DUALITY | thesis collection
Framed by the paradox of being a twin, Duality explores an intersection of identities. Linear seams juxtapose organic silhouettes, embodying the fluidity of identity. Elements of raw and refined, the balance between symmetry and asymmetry, reflect the contrasts that coincide with being borne of duality. 13 garments | 5 knitted hats | 3 leather backpacks. View my process work on Instagram @collectionduality. Complete lookbook and process book available upon request. This collection was selected as Director’s Choice out of the 36 students in my program. It was also selected as one of six collections awarded the Holzberger Family Humanitarian Foundation Scholarship for Sustainability in Design.

PARADOX
Design/illustration project centered on the concept of finding one’s identity, particularly inspired by my own experiences as a twin. This project was selected as one of three representatives from my program in the 2015 Joe’s Blackbook Scholarship Competition.
FIGHT OR FLIGHT
PROJECT OBJECTIVE: Create a look inspired by a specific
decade. One piece must be a tailored wool garment.
I was inspired by the military uniforms of the 1940s. I utilized details such as strong shoulders, below-the-knee hemlines, and utility. I updated the look through the use of silver hardware, color blocking, and the contrast of a highly feminine shirtdress to a masculine tailored coat.
KNITWEAR
PROJECT OBJECTIVE: Create a knitwear look inspired by
a backstory of your choosing.
Jumpsuit, turtleneck sweater, and hat created on a knitting loom.Yarn sourced responsibly from Imperial Stock Ranch, grown and spun in America. The sun is just starting to rise, its golden rays slipping through the branches and dancing on the wood–paneled walls. The sound of leaves gently rustling in the wind and the occasional bird song are the only noises in this oasis, aside from her own quiet breathing. She puts on her glasses, throws on a sweater, and steps out into the crisp air. It’s cool out, the kind of early-morning cool that makes her want to wrap her arms around herself, but feels so exceptionally refreshing when she takes a deep breath. “There’s no other place like this on earth, no other calm that feels like this,” she thinks, eyes closed as she exhales. The air smells fresh, light; a floral cherry-blossom-like scent drifts through the air, filling her with hope and a sort of romantic familiarity with each breath.

I produced 50+ of Kordal’s reversible knitted hats made of 100% wool, which were machine-knitted then hand-linked. I also devised a new method of linking the seams which made the hats look more seamless, both inside and out.
