Studio 7 Part 1: Key concept of Roof System: Flat roofs Minimum slop: 1:50 (1~2°) Frame Concrete Hybrid All
Sloping roofs
Low Medium 10~15° 15~25° Require Require Require Tiles or waterproof waterproof membrane sheet membrane membrane (only sheet materials materials)
High 25~45° Tiles or sheet materials
Part 2: constructing site visit-‐MaxStra. This constructing site is currently on finishing stage. They are completing the wall system and ceilings, as well as air conditioning. Ground level (construction type: mass construction) • Floor system: 200mm thick two-‐way reinforced concrete slab, which is “uniformly thick, reinforced in one direction, and cast integrally with parallel supporting beams”(Ching 2008).
•
Wall system: reinforced solid concrete bricks (construction type: mass construction)
All pipes are suspended on roof and they will be covered by plasterboards which is used as top board.
First level (construction type: steel frame construction) • Wall system: steel frame structure covered with plasterboard (short period fire resistance)
On the top level, the construction elements that can be observed are universal beams, steel framed wall, and air conditioning and air panels with are suspended on the ceiling. The ceiling is constructed by steel purlins.
On the same level, there is a boxed gutter on the side of wall which is connected with a downpipe. One thing that is interesting of this gutter is that, it has a second exit on the lateral side. This second exit allows extra storm water run off if the first exit is too busy.
Some additional elements: 1. Cleat: (the link at the corner)
2. Steel bracing:
3. Pitched roof with steel sheathing: (slop: 2°)
4. Casting plate:
