1.Under One Roof UNSW DESIGN STUDIO - MIXED USE RESIDENTIAL 2020 Site Location: 53&55 Park Lane, New Town, Sydney Design Brief: A mixed used residential development including 3 individual dwellings, a cafe, a communal space and private outdoor space for each dwellings
The project site is located in the heart of Newtown, one street away from the busy hustling King Street. Walking down from the Georgina Street that brunches out of King Street, towers Hollis Park, you will find yourself at this quirky corner plot. The pattern of the old town houses along Geogina Street is strong, but the current 2 house at 53 &55 seems to break the pattern, the wide road also became a small narrow path that lies beside the perimeter of the unit on 55. The unit ended losing opportunities to have big openings that looks into the park. And the north east boundary could not have sufficient openings to receive more natural sunlight, as it is constantly bothered by the people walking along the path. The main design challenge in this brief is to allocate both communal outdoor space and private outdoor space for each residential unit, while ensuring sufficient daylight and ventilation within the units.

2.PLATFORM ULTIMO UNSW DESIGN STUDIO - URBAN STUDIO 2020 Site Location:
Ultimo, Sydney
Design Brief: A mixed used commercial, office and communal
Most of the urban spaces for public can be found in the city centre, however, only a small percentage of those spaces really belong to the “people”. Most of the spaces in the city are maximised for commercial ownership. During a normal day you may find lots of activities to do in the city. However, during a time of lock-down like coronavirus, we discovered that when most places are shut down, there is not much spaces left for people to carry out activities with adequate distancing. Some may say “people” abandoned the city centre, maybe it was the other way round, the city centre abondoned its people The location of the site is really unique, and therefore we are tasked to create our own design brief for this project as long as we allocate spaces a list of community use spaces.
1.Memory of the City One of the main component of this new community centre, is to be a place for the history of urban development in Sydney.
Ultimo, Sydney 03 THE PROJECT
The site is located along the goods line, at the eastern edge of Ultimo, next to the city centre. This is a historical site as the old goods line train track runs through the site, creating an axis with the buildings around the site. The old goods line shaped the urban development of this area, although the train line has long ceased operation, it is still an important part of the history of Sydney. We could not stop the city skyline from changing, but we could retain the memory and attach- ment that people grew for the city as much as we can. In Ultimo, 82.4% if the residents were not born locally. Therefore, it is important to retain the historical elements and celebrate the memory of the city. This is also a potential tourist attraction, a place to stop by when they transit from Hay Market
2. Urban “Park The typical Community Centre facilities are managed by the city council, each facility has its own dedicated use and pur- pose. In this building, there will be open spaces with infrastructures that could be used for different activities, depends on the people using it, pretty much like how a park works. The aim is to give back the city spaces to the people, also utilize spaces for different activities. We could not always predetermine a specific time and usage of a space, this makes a place feel less communal and more controlled. 3.The Portal As the side is located in between Ultimo and Hay Market, is was supposed to connect the Ultimo to city centre. However, because of the old goods line, the buildings and roads along the two sides of the goods line were not designed in re- spoond to each other. The new building will serve as a better connection between the two zone. Due to the narrow shape of the site, it will be like an portal between Ultimo and Hay Market.

the Memory Lane
a place that remembers the past of the city
Changes in city are inevitable and we are constanly in search for any available leftover space for new buildings to take place. Old industrial buildings that used to contribute to the industrialization and modernism of the city are often abandoned and relocated. What can we do with the left over structure and the piece of land where it stands on?

3. COMMON GROUND RED BEAN ARCHITECTS - ADDITION & ALTERATION INTERIORPROJECT 2019 Site Location: Bedok, Singapore Design Brief: Addition & Alteration to an existing library building into a new co-working office
This is an office fit-out project in an existing building. The project timeline is only 1 month for design and tender because the client is rushing to move into a new office. The requirement is pretty straightforward, yet challenging. The client requires an office space that caters for private offices, coworking space with shared pantry, a proper reception, as well as an waiting area. All the spaces should be connected and open to each other. The private offices shall be easily accessible yet some sense of privacy is required. I was in charged of assisting the lead architect to draft the tender drawings, checking shopdrawings and coordination with contractors, from the concept design stage to the hand over stage.
4. ARTISTRY @ ORCHARD SINGAPORE POLYTECHNIC - DESIGN STUDIO 2015 Site Location:
Orchard Road, Singapore
Design Brief: A mixed used commercial, office and public developent
Usually shopping mall plan the space by dividing the spaces horionztally to distribute the different functions required, different floors has a different targetting group. However, in this artisan collective, every functions are equally important. Thus, in order to attract visitors to go to every artisan’s workshop, spaces are divided vertically to allocated different functions as stated in the project brief, to create better circulation for the whole building.
