Simple Tea Tea should be simpe, but also followng the season. Only in the right season, you could feel the spirit of tea.

Inspiration

Such a great TV ad, Twinings use tea colour to make images. In China, tea is nearly 5,000 years old and was discovered, as legend has it, in 2737 b.c. China has so many kinds of teas, which also have vivid colours. So, I am thinking make something with tea colour and with chinese traditions.

The Classic of Tea is the very first monograph on tea in the world, written by Chinese writer Lu Yu between 760 CE and 780 CE during the Tang Dynasty.

Of course, different teas will have different colour and their flavour and taste. I think these are their characters and identity. So I decide to make visual identity of teas.

Lu Yu said, in different seasons, tea will have different flavous. Also, you need to know which season is best for different tea, then you could find the best taste of tea

Research

Visiting and Survey I spend a week time to visit eldly peoples arround my erea. And I talked with them and gave survey, try to find out what’s their needs, and get to know their real life situation. Of course I also told them my idea of application, and ask for their opinion.

Empathy Design User Experience Nowaday, in china, lots of eldly people live alone. Their childrens work in the city or other provinces. Mentally, they feel alone and helpless. They eager to communicate with others, and need helps for some small problems in daily life.

In this project, I try to design a ios application for eldly people, satisfy their needs. This application should be easy to use, and eldly people friendly.

Food Piramid A heath lunch box package. Don’t worry about your diet plan. We are taking car about your health.

Inspiration

One of my friends, a beautiful

girl, who became painfully weak and pale and was hospitalized two years ago.I never know why she was sick until a few month ago when she told me she had suffered from anorexia and bulimia since her early teens. I was utterly grieved not only because she shouldered this painful baggage by herself for such a long time but also for the fact that there still are thousands of young people, especially girls, regard their extremely unhealthy diet as a way of losing weight.

Research

The World Health Organization (WHO) makes the following 5 recommendations with respect to both populations and individuals: Try to burn as much energy as you eat, and try to eat as much energy as you burn, as a healthy weight is a balance between those two. Increase consumption of plant foods, particularly fruits, vegetables, legumes, whole grains and nuts Limit intake of fat and oil, and avoid saturated fats, which are those that become solid at room temperature such as coconut oil and most animal fats including those found in red meat, dairy and eggs. Prefer unsaturated fats, which remain liquid at room temperature, and are predominant in most plant-based oils and foods. Eliminate trans fats. Limit the intake of granulated sugar -- A 2003 report recommends less than 10% simple sugars Limit salt / sodium consumption from all sources and ensure that salt is iodized

Developing Point

Peoples’ lunch box has been develope years and years, from very begining, using leaves wrap the rice and meat together, to having a container and seperated rice and meat. What is the next step?

Leaf wrap

Mixed

I knew that the healthiest dietary structure was pyramid-shaped with sugar and fat on the top taking up the smallest percentage. So I decided to create a package design works for both take-out food and instant rice that use to been packed in squire boxes, where rice, meat and vegetable are mixed.

Chinese Patient Are we born inocent? Or, we are born guilty? China is like a patient, need to be saved.

Backgroung

China

, I have to say, my country is developing too fast that the society is afflicted with all kinds of illness. I've seen examples of people turning a blind eye to evil, family splitting for the sake of money and innocent lives dying due to corruption and malfeasance.

People are becoming increasingly jaded and snobbish and restless and are lack of moral integrity. And this breaks my heart. I envy the life of the ancient Chinese ages. They went to the mountain with nothing but a skinny old horse and plainly decorated Qin (a Chinese musical instrument), in order to read books and examine themselves; they lived in dilapidated households, laughed and said "how could a room be humble as long as there is a virtuous man in it. They also said that a country falls as abruptly and rapidly as it rises.

It is obvious that there are numerous cynical people who blame to the government and the society. I never agree with them. If one is so easily manipulated and lured by something evil, one must be evil in nature as well, isn't it? I also believe that when every single thing is money-oriented and everyone is blinded by greed, a country, any country, will be doomed to fall. What I truly expect is that we could examine ourselves more often, and have some self-conscience, because a country will change only when people start to change.

Research

what do people need ?

