Studio 9 Part 1: We have visited the “built detail” which is about the roof system that is constructed by two students from my tutorial. The construction system they used is timber frame construction. From the photos, we can see that the most of total weight are loaded on two columns which are laminated timber. Bolted connection is practiced at every joint by using bolts. The whole built detail consists of 2 loadbearing beams which are bolted at the 2 columns and joists are laying on the beams. At the top of these 2 columns roof beams are places on other 2 beams. Purlins are vertically placed on the roof beams. According to Ching (2008), this 2-‐layer roof system allows more space of the roof beams since roof beams support some purlins.

Part 2: We continued the detail drawing from last week. Unlike last one which was “in detail” with the scale of 1:1, this week we developed it by adding volumetric drawing at 1:10 scale.
