Explore wildlife wonders in Wales

Visitors wanting a revitalising break full of unforgettable moments should look no further than a trip to the rugged Welsh coast; a chance to fill their lungs with fresh sea air, take in bracing views and even spot some dolphins. For an adventure unlike any other, why not spend some time in the enchanting Cardigan Bay, home to one of the biggest dolphin pods in the UK? This coastline is a hotspot for spying the majestic mammals, so wide-eyed visitors can grab a picnic and flask of hot tea for some bay-side dolphin spotting, or jump on a boat trip with A Bay to Remember for an unforgettable up-close experience. Lovers of the outdoors can take the chance to experience these coastal delights during Visit Wales’ official Year of Outdoors. Cost: A one-hour boat trip costs £26 for adults and £13 for children, available from March to October.

Glide through a Scottish Loch

For expansive landscapes blooming with fauna and flora, vast woodland and breath-taking lochs, head on over to explore Scotland’s wonderful spring scenery. A great place to start a springtime Scottish adventure is Loch Morlich, which is nestled in the picturesque Cairngorms National Park. Fans of cruising will cherish the memory of gently gliding through the calm loch surrounded by the great outdoors; even beginners can enjoy an instructed kayak trip through the loch. Visitors should not miss the chance to explore these stunning waters in 2020, during VisitScotland’s official Year of Coasts and Waters. Those curious to sample a taste of Scotland’s coasts can book onto a day or weekend foraging course with Wildwood Bushcraft. Teaching small groups the art of coastal foraging, responsible fishing and selecting edible seaweed, the courses end with a delicious cooked meal gathered from the fresh Scottish waters just 35 miles from Fort William. Cost: Canoe hire reopens for spring in April 2020 and costs £8 per person for half an hour. Lessons for beginners are also available, with an instructed kayaking session costing £30. Foraging weekends are priced at £180 per person, with dates available in April 2020.

Sail in the Isles of Scilly

For a unique British adventure along mesmerising coastlines, take a trip to the beautiful Isles of Scilly, a cluster of five inhabited islands surrounded by azure blue waters. Located just off the Cornish coast, they are known for being the county’s very own tropical paradise. Visitors can hop aboard a sailboat and enjoy the fresh sea air. Alternatively, take a trip on SeaQuest, Scilly’s glassbottomed boat, for a mesmerising underwater safari. After a day spent enjoying Scilly’s clear waters, visitors in early spring can enjoy an evening of world-renowned star gazing, as the isles are an official Dark Skies location. Noted for having low light-pollution which makes the night sky spectacularly clear, visitors can bring a blanket, glasses and a bottle of fizz for a romantic evening under the sparkling stars. Visit the islands of Bryher or St Mary’s for some out-of-this-world dark skies. Cost: An accompanied day sailboat experience costs £125 for three hours or £165 for a full day. SeaQuest trips start from £14 for one hour.

Spy seals and puffins on Lindisfarne

Want to experience Britain’s natural beauty at a relaxed pace this spring? Travel to Northumberland’s historic Lindisfarne for medieval ruins, traditional pubs and the chance to see a unique walled garden. Also known as Holy Island, this charming tidal refuge offers a slice of rustic coastal life and a glimpse into Britain’s rich history. One unmissable stop is The Gertrude Jekyll garden. Nestled beside the wonderful Lindisfarne Castle, this rustic oasis dates back to 1911 and boasts vegetable patches, herbs and many beautiful blooms. Animal enthusiasts can also hop on a boat and travel to the nearby Farne Islands for a chance to spot colonies of fluffy puffins and grey seals that can be found basking on the rugged island rocks. Cost: The medieval ruins of Lindisfarne Priory cost £8.00 for adults, £4.80 for children under 16 and £20.80 for a family ticket. An all-day bird watching excursion in the Farne Islands costs £40. Grey seal spotting trips cost £15 per person.

Soak up spring blossoms in Manchester

Manchester may be one of Britain’s most bustling cities, but just outside the busy centre visitors can find historic houses, perfectly pruned gardens and rustic countryside to hike in. One such springtime stop off close to Manchester is the historic house and gardens of Tatton Park. A delight for any green-fingered visitor, the spring months bring pale-pink cherry blossom to the Japanese garden, a blanket of bluebells to the arboretum and mean the traditional Italian garden is in full bloom. For a taste of the wilder side of the British countryside, visitors can hike their way to an outdoor adventure in the Manchester Peak District. The first National Park in the UK, the Peak District offers a wide range of landscapes and rock formations. One of the most iconic in the Manchester area is the Trinnacle, found on Saddleworth Moor, Oldham, which looks down on to the tranquil Dove Stone Reservoir. Cost: Entry to Tatton Park is £7 for adults, £5 for children and £19 for a family of five or less. (All prices quoted correct at the time of writing)

Did you know… … if you pitch up and leave your ‘van unattended overnight, you must tell your insurer?

