LOCAL REAL ESTATE FIRM CELEBRATES SEASON OF GIVING Real estate agents active throughout the community over the holidays. by Staff Writers The sound of bells rang out as local real estate agents and staff from Jackson Hole Sotheby’s International Realty, clad in Santa hats, greeted holiday shoppers outside of K-Mart earlier in December. The day has become an annual tradition for the brokerage, whose agents partner with the local branch of the Salvation Army for its signature holiday fund raising campaign. Associate Broker Ed Liebzeit, who organized the event, noted that all of the funds raised through local bell ringing campaigns for the Salvation Army stay within the community. All told, fourteen volunteers from the brokerage rang in the day with a red apron and a healthy measure of holiday cheer, some even made it a family affair. For the past several years, Associate Broker Babbs Weissman has challenged members of the real estate community to think of those who are in need of assistance during the cold winter months surrounding the holidays. When the temperatures plummeted in

the beginning of December, Weissman wondered about the needs of area families who may be struggling to make ends meet this time of year. She was particularly concerned with those who may not qualify to receive subsidies or support with their utility bills. To that end, Weissman contacted Lower Valley to better understand how Jackson Hole Sotheby’s International Realty agents might be able to help. She found out that there were 8 – 10 families that were at risk of having their utilities disconnected. Weissman rallied agents from the brokerage into writing checks directly to Lower Valley to help those families stay warm through the holidays. Weissman continued to search for additional outlets to help families in need during the holidays. She found via One 22 (the nonprofit created from the merger of The Community Resource Center, El Puente and The Latino Resource Center) that there was a demand for winter coats this season and established a coat drive. Additionally, she encouraged Jackson Hole Sotheby’s International Realty agents to donate essential food items to the Jackson Cupboard through a brokerage food drive. Agent donations of non-perishables and supporting funds helped to alleviate some

of the demand that the Food Cupboard experiences this time of year—one of its busiest times. “A commitment to the community is an essential quality of this group of agents,” said Donna Clinton, Managing Broker at Jackson Hole Sotheby’s International Realty. “They are active and engaged in the community throughout the year, but during the holiday season is especially important for us to reach out to our friends and neighbors however we can.”
