I wanted to answer a question from my instagram post: do you have a food blog or website? No. I do not.
I started taking pictures of my food because of my mom. She is far away from me. I wanted to take pictures of my food. That is one thing she cares about: “what did you eat? � So I want to make sure that she knows I can take care of myself. This sounds weird. I am 39 years old. How can you not take care of yourself? But for Chinese parents, no matter how old you are, they always think you are a kid, special you are still single.
I spend less and less time in cooking. Sometimes for some dishes, it takes a few hours, but most of the time, they just sit on the stove, I do not need to do much about it. I just let the time, stove, the temperature make the magic for me. I only need to prepare the things for maybe half an hour. 1/2
When I cook, I do not have the specific recipe. But I use the material that I can think of or use in my refrigerator. I got them from store. I need them to look fresh. I want variety and color. Make sure I have many choices to do the combination. I pay attention to color, I know every color of food is good for something. I am not a picky girl. I eat almost everything since I was a little girl.
What else can I share? I do not use much salt, maybe pinch. Sometimes I do not use salt. I do not use much butter. Usually, breakfast is fruit plate, lunch is stir fries, dinner is salad or something else.
There are some difference between Chinese cooking and American cooking or other countries cooking. You can add this or that with creativity and you do not need to care how much you add this or that. While like in bakery, you have to follow the recipes, like some table spoon or tea spoon. I cannot be so exact at cooking Chinese dish. I use creativity a lot and whatever I can use at that moment.
When you cook, cook it with loving, you will make better dishes.
Another thing I cook is because I have to take care of myself. It costs less and the meals are with good quality. Cooking for myself is important for me when it comes to self love or self caring.