It is not difficult to tell, this developing country, China having amazing develope speed. However, sometimes we are wondering “Does it too fast?”. Developing China having a lots of problems, poor and rich, pollution, corruption. So, I am thinking about what makes all these? what do people need? I try to find out answer from Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. But I think these are not quite match Maslow’s. In the end, my thinking comes to “Does these comes from human nature?”, “ Is human nature bad or good?”.

Flowing Underground A underground visual identity, inspirated by Chinese philosophy, Yin-Yang and Wu-Xing.

Inspiration

Underground & Yin-Yang

Underground probably is the most busy place in a city. However, it become so quiet and peaceful in the midnight. In our life, sometimes, we are so busy and rush that we don’t have time to be quiet and think. We need peaceful in our mind. We could to see the quiet aspect of the most busy place, underground, to remind people, ‘No matter how busy your are, you could still find your peaceful.’ In underground, these two experiences are so interconnected and interdependent, which remind me theYin and Yang in chinese philosophy.

Research

Yin

Yang

In Chinese philosophy, the concept of Yin-Yang , in the cultures of Western Civilization -- literally meaning "shadow and light" -- is used to describe how seemingly opposite or contrary forces are interconnected and interdependent in the natural world; and, how they give rise to each other as they inter-relate to one other.

Yin and yang are actually complementary -- not opposing -- forces, interacting to form a whole greater than either separate part; in effect, a dynamic system. Everything has both yin and yang aspects. Either of the two major aspects may manifest more strongly in a particular object, depending on the criterion of the observation.

Outcome

The patterns that represent ocean waves in traditional costumes originate in the great nature. It is the primary sign of life and the base of everything. In daily life, we always neglect great details. We pay no attention to the dynamic hidden in staleness and the flow of lives.

I choose to zoom in and magnify the details, to find the once neglected dynamic and endow the traditional Chinese pattern with a modern sense under exotic elements flow during the process of magnifying. It is just like following the flow trace of every cell. We are to find the signs of life, the power to drive the city.

The underground is just the manifestation of a city’s dynamic. It is metallic, stiff and direct. With dynamic wavy lines and seats of different shapes, it is endowed with life and dynamic, which makes it back to freedom.

Breeze Whisper Tea should be simpe, but also followng the season. Only in the right season, you could feel the spirit of tea.

Inspiration

The pavilion looks like a box with thousands of spines that hover without visible support above a public square. All the spines, which can swing in the breeze, are tipped with tiny colored light sources which can display a variety of images together.

the centerpiece of the pavilion is the seed cathedral, a six storey high cube-like structure, pierced by approximately 60 000 7.5m long slim transparent acrylic rods which sway gently in response to any wind movement. This design cleverly using the breeze, using objects to reflect wind movment. I am think if I could use wind to make something.

Developing point

What’s Wind? Could we see it? What it is saying? In nature, we usually use movment of other objects to “see” wind. However this is from other objects telling the infomation of wind. Could we say all these we see and feel from nature is a message, message of wind, the whisper of breeze .

Communication Once you need to communicate, languge is necessary. However, how to communicate with wind? or how to understand what wind want to say?

Inspiration

Back to nature, original.

What’s next?

In the last project, I discover the the meaning of nature, back to original. Everything in design could go back to its original material, and we could find its beauty in nature. Howerver, I am wondering that what is the next after we explore the the original nature material.

Life Cycle Be inspirated by butterfly, I think all these nature material, in the end, go back to the basic, life cycle. For example, butterfly’s life cycle is from egg to caterpillar, to chrysalis, to butterfly, finally egg again. When we are pursuing the beauty of butterfly, we have to keep in mind, this beauty is from its whole life cycle. So the basic of everything should be life cycle.

Research

This poem talks about a insect called Ephemeroptera. It has beautiful colour but its life only last one day.

《 诗经·曹风 ·蜉蝣》

the Classic of Poetry is the earliest existing anthology of Chinese poems and songs.

蜉蝣之羽,衣裳楚楚。心之忧矣。於我归处。

I have to share you a poem from the Classic of Portry

蜉蝣之翼,采采衣服。心之忧矣。於我归息。

Life Cycle

Before its daed, they dance in the air, showing their elegant colour and last beauty, very short tim compare to human, but do touching heart. So, I believe anything beautiful comes from life. Nothing else will beyond this beauty from life and death, life cycle.
