food and beverage services, and guest room’s accommodations, this way your guests can enjoy a worry-free getaway while sharing in your special day. – ROBERT ADAM, director of Catering & Conference services, the Westin lake las vegas resort & spa
Plan Ahead
plan ahead—even if you are not sure of your actual numbers for your wedding. It is always best to start booking at the higher numbers for tables, chairs, linens or chair covers. It is always easier to take away than add if your numbers go up at a rental store. Most rental companies will ask for at least 0 percent down and 100 percent the week of your event if it is booked more than 0 days out. – DESIREE LEDESMA, rsvp party and tent rentals
Your Invitations
your invitations are the first items your guests receive and they set the entire tone and mood for the event, so make them memorable! Choose unique options that are special to your relationship and make sure to enclose necessary information, such as itineraries and accommodations, to assist your guests. Make your invites special with creative elements and they will become treasured keepsakes of your special day! – CATHY COLBERT, 1st Impressions Invitations
Keep Photography in Your Timeline
Most couples that know photography is a very important part of your big day. Make sure you include your photographer when planning your timeline. the most common mistake we see is that couples don’t include time for romantic photos of just the bride and groom. skilled and caring photographers will spend the extra time to listen to you and give experienced input on your day’s timeline. – MINDY BEAN, Mindy Bean photography

It is very important that you get along with your photographer as you’ll be spending a large part of the day with them, and if you do not like them, you will not get good photographs. If the photographer you are interviewing is someone you like, this is a great start. If they make you feel negative for any reason, you are better off looking elsewhere. – JOSHUA BARUT, Josh and Jen photography
Fashionable Bridesmaids Dresses
dreading bridesmaids dresses are a thing of the past. Bridesmaids can now feel comfortable knowing that they are wearing a great dress that they can wear again to another party or event. pockets and shorter hemlines are very much in style. Mixing and matching the dress style but unifying it with fabric and color is a great way to ensure each bridesmaid is comfortable in her dress. – JAMIE JOHNSON, Bella Bridesmaid

Know What You Want Before You Start Looking
don’t overlook the basic, first steps. have some ideas and examples ready to present to your coordinator. have your own food menu and bar package suggestions. have a color scheme and seating layout in mind. have your numbers ready (number of guests, date of event, time of event, etc.) don’t drop in unexpectedly; always make appointments to meet your vendors and for site visits. understand, and be realistic, about your budget. and know your guests’ tastes.

since summer weddings tend to be the priciest, plan to have your wedding on a day other than saturday, which is the most popular day to get married. opting for a Friday or sunday wedding instead will save you money and because most venues tend not to get booked up on those days, you’ll have a better chance of getting your dream wedding. – PATRICK BRYANT, director of special events and Catering, Michael Corrigan restaurant group, vintner grill, vintner grill strip, agave and roadrunner restaurants

Embrace Your Personality
Wedding gowns have personality, be sure to find one that matches yours. the best compliment you can get on your gown is “that dress is so her,” not “that’s a pretty dress.” you have to look like you on your wedding day, so be sure to try on and buy a dress that reflects your personality. also be sure to shop in advance, wedding dresses can take up to six months to be custom ordered. – EVANA HULSEY, owner, Bowties Bridal
Tuxedo Tips
When shopping for tuxedos, look for a store that has in-stock merchandise. this is a big plus in assuring your gentlemen will be properly attired. you will be able to look at actual colors of accessories, try on items to assure a proper fit and see what style tuxedo would be the best compliment to the groom and his party. More importantly, a store with inventory on hand will be able to accommodate any last minute orders, changes or adjustments. MIKKA MOON, tuxedo Junction

