WEEK 08 ACTIVITY: ‘IN DETAIL’ (PART ONE) Interrogation of the detailing decisions Why they used loose insulation and what are the elements in the red circle?
Composition Colorbond Capping and Flashing Colorbond Kliplock roof deck Drip
Colorbond Cladding Furring Channels
Wood Sleeper Roof framing, C beam insulation
100x100 SHS (square hollow section)
Capral 400 series window head
13mm Flush Jointed Plasterboard ceiling lining
Building process The window head and plasterboard ceiling seems to be the first things constructed. Then a piece of wood sleeper is placed under the square hollow section which is one of the main structural elements. Then another wood sleeper is placed on the SHS and a concrete wall is placed on the wood sleeper. On the right side of the wall, a C beam is used to connect the roof of the building with insulation inside to the wall. Another wood sleeper is placed on the top of the concrete wall. Two furring channels are used to attach a facade of colorbond cladding to the structural elements. Finally the colorbond cladding and flashing is put on the top. Pros and Cons Pros: There is a flashing roof with a drip can prevent the building from water. Furring channel makes it easier to attach facade to the structural elements. The Square Hollow section are beams but it is hollow so that it is lighter. Cons: There is no waterproof for the plasterboard.
