Spruce up your static home With Spring nearly upon us, why not spruce up your static home in readiness for enjoying the warmer weather? The good news is that you don’t necessarily need a vast budget to do so either. A few basic things can change its ambience entirely.
New cushions and upholstery
Decorative items
You don’t need to rush to a designer boutique in order to secure some very good quality and highly attractive slip-on upholstery. The same is true for cushions, both in terms of upholstery and their internals.
Tastes and fashions in decorative items change over time. True, most of us probably can’t afford to follow fashion to the extent that we change all our decorative possessions every other season but even so, it might be time for a new look.
Changing your colour scheme and replacing those scrunched-up cushions can make an immediate and major positive impact on your surroundings. TIP: Aim to buy new cushions, rather than getting some from a charity shop and washing them – this could remove the effectiveness of the flame retardant material.
Flooring Just normal footfall traffic over time can start to make any flooring look as though it needs resuscitation. Things such as lino floor tiles (and similar) are now really very affordable and they’re typically far better quality than those available just a few years ago. It’s perhaps worth spending a little more than the absolute minimum here in order to get more durable flooring if you can afford to do so but even if you do, the costs are not likely to be prohibitive.
Visit www.cover4caravans.co.uk or please call us on 01702 606301
Whatever your tastes are, modest decorative items are usually available for relatively small amounts of money from retailers and perhaps even less from boot sales etc. They can make a huge difference to how your room looks. Don’t forget, you may be able to sell the old ones on Ebay or at a boot fair to contribute towards the cost of replacement.
Lighting Modern LED systems are not only highly energy-efficient but today are also often set in mountings in stunningly attractive styles. Replacing those old lights and suspensions and replacing them with more up-to-date versions will make an immediate positive impact on your décor.
up” and deliver light, are now the stuff of history. The modern ones are superb and it’s worth checking them out.
Bathrooms It’s possible for shower rooms and bathrooms to also start to suddenly look very dated. In reality, completely ripping out your existing shower and replacing it with state-of-the-art systems is likely to be expensive. However, after giving it a good scrub, and by simply adding in a few extras such as towel racks, dispensers and stylish WC seats, you can transform the look and feel of this area for relatively small sums.
Doing more than just sprucing up your ‘van? Just a reminder - if you are doing more than just a general ‘spruce up’ but are making major changes to the interior of your static home (such as putting in a new kitchen), please let us know so we can check that the cover levels of your static caravan insurance are still adequate.
In passing, some of those old annoying features of LED lighting, such as waiting for several minutes after switching on for them to “warm

Celebrating Coventry City of Culture 2021 Modern and wonderfully diverse, yet packed with history, Coventry City of Culture 2021 will celebrate the city’s rich and eclectic heritage. Found in the heart of the West Midlands, less than 20 miles from Birmingham, a series of citywide projects and installations will delve into city’s past, while looking to build a lasting legacy for the visitors of tomorrow. Covering everything from art and design to music and theatrical performances, Coventry City of Culture is set to get underway with Coventry Moves on 15 May. Photos and words courtesy of VisitBritain.com.
Engineering the future Britain’s car industry can trace its roots to Coventry and the city’s rich manufacturing and engineering past is celebrated at the Coventry Transport Museum, where visitors can discover the world’s largest collection of British-made vehicles. The city is also the only place in the country to have housed three cathedrals in the last thousand years. The ruin of Coventry Cathedral, destroyed in 1940 during the Second World War, now serves as a memorial space for the city and is symbolic of peace and reconciliation. Its modern counterpart, finished in 1962, stands adjacent to the 14th century ruin.
Honouring art and culture The Turner Prize, named after the renowned painter J.M.W Turner, will visit the Midlands for the first time in its history as part of the City of Culture programme. Coventry’s Herbert Art Gallery and Museum will showcase works from shortlisted artists from late September until mid-January 2022, with the winner revealed on 1 December. As one of the world’s bestknown prizes for visual art, the four artists to be shortlisted will be revealed in the spring. October will also see the commencement of the third Coventry Biennial, a four-month programme of exhibitions in studios, galleries and an array of other locations across Warwickshire and the city. Titled Hyper-Possible, the 2021 edition is set to focus on the role of art and language in the

1960s and 1970s, as well as the influences of the BLK Art Group in the 1980s. Comprised of four British-Caribbean artists based in the Midlands, and inspired by the Black Arts Movement in the USA, the BLK Art Group transformed the world of British art and inspired more black artists to document their experiences. Running in June and July, The Tides Within Us is set to explore the journey of oxygen through the body, through a number of immersive audio-visual artworks. The outdoor exhibition in Charterhouse Heritage Park will be suitable for those of all ages and promises to spark the imagination. Held in the surroundings of Paxton’s Arboretum, part of the Grade I-listed London Road Cemetery created in 1847 by Joseph Paxton, the exhibition promises to be a feast for the senses. The Walk will welcome 3.5-metre-tall puppet Little Amal to Coventry in July, as part of an International Art project taking in eight countries. Representing a young refugee, Little Amal is travelling more than 8,000km from the Turkey/ Syrian border to raise awareness of the crisis facing refugees across Europe, and a series of events will take place in Coventry to mark her arrival. Highly Sprung are also set to deliver CastAway between July and August, an outdoor theatre production exploring the impact of plastic pollution on the world’s waterways. As part of a