With the longer days and Summer holidays ahead, we wish to remind our touring caravan insurance policyholders to be aware of the “not in use” clause that is within the majority of touring caravan insurance policies. Most tourer owners are unaware of this clause, which, in some cases, could see an insurance claim rejected if the caravan was "abandoned" at the time of the claim. For example, if you take your tourer on holiday and then leave it unattended where it is pitched for a few days - perhaps, due to violent illness meaning you go into hospital or, when simply pitching up then going off somewhere else - you could find in the event of a claim that you are not covered. This is because your insurance premiums are calculated on the caravan being stored at a storage site / at home or, being lived in while pitched up somewhere. Touring caravan sites are less secure and more easily accessed - so are at more risk of being stolen, damaged or broken in to.

@cover4caravans

If you leave your caravan at a pitch even for a few days and go off elsewhere, it is essential to speak to your insurer and let them know. At least that way, they are aware of the circumstances and can advise if there is an additional premium to pay - giving you peace of mind that you are covered. So, if your holiday or break is cut short due to an unforeseen or unplanned circumstance that requires you to leave your caravan at a pitch, at least you will know if your tourer is covered or not. It is as simple as giving your insurer a call. Do you have more questions? Please call us on 01702 606301 – we’d love to help!

My Secret Life Hello there! I’m Tyler Allen, and I'm an Account Handler at Cover4Caravans. I have worked here for about six months after having completed work experience. In my spare time, I love learning and also training in combat sports. Studying and being on the Robotics team I finished sixth form in 2019 with ‘A’ levels in History, Chemistry and Physics along with an EPQ (Extended Project Qualification) on the subject of overpopulation. Currently, I am studying ‘A’ level Mathematics and will be undertaking ‘A’ level Computer Science in the summer. I have always enjoyed learning because I have a desire for knowledge and being conversant in several fields. One of my proudest achievements of sixth form was being on the Robotics team - this was part of a national competition which gave me the opportunity to assist in the designing, programming and overall development of our own robot. Sadly, we could not attend the competition due to transportation issues,

but I am sure our robot would have accomplished its task efficiently! Combat sports and Mike Tyson In addition to studying, I became interested in the world of boxing when I was 15. I became a fan of Mike Tyson after watching some of his legendary knockouts and, to this day, he remains my undisputed, all-time favourite boxer. At the age of 17, I started boxing training solely for the fitness aspect of the sport. I quickly discovered the demanding reality of the level of fitness required. As a result of the training over the years, I have observed an increase in my athletic ability which has helped me live a healthier and more cheerful life (other than when I get a black eye).

@cover4caravans

I also enjoy mixed martial arts (MMA). I have spent many hours watching some antique fights and learning new skills to use from them. I began my MMA training when I was 18 and now go to MMA twice a week. One session is in hard sparring and the other is in practising technique and grappling. It is by far the most straining on the body sport I have ever engaged in as you have to defend against a variety of attacks such as punches, kicks, knees, elbows and grappling attempts. It is, however, the most rewarding sport I have participated in due to the skills I have learnt and one day, I hope to compete for fun and to test myself.

Here we speak to Abbie Dudley, Assistant Manager of Office & Facilities at the beautiful Cakes & Ale Holiday Park on the Suffolk coast. She tells us what it is really like running a site. Abbie says:

Cakes and Ale is primarily a family-run business, and we are a relatively small team, but we are all very passionate about what we do. We aim to offer the perfect environment for our guests to relax and unwind in our haven of peace and tranquillity.

to our customers regarding caravan storage This is an important reminder to our customers that if you change storage location for your Touring Caravan, you MUST inform us immediately. Failure to do so may invalidate your Insurance Policy.

Where can I store my van?

It is imperative that we have the correct information relating to where your Touring Caravan is stored to ensure that it is kept at a secure, insurerapproved location. We approve various locations including but not limited to: CaSSOA Storage Sites, Home Driveways, dedicated caravan storage sites etc. Leaving your Touring Caravan in unsecure places such as communal parking areas, pub car parks, a friend’s field etc. leaves it vulnerable to theft and damage. In fact, because of the high risk of loss or damage, typically no caravan insurance provider will agree to insure a Touring Caravan that is stored at an unsecure and unofficial location such as these.

Don’t delay, contact us! If you have recently moved your Touring Caravan to a new storage location and have not informed us, please call us today on 01702 606301.
