Anti-urbanization is the process by which people migrate from urban to rural communities, the opposite of urbanization. People have moved from urban to rural communities for various reasons, including simpler lives. Lai’s House build for a family move from Shanghai to Jinshan and try to create modern and comfortable living environment in countryside.
2
Surrounding Environment
The neighbor next to the site is the relative of clients and some farmers in Jinshan. Most of them are impoverished family.
Site
The site is located in Jinshan District, a countryside in Shanghai, which is approximately a 1.5-hours-drive from Shanghai.
Streets-cape
We not only took into consideration different features of the environment, but also the visual interference posed by surrounding houses and the passenger flow. In this way, the house was integrated into the surroundings in a humble manner.

[Salvaged Tower] For The Capital, For The Poor Urban Complex Design 2017.02-2017.05 Location: Hefei, Anhui, China Solo/ Academic Tutor: Xu Wang
Architecture is now a tool of capital, complicit in a purpose antithetical to its social mission. Architecture serves as a money-making machine for capital and authority. But it should be a living machine for individuals. How to balance this situation? We, architects, can use time, fourth dimension, to make change happen, which will benefit both the capital and the poor.

Site Overview | Problem Beneath Urban Expansion New District in China
There are numbers of New District in Chinese developing city. Xinzhan New District, the second new district of Hefei, is just one of them and will become another CBD in 2030. All the cities in China are expanding, all of them want to become the center of this area and all of them full of ambition. China

Problem - Landless Farmers and Students
In order to improve the urbanization of Xinzhan District, the government build a University Town in this area to drive the construction of infrastructure. Also, the authority demolished a large number of cultivated land to increase the area of construction. In this way, colleague students and landless farmers gather in this area in 2020. 19

[Fold the Ground] To Maintain and Encourage Activities Student Center Design 2014.11-2015.01 Location: Hefei, Anhui, China Solo/ Academic Tutor: Meng Zhu, Feng Lin
This Students Center is a stage that acts as a new container for culture and everyday events of colleague students. I propose the Pad as the earth in between creation and disappearance. It will maintain the activities happen in the site. Also. the earth that is transformed into fragmented pieces and become landscape encouraged more activities.

The site is a key point of the campus. It located in a main road connected the three main area, Classroom, Library and Dormitory. Besides, the beautiful lake is the environment advantage of the site. 29
Strategy | Folding the Ground to Maintain and Encourage Activities
Activity Area in Campus
Due to the lake, enjoyable environment and next to the library and classroom, students like to play, relax and cross this area. Multiple activities could be hold at here.
Folding + Stair = Maintain Activities
Folding the earth to hide the mass will give back the site for students. They can still enjoy the environment here. The medium-sized steps provide students the access to the roof easily.
Large Steps = Encourage More Activities
Large stepped zone for seating, chatting and socializing. More activities, such as show, picnic and party, can be hold in this pad.
Sunlight = Study Under the Earth
The small yard guarantee enough sunlight for the space beneath the Earth.
30
Activities In and Around the Building
The landscape encourage more activities in this site and provide another path way for students to go to library. Also, the big glass provides enough light for the building and enable students to study in it. 31

How could architecture, whose existence parallel to that of human society, adapt itself to this social transformation? My answer is that we should apply network-design thinking to architecture comprehensively. In this way, architecture and construction would become more democratic and efficiency. Each individual could produce their own design in an Internet community, instead of consuming a designated living space, everything could be achieved online. It provides maker, citizens and bakers an ideal community with a complete set of business model, logistical system and self-organized construction system, in which every component is connective with each other.

The site is located in a complex urban context. Three main influencing factors affect the feature of this site. First, the high way beside the site connects two main university town, having top college of China, in Hefei. Second, the Huangshan Road is the most famous E-waste Street in Hefei, where all the E-waste would be disassemble and sorted Third, this area used to be factory area during 1949-2000. But with the expansion of the city, factories are gradually moving out from there, leaving behind lots of remained factory buildings. All these contribute to the definition of the site, maker community. 39

Share and Reprogram Primary School Primary School Design 2014.09-2014.11 Location: Binhu New District, Hefei, Anhui, China Team Work / Academic Role: Plan, Facades , Library, Class Building, Model Making, Renderings Collaborator: Ruxiao Liu Tutor: Peng Ye
Binhu New District is planed as the financial center, the administrative center, the tourism center, the life service center in Hefei, a developing Second-tier cities in China. But the resident area in this district is boring, crowding and unlivable. This area lack of public space and facilities. It is not just the urbanization problem in Hefei, but national issue. How to tackle this problem? How to enhance the living stander of citizen in China? My answer is to reprogramming school and open it for the community.
50
Site Overview | Crowded and Unlivable Urban
The site was located in a lakeside development zone which was under large-scale construction of residential buildings in recent years. And the environment is unlivable.
Lack of Public Space Compared with blocks in New York and Barcelona of similar scale. Researches of site shocked me that, the site was dramatically ovescale with relatively limited infrastructure.

When we look at the satellite map, schools are unique voids. Therefore, Under the guide of Clarence Perry’s Neighborhood Unit theories which is a means of ordering new residential communities in a way which satisfies contemporary “social, administrative and service requirements for satisfactory urban existence, We realized that the site was the only possible choice for a community center to build in the neighborhood.

Reprogramming
New programs of theater, exhibition, shopping studying and other commercial and leisure ones are arranged to the school. At the largest future public space, the school should be exploited to spearhead the redevelopment of the whole neighborhood.
Openness to The City
The buildings are elevated with an open attitude towards the city. New programs outgrow the envelope and overflows into the city. Finally the school will be rejuvenated into a new community center.

Build Home by Themselves Individual Work for Visual Literacy 2018.09-2018.12 Individual Work / Academic Tutor: Kutan Ayata
The prison does not need any guards and is built entirely by the prisoners themselves. The prison was dug out of a valley, and the prisoners were watched as they began to build the first floors of the prison. When the current floors are completed, new prisoners will begin to build new cells. As the digging continues, the prisoners will not be able to escape from the prison.

This project is a prison craved by the prisoner themselves. They force to carve the rock to make their own home. No superior is required in this prison due to the difficult to get out.

[Future Airport] Logistics = Profit Airport Design 2018.09-2018.12
This studio explores design techniques, the history of New York Cities architecture and combines it with an understanding of global capital markets to develop a new Airport/Distribution Center Hub for New York City. More specifically, this studio speculates that a new airport typology can help sustain New York City’s financial global leadership in the world. To maintain its leadership, export opportunities to and in developing economies are more likely to fuel growth opportunities in the emerging market. Our project is derived through the analysis of sectional structural systems. Then we analyze the logistics systems and try to combine these two elements to develop our own project.

All the construction documents in this portfoilo are for the interior constroction of L House and Kaixuan Restround. Being an architect at JHD and Neri and Hu gave me the opportunity to participate in detailed design and construction. This experience was valuable as it made me realize that only through carefully articulated details, such as the assembly of tiles, the design of cornice, the weight of handrail and even the temperature of materials, as well as perfect construction flow could architecture communicate effectively with its users.