Piece of Cake PRO TIPS Spotlight Guest Seating Assignments
are you looking for fun ways of letting your guests know what table they are assigned to? take the traditional idea of numbered tables and modernize it with printed numbers wrapped around wine bottles or tall cylindrical glass candle holders. or try photos that have the bride and groom holding each table number. But 1, and is not the only way to assign wedding reception guest dining table seating. If you’re not a numbers gal, try some of these ideas: here in las vegas, couples will often name their tables after strip casinos such as Caesars palace, paris, Bellagio, using actual laminated photos of the hotels and placing on tables in clear plastic standing frames. along the same line, you could use names of playing cards (ace, king, etc,) or table games (poker, roulette, etc). Movie lovers can name tables with movie titles and memorabilia of their favorite films. Consider a collection of comedies, horror films, action flicks or movies filmed in las vegas (hangover, rain Man, oceans 11, etc). to support these concepts you will need to display something like the following at the entrance to the reception: placecards – individual tent cards placed in alphabetical order by guest’s last name - this should also show their table number or table name and entrée selection if a plated dinner. diagrams on easels or hand-written chalkboards showing names or numbers of tables and their locations. listing these in alphabetical order by last name is the easier for the guests to find their name than by table number. an additional idea to assist guests in understanding their table assignments is to assign a friend or family member to the welcome table. this person can check guests in and explain where their tables are and troubleshoot any cancellations or last minute unexpected guests. PRO TIPS Orlando Perfecting the Atmosphere with Lighting
event lighting is the most necessary part of event design. perfectly executed and devised lighting design can take a basic ballroom into an elegantly inspiring event. understand the ambiance and the atmosphere of your chosen venue. this will help dictate what type of décor will give you the vision you want to achieve. you don’t want you guests unable to grasp the ‘vision’ you are aiming for due to insufficient lighting of the room. – ALLISON Y. GAUTHIER, pBC, special events, Coordinator, get lit lighting productions
Leave the Sweets to a Professional
there is so much to be done for your big day that it is best to leave the candy buffet to a professional company. they will spend the time with table sizes, candy needed, containers, set up, breakdown and restocking of the buffet. It is one less thing for you to have to worry about. leave it to a professional and take time to enjoy your big day. – LORRAINE ELLIS, Candy Consultant, orlando Candy Buffet
Guest Lists
When you begin the planning process, I highly suggest starting with your budget and your guest list. Many couples know the amount they have to spend, but without a guest list, it’s hard to know how far that money has to go. having more guests doesn’t just mean more food; it means more of everything. don’t just guess how many people might attend. sit down with your fiancé and your families to get a solid first draft of everyone you want to invite. It will give you an idea of how far you may need to stretch your budget. – CHRISTY SUBLER, owner, anna Christine events

Your Priorities
the most important detail you can decide for your wedding is the date and location. your guests and vendors can’t plan anything until those two items are set. that generally starts your timeline and really starts all the fun planning. While you are planning, develop a realistic timeline. By doing this you can see what tasks need the most advanced planning and those that will just fall into place monthly. – TONI CURLIN, director of sales, Wedding specialist, heathrow Country Club
Point of Contact
Introduce your wedding planner to a few of your family members or close friends, as he or she will be working closely with them to ensure that your wedding goes off flawlessly. since most of the time your focus will be on enjoying your special day, these family members will be the first point of contact for the planner. – CANDACE DYER, Wedding Coordinator/ owner at posh soirees
Design Your Vision
Creating the perfect ambiance for your wedding reception is essential; it sets the tone and reflects your style. start collecting photos of things you like, its great inspiration for your vendors. We create mock-up boards throughout our process so brides not only have a visual of how their dream wedding will come to life, but keeps us all on track with making decisions, staying on budget and focusing on priorities. – SUZANNE NICHOLS and ALISHA BORRELLI, designer events by suzanne nichols, design group
About You
Incorporate your favorite things into your wedding, and really have your personalities shine through. remember this is more than just an awesome party it’s two people proclaiming their love in front of their friends and family. Whatever you choose, don’t lose sight that it is about the two of you- so don’t sweat the small stuff because at the end of the day, the only thing that matters is that you are married! – ADRIENNE RUNDELL Clearly In Focus photography
When and How to Select Your Gown
selecting a gown is probably the most important thing a bride will do. start your search early - it may take up to or months for a gown to arrive after it’s been ordered. Build in an additional - weeks for alterations, depending on the amount and/ or complexity of the changes. Finally, be sure to pick a style that flatters your figure and reflects your personality. – RANIA HATOUM, rania hatoum Collection
Don’t Let Your RSVP’s Cause You Stress
I’ve seen so many couples make the mistake of sending their invitations out late or having the rsvp deadline too close to their wedding date. that is one way to potentially cause yourself so much more stress than you might already be getting at this time. the sooner you can finalize your guest count and any special needs, the sooner you can finalize everything with your vendors and breathe towards the end. – BRITTANY JOHNSON, event Coordinator, Cocktails Catering

