Welcome to the Spring edition of the Cover4Caravans newsletter
Firstly, a very warm welcome from me, and hopefully you are all happy and healthy. As I write this the caravan season is in full swing (where does the time ago, it only seems like days since Christmas) and the weather is good. What more can we ask for! I’m hoping for a trip to York soon which, as long-time readers will know, is my favourite destination. Hopefully you have either managed to get away or are planning to do so, the demand as you probably know is huge at the moment as we all strive for some “normality”, whatever that is these days. All reasons to be optimistic for once! On the subject of optimism, here is the Spring edition of our Cover4Caravans’s Newsletter with our usual collection of insightful, informative and (hopefully) interesting articles. We always value your feedback. And please do enter our Wordsearch competition, we love looking through your entries and who knows, the £50 Amazon voucher could be yours - who wouldn’t want that!
What’s in this edition? Did you know … if you pitch up and leave your ‘van unattended overnight, you must tell your insurer? With the longer days and Summer holidays ahead, we wish to remind our touring caravan insurance policyholders to be aware of the “not in use” clause that is within the majority of touring caravan insurance policies.

Most tourer owners are unaware of this clause, which, in some cases, could see an insurance claim rejected if the caravan was "abandoned" at the time of the claim. For example, if you take your tourer on holiday and then leave it unattended where it is pitched for a few days - perhaps, due to violent illness meaning you go into hospital or, when simply pitching up then going off somewhere else - you could find in the event of a claim that you are not covered.
it comes to storing all the kit, gear, and household bits and pieces you’ll need on holiday. Here we look at some storage ideas for your static caravan – some of them you’ll already have tried, but others might open up new ways of making the most of even the most restricted space.

If you leave your caravan at a pitch even for a few days and go off elsewhere, it is essential to speak to your insurer and let them know. At least that way, they are aware of the circumstances and can advise if there is an additional premium to pay - giving you peace of mind that you are covered. So, if your holiday or break is cut short due to an unforeseen or unplanned circumstance that requires you to leave your caravan at a pitch, at least you will know if your tourer is covered or not. It is as simple as giving your insurer a call. Do you have more questions? Please call us on 01702 606301 – we’d love to help!

2022 – A Cover4Team Crystal Ball? Those of a certain age (well me anyway!) will remember the beginnings of the National Lottery in 1994. I remember the big finger pointing at someone with a booming voice to note “IT COULD BE YOU!!”. Anyway, that’s not really the point, on the show every week was Mystic Meg who made predictions on the potential winner. Hey, it was the ‘90s for goodness sake! So, in the spirit of Mystic Meg (maybe call me Mystic Mike?) we asked the Cover4Team what the rest of 2022 will look like and if they could do anything … and we mean anything … what would that
Amelia Timson – Account Handler
Jasmine Goodger – Account Handler
My goal is to be more outgoing in 2022 and the year will see a happier, healthy me! I would love to look back on 2022 as the year I went to countries I haven’t been to yet; I have a bucket list!
By the end of the year, I want to do my “22 Challenge” and read 22 books in 2022, I’m onto book number 3 already so it’s going well! I will also learn to drive and take my dog for a walk every single day. I would dearly love to go swimming every day and to visit an ashram to do some yoga!
Mia Conran – Account Handler A little different from me, I will have learnt Spanish by the end of the year, and hopefully a few trips to Spain all being well! I also want to spend more time with my family and friends and enjoy the little things in life. My ideal year would see me travelling the world and exploring different cultures and countries.
Sarah Clarke – Senior Account Handle At the end of 2022 I will be more organised in my home life and my “other life” as a scout leader - it’s about time! I would love to hold a huge family party – there are a lot of us so it would have to be! It would be great to have everyone together again.
Megan Herbert – Senior Account Handler
Lauren Eastall – Account Handler
This may sound a bit boring but me and my boyfriend have just bought our first home, and really, I would love to be “handier” around the house. Jobs like drilling/sanding down doors and painting would be great skills to have by the end of the year. A trip to New Zealand would be great as I have family there, and it would be nice to travel around in a camper van!
My 2022 is simple really – lose the lockdown weight gain and get out there and exercise more and more (hopefully we can have a nice hot summer!) What would be amazing is to move to a hot country for the winter – it’s far too cold here, so a holiday home abroad would be just the ticket.
Catherine Wright – Account Handler Well, me and my partner Tim are engaged and are getting married this year, very exciting! It would be amazing to have our honeymoon in Canada, what an amazing country!

