Since the Neolithic, areas around Riva San Vitale has been settled and archaeological findings proved the town has a significant Roman settlement. During the Middle Ages, Riva had been an important port of the lake for both military and trade service.

Adding a new watertaxi port and an aquatics center for the town, respecting the existing site are trademarks of the Riva San Vitale Aquatics Program. Situated on the southern end of Lake Lugano and at the foot of Monte San Giorgio, the Swiss town

has a population of 2600 with around 200 kids aging below 10 and around 300 teenagers from 10 to 19. Most of the residents speaks Italian as a mother tougue.

Aquatic Facility Department of Capolago-Riva san vitale is located close to Lido, a locally operated outdoor lake water recreational shore on a penisula. The Lido inhabits a shallow ground of Lake Lugano. A diving board marks the end of the shallow part that a cliff of the lake ground could be detected by divers and swimmers. The shallow ground extends more at the end of the penisula but is covered with rough rocks and features uneven surface. Only the floatees is the mark of inside and outside also shallow and deep. Currently most people are gathering around the grey area on the site plan drawing. Thinking a design that could enhance the water recreational experience on the end of Lido while respecting the existing houses, trees and people’s activity, The approach by putting a circle in the lake divides a interior pool from exterior natural lake. A square shaped center for bathroom and changing-locker rooms is underground. A linear semi-underground hallway connects the entrance of Lido to the square changing center and leads up to the circle.

Standing on the entrance and looking down the hallway, The space is lit by an axial and linear atrium. As the ramp slopes down, the space is darker and more private. When the axial and linear atrium ends at where the ramp becomes landing, the idea of the line is carried on through a door in the middle of the entrance for a lobby. Behind the reception desk and cafe counter, there are two wood sliding doors and an aisle in between of them. The doors are for chang ing and locker rooms , male on the left while baby and female on the right. Following the aisle, if hurrying slowly, people could smell the scant of water from the underground steam room, which is below children’s pool. The space outside of the aisle is brighter yet intersecting. Exit-Entrance for the changing rooms are behind each side of the aisle’s walls. Two ramps slope down for the underground hot water pools while another ramp is in between the two. This one, which slopes up and send people back on ground, acts as the continuation of the line.

An intention to engage with the space of lake lugano, the surrounding mountains, undulating underwater topography and the lake water has become a force for awareness during the design of the pool. The horizontal space is layered to reveal the existance of nature.

A vistor center for NYU The site is on 16 Cornelia St New York, adjacent to two buildings on both sides. Roof became the optimum source for natural daylight. The design focus on ways to bring roof light into different floors.

03

Vistor Center for Virginia Tech The site is on south main street, downtown Blacksburg, between Wellsfargo and the drive through. Since the site is a narrow rectangle, the design is triggered to divide it into modules.

The Virginia Tech campus has two major parts. Those parts consisting of an academic side and residential side.

The link between these two components is the drill field. It acts as an open forum where a variety of activities can take place. However, there is no direct link between the campus and downtown. The CHUCC aims to focus on that missing link.

terations made to adjust paths of travel based on surrounding roads and buildings. Paths formed from

experience and general observation. The paths were later adjusted for overall amount of traffic/ importance. The main intersection occurs at the site of the CHUCC and this fact later determined the building’s footprint.

The CHUCC is located between 3 distinct buildings in eastern side of campus, the Newman Library, the Eggleston student domitory, and the Graduate Life Center. The Chucc is designed to respet the surroundings and welcome students on the path of travel.

The new student center is a complex containing architecture minor studio and maker space, an auditorium, multi-use classrooms and meeting roomsis conceived not as a symbolic, isolated addition to the campus but a connecting structure

from town to campus-a large elevated crystalline structure that grows from downtown and cantilevers over the college avenue, facing to drillfield, embracing the student activities and seasonal change on that open field.