during a weekend visit to north Carolina, alex proposed in the gardens at the Biltmore estate. “It was one of the best and most beautiful moments of my life,” remembers Jennifer. the bride’s visionary wedding came to life at heathrow Country Club. Complete with bright purple and green spring colors and personal touches that made the day intimate. the couple’s two schnauzers were incorporated into the day as figurines on the cake.
her advice for brides, “once all the planning is done, and you’re about to marry the man of your dreams, relax and enjoy every minute. let others take control and cater to you. It’s your day, stop worrying. obviously, except for my dad missing it; the day was amazing!”

Marriage License Info California law requires a couple to obtain a marriage license in order to have a legally binding wedding ceremony. California requires proof of identification and a license application fee. In San Diego it will cost you $70 for a public license and $89 for the confidential marriage license. There is no waiting period or blood tests in San Diego. Each person must present one form of valid photo identification with proof of age. To expedite the identification process, it is recommended that both parties bring a certified copy of their birth certificate. Couples applying for a marriage license must be unmarried. onique and sean met when attending university of san diego. the couple dated for 10 years before getting married! sean picked Monique up from work on a Friday evening and told her they were going somewhere for her birthday. he drove her to santa Monica for dinner and then proposed to her during an intimate stroll on the pier. the couple chose the picturesque Catamaran resort and spa for their Fall wedding surrounded by everything you’d expect in a world class resort. the tropical gardens and bay front location offered a stunning backdrop for their wedding. the best part of the day, remembers Monique, “was seeing sean for the first time during our first look.” she advises other brides to “just enjoy the day and not to worry about the things you don’t have control of. everything will turn out perfectly! “Working with tracey amernick, CpCe and her team of professionals at the Catamaran resort and spa made our wedding a magical experience and day!”

Steps to Have Perfect Wedding Hair
there are three things that you need to do when deciding on your wedding hair. 1. Find pictures of the kinds of styles you are looking for. . research stylists and find someone you are comfortable with. . Most importantly; do a trIal. this way you can determine what you like and do not like, so the wedding day turns out perfect! – HEATHER MOLCHANOFF, hot seat salon
Keep Your Style Timeless
When selecting jewelry for your bridesmaid, keep in mind that styles do change often. Choose jewelry that is classic & timeless. a simple drop necklace with diamond accents that compliment their neckline would be something to treasure and enjoy forever. keep your look elegant, stay away from fashion jewelry with bold colors and cluster’s that make your look more casual.
Work Hard
get help when you need it. Brides shouldn’t be afraid to get help planning their wedding. getting planning help doesn’t mean you can’t handle it yourself, it just means that you were smart enough to know that you didn’t have to. – YVONNE PROUT, san diego Wedding shoppe
A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words
the three most important aspects of your wedding would be the venue, your dress and documentation of this amazing day. ask your photographer to shoot your rehearsal so he/ she can get an idea of the conditions during your ceremony time and it gives them an opportunity to meet the bridal party and close family. allow plenty of time to shoot your bridal party prior to walking down the aisle! - STEPHANI DENNIS, stephani dennis photography