7 PLACES TO VISIT IN YOUR VAN For such a small island, Britain has staggering diversity and interest. From north to south and east to west, there are countless and varied regions to visit, each with its own charm. 1. The southwest Among many other wonderful things, the far southwest of England and the counties of Cornwall and Devon offer picturesque harbours, rugged clifftops and beautiful beaches. These are probably the best-known, most-visited, of the southwest’s tourist destinations and are an enduring magnet for caravanners and leisure vehicles of every hue. But who said you have to tow your caravan to any of those in-demand destinations? The southwest is big enough still to offer tucked-away sites that will give you all the peace and tranquillity you could wish for – set in some of the most glorious countryside the British Isles have to offer.
2. Southcentral – and all points eastwards You can also enjoy tranquil and peaceful campsites tucked into the rolling hills, valleys, downland, and forests of southern England – all the way from Thomas Hardy’s home county of Dorset to Kent’s Garden of England.

Head off to the heartlands and immerse yourself in all that sumptuous history and tradition among the surprisingly green and verdant countryside of the Midlands.
4. Wales It’s the next best thing to a trip abroad, of course, without the hassle of ferries or Channel crossings. Wales boasts its own distinct and unique history and culture, of course, with the full range of landscapes to admire from the stable door of your caravan – from the rugged mountains of Snowdonia National Park in the north to the rolling green hills of the Pembrokeshire peninsula in the south.
5. The northwest Any mention of the northwest and caravans and the Lake District immediately springs to mind. It’s the northern version of the caravanning heaven that draws the crowds flocking to Devon and Cornwall in the southwest – and just as in the southwest, the Lake District’s narrow, twisty roads can be a traffic nightmare at the height of the season.

6. The northeast Cruise beyond the urban sprawl of Newcastle and head on up into Northumberland and Durham – you’ll find wide-open spaces, desolate moors, and stunningly rugged coastal walks. Blessed with a touring caravan, of course, the whole of this inviting wilderness is yours to explore.
7. Scotland Take just a small step further north and you’ll enter yet another of Britain’s “foreign” nations. The history, culture, and landscapes of Scotland will transport you into another world – a world you can explore with your home away from home towed right behind you. The length and breadth of this most northerly of the British nations offers caravanning treats aplenty – and will likely have you coming back for more than just the first taster of a visit.
The coastal regions of Dorset, Hampshire, Sussex, and Kent offer sites from which you can enjoy fine walks and But – just as in the southwest – the Lake District, sea breezes or head inland for quintessentially rural too, preserves its tucked-away corners of peace and England with cute villages and country pubs. tranquillity.
3. The heartlands The heart of England is just that – the centre of its long history of innovation, industrialisation, and culture. If our immortal bard, William Shakespeare had invested in a caravan, he would surely have ventured hardly a stone’s through from his birthplace of Stratford upon Avon.

Storage ideas for your static caravan
Where's Relle the Rabbit

Ceilings Ceilings tend to be woefully under-used in caravans – but hanging solutions can be found for all manner of storage needs. The Caravan Park and Country Club at Exmoor Riverside, for instance, reminds readers of ways you can create more space for food storage simply by hanging a zip-up pantry from the ceiling in or near the galley. The hanging pantry immediately frees up some of your valuable floor space. Light shelving can also be suspended from hooks in the ceiling – giving you extra storage space for clothes, for example, without permanently occupying valuable floor area. A combination of wall-mounted shelving and others hung on hooks from the ceiling can also provide a creative solution.
Doubling up Creating extra storage space is also a matter of making sure that any piece of furniture or the accessories you bring into your caravan serves more than a single purpose.
It’s your home away from home – with probably the major difference being that space is a little on the tighter side. The dimensions of your static caravan may call for some challenging and imaginative solutions when it comes to storing all the kit, gear, and household effects you’ll still need on holiday. So, let’s take a look at some storage ideas for your static caravan – some of them you’ll already have tried but others might open up new ways of making the most of your precious space.
A good example of doubling up like this is to make sure that items such as footrests and ottomans used to accessorise sofas and easy chairs don’t just serve that single purpose but also provide valuable storage space – say, for blankets or other soft furnishings.
Storage under tables, stools, and in bins When you’re buying those side tables and stools that are likely to prove so useful in any home – but especially within the more restricted space of your static caravan – make sure that they are designed with storage space underneath.

The extra storage space in nooks and crannies such as these might be just the right size for games, books, and other small items that would otherwise get lost just rolling about on the floor. Similar principles apply to any bigger pieces of furniture you buy for your caravan – they’re likely to prove even more than initially useful if they have in-built areas for storage. A classic case in point might be the ottoman bed – which has ample storage space underneath the mattress itself. When all of the options have been finished for increasing storage capacity in pieces of furniture, and the cupboards and wardrobes are already full, think about buying plastic bins or boxes which can be stacked neatly away when they’re not being used but easily pressed into service whenever the need arises.
Shoe and boot pockets They’ve become so widely used that you’re bound to have seen at least several different versions of the classic design. Essentially, they offer several rows of pockets – fashioned out of fabric or plastic – into which you can slip shoes, slippers, and even boots. But these hanging tidy-alls don’t have to be used exclusively for footwear, of course, but can be used to keep any number of odds and ends all tidily up together and in one place. By now, it can hardly be said to be an innovative storage solution – but in the home from home that is your static caravan, every little helps.
