From the growing public concerns and awareness of the environment and for the optimistic cause of architectural sustainability to foster livable and viable urbanism, environmentally progressive design solutions that support the highrise building are explored.

2.0 DOWNTOWN MOBILITY STRATEGY

The “gaps� of inactivity create a substantial disconnect between the urban fabric of Cincinnati downtown and its surrounding areas. These pockets of unused space or space used solely for cars can be opportunities for infill to make a positive impact on the pedestrian experience. Currently, there are four distinct areas (all outside of the central core of downtown) that are disconnected internally and externally to other areas in downtown by parking lots and inactive frontages. This infill will be composed of residential, commercial, mixed-use and green space.

1. DOWNTOWN WEST For the Downtown West District, there will be a large majority of residential infill. This infill is a mix of medium and smaller density building types, ranging from single-family townhomes to multi-family apartment buildings. The building heights will generally be kept low in this district, not interfering with the lower activity nature of the residing neighborhood features. The existing urban fabric of this district needs to be protected, so the residential infill will be architecturally similar to the existing residential types. The area is not a high traffic area and has many inactive building frontages, therefore, the streetscape needs to be improved to both move vehicular traffic along while also promoting pedestrian interaction throughout the neighborhood.

2. MIXED-USE URBAN HUB For the Mixed-Use Urban Hub District, there will also be a mixture of residential and commercial infill along with some park space infused into pockets of the district. The Main Street corridor will be filled with mixed uses with retail on the ground floor and residential on the higher floors. Densities can be higher in this neighborhood considering the already active nature of the Main Street corridor. Along with the streetcar route running through the heart of its core, this area has a higher amount of pedestrian traffic compared to the other three districts. Therefore, this area will feature complete streetscapes that extend the sidewalk curb allowing for more pedestrian flow and interaction. The architecture will highlight the existing character of the neighborhood and will feature well-designed facades along the building frontages.

3. ENTERTAINMENT DISTRICT The Entertainment District will be mixed with both commercial and residential uses and the densities in this district can be higher as it is already an active area with a high volume of traffic. This district is strategically located near the riverfront and is adjacent to Paul Brown Stadium, which gives plenty of opportunities for high rent uses. The district will be characterized by buildings with larger footprints and newer architecture and will be seen as an extension to the already existing Banks development (located directly to the East). Imagine an area with high activity both during the day and at night with streetscapes designed to highlight the innovative architecture of the neighborhood.

4. DOWNTOWN EAST Finally, the Downtown East District will be infilled with almost solely residential uses. The densities can be mixed between higher and medium densities as this district is uniquely positioned next to downtown’s central core and the riverfront area. There will be a large infill of park space in this district as the highway overpasses cut right through the middle of the area. This gives the district an opportunity to be well planned for larger residential developments, medium or high density depending on demand, and characterized by fresh architecture types found in many innovative cities. The overpasses give the area a unique opportunity to develop park space. The parks will be larger green spaces that weave under the existing highways as well as through the planned residential developments.

Synthesis at the Bank is a strategy that combines Cincinnati’s existing appreciation for culture with its vibrant riverfront, creating an active and walkable urban neighborhood. Cincinnati’s historic identity as Midwest’s gateway to the north has allowed it to absorb countless cultures that have blended into a unique synergy.

Cincinnati Uptown Transportation Hub Center (CUTHC) project aims to create a brand-new interchange that connects communities, cities, and states by consolidating public transportation from small scale to large scale. CUTHC is designed to provide a seamless linkage between light rail train and other transportation such as hyper-loop, BRT (Bus Rapid Transit), air taxi, passenger car, bicycle or scooter, which facilitate connection between transportations that are gathered in one place.

A design of landscape garden is based on the idea of “reuse of well tried form�. The constituent elements used in North Christian Church have been reconsidered and reinterpreted to underly the landscape design - reinforced by the articulated approach toward the diagonal lines, which is one of the primary design elements shaping the existing church.

Orion and Artemis hopitality project has been led design that evokes a warm other worldly feeling yet modern and future minded to create a balance that is one part celestial and one part futuristic. Blurring lines where night and day blend, up and down twisted, and curiosity of the two worlds reveal our inner selves.
